Machinimists a Dream Job? Playing with video games all day sounds like a dream come true. “All you have to play games, what’s so good about that?” Well whats good is your creating entertainment for people and have patience to create a new form of art. This job may seem like a great oppurtunity for people who enjoy gaming, but it may require more then you may believe.
By-Elliott Thacker Charles Arscott quickly begins running from the car, a steady tick tick ticking noise follows him as he ducks behind a wall. “PSHSHSHSHS” can be heard as the cars and surrounding people are blown to bits…..The light blue glow of the LCD screen feels the room as Arscott sighs and begins to re-edit the scene on his screen. Machinimators like Arscott use video games as an art form to make animations or stories. This can be difficult if the person that follows this career path has a lack of motivation, passion or time. Entertainment is a broad subject, and things such as video games are used to entertain a person. “I think using videogames in terms of 6
my videos make video games more of a art, I generally appreciate the time and work that takes to make one. Yeah I say that I have more of a fulfilling experience learning the in and outs of the game,”Charles Arscott said. In many situations in life kids are told to follow their dreams or to work with what they love, this can be done but in life it will be as most things are ruined by having to do it, wanting to do it. All is good in moderation but for an animator, working with video games, they have to play a game to make money. They need to know more about the game to create a animation and need to have learned how to go into a game and actual change things for a animation. For them gaming evolves beyond something to entertain themselves but to entertain others.
“I enjoy sporting activities [lacrosse] a lot, because its not my job, its my hobby, and I enjoy building stuff like Legos,” Arscott said. Machinimators take gaming beyond playing the game and creates more of a situation where it’s not just for personal use but for the use of the masses to feel entertainment. Everyone enjoys a break from work, but what do animators do if video games are their go-to for a break? Unless they enjoy gaming a lot, they may find other passions or hobbies. Machinimator use video games as there form of art, creating a more entertaining animation for others to enjoys. But in creating their own work from a game allows them to see more into the work gone into a game and how much time and effort is put into a game.
“I didn’t actually have any formal training like I said I watched a lot of YouTube tutorials and what not, and that would be the only formal training I had. It’s definitely a lot easier if you take a class because then you have professional guiding you,” said Arscott. Working in animation requires you to be able to go into a game and create your own words and actions of the characters. Animating, if given the time can be done by anyone who has the background knowledge and skills. The more effort you put into a animation, will get more out of it. Animating involves writing a skit, acting it and then editing through all the clips you take.
A fantastic Q&A with a machinimator, Charlie Arscott: Q: Why did you began a career in entertainment and machinimators? Charles Arscott:“People were getting laughs out of me anyway so I might as well start charging them for it, also I don’t know I like to make people laugh.I think being able to entertain is a really fulfilling experience and I like video games also.” Q: Who inspired you to go into entertainment? CA: “ The art form of Ray William Johnson, he just a very funny guy and his downtrodden look on humanity I really admire, also Tobuscus is a god amongst men and if you disagree then **** you” Q: Is machinamating difficult, if someone has trouble where do you suggest they look? CA: “It really just takes time and perseverance. Also YouTube is a great resource for people looking to gain the skills necessary to animate stuff.” Q What task do you find more difficult editing or creating skits? CA: “ In terms of more difficulties, in terms of what i have to do for my skits and all that, I’d say editing is generally a lot more time consuming”
“I look at society and a lot of situations where people are stupid. A lot of things that I remember is think about how stupid the average person is and then remember that half of them are stupider than that and thats where I draw inspiration for most of my videos,” said Arscott. For most entertainers they can’t all be completely original. They need to have something that made them decide to follow
Machinima.com is where you can find many Machinimists work, such as Charles Arscott.
“Skyrim, any Bethesda game because this course as a career its so easy for you to and to a place where mod it and for you to they draw inspiration capture it, the kind of from. To be an animator crazy [stuff] in games takes time and a lot like Grand Theft Auto of tenacity to keep on but Skyrim and any with getting everything Bethesda game is mainly you need done. To be what I use to operate, ” a entertainer you need Arscott said. to be able to actual entertain. Animators need to have a set games they Machinimators use many work with or a variety of games. For some people type of games for their animations, some games these are games like G-mod (Garry’s Mod) are easier to work with, so depending on the skill which is used to make level effects whats game animations but some people go into certain you use.
