very where you turn you see employees in red and never ending shelves of groceries and house hold objects. HEB has isles for everything from toilet paper to wine. But what you might not find an isle for is your very own friendly music producer. in his very own home studio Gary Bullard is working hard at creating another track to match his friends vocal cords. Gary is a HEB employee, father, and a music creator. He can create music from scratch, all of it came from his very own head. He has been working on his music for 38 years in a row. “I have been fascinated with music all my life, but the earliest memory of me making music is from when I was 10 years old.” Gary told me. 10 years old is a really early time to be thinking like a music producer, but I guess if you have the drive and the momentum anything is possible. As a child Gary would bang on cans and spit beats with his other friends making music that anyone would enjoy. Many people in the family know that Gary is quite the artist, the way he creates best with his art is music. “The thing that I like most about music is that I can create. When I have something in my head, its as if it just comes out through music.” Many people like to look at music videos or listen
to the radio to get their inspiration, but not Gary. His inspiration does not come from what he looks at but what type of mood he is in at the time. Many people have got the idea that they wanted to be a music producer from watching other people, others get the gut feeling a different way. “When I was younger me and a couple of friends would hit cans in a certain pattern to make it sound like music. I also used to be in a band with a couple of schoolmates and from practicing over and over I decided that I wanted to create my own tracks with electronic instruments.” And he is creating his own tracks indeed. There are a lot of instruments that people use to produce beats. Most people just use their favorite instruments and others just use what they feel comfortable with. As we were walking around in his music studio I

TALENTS LOCKED AWAY My Reasons Why Lil Wayne should be locked up for more than one year!!

indsay Lohan violated her parole failing her drug tests repeatedly and only got 90 days in jail and 90 days in rehab. A regular non-celebrity person would have been gotten 15 months added to the time that they were supposed to be going and rehab would have been based on their choice. Paris Hilton was caught with cocaine and she served no time for what she did as for a just a regular person like you and me would have served at least 6 years for having coke for an unlawful purpose. T.I and Tiny were both under the influence for having drug possession. Neither got as much time as they should have gotten. T.I was going to be locked up for 2 years but instead his time was reduced to 11 months because he saved a suicidal person and wife Tiny just got house arrest. For the same crime a person on the street would have gotten 3 to 5 years of Court Probation. Lil Wayne was in possession of a weapon that he did not have a license for. He was only sentenced for 12 months but 8 months on good behavior. Someone who had the same weapon, which happened to be a 40-caliber semiautomatic gun, would have gotten 7
years at the maximum. Celebrities have gotten the right to go around the law just because they have money. Does that seem fair to you? Lil Wayne pleaded guilty to having the possession of a 40-caliber semiautomatic hand held gun in a Manhattan court room. He was sentenced for 12 months but placed on 8 months with good behavior. If a person on the street had committed the same crime they would have gotten 7 years at the maximum according to the Law of Criminal Defense of New York. Another reason why he should be locked up is because in 2007 he committed the same exact crime but the only difference is that in 2007 he was charged with a small hand-held pistol which was on his tour bus. But later on after Lil Wayne served his time the body guard fessed up and said that it was actually his pistol, but the case was dismissed. This time the gun actually happened to be his. Last but not least if he went to jail he would be showing kids that think that just because you are a celebrity you still get treated like a human being that isn’t above the law. Most little kids think that just
because you become famous that would mean that you don’t go to jail. Lil Wayne should just to do the full 7 years and maybe 2 years on good behavior. According to the Criminal Defense of New York someone who was caught with medium size weapon without a license would be put away for about 7 years. I think that the judge should have been stricter on him and it should not have mattered weather he was a celebrity or not. Dewayne (Lil Wayne’s Government Name) may say that he is a martian or say that he isn’t a human being but he is a human and should be treated like one. If we keep letting celebrities get away with the crimes that they cause then they won’t really learn a lesson they would just keep making the same old “mistakes”. Celebrities need to know that the law applies to them to. And they judge that sends these celebrities to jail should be stricter on them. I mean like whats they worse that’s going to happen. No free concert tickets? Concert tickets or not the judge shouldn’t be scared to give the celebrities what they need. And what they need is justice. I think that since he committed the same crime minus the drugs he should have been charged harder than that. Dewayne should have learned his lesson the first time. Maybe he would have learned his lesson the first time if the judge had just done his/her job and gave him the time that he deserved. Hopefully he won’t be doing the same crime again when he gets out or else the time should be A LOT harder and a lot longer. Little kids who want to be rappers think that it is cool because most rappers either don’t have to do the time for the crime or they don’t have to go for the whole time. This isn’t good because then little kids think that if they become a rapper or a singer or someone famous that they can do crime and just get away with it. Lil Wayne would have been a great example if he was doing the right amount of time that he should have done. If Wayne did the time that he was supposed to do then little kids who look up to him would see that just because you are a celebrity does not make you above the law. Having knowledge of this would make little kids aware of the fact that it does not matter if you are Lil Wayne or Pairs Hilton you still have to make the right decisions and you still have to do the right thing because somewhere out there there is a little kid who looks up to you, who thinks you are the most coolest celebrity in the world. They would also think that you are even cooler if you did the amount of time that a REAL human should be assigned to do. In conclusion I think that Lil Wayne should be locked up for more than a year because he has committed the same crime
once before and he should have learned his lesson although it was his “JAIL FREE” card. If Wayne did the whole time that he should have gotten then i think that it would show little kids that no matter what you decide to do when you grow up , you still have to follow the law and you still have to serve the time for the crime. Although Lil Wayne’s new sung may be tittled “I’M NOT A HUMAN BEING” in fact he is a human being and the judge should have treated him as such and gave him the time that a man off the street would have gotten. Dewayne will be getting out in November and hopefully we will see a changed man that has thought about his actions and he won’t make the same mistakes.
The One The Only LBJ Band [By: Kianna N.]

