Opinion Sotries By Caleb G.

You know, in the “old days”, kids would play with their friends in the neighborhood. Laughter filled the air as little ones found each other in hide-and-go-seek. They would all play until the sun started setting in the west and their mothers called them in for some ice cold lemonade. Children had fun and enjoyed their days with others. Now a days kids stare at screens, moving their thumbs and developing these “new” ailments such as Nintendinitis, which develops from the strain of making repetitive small movements. In only a few decades America has changed the ideas of childhood, I mean, what happened to going over to Jimmy’s house to play? Your best friend Jimmy could live across the city now. Instead of playing at Jimmy’s house, kids now find each other on Xbox live and gun the other down on Halo (this is extremely addicting and if you haven’t tried it you should). We know how American children grew up “back then”, becoming responsible, working, having good moral values

(mostly). Now, how is this video gaming generation being affected psychologically? I believe that violent video games are bad for a person’s psychology. Although it is nearly undoubted that exposure to violence is bad, the question is how are violent video games affecting their players?

Gunned down by cops in GTA

Violent video games such as the latest Grand Theft Auto (GTA): Grand Theft Auto IV:The Lost and the Damned, can be used to vent anger of the players in a controlled fashion. Nobody could get hurt if all they are doing is playing a game. However, those who play violent video games may become addicted and have unchecked flares of anger if they can not express it though video game violence. Serious players tend to think of repeating the action they see in all screen entertainment, and in lower age groups this behavior is more pronounced. The extent of mimicry was seen when Tom Jackman from the Washington Post reported that “a six year old boy drove his parents car 10 miles”, and the child claimed to have learned to drive from GTA. Unfortunately, learning to drive is not the only thing children can learn to copy. Painful finishing moves, drugs and sex are not limited to the screen, but is capable of actually happening in a monkey-see-monkey-do tragedy. Much sorrow comes when players may come to accept violence in life as the world saw in Alabama, 2003 when Devin Moore killed 3 cops after reportedly playing GTA obsessively. It was stated in court that he had played 10-16 hours a day, using GTA to plan out his killing spree. Another problem is that violent games can desensitize players to death, since there is no need to pay for the consequences of killing or dying since you can bribe the police or just start over. There is no doubt that the GTA series is affecting its players, as it is the third “game(s) of all time based on initial impact and lasting legacy” by the Computer and Video Games website. Violence is shown in shows, movies, and online, but the worst of all is in video games, when the player controls the actions of the main character and virtually (but still voluntarily) commits crimes. The solution to this social crisis lies partly in advertising the negative potential of violent games by the Family Violence Prevention Fund. Another part of the solution is creating a law forbidding video game sellers from selling to consumers under the game’s age rating. The final measure would be for video game producers to put a security system on their games to keep under aged would-be players from seeing violent material behind an older sibling’s back.

Music does not really make your brain smarter, but it does help you give your maximum potential. Researchers learned that music makes your brain give it’s best. The results were amazing. The group who listened to music before the test made a higher grade

Opinion Stories on average than the second group. Teachers might say that students will play their music too loud and people will be bothered. It will also be bad if the students play inappropriate music that other students will hear. Students would probably abuse the privilege of listening freely. Teachers should give students a chance. Each student should be responsible for his or her own mistakes. If someone bothers the class by the music they listen to, then he or she should be punished and not the whole class. The class should not be responsible for the mistakes one student does.

Research after research has shown that and music stimulates the brain. People who listen to music get better academically. Music helps because it makes the people get into a good mood. When someone with a good mood takes a test, then they will tend to get better scores. It does not matter what type of music someone listens to, it could be Beethoven, classic rock, techno, or even rap. As long as the listener gets into a good mood, they will do much better. If the teachers want students to learn, to make better grades and basically perform

better in class, then the teachers should let their students listen to music freely. The classes will be more progressive and the learning environment would be much more fun for the students if they allowed music. So instead of making kids sit quietly on their chairs and do school work for hours will me really stressful. Instead they should let them have the freedom to listen to music to make the studying much less stressful and more fun.

