Re-opening Museum of Brisbane Museum sector / City Museum When / April 2013

S

ince his opening in 1930 the Museum of Brisbane was located in the grand floor of the city Hall but during the Australian floods in 2011 the structure of the building was badly damage, the hole building was therefore restored during more that two years. The museum was placed in a temporary

location until April 2013 when it re-opened. An entire new space for a new museum now locate on the third floor of the city hall, more that 2000 meter squire now a semi private institution.

A

semi permanent social history exhibition which looks at the city of Brisbane, revealing how the river is intertwined in the lives of city inhabitants. Connecting the visitors to the stories of the city from earliest settlement through to the modern city. The Exhibition is explored through 4 galleries with more 235

cases to display the 3D artefacts following the concept of the exhibition was another of my inputs on the exhibition. The d esign approach chosen was a lineal floating shelf made of Blackwood veneer and black iron, giving the strength and durability needed for the long period exhibition.

Reds

the 130Th anniversary of the formation of the Reds Queensland Rugby union team.

T

he anniversary created an opportunity of acknowledges the contribution and achievement of the rugby community in Queensland, showing the memorabilia and personal items kept hidden in the archives. This exhibition was set in one of the public area of the Mu-

seum of Brisbane during an important rugby event in the city. The concept is showing the artefacts hidden in the archives as we just open the storage case. A raw plywood showcases holds a metal pales which support frames blazers, paints and didactics. Because the exhibi-

tion had to be itinerant live all element are detachable. I coordinated the production of exhibition elements to meet budget and deadlines. I designed the furniture elements and later liaised with builders of the fit out including multimedia displays.

The visitors are invited to interact on the discovery of the objects by opening the drawing of the showcases.

D

esigner for Studio MB, I was part of the 3D team, involved in the creation of initial concepts, cataloguing the massive number of artefacts and layouting the showcases, having present the conservation requirement for the different objects.

tudio MB completed the £1.9M gallery and exterior interpretation development at Roman Vindolanda Fort and Museum and The Roman Army Museum near Hadrian’s Wall. These two new museums house the Vindolanda Trust collections, one of the biggest ongoing archeology side in Europe.

W

hile at work in StudioMB
I was part of the 3D designing team working on the showroom with fourteen themed zones. I worked intensely in the 90 metre long glass topped, an internally illuminated time line running like a spine through the entire length of the exhibition.

eveal was a showcase of the City of Brisbane Collection pro usually locked. A dynamic exhibition that showed 8 stories presented in three different rotations.

I worked extensively in a collaboration to produce multiple AutoCAD drawings required for concept presentation and exhibition production I also built a scale model of the space. The Many lives of Moreton Bay T

his exhibition discovers an intriguing story of endless transformations of the Bay of Brisbane, from leper colony to wilderness retreat, from whaling station to marine sanctuary. The many lives of Moreton Bay brings them together as one powerful and revealing experience. This exhibition showcased the ever-changing region and its intriguing past through a numerous mix of social history artefacts, visual arts, multimedia, archival footage and gallery of paintings.

T

he stunning job of the exhibition curator grouping the artefacts and histories of the islands of Moreton bay and creating a bridge history between them was the starting point of the exhibition layout. A twoentrance exhibition, where the visitor can voyage without any pre-established order.

emphasise the traveling experience from island to island. Each island is presented in the exhibition by printed panels on mainsail and the artefacts are blended with didactic panels and giant prints. The aim was to create a stimulating exhibition that embodies beauty, history and where the protagonist is the people from the bay.

StandingBy Co. was engaged to create an interactive mapping experience designed to introduce and orient visitors, as though they are observing the bay from Brisbane.

est known for his detailed figurative sculpture, Stephen Hart has developed his career utilising the traditional technique of hand-carving timber to examine and express the strengths and virtues of humanity, the individual’s place in

society and our collective responsibility. In Fellow Humans Hart looked closely at 21 individuals who make up his immediate community.

A

great talk with the artist was my starting point of the design process for this exhibition. A tidy room in contrast with the organic shape of the sculptures, displayed in a central round plinth as the central body of the exhibition.

I prepared detailed drawings for estimating and manufacturing. In the perimeter of the gallery is explained the creative process of the artist, the didactic panels, his tool shelf and process maquettes.

his photography exhibition features 150-year span countless images taken since the introduction of photography to Australia, in the 1860s since nowadays. At least one panorama photo of every decade since then, 18 in total.

I developed a separate identity in balance with The River. The perimeter is homogenised with a colour strip around the space to emphasize the timeline story telling. A new freestanding wall is built and used as the title wall and display for a small collection. The wall articulates the space and provides housing for a multimedia display, an interactive component that allows visitors to compare yes-

NGo Offices for Solidarios I

nterior design project of a headquarter for Solidarios, NGOs pioneered in the training of volunteers. The offices are located in the borne, a coastal district in Barcelona, in a building built in 1918.
