Vitality is liveliness, to be alive. But without health, vitality is just mechanistic. In this issue of LA+ we explore how design can improve the health and vitality of people, cities, systems, and landscapes. Contributors include experimental psychologist Colin Ellard on perceptions of life and agency, author of "Vibrant Matter" Jane Bennett, landscape historian Mirka Beneš on the role of gardens in health in ancient Rome, urban designer Julian Bolleter on the practice of placemaking in Dubai, and philosopher Mark Kingwell on artificial intelligence.
