LASA freshman Jack Liu is ranked 1745th in the nation, in tennis, for the graduation year of 2016. This is a biography on how he got so far in a short three years.

English teacher here at LASA High School. During the district game, Jack won every match he played. “He has strong fundamentals, he is athletic, and he plays intelligently. He sets a good example for the rest of the team and is a strong opponent for his practice partners,” Coach Snyder said. “Liam has more body mass and a little more power, Jack is usually quicker on his feet. Liam has been playing tennis for a very long time and can play instinctively -
“the level of play rises exponentially at regionals and we will face some competition.” he thinks strategically, but he plays a little more in-themoment than Jack does. Despite his athleticism, Jack seems to have a more cerebral game than Liam. This usually works to his advantage as he thinks out his tactics. It can backfire however when he gets in his head and psychs himself out. This will continue to improve as he matures and gains even more play experience,” Snyder says. Antonio Skillicorn, a teammate and longtime friend of Liu, is ranked eighth on the LBJ varsity tennis team. Skillicorn has been playing tennis for most of his life and practices for hours everyday. Skillicorn has been told by the coach that he should be ranked higher, but somehow he just can’t beat his teammates that are ranked above him. Skillicorn doesn’t believe that he has enough skill to play
tennis in college, but he will continue to enjoy the sport for the rest of his life. Skillicorn believes that Liu does not have what it takes to reach the level of playing that will be needed if he were to play tennis in college. Snyder believes that due to having a rather young team, winning regionals seems a bit far fetched this year. Currently there is only one senior on the team. “The level of play rises exponentially at Regionals and we will face some very tough competition, there are state champs in the mix there. Last year we won two rounds and lost two rounds. I expect similar results this year,” Snyder said. “Regionals are very competitive and difficult, I’m hoping to win at least one match, but in the future I believe I will have what it takes to win more.” Liu said.
