It was a milestone for picture books • Surprisingly up-to-date content and illustrations • Awarded the ‘Boekenleeuw’ and the ‘Staatsprijs voor Jeugdliteratuur’ I think I will draw a new world, Adam says looking around. I will put my broom right here. This will be the centre of the earth. That should be a good start. First, I draw a line: this is the equator. And then I draw a big circle: that is the earth. Little Adam is not happy with the way the world is. It’s too busy and too noisy. He sweeps it all down the drain and starts afresh using his coloured pencils. He draws flowers and birds and trees and children. But in the end the new world doesn’t look quite as he had expected!

A series of powerful children’s portraits by Ingrid Godon inspired Toon Tellegen to write a number of short poetical texts. Every single one of them is a reverie or message from the point of view of the person in the portrait.