Great Pyramid of Khufu

Ancient Aliens? By Philip B. Did you know that Egyptian and Mayan architecture shows influence of a higher intelligence? Is this too hard to believe? This question and others have been asked for over fifty years, ever since the first UFOs were sighted, and the first connections made between ancient peoples and extraterrestrial intelligence. So many people, commoners as well as esteemed scientists, have attacked this theory because of its supposedly controversial evidence. However, there is still plenty of evidence, a majority of which is physical, which can easily be interpreted as influence of alien intelligence on ancient man. I do believe that alien life exists and has influenced ancient mankind’s architecture and culture. Here, look at the evidence I present and come to your own conclusions. One thing is for certain: through asking scores of people over the past two years, I have concluded that most people disagree that intelligent alien life could exist. It is even more outlandish to them that these beings have visited earth and influenced mankind. Michael Shermer, the famous skeptic, said that there is no proof for the ancient alien theory that cannot be attributed to human ingenuity. But is this absolutely true, or is he trying very hard to ignore what cannot be denied. I think the main reason people try to ignore the existence of aliens is that the idea is unorthodox. It is so unconventional to us because humans are prideful. Humans assume that they are the only intelligent race in the universe. It doesn’t make sense in our culture that an-

7

other race is possibly much more intelligent than us. The evidence is there, we just don’t want to accept it. Of course by now you’re probably wondering what this evidence could be. Through much research and traveling, archaeologists and journalists have discovered that various ancient places in the world show possible influence from other intelligent beings, from constructions impossible to create at that time period, to advanced mathematics and astronomy. As our first example, let’s take the Nazca Lines of Peru. These are megalithic geoglyphs constructed on an arid plateau, representing lines, geometric shapes, and animals. How can this be evidence? The Nazca lines are so immensely large that they are only decipherable from the air. Erich von Daniken, a Swiss journalist and promoter of the ancient alien theory, points out that people have lived around this area for centuries, but the Nazca Lines weren’t discovered until the 1930s, when an airplane flying over the region noticed the huge animals inscribed in the desert. Could the ancient people who made the Nazca lines have wanted to send a message to someone flying in the air? A UFO perhaps? Relating to this is another huge geoglyph (drawing on the ground) only a few miles away on the coast of Peru that is shaped like an arrow and points towards Nazca. Many ancient megalithic structures from around the world defy primitive man’s engineering capabilities. For example, the Great Pyramid of Khufu at Giza, probably one of the most famous structures in the world.

A 400 ton stone from Puma Punku, showing the 2 mm. wide furrow carved down its length.

According to the Egyptians, the Great Pyramid was built in 20 years. This is preposterous. There are 2,300,000 blocks of stone that make up the Great Pyramid. Building the Pyramid in 20 years would imply that a block of stone was cut and hauled into place every nine seconds. How can this be explained? Perhaps by the intervention of alien intelligence. What journalist Giorgio Tsoukalos points out, and what the archaeologists try to ignore, is that the Egyptians say they built the Great Pyramid in 20 years, but with the assistance of the “Guardians of the Sky.” In Mexico is the ancient Mayan city of Palenque. In the main temple in this city is the sarcophagus of the most famous ruler of Palenque, King Pacal. On the cover of this sarcophagus in presented one of the most convincing visuals in support of the ancient alien theory. Erich von Daniken shows that the carving on the surface is very suggestive of Pacal driving a rocket ship. It is very difficult to interpret it any other way. It is shaped like a rocket, with flames coming out the back end. Pacal is operating levers in both hands, with his foot on some type of pedal. He also has some mask-looking device attached to his nose. This seems to indicate some advanced technology that people assume the ancients could not have possible possessed. It is possible that this technology was introduced to the Mayans via alien intelligence. According to Giorgio Tsoukalos, the most stunning megalith (huge construction) that supports the an-

cient alien theory is Puma Punku, located in Bolivia. At first glance, this field of giant blocks of stone seems insignificant. However, there’s something abnormal about this place. Each stone weighs as much as 400 tons, but they are stacked on top of each other in at least three layers. The blocks of stone interlock so precisely that there are actually furrows that are a millimeter wide and a millimeter deep that run the whole length of the stone. Each furrow is exactly straight, and is exactly the same depth the entire way through. The stones are also made out of diorite, one of the hardest minerals on earth. The nearest quarry was ten miles from Puma Punku. Are we really to assume that these ancient Indians from 3,000 years ago actually had the ability to carve huge stones out of diorite, haul them ten miles to the building site, chisel millimeter-wide furrows on the edges of the stones, and then hoist them on top of each other? It is inconceivable. It only makes sense that they were assisted in part by a higher intelligence. Of course, the quest to prove intelligent alien existence requires more research to prove completely. However, with all the proof that we do have, people should accept it instead of trying to avoid it. Personally, I believe that there is sufficient proof to conclude the existence of aliens, and that they have influenced mankind’s culture. We’ll know someday, in the far and distant future...when they return. W

HAVE DARKSIDERS INFRINGED? By Chandler R.