ot knowing anybody, walking into a place where you feel all alone, yet you dont know that everyone around you feels left out as well. In the room is fulled wondering would you ever fit in there or even if you belong there. In this case only the marching bands would know from personal experience. On the first day of school everybody feels lonely, but not the students of the LBJ Band because over the summer they got to be close and like a close knit family. “My first day of summer band i almost passed out i forgot my water. i went in the restroom and sat there until it was over” tuba player Jenera says. Over the summer, and last past month the marching band has been hard a work learning the marching sets in the hot sun. unlike the rest of the school they have been working on memorizing their music since the one by in June and finished up in the beginning of august. Tranistioning from middle school to high school that is near LBJ is a great advantage to knowing people in the band. “I knew Cody, Gilbert and Aalyia from Garica middle school” Jenera tells me. The year had just ended and the freshman were fresh out of middle school, then having to attend a band meeting and on top of that if LBJ was not your home school, not knowing anybody. making new friends would be your only chose.
Meeting new friends was fairly easy for Jenera being a tuba player she had no problem befriending Alirc. or anybody else as a matter of fact the band students a very welcoming and nice. “I met Kianna we became best friends i would say i don’t know how she feels. I remember Kianna came to me and asked me what my name was.” This is a common way to start a conversation within the band community, if you don’t play the same instruments.“ I made lots of friend most of them play different instruments though.” there are so many people in the band and so many diffenent instrumest you cant help but to know aless two or three people dont play the same as you do.
The band being mixed with both LBJ and LASA has a great advantage “It really helps in school because on the first day of school i knew lots of people most lasa students but its OK they can help me with my work.“ jenera commented. The band is like a big click or family per say. they perform together, they have the same classes, they study together, then even practice together 4 days a week. “ i really enjoy preform next to my friends its really cool.” the band is also a great
way of getting to meet students from other schools for example the LBJ band had an opportunity the march with the Reagan band at half time at the LBJ v.s Reagan game. The LBJ band has contrubited to the creation of many friendships as well as relationships. The LBJ band is like a way of life where everyone can share their ideas and have fun playing music. Since the school is divided into two sections, LBJ and LASA, it is a good way to bring the school together as one.
It is really awesome to see the school perfom as it shows the unity of both schools.