games and use them for their animations. Gamers use a variety of consoles. In many ways entertainers enjoy their media even after work, but they do have other hobbies completely separate of what they use to work with. Working in animation can be very fulfilling and can be a job that can be done with little previous experience, and patience. “It really just takes time and perseverance,” Arscott said. DV 7

10 Best Things to do During the Summer Survey results reveal that among some of the brightest minds in Austin, these are The Top 10 Things to do This Summer. These things are what helps them relax after working hard for the full year. If these can make them relax after all the work they do, there’s sure to be something in here that’ll make anyone relax better than ever before. 1:SWIMMING seems to be the most popular activity for obvious reasons(the unbearable Texas heat). 2: GOING TO THE MALL also seems to be right up there from research (although mainly from girls). 3: THE BEACH is very popular also, though more so from older students. 4: THE MOVIES is widely well liked with all ages, probably because there’s a movie for everyone. 5: GETTING ICE CREAM is popular for all ages, being another reprieve from that Texas heat.
By-Andrew Emmick 6: GOING TO A FAIR / CARNIVAL is not the most popular, but its a country past-time, and you can’t beat a classic. 7: FISHING is another of those popular past times, and it can be very relaxing, if that’s what people are looking for. 8: SIX FLAGS FIESTA TEXAS is very fun, but the heat makes it difficult to enjoy the rides to the full9: DRIVING is actually popular, although really only among those who just got they’re licenses, though the appeal is understandable. 10: CAMPING is the last of our top 10 things to do this summer, though its certainly not least with all the people who like being close to nature, living out there in the wilderness and being at peace with the trees and animals.

James Bond, From DR.No to Skyfall and Beyond By-Jakob Dornhofer The year is 1962 the first James Bond movie, Dr. No just started filming. Later that same year the first EON Production James Bond hit theatres across the world. Many years and movies later the franchise celebrates its 50th anniversary. In this amazing journey of fast paced action and suave one liners one thing stays the same: The love and anticipation of the next movie. After the first movies were a raving success the public cried for more movies. After “Thunderball hit theatres the production team was burnt out. Two years later the next movie came out and was another instant hit. At this point they decided to add quality over quantity and took more time to make each installment. With this being done the movies were spaced further apart but had more
Daniel Craig as James Bond in skyfall
packed into them. Then in 1969 Sean Connery, the first person to play Bond. Decided he would no longer play Bond. The producers then scrambled to find a new Bond and finally came up with George Lazenby. Lazenby was only signed for one movie and because Connery didn’t like his acting style he decided to sign on for a final movie. After the contracts of both Connery and Lazenby ran out they had to have auditions for a new James Bond. The producers and writers decided on signing Roger Moore
as the next Bond. Moore took the way Bond was portrayed into a whole new direction. He showed him as a calm, smooth talking, and always well dressed gentleman. Even with this change in character the movies were still widely loved. When Moores contract was coming to an end the producers started to renew the search for the next Bond. This search brought Timothy Dalton into the spotlight who they hired for two movies. After the second and last of Daltons movies came to theatres in 1989. The franchise came
to an end. Many thought it would never return but in 1994 it was rumored that the franchise might start back up. Later that same year the producers announced that they had started filming on the seventeenth Bond movie with a new actor signed to play Bond. The public rejoiced in happiness with this news. With Pierce Brosnan leading the franchise into a new era of gadgets and electronics, stunts, cars, and women. The movies where all instant hits. with four new Bonds released and Brosnans contract ended
there was another break of three years. In the beginning of 2005 filming started on Casino Royale. with a star studded cast and a young and ambitious Daniel Craig playing a new and tougher Bond. With two new movies released the 23 movie set to start filming at the end 2009 the franchise had its first major crisis. The studio company , MGM inc. was in financial trouble. This forced the start of filming to be pushed back until the funding resumed this didn’t happen until 2010. With funding back it looked like filming would resume but this was not the case. The director, Sam Mendes was burnt out. He needed a break before he could continue working. After another year of delay filming finally resumed. With the entire movie done in one year, and the fans of the franchise still on the edge of their seats in anticipation of the newest installment. The
movie was a raving success. In the movie James Bond (Daniel Craig) completely revamps who he is. Going back to the old smooth talking style that was portrayed in the Connery-Moore era. In this installment Q, the man providing Bond with his high-tech gadgets. Was reintroduced after having been omitted in the first two Craig movies. The producers also brought back Miss. Moneypenny the secretary to Bond's boss M. For the first time since “Licence to Kill” the actor to play Bond’s boss, M returns to a male character. Having made another block
buster the production team announced the planned release date for the 24 installment 23, Oct, 2015. Having revealed very little
news on the new movie, fans of the franchise are back to playing the waiting game. DV

The second Glitch is go to the Dark chao garden and go to the gameboy machine with sonic when you get there go to the right side of it and walk very slowly and you will slowly start to go through the invisable barrier and you will be able to leave the chao garden and go to the island you see in the back but when you get there it is justa picture.