I have mixed feelings about copyrights; it’s a love hate kind of thing. I like copyrights because they stop people from breaking the law and when people copy others products they are punished, but I also do not like copyrights. I don’t like them because, say there’s a fun game I really love, but one day I hear on the news that this game I love so much has been sued because they broke a copyright. It would make me sad. I mean all that hard work to make such a great game, and they get sued? That’s horrible. Here is my conundrum: The game Darksiders has taken game ideas, like the boomerang that they took from older games. The game is great, but once again they broke the law... In the game God of War the main character Kratos, opens chests. But when opening these he literally crushes the top of the chest. He also will tear them apart

and flaunt his strength. In the game Darksiders, the main character War is also overly destructive to chests. He will punch the more valuable chests where the key slot is, or with less valuable chests he will slam his fists down on top of the chests, and then he will throw the top of the chest onto the ground. Another example would be that in the game God of War when the main character attacks his enemies to the point where he is about to die, he has the option to deal a gruesome finishing move. To use this gruesome finishing move, The player just has to press The button marked “B”. In the game Darksider it is the exact same thing. Specifically when attacking a demon-dog thing, one of the beginning monsters, right before it is about to die he has the chance to finish it and if he uses a finisher, you throw the monster up in the air and then cut it in

half. Game designers or just players of this great game could dispute that the way the character uses finishing moves and has a ninja blade that acts like the one in Zelda by saying that although the game has some of the same gadgets of earlier games, the visual aspects draw the player away from these similarities and add onto the items to change them. Well, another example to disprove this argument would be the map in the game. In the map of the game there are icons for chests, certain doors, and the Boss’s room. The icon for the Boss is a Large Red Skull. This goes the same for the icon for the boss in Zelda. It is a Large Red Skull. This example would disprove the argument involving scenery, because the background of the map is just a wash of dark gray. So with all scenery aside, the Large Red Skull is still the

rains of the game. Actually the game is based largely upon the main character and his horse, who have had a large friendship since their childhood. same. In the game Darksiders, as you progress through the games you kill enemies, and open chests that contain Souls in them. When you kill enemies and open these chests, you gain souls. Many expect that if a youth has been a video game player, that that person would know what makes a successful video game. However, creating a video game is a much more complex process, calling upon many skills. Cooperation between employees is crucial. The quality of the game is directly dependent on the expertise that are found each department. For example, “A producer is basically the project manager” who “try to forecast any hurdles” to keep the operations running smoothly.

The a successful game can be very rewarding. Red Fly, a relatively small developer has created “Mushroom Men” for Wii and Nintendo DS. “feels awesome to see something people [my team] have worked on being enjoyed by the consumers.” Although Video Game development is a great job, it is not all fun and games. Huge amounts of dedication are required, which often leads to burnout, a loss of interest in the workplace. “Though we [Red Fly Studio] do experience crunch modes from time to time, [but] no burnout yet.” Communication is all important to the success of the game. Miscommunication between companies can create major delays or even be be fatal to the project. As a game matures, it is harder for programmers to go back and change information without effecting recent advances on graphics or audio. Teams strive to get it right the first time, especially when they work half a world apart. Red Fly Studios worked with Zen studios in Hungary, reducing online collaboration to only two hours due to the time differences “... making sure they understood what was needed... was key.” Schooling and experience is necessary when applying for a job. Video game development is no different and knowing what you’re doing even more important in a small company since each of the members carries a larger responsibility. “You are seeing Pax takes on a Jackalope, one of his many enemies. a lot of accredited universities offer Video Game curricula now.” Mr. Barron advises that “No matter what area you decide to go in, be able to communicate.” Video game design is just as complex and difficult as any other job, but is not without its benefits. Team skill come into play to create games that the public will enjoy. Red Fly Studios is working hard, planning to “...hopefully have a sequel [for Mushroom Men] sooner rather than later” and looking forward to many more games to come.

As a child, everyone have dreamed of being a rockstar. Every time you see those musicians playing in front of thousands of people, you think to yourself, “ I want to be that famous, and I want to be as talented as he is when i grow up.” Over the years, you try to practice playing an instrument. Eventually you get bored and throw your dream away. But some people are persistent. They never give up and they never stop practicing and they never stop loving music. Anthony J. Inzana (AJ) is one of these people. In fact, he made his living out of his passion for music. He said “ As a child, music has always been an influence in my life. I was a teen ager in the 80s and that was the time when my favorite guitar players were still playing including Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan.” Playing music has been a part of AJ’s life for 21 years and he has been teaching students for the past 9 years. AJ loves music because he says it is therapy. He says “What ever mood you are in, weather you are sad, happy, lonely, energetic, etc., there

Of coarse you can talk to people, you can do activities too, but music is the best for me.” As a guitarist and a student of AJ, I also feel this way. There is nothing better than music in terms of therapy. Music can affect your life so much that you will not be able to live without it. At New York State University at Fredonia AJ studied under Mr. James Piorkowski, who is a world-renowned classical guitar player/composer and one of the originators of the Buffalo Guitar Quartet. Under Mr.Piorkowski, AJ developed self-discipline in all forms of musicianship. Mr. Piorkowski fostered in AJ and ability to interpret and feel “ownership” of the music, a skill AJ also emphasizes with his students. Also, AJ has studied with Dr. Kenneth Mayer (a graduate of Eastman School of Music).