♫BREAKING DOWN♪ “Nelly 5.0” am doing an album review on the number one rap album that made the biggest jump from the bottom all the way to the top. The number one rap album that made the biggest jump was “Nelly 5.0”. This album has been on the charts for one week and its already made it the top. There was a lot of collaborations on this CD, including Birdman, Chris Brown, Keri Hilson, Yo Gotti, Kelly Rowland, and much more. All the songs but one were up tempo and it made you want to move your body and feet to the beat. The only song that was down tempo and a little bit more serious, makes the ladies say “AWWWW” and is highly recommended for the fellas to listen to.“I’m The Best” featuring Nicki Minaj song is my favorite on the album because i like the beat and i can relate because people have said that i wouldn’t be able to make it in LASA, but I’m proving them all wrong. This song is the song that everyone should listen to when they are feeling discouraged and feeling like they can’t make it.I like “I’m Number 1” featuring Birdman and DJ Khaled because i can dance to it, but most importantly because i want to be like them. I want to be able to sit back and rap about what I’m buying and make people jealous.“Long Gone” featuring Chris Brown and Plies is also one of my top favorites because it has Chris Brown and because its really sweet because he really wants to be with her. This song reminds would make almost any girl want to jump into his arms because he is persistent and he is determined to get her.“She’s So Fly” featuring T.I is sweet but i just don’t like it. T.I and Nelly could have done something a LOT better. Look both, to the right and to the left, just like you would do when crossing the road. Replacing the cars are people texting, commenting, emailing, and chatting. These people are constantly looking up at every two or so words to make sure the teacher doesn’t see them. Look the other way. It is like an exact replica of what was just going on. Some think it’s distracting. Others think it’s necessary. Social networking has affected the lives of many people in multiple ways. Facebook, Myspace, Texting and others start the issues in both family and academic lives. Students think it is so tempting do these actions, therefore consequences happen. “I text 24/7, except when I’m taking a shower or sleeping or eating, possibly. If my dad’s there, I won’t, but if he is not there I will, and during class too…The teacher isn’t paying attention” says Barbara Falcon, a student that attends the Liberal Arts and Science Academy. Barbara started texting at her old school just because everyone started. She has had a phone since 6th grade but barely started to text. “I started texting last December, and now I’m not in my old school, I have to text my friends and other people who are important.” Many people believe the same thing. Texting friends is the main reason for why people text in class. A survey(with Text plus) was done to show the percentage of people texting, and it said that more than half say they text with friends who are actually sitting in the same classroom. Mrs. Zucker, a Liberal Arts and Science Academy student advocate, believes otherwise, “For some students, it’s just not being able to set boundaries with friends. Being able to see how many fun things there are to do and deciding which things” she says. “I think the big distraction is just figuring how to sort out which information you should react to and which one you shouldn’t.” Mrs. Zucker believes that students have different problems. “A lot of students spend a lot of time on the internet,” she says. “A lot of students spend a lot of time on Facebook, and some on the phone and texting, some socializing.” Texting. Most student’s text every minute. But Facebook, Mrs. Zucker guesses about 3 to 4 hours. “It’s amazing how much time goes by” she says.
“So, you are doing your homework, you’ve figured how much time you have to get that, do your homework… You know it’s a reasonable time. Its 9 o’ clock you got about 2 hours. Everything’s going to be cool. And you do some and you get on the internet, and then suddenly you’re on Facebook, and suddenly it’s 11:30. You don’t know how that happened. It’s that. It just eats time and you don’t know it’s happening…If you’re one of those people that 11:30 you thought, oh, it’s supposed to be 9:05, then it’s really negative.” Agreeing with Mrs. Zucker, Barbara says “I used to be a straight A student… Over here in this school, you have to really pay attention to what’s going on around you, and I don’t pay attention cause I’m texting, so it brought my grades down to like C’s. And now, I’m bringing them back up to B’s because I text a little bit less.”

