Their him and his siblings. It’s also a way that Villa can show his parents the motto is Designed for Greatness, because they believe that every individual is unique, special, and strong enough to accomplish their goals. When someone is “designed,” they are created differently, and both Kucera and Villa agree that’s the superpower everyone has to help them achieve greatness. They became good friends at the beginning of their sophomore year and by the end of that year, they realized they shared a lot of the same common goals. From leaving a mark on the world through a company, to economically supporting their entire family; Kucera and Villa are a great team because they listen to each other. “A lot of people always ask me why Kendall and I work so well together and the reason is that we support each other through the good and bad moments,” Villa said.

Kucera and Villa are alike because he wanted to make something that he could send out a message to the people, and Villa has that same goal because he believes that people are designed for greatness. They could help out people in a way that would

In the process of making a collection, it brought problems to Kucera and Villa, because they didn’t have all the knowledge they now have . They were new to the clothing scene and were slowly trying to get to the spot where they wish to be.

embroidering shirts and hats. Mrs. Anne collaborated with Grandioso to help the business have a logo. Villa said that he loved the way it made the logo look in the shirts and the hoodies as well which made the message more significant. “The most important thing in a embroidery business is to have an artistic sense because you really have to put in dedication towards what you do” Anne said.
Kucera and Villa learned that they needed to be patient and that making the brand will take time and possibly be up to five years because it’s a long process that you will have to go through. Grandioso’s first collection was called “Winter Collection” and it was pretty successful because Kucera and Villa were able to profit out of it and it made it easier for both of them to start planning on another collection since they already had an idea of what their customers liked and wished to have. “Jorge and I would open a Google sheet and start making ideas for our future collection and it would take us a couple of hours to have the design we both agreed to have,” Kucera said. It was a great way for Villa and Kucera to discuss different ideas because that way it would help them visualize what their designs would look like. Villa said that he struggled when he was starting his business because he had to manage the different aspects of beginning a new business, making it is not easy he said. He had help from his best friend Kucera which made it easier for them to plan ideas since he said they just built off each others ideas. Everyone starts at the bottom and slowly reach their goals but be patient when it comes to making the clothing business because it’s something that requires hard effort. “Fashion has become a big industry nowadays because everyone just
FASHION Image shows how Fashion can be as pretty as a flower on a blue sky. Image courtesy of Sickwallpapersblog likes to keep up with new clothes generation because the people want to look fresh.” Kucera said. “Making sure they make new clothes that no one has seen is important to the business and for people who like to have clothes that are new to everyone because customers won’t buy stuff that is dead when it comes to fashion” Villa said. A successful clothing brand is just not the business that gets a lot of money but really a clothing brand should be all about spreading a positive message to the people and let them know they’re important and to follow their dreams. For example all clothing that is made should have a meaning to the owner and also to the world because once that message is spread its going to make the business grow more. Make sure to all the details in mind when thinking about logos, brand name and collections. It is better to have ideas because it can help you out
when you think into further details for your brand. Social media is the best way to get something recognized because everyone in the world has access to it and they could spread that positive message around. “Social media is our number one source that Grandioso has because the other day I got sent a picture of these young gentlemen wearing Grandioso hoodies in the Dominican Republic which made me really proud that Jorge and I were able to spread our message across the world” said Kucera. Grandioso was able to partnership with some local stores here in Austin and they hope to one day be able to have a partnership with another brand. Just keep in mind that success doesn’t come overnight, that it takes a lot of effort and dedication towards making a clothing brand successful. Page 08 Page 01
Mood. Do you know when and where is the appropriate time to wear an exaggerated eye look and when is the appropriate time to wear a natural eye look? I found out that most people do know when is appropriate to wear each makeup look, but some people still do not know the different places to wear each makeup look. Here are some tips to follow to help you figure out if you are wearing a makeup look in the right place.
1.
If you are going to H-E-B or any supermarket store where most people go in athletic clothes and pajamas try to wear a light nature eye look. It won’t bring you attention.
On Friday night when you feel crazy and go out to a party go more for an exaggerated look, something colorful with glitter. The flashing lights will attract attention to your glittery eyes.
3.
2.
When you go to a music festival for ex. ACL or SXSW wearing an exaggerated makeup look is the move. Everyone will be wearing exaggerated eye looks, you will fit right in.
At a fancy diner where you have to look presentable wearing an exaggerated smoky eye will be perfect. You will look classy and elegant.
5.
Page 09
4.
When you are going to a beautiful park during mid august and are planning to take pictures, wear a natural makeup look. If you wear a natural makeup look the nature part of the picture will stand out. It will also be easier to fix if it melts.
6.
At eight in the morning, nobody will be having an exaggerated eye look. For breakfast at IHOP or Cracker Barrel it’s probably best to wear a natural eye look.
7.
To work and school a natural makeup look will be best. You will not have an exaggerated full face of makeup to deal with all day. You will also feel more
8. 9.
On a day when you know you are going to do a lot of errands you should have a natural light look. You will be prepared for every wear you go. You will also look good and fit in.
Going canoing and wearing an exaggerated eye look is probably not a good idea. Going with a natural look is so much better. You will not have to worry about your exaggerated eye look to get ruined. You will also fit in with a natural eye look.
10.
A concert is the perfect place to wear an accurate eye look. You will be able to stand out to your favorite artist, but you won’t feel left out because other people will be wearing similar exaggerated eye looks. Page 10

The ending to every makeover is a makeup do. By. Elizabeth Cabrera Makeup is a form of art, people are able to express themselves with it. Natural makeup can say so much about a person, it can be said that you play it save and are simple. A dramatic look can say you go above and beyond and are creative. Even though everyone has a different opinion on makeup, most people wear makeup.
It can make the outfit shine and make a person look put together.
Makeup is very important in the fashion world. It was invented during the 1920’s and has become more popular and important throughout the world. Most people use makeup to express themselves creatively and to put together a unique look. A good makeup do could complete a look.
“Makeup