Through the lessons with Dr. Mayer, AJ came to appreciate the integrity of classical guitar while enjoying the musical experience. In my opinion, AJ is a wonderful teacher. He has been a very intelligent and skillful guitar teacher. He is currently teaching at Austin Guitar School. He loves teaching his students and he wants to pass on what he knows to future generations. He says “ I wish my students can just plug in a memory chip to their head and know everything i know you know? But we are not computers, we are human being and we have to lean things the hard way. The important thing to remember is just to practice and never give up.”

Musical Comparisons

By Philip B.

MUSIC HAS ENTERTAINED society for as long as anyone can remember. Recently, music has diverged into two major genres: classical and popular*. Since its beginnings in the 1500s, classical music has evolved for nearly 400 years into many different forms within itself. Into the 20th century, classical music became increasingly complex, diverging from modern harmonic and rhythmic structure to produce fully original styles. Popular music as we know it today, on the other hand, is a much more recent style of music, originating in the 1940s. These two styles of music have been in conflict with each other for decades, because of their seemingly contradicting views of music. The purpose of this article is for the public to examine the aspects of both genres of music. This is important because many people have biases toward one or the other, in which case we need to see how and where each genre excels and falls short. “Music has exploded into multiple genres and styles in the last century, almost as many styles as there are artists,” says Dr. David Davenport, music major and orchestra director at L.B.J. high school. Davenport has been working in the field of music for more than forty years, and recognizes the immense diversity of musical styles that have appeared in the 20th century, from new forms of classical music to popular music. Classical music in the 20th century has evolved to be increasingly creative, both rhythmically and harmonically. Composers such as Claude Debussy and Maurice Ravel were some of the first classical composers to experiment with new harmonic structures, using polytonal, whole-tone, and pentatonic harmonies in their own compositions. Béla Bartók and Igor Stravinsky were two of the many composers to explore new rhythmic structures and complicated polyrhythms. For example, Stravinsky’s “The Rite of Spring” features constantly changing, irregular time signatures (such as 7/8 and 5/16), making it a very rhythmically complex piece of music. “Western classical art music is harmonically richer, and structurally much more sophisticated [than popular music],” says Davenport. Even though modern classical music is complex and creative, in its complexity it is often unsuccessful in identifying with the every day population. “Classical music is very boring. It doesn’t display emotion as well as [popular] music,” says Glenn Sampayan, a guitarist. Popular music today evolved from folk, blues, and jazz music. “[Popular

15

* Popular music throughout this article refers to any music (excluding jazz) other than classical music (of most sorts).

music] is ubiquitous. You hear it everywhere. It has a certain visceral appeal. It is ‘pop,’ meant to be digested by the masses,” says Davenport. In his book The Music Makers, sociologist Bernard Rosenberg explains that popular music is based on the idea that music needs to be attractive, rather than original. He shows that while many compositions in the realm of popular music do show originality (with many of its performers skilled musicians), the focus is to entertain. “Usually [popular music] is structurally and harmonically much simpler [than classical music], but dressed up with fantastic showmanship and effects,” says Davenport. Many popular music harmonies are based on a simple threechord harmony paired with a 4/4 rhythm. To make this melodic construct interesting, many popular music composers employ offbeat accents and other forms of syncopation. Despite its seeming lack of inventiveness, popular music appeals much more to the youth in America today for one very important reason. Popular music connects with every day people and their situations through lyrics. “People like [popular music] because it identifies with them. A lot of the times the lyrics talk about the ups and downs of life that everyone experiences,” says Sampayan. In the end, it is, of course, up to the listener to decide for himself what he prefers, entertainment or sophistication. 20th century classical music, in its creativity and complexity, can be a very interesting listening experience. Some people like admiring the originality and intricacy. However, some may feel more of an inner connection to popular music, with its lyrics attempting to relate to the inner feelings of the human being. W