Leo, the lion being used currently. History: Leo the Lion is the mascot for the Hollywood film studio Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and one of its predecessors, Goldwyn Pictures, featured in the studio’s production logo, which was created by the Paramount Studios art director Lionel S. How They Think By- Christian S. Flores
The difference between a childs mind and an adults mind of how they think about movies.
Have you ever wondered how adult thoughts on movies differ from a childs/teens thoughts on movies. Well have you? It would be interesting to figure out how their thoughts differ on a movie with a powerful meaning for more mature grown ups than a movie that is meant to entertain children. The two movies that have been selected are 42 the movie about how Jackie Robinson became a famous African American Baseball player, and Monsters University a movie about monsters from Monsters Inc. the movie going to college. When the two selected people, one adult one teen, watched the movie 42 this was their thoughts when asked the same questions. Do you feel that this movie had a valuable lesson to be learned? “ Yes I feel that this movie had a powerful 21
meaning about how skin color should not stop you from following your dreams you should try for your goals no matter what, and Jackie Robinson portrayed that message very well.” -Mary Rendon Of course the adult would get it because they have more real life experience when it comes to indentifying these sorts of things because they themselves might have been through some hard times themselves where they had to work hard to follow their dreams. Now here is the teen’s answer. “ Yes and no it has a good message of how appearance is only skin deep and how skin color shouldn’t stop you and stuff but honestly the movie was kinda lagging and boring because segregation isn’t even around anymore so why send us this message now shouldn’t you have sent this message when segregation was still
around?” proper rating of pg-13 -Alyssa Martinez because I do not feel They both seemed to children under that age answer the same but would understand or Mary seemed to be more comprehend what they into it and had more in were referencing and the depth detail about the child would get bored lesson of the movie and most likely leave/ weather as Alyssa was stop watching or fall bored with the movie but asleep weather as us she got what the main older more intelligent lesson of the movie was. people can comprehend Here is what they said the true meaning/moral in regards to the second of the story.” question asked. The -Mary Rendon question asked was “Do Mary made some very you think this movie was valid points that a child given a proper rating as would get very bored if in do you feel everyone they did not know the should be able to see it?” concept of which the “Yes it was given a movie is portraying but
its not the same in all cases. some might be interested in the topic of the movie yet I don’t think anyone would take their 5-10 year old child to see a movie like this. Here is what Alyssa had to say. “sure why not you’re never too young to learn a message like never give up and chase your dreams never let anything stand in your way.” -Alyssa Martinez In both of what they said they had valid points. Alyssa said that you’re never too young to learn about never giving up and to chase your dreams and don’t ever let anything stand in your way, and Mary said that although it has a good lesson little children would get bored with the movie and posably stop watching it. So they both
had valid reasoning on what they were talking about. Now its time for the next movie Monsters University. After watching this movie they were given fairly similar questions as before. Here are their answers for the first question that they were asked. The question was “Do you feel this movie portrayed a message? If so how?” and this is what they answered. “No I do not feel it did I feel like it was just one of those movies that families watch together to spend time together there was no real emotion or message in other words to me I feel like it was a huge waste of time.” -Mary Rendon “Yes I did think it portrayed a message about how you must
truly work hard to get what you want in life like how mike studied none stop and thats all he cared about. To me it was like you should put your work before friends although save sometime for a little fun now and then. This movie also portrayed another message and then. This movie also portrayed another message cheating is never answer to anything example sully cheated for mike and they got expelled and became mail workers.” -Alyssa Martinez Its surprising that this time the teenager got the message and the adult didn’t weird flip in how who sees what right? After that question I asked this next question “Did it Deserve the rating it got? Why?” “Yes because it is a
family childs movie with no meaning but to make people smile and laugh.” -Mary Rendon “ Yes but because it was meant for little kids and usually animated movies are rated Pg. but yes this movie other than being Pg it should get 5 stars because of the messages and how creative this movie was altogether.” -Alyssa Martinez In the end I noticed that Mary (the adult) got the meaning of the more mature movie and Alyssa (the teen) got the meaning of the more child entertaining movie. This brings the conclusion maybe adults can grasp certain things that children can’t and maybe children can grasp things that adults can’t. 22
