Types of Horse Racing


Horse Racing is typically known as an equestrian sport that involves two or more jockeys that rides the horses over a particular distance. Among the many sports that have ever lived, it is considered to be one of the ancient sports that is still practiced today and heavily supported by the public. It has a basic premise, which is to identify among them is the fastest horse to be able to finish the set course. And this premise remains unchanged until the present time.


Although horse racing has been here since the ancient times, the countries that practice it have developed their own horse racing traditions where variety of its feature is apparent that makes it unique from one another. These varieties include:


Restriction on the races of particular breeds Inclusion of numerous obstacles Running over obstacles Race in varying distances Race on varied track surfaces Different gaits running


Although the horse racing is purely intended for sport, what makes it considered as a gambling activity are the wagers of the public in the outcome that has gone digital. Horse racing of today has become digital in a sense that people can now place their bets online and just watch the race in their desktop at the comfort of their home. With the popularity of horse racing, it had managed to generate world-wide market revenue of US$115 billion.


But horse racing is not always about having the horse run as fast as they could just to finish the race. There are different types of horse racing that makes it somewhat exciting to many spectators. These are; 1 – Flat Racing – this is done where the horse gallops directly between the two post around an oval or straight track. 2 – Steeple chasing – this commonly known as the jump racing where the horses race over the obstacles before reaching the finish line. 3 – Harness racing – this type of racing involves trotting or pacing as it pulls the driver that is in a sulky 4 – Endurance racing – this type of horse racing involves horses that travel over an extreme distance across the country. The distance is typically 40 to 161 km.