With the new I pad coming out Allan decided to publish applications at the apple store. Al had another reason to design applications for the I pad, he

wanted to have something that he could call his own. “The secret to making an app. is getting a good developer.” Al said. The main question Al asks to decide if he should publish an application is if it will sell. A question he asks is what is the usability of the application? What personalities do the people who are using the application have? What’s more fun to them? What are the Age groups of the people he is selling this application to? Then after he researches some background information on the people he is selling to, he finds out how much it costs. After that,

is a lot simpler.” Al said. The app. itself is also simple. The title of the first app. he is making is called the I pad journal. The app. is a writing journal for journalists to write entries in. Although the app. is not just for writing journals in, it can be used to make products, like e-books. The writer can export what he has written in the journal and export them to popular websites, like facebook, or apple if they would like to sell their e-book. One thing that you can do in the application is add backgrounds to what you are writing. Some backgrounds you can pick are

flowers, speckled paper, crumpled paper, or a setting sun. One thing that this app. does that older apps do not, is that when you write to the end of the page, it flips to the next page instead of just going down. Lastly you are able to insert your own pictures into your journal, change the size of them, and rotate them. “In a way its kind of like indesign.” Al points out. Al starts working on his app at 10 am, when his partner comes over. Al designs the app. while his partner writes what they need to do and the credits and instructions. After working

till 4 or 6 pm they print out their samples and compare. After they officially finish the workday, Al works on and off on designing the app. What Al designs is the graphics and pictures in the app. “To make a shitload of money.” Al jokingly says. This was one of the reasons Al started making apps. The other reason was that when he decided to make the app. he was not working full time, he was doing his photography and he felt that he wanted to have something that he could call his own. Al currently is working on his I jour-

nal application, but he has more to come. He is going to make a lite version of the I journal, and a Deluxe version with more features. Also he is going to make a 3-D puzzle application. His I pad application is coming out on May 21.

THE FIRSTS The predecessors to the some of the games.

Chaos Faction 2 Dissolute Productions Http://armorgames.com/play/5645/chaos-faction-2

This years Caleb Award for Overall Best Game of the Year: Chaos Faction 2. Great new game with all-around awesome graphics, music, moves and characters (masks too). Go on a campaign to conquer the game, unlock new weapons and characters, and gain the skill necessary to defeat a friend in the 2-player mode. Based off of and a great sequel to Chaos Faction.

Tips: Master a chain of two back flips and side

Chaos Faction 1

Raze

This game is good, but is now extremely over shadowed by CF2. I had thought of CF1 as a great game, but now I think of it more as a prototype to greatness.

Warlords

Addison Rondomista & Justin Goncalves Http://armorgames.com/play/5395/raze

The runner-up to in the Caleb Awards: Raze. Shoot aliens, robots, zombies, and your (possessed) team members with a 10 different weapons. Whether it is dodging a rocket or lining up the killer shot, the physics of the game are crucial to your success. Two player is not an option, but the game is original (to my knowledge). This game gets the “best shooting game of all time award”. Can’t wait for the sequel game next year...

My rating: 9.75 Pros: Shooting, Tip: The rocket launcher causes major splash damage, but be able to use close quarter weapons well. Learn to dodge projecawards, and options. tiles (rockets, grenades, bio-uzzies etc...), it’ll keep you alive for Cons: No two a much longer time. player mode.

Challenge: Get a megakill and a “godly” 20 kill streak on level 26 (be afraid, be very afraid).

A pure strategy game. Get enough medieval humans (or other creatures) to cross the battle field into enemy territory while they try to invade your side as well. The game revolves around the stats, and has bad graphics, but mostly because of a birds eye view of the battle grounds. Seeing little guys fight on the screen has an odd funniness to it, but the game isn’t for serious gamers.

Stick Wars Jason Whitman & Brock White Http://armorgames.com/play/4405/stick-war

I love this game. Control the fate of Imorta as you restore peace to the land. Although the you’re pulling all the strategy strings, you can play as one of the stick figures you have deployed. Who you deploy and when is most important, but taking control of a character makes it a powerful force (literally, it boosts the attack) on the field. There are upgrades between conflicts, but they are not an essential part to your success.

Tip:

Although timing attacks with Speartans (the heavy

Ragdoll infantry) allows for kills without taking damage, learn to Avalanche: play the archer (good for preemptive attack) as well. ONE Challenge: Beat the game on Insane, without ever Same thing as Ragdoll Avalanche two, but lacking the music, with different colored spikes, and just not as fun to play. Although the game has those wonderful demotivating ending lines, the feel is just not the same. Still, the physics and skill behind mutilating the stick figure makes this a game that has lots of immediate reward for playing it.

Ragdoll Avalanche 2 Ragdollsoft Http://www.ragdollsoft.com/ragdollavalanche/

Chopped to bits. A physics game where you control a stick figure with the arrow keys and make it dodge the continuous waves of spikes. A great waste of time and your efforts to keep your stickman alive will be rewarded by one of the many taunting phrases at the end of the game. Don’t play this game if you have low self esteem or are at risk of becoming depressed. Please see a psyciatrist or a counceler if reading taunting staments may be harmful to your ego.

Tips:

Try to not be constantly moving. The stickman will be easier to control. Think of the space between spikes as a path that you must follow.