And you lose appreciation for how special that is.” Although some may think that this is a school problem, Mrs. Zucker says that it is more of a parenting issue. “It’s a really hard parenting issue,” she says. “If parents buy their student’s iPods and things that you can get on the internet anywhere.” Mrs. Zucker makes her point that this issue is not in the school’s control. “It’s up to the parents,” she says. “And parents have to decide what consequences they’re willing to give to their own child.” Mrs. Zucker says that the school can’t tell the parents or the student what to do. The only thing that the staff can do is give the parents options such as putting a type of parental control on distractions. Mrs. Zucker says that the issue with this is that sometimes the student’s turns out to be really rebellious. But, “A lot of the times when people are very rebellious, it’s like a fear that you’re going to tell them something really awful to solve the problem. It’s not like they really don’t want to stop.” Mrs. Zucker says. “I wanted help, but I wanted the right kind.” Not only students are being affected by social networking. Teachers and family members are also affected. “I’m sure it’s really aggravating to teachers. I’ve had teachers tell me that one of my students was texted by a marine recruiting officer during class, for example. And she was pretty upset by it. But you know, I’m not a teacher, so I really wouldn’t want to speak for teachers because that’s such a huge thing to deal with. But, I am sure, I’m sure it is very frustrating to them” Mrs. Zucker says. Barbara also says, “My mom got mad and then she made a big scene at McDonalds and she was saying, “I’m going to take your phone away if you don’t pay attention to what we’re doing… And then she took away my phone, and then I started crying for my phone.”
Relating to Barbara, Mrs. Zucker says, “I think it tends to isolate people a little bit because you’re spending so much time on the computer and not with your family. And then you get all that stimulation on the computer, you know, there’s five or six things happening at once but when you sit with your family, there’s only 3 or 4 people to talk to, right, and you start thinking that’s not fun. It’s so boring, you know. And you lose appreciation for how special that is, right?” Fortunately, Mrs. Zucker says she is going to think about this issue and do anything to help those students. “So one thing that we do, if someone lets us know they’re struggling with that issue is that we help them, monitor them, and come up with structures so that they don’t fall in to it. But we’re not doing anything over it, but maybe we should. But were just individuals too, unless they tell us” says Mrs. Zucker. Luckily for Barbara Falcon, there will always be that aid from Mrs. Zucker, if she needs it. Mrs. Zucker is aware of this issue and is willing to help.

remember when I used to pass notes to my friends in class without my teacher knowing. These words were very common, “Pass this to Rebecca.” These days (or nowadays, etc.)There is another method of doing this. This method is known as texting. texting is an easier way in passing notes, it is more effective. Texting has become the main source for improper grammar and “short cuts” such as “cuz,” “4”, “dis.” (because, for, and this, respectively) Texting is not just being done at school; students text at any place that has signal. What is more shocking is that students are unaware that at the dentist, there is a clearly stated sign that says,”TURN OFF PHONES.” Texting is even happening here. Texting while accompanied is not a good way of making friends. People find texting to me disrupting and RUDE. So, DON’T DO IT. Texting has affected the grammar of many students, and is one of the main reasons for why they don’t pay attention in class. Students and proffesors say that texting during class is somewhat bothersome, and ill-manered. Texting in class is wrong. Have people realized that it is rude, and the teachers are spending their time to teach you, and you take advantage of the time, to text with your friends that are in the same class. Then, you expect the teacher to explain the lesson afterschool. Spending time isn’t the only issue with texting. GRAMMAR!

Kat Dailey believes that , “while mid-conversation texting is rude and tacky, I don’t think a first date has to exist under some electronic cone of silence.” There are many people that would just walk away if a person even answers their phone(unimportant) in the middle of our conversation.
