It is hard to believe that five years have past since the inaugural Reebok Grand Prix. Time has flown almost as fast as Usain Bolt did in last year’s 100m World Record race… On behalf of Reebok and all of our supporting partners, I am proud to welcome track and field fans from around the world back to Icahn Stadium to experience what promises to be the most exciting Reebok Grand Prix to date. Once again, the meet has been designated an IAAF Grand Prix event, one of only two in the United States. In 2010, the Reebok Grand Prix will be featured as a stop on the IAAF’s new Diamond League tour. Befitting the “melting pot” that is New York City, 29 countries are represented by the more-than 200 athletes who will compete here this afternoon and evening. We are especially pleased to welcome reigning individual World and Olympic Champions Veronica Campbell-Brown, Kerron Clement, Tirunesh Dibaba, Allyson Felix, Bernard Lagat, Shelly-Ann Fraser, Tyson Gay, LaShawn Merritt, Angelo Taylor and Melanie Walker. It is you, the fans, that have helped make this event something special. Enjoy the meet. Mark Wetmore

Welcome to all

Reebok Grand Prix athletes and to the fastest kids in New York City!

“It all goes so fast, and character makes the difference when it’s close.” Jesse Owens “Decades ago, my grandfather left his mark on these grounds, and now I look forward to seeing some of the many young athletes accomplish great things here on Randall’s Island. For a least one Olympic champion of sports and a true champion of spirit … this is where it all began. Gina Hemphill-Strachan Jesse Owens’ granddaughter The Randall’s Island Sports Foundation (RISF) is proud to sponsor the Jessse Owens Track & Field Club which each year brings hundreds of under-served public school children from Harlem and the South Bronx to Randall’s Island Park”s Icahn Stadium for free instruction in hurdles, long jump, high jump, javelin, sprints and distance running, RISF was created in 1992 as a public-private partnership with New York City’s Department of Parks and Recreation, working with City leadership and local communities. Together, we have brought a renaissance to the Park which spans the 480acre Island through the construction of Icahn Stadium, the new 20-court Sportime Tennis Center (opening next month), the restoration of tidal salt marsh and freshwater wetlands, the creation of a 4 mile Island-wide running, biking and walking pathway system, the renovation of the 80-driving stall golf center, and our largest and most ambitious project – construction of a major complex of more than 60 new sports fields. To donate to the Jesse Owens Track & Field Club or to learn more about RISF, please go to www.risf.org or call 212 830-7722.