Challenge:

My rating: 5 Pros: FUN!!! Cons: You die a lot

Dodge 245 spikes beat my score. (shouldn’t be that hard)

Sin Mark Con Artist Http://armorgames.com/play/2919/sin-mark

Play as an archer on a journey to save his land from the monsters of the underworld. Destroy their portals, find trinkets and dig up runes to create different spells to place on your arrows and afflict your enemies.

Tips: Get Fear, Stone Wall and Bloat spells first. Challenge: Destroy at least 100 portals in survival mode. My rating: 7 Pros: Spell Chain Combos Cons: You’re near invincible.

Sydney Shark Mausland Entertainment

https://armorgames.com/play/5734/sydney-shark

Just keep swimming, chomping and mutilating everything that moves. The sequel to Miami Shark comes with better graphics, better sounds and new combos to achive (horse combo }:-) In short this game is very fun to play, but doesn’t require any real gaming skill.

Tips: When you have a grip on an aircraft, drag it downwards, but wait till there are a lot of ships around to drag the aircrafts into the water. Why? Larger Chain Explosion. Challenge: Get above 5 million points on your first try.

My rating: 6 Pros: Plenty of action. Cons: A noob can own this game.

Planet Noevo Survival of the resourceful. Your stranded in a shack after the planets disaster and plagued by aliens. You must survive a minimum of ten days while keeping yourself busy: collecting materials, making weapons, and killing aliens at night. The charecter lacks nothing, he (I think its a he, sorry gals) has several bars indicating his health, energy, and hunger; he can be upgraded in several stats; and the equipment you give him affects his preformance.

Tips: Invest a lot of your personal upgrades into digging speed, material benifits will come from it. Keep a supply of two rations handy at all times. Don’t go out at night. EVER.

Challenge:

Rank as one of the top 100 in the world in survival mode.

My rating: 8 Pros: Mixes shooting, tower defence and strategy. Cons: Must upgrade wisely to survive day 10

This game is for all you shooting maniacs. Blood paints the walls red and death almost has to be intentional. You collect different guns from your fallen foes, restock on your ammo, and “kill with style” to make the game interesting. However, this game is noteworthy because it can be played by all skill levels. The most important part of this game is to be aggressive. If you like this game, try playing Achilles; it’s similar to Warlord Heroes but much better.

Addicting. Play as a little marshmallow thingy and climb the descending blocks to avoid the rising flood below. The danger of this game is not so much the rising flood, but avoiding the big squish between blocks. You can slide on the sides of the block and leap on blocks that haven’t even landed yet. The height you reach before your squashed or drowned is your score.

Put a spear through some heads!!! Instant kills are fun, but chopping the enemy to bits is also rewarding. This game caters to both the agressive player that screams at the screen, or the lazy player who just wants to beat the game.

Beasting game. You control one of the three great armies of the year 1066, Vikings, Normans, or the English. The strategy aspect is planned out by you on the map below, while the skill comes in when your troops are fighting on the field above. How you perform in the fight varries the amount of success or failure that your engaged troops will have. Free mode and multi-player are options, but the competing people can not use the same computer. Instead a code is generated that will link the two computers in an epic match. Graphics are good, and the soundtrack has a few nice surprises.

Tips: Norman calvary can kill 500 Vikings in one charge. Outflanking charges are extreamly deadly. Challenge: Get the ranking of King on a large scale battle on hard.

My rating: 9 Pros: Everything. Bloodsplatters, gore and agony are intigral parts. Cons: Need to play several times to learn the tactics that are available.

Cursed Treasure Author Unknown

http://armorgames.com/play/5803/cursed-treasure

Cursed treasure is your typical tower defence game, but is a nice step up from any other tower defence I’ve played. You’re the “bad guy” keeping the “good guys” from taking your gems hidden in the cave. You have many assailants with different abilities, making harder and harder to... ... destroy (kill is such a strong term)... them quickly. While the enemies are strong by themselves, the real threat to your gems is the combination of opponents you face in a wave. (Bard+Priests+Ninjas=Getting robbed blind) The graphics are better than most while the sound track of grunts, screams, and grown men crying like babies is a welcomed sound for the aggressive player.

Tips: Put a tower at the very beginning of the path once you face ninjas.

As soon as they are hurt they’re “invisible” for 5 seconds, so if you plan well, they’ll become visible and vulnerable near your other towers.

Challenge: Get excellent on all the missions in at least your third tryon each.

My Rating: 8 Pros: Interesting combinations of enemies Cons: Repetative at times; Breeds a Fear of Ninjas

ASF Oh what? You know you would be clawing the walls if you had an arm like this.

Prototype the Game. By Chandler R.

Killing monsters, killing army people, killing zombies, and killing civilians. All in New York. Prototype is definitely impossible and insane. Of course the main character is going around seeking revenge on the people who killed him with the supernatural powers he was given...through a virus! Lucky him. What would you

do if you could turn your arms into super sledgehammers, giant claws, an extremely long whip, and a double-sided, double-bladed blade. Oh, don’t forget about having your arm turn into a shield the size of your body. SO MUCH FUN!!!!!!!

In this game, while in the process of seeking revenge, you save every day people from the hordes of zombies taking over New York. This game has its main story and plot, but you also have the choice to do side missions that are throughout New

Devastating Super Powers. In this game, you can use super attacks that use up your health, but are Devastating. That is why, in the game, these attacks are called “Devastators”. I mean it these attacks are REALLY devastating.

York. This game gives you the ability to go around and kill random people that you don’t know with your super powers. No conscience and no regrets--once again, so much fun. I really love this game. The side missions in this game allow the player to be on both sides of the battle that’s going on while you play. Just so you know,

the battle that’s going on behind you is the army fighting off the zombie hordes. You can be on the zombies’ side or the army. In this game you can’t hijack cars like in Grand Theft Auto, which this game is most like. But you can hijack helicopters and tanks. When I say that this game is most like Grand Theft Auto,

I mean that it’s Grand Theft Auto with super powers. You can use guns, you can kill people, and you can kill the army. This game gets an A++ from me.

Jimi Hendrix Jimi Hendrix Eperience

Jimi Hendrix was born on November 27th 1942 in Seattle, Washington and is remembered as one of the greatest guitarists of all time. Over the years Jimi Hendrix helped to revolutionize music by developing several guitar techniques using overdriven amplifiers to produce guitar feedback, and was one of the first performers to use stereophonic and phasing effects in the recording studio. Jimi Hendrix is also well known for his flamboyant dress sense and stage performances.

2

Eric Clapton Cream

Eric Patrick Clapton has varied his musical style throughout his career, it has always remained grounded in the blues; despite this focus, and he is credited as an innovator in a wide variety of genres. These include blues-rock (with John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers and The Yardbirds) and psychedelic rock (with Cream). Clapton’s chart success was not limited to the blues, with charttoppers in Delta Blues (Me and Mr. Johnson), Adult contemporary (“Tears in Heaven”) and reggae (Bob Marley’s “I Shot the Sheriff”; he is often credited for bringing reggae and Bob Marley to the mainstream

3

Jeff Beck Yardbirds

Much of Geoffrey Arnold “Jeff” Beck’s recorded output has been instrumental, with a focus on innovative sound and his releases have spanned genres ranging from blues-rock, heavy metal, jazz fusion and most recently, an additional blend of guitar-rock and electronica. Beck has earned wide critical praise; furthermore, he has received the Grammy Award for Best Rock Instrumental Performance five times.

4

Frank Zappa Mothers of Invention

Frank Vincent Zappa wrote rock, jazz, electronic, orchestral, and musique concrète works. While in his teens, he acquired a taste for percussion-based avant-garde composers and 1950s rhythm and blues music. He began writing classical music in high school, while at the same time playing drums in rhythm and blues bands—he later switched to electric guitar. He was a self-taught composer and performer, and his diverse musical influences led him to create music that was often impossible to categorize.

5

Keith Richards Rolling Stones

Richards prefers to play in tandem with another guitarist and has always toured with one. The 1967/68 break in the Rolling Stones’ touring allowed Richards to focus on open tunings. Open tunings are commonly used for slide guitar, but Richards used them for rhythm playing. In doing so, he developed an innovative and distinctive style of syncopated and ringing I-IV chording. Richards has often favored a five-string variant of open G tuning. Several of his Telecasters are tuned this way, and this tuning is prominent on Rolling Stones tracks and concert renditions.

The Top Guitar Players of the Decade! By: Glenn S.

1

Eddie Van Halen Van Halen

Eddie Van Halen’s innovative use of two-handed tapping, natural and artificial harmonics, vibrato, and tremolo picking, combined with his rhythmic sensibility and melodic approach, have influenced an entire generation of guitarists; he is also known for energetic and acrobatic stage performances.

2

Jimmy Page Led Zeppelin

Page’s past experiences both in the studio and with the Yardbirds were very influential in contributing to the success of Led Zeppelin in the 1970s. As a producer, composer, and guitarist he helped make Led Zeppelin a prototype for countless future rock bands. Jimmy Page is a guitar icon who has influenced modern musicians due to his emblematic riffs and solos along his years with Led Zeppelin. Being a renown studio recorder, his range of tones and styles is versatile, being a master of both electric and acoustic guitars, he is regarded as one of the creators of Heavy Metal.

3

Stevie Ray Vaughan Double Trouble

Vaughan’s blues style was influenced by many blues guitarists. Vaughan’s sound and playing style, which often incorporated simultaneous lead and rhythm parts, drew comparisons to Hendrix. Vaughan covered several Hendrix tunes on his studio albums and in performance, such as “Voodoo Child (Slight Return),” and “Third Stone from the Sun.” He was also heavily influenced by Freddie King, another Texas bluesman, mainly in the use of turnarounds. Vaughan also took considerable influence from jazz guitarists.

4

Joe Satriani Chickenfoot

Satriani is recognized as a technically advanced rock guitarist. He has mastered many performance techniques on the instrument, including legato, two-handed tapping and arpeggio tapping, volume swells, harmonics, and extreme whammy bar effects. One of his trademark compositional traits is the use of pitch axis theory, which he applies with a variety of modes. He is also adept at other speedrelated techniques such as sweep picking, but does not often use them.

5

Steve Vai Solo

Vai’s playing style has been characterized as quirky and angular, owing to his technical ability with the instrument and deep knowledge of music theory. He regularly uses odd rhythmic groupings and his melodies often employ the Lydian mode. Perhaps his most readily-identifiable stylistic feature is his creative use of the floating vibrato, using it to add melodic lines that sound odd to the ear. His playing can also be described as lyrical, as if sung by a human voice.

= Badass Heroes of 2009-2010 By Chandler R. Cole Macgrath Infamous

Alex Mercer Prototype

Cole is definantly Badass. Before Cole got his powers he was a package carrier in new york. That’s actually how he got his powers. His powers? He can control electricity. Yes he can shoot bolts of lighting at his enemies, and shoot waves of electricty that knocks all enemies in the area backwards. You know what the coolest thing about Cole is? It’s that before he even got his powers he could climb up buildings like in the game assasins creed. That is a dubble Whammy.

Alex was just a normal guy that was mysteriously killed. Then came back to life. When Alex came back to life he had powers. He can change his arms into weapons, such as claws, hammers, whips, or a giant double bladed, double sided sword. Also he can change his arms into a giant shield, or make a suit of armor cover his entire body. Alex is a cold blooded killing machine that goes through Newyork killing everyone he sees.

Nate Drake Uncharted 2 Nate Drake is Badass. He goes through an island killing hundreds of military men. All with just the guns his enemies drop, and the ones he starts off with. Nate Drake just will not die. He will sprint through buildings and killing twenty men without stopping, all the while he is being shot at by a helicopter. Badass enough? The first thing Nate wakes up to is being in a train dangling from a bridge. And the cart he is in is about to fall into a canyon.

Dante Alighieri Dantes Inferno Dante goes to hell to save his wife, Beatrice. He goes to hell. Hell. Hell. Dante tavels through the nine levels of hell and kills hordes of monsters and sinners. Also the devil. The weapon he uses is called the Death Scythe, wich is bassically a giant scythe that is twice his size. The monster he kills are basically twelve times his size. Basically. He fights an army of sinners, just imagine one man versus thousands of skeletal monsters.

Big Daddy Bouncer Bioshock 2

Black Baron Mad World

This Big Daddy is technically not a villian. He is just a normal Big Daddy with a little girl of his own. But he stands in the way of the main charcter goal, his little girl. Big Daddy Bouncer has a giant conical drill attached to his arm right of above the right elbow. These kind of Big Daddies focus more on brute force. This Big Daddy got its name by slamming its drll into the ground creating a shock wave. Big Daddy Bouncer = Badass.

The Black Baron is the creator of the Bloodbath challenges throughout the game. Though he turns out to be the demonstrator of the bloodbath challenges. In a suprise twist the Black Baron turns out to be the reigning champion of the deathwatch tournament. As you can see from the picture, the Black Baron is a pimp. When Jack fights the Black Baron he (the Black Baron) uses his fists, like a boxer. Pimp, Boxer, and Badass.

= Badass Villians of

2009-2010

By Chandler R. The Covenant Halo Games The covenant are some of the most badass villians out there. They have the Brutes, basically smart gorrilas, the brutes are the comanding officers and are usually accompainied with Grunts, or Jackels. The Hunters, monsters with laser cannons. Hunters are usually found in pairs. Then there are the Jackels that are snipers, and foot men. Jackels are creepy. Finally there are the Grunts, the sidekick to the other alians. Every villian needs a crazy, comical, yet dangerous sidekick.

Vladimir Makarov Modern Warfare 2 Starting his career with the Spetsnaz, he served two tours in Chechnya. It is believed that a company under his command were involved with some of the most brutal “cleansing” raids. Makarov was found by Zakhaev, and when he died Makarov got a lot of power within the terrorist organization. Makarov is in some really Brutal masacres in the game. The main one he is in is the Airport massacre where he slaughters civilians.