The steps to a makeover are doing a person’s makeup, hair, picking out clothes, shoes, accessories and putting them on. “You have to think of the whole entire package.” Those are the main strings in the fashion world and are equally balanced.
is an important topic especially when it comes to fashion
because it is so much of a thing that when you are completing the outfit you are putting the finishing touches, I mean I don’t like doing my makeup but even I have to
do it because it’s needed,” Tiffany said, the manager of JCPenney at Southpark Meadows. Some people use makeup on everyday bases and it can either be because they like using makeup and like being creative with it, or because they are insecure about themselves. “ I’m insecure about myself,” said Aaliyah Martinez, “there something I don’t like about myself and makeup can cover that and it makes me feel confident.” Or you can “have fun with it” Tracy said, Ulta Beauty employee. Even though makeup is just some paint you through on your face it has more meaning to some people. There are makeup artist that get paid millions of dollars for posting

That is their job and it’s also their passion. They get millions of views because makeup is a thing everyone is wanting to learn. “Nobody is putting the red lip and the blush on the cheek anymore, they are more into color,” Tracy said, Ulta Beauty employee. Makeup is evolving with the help of celebrities. A lot of celebrities promote makeup. “You just gotta think about it, how many celebrities have brands as far as makeup is concerned? Any time that celebrities are touching into those fields and into those markets you have to know that it is impacting the world as a whole,” Tiffany said. Celebrities promoting makeup makes a lot of people want to use it, for that reason it has become more popular.
It has become so popular that you can find makeup almost anywhere even HEB, which is a grocery store. JCPenney also seals makeup, they have Sephora which is a makeup store on the floor. “Having makeup in the stores definitely helps our customers. When they are trying to dress for that special day or if they are shopping for the weekend makeup is included, because you think of the whole entire package and that’s something that really helps,” Tiffany said. Having makeup products in stores does help the business revenue. Why wouldn’t it? Having makeup in a clothing store is convenient. Knowing that Sephora is inside of JCPenny gets the idea through of how makeup and clothes relate. Also of how equal they are in the
world of fashion. “They are both fashionable,” Martinez said. Both clothes and Makeup can be styled. “It’s part of your whole look,” Tracy said. Adding makeup to an outfit can change the vibe of the look all together. Clothes and makeup can also balance each other out. An elegant dress with a lot of glitter and rhinestones can be pair up with a natural makeup look. The dress and makeup will balance each other out and it will still look good. The shine dress balances the natural makeup look. It can also work the other way around, a blank shirt can be pair it with exaggerated makeup that will balance up the outfit. Everyone has a different style and preference on what they wear Page 12

Sometimes there is going to be haters. “People probably get judged on what makeup products they use because the other person wouldn’t wear it so I feel that the other person is not open minded to wear it so they kind of laugh or you know, they think it’s weird but they are not open enough to try it themselves.” Tracy said. “Have fun with your makeup. If you wanna wear green lipstick, wear it if you want to wear it, and don’t be scared to. People are gonna
stare at you, people stare at me because I’m wearing blue glitter liner but they could be good stares, they could stare at me because they like it so don’t say ‘oh I’m not gonna wear it because people keep staring at me I’m scared’ sometimes it’s a good stare.” “Touching into the makeup world is something that is a very luxurious business. A lot of people are getting into it. It is something I don’t think is going away if anything they are opening their minds to the new and modern
things” Tiffany said. There are a lot of new makeup products, a lot of choices to pick from. Makeup has become very popular and common that people make new makeup products. Now there is liquid color glitter eyeliner and color mascara. Makeup is a big part of the fashion world by itself and as a whole with all the other strings. Make up fits perfectly in the world of fashion. People are able to style it and be creative with it just like any of the other strings. With makeup an outfit could change style. Page 14

Thou Art of Costume The importance of costumes and how they are brought to life By Juandiego Godoy
confined in a small room with little A/C and one small table, the costume designers at the Georgetown Palace Theater work among others. Their job is to bring the characters portrayed by the actors to life even in the warm damp air circulating around the designers as they knit, sow, draw and write. Luckily for those in the small box, the entire costume collection (and microwave) are at their fingertips Costume design is a very important aspect to the visual arts. Costumes in theater are vital because of their ability to impact the story visually by reinforcing who the characters are. Are they evil or good? Are they soldiers or are they Page 17
commoners? Costumes also reinforce the setting. What goes in a play about the sea? Fish, octopuses, maybe boats but definitely not salamanders. How they’re made takes creativity as in all forms of art. Costumes elsewhere can be used as a way to express beliefs which gives costumes an important status.
study from somebody who’s been in the field for a lot longer than I have,” Markley said. Irma Gaitana makes special costumes called regalias for church groups of the Catholic faith as well as educating kids everything there is to know about the tradition. These regalias closely resemble Aztec warrior wear.
Marissa Markley has been a costume designer for the Palace “The Native Americans had Theater in Georgetown for two years now. their faith every year around December. “Mary, the mother of Jesus, she said yes and so we are dancing to her for saying yes,” Gaitana explained. “To the archangel who came and told her that she was going to get pregnant.” Gaitana knows of many groups of people who dedicate their free time practicing this dance. These dancers who choose to dance and dress like

“Well it’s my name that remains so I can not make ugly costumes either.” where they say ‘I danced to the music because she saved my baby.’ They pray hard. These are
very devout religious prayers,” Gaitana said. Theater, like church, is collaborative. It requires everyone to work together to make a production, according to Markley. “My favorite part about theatre is how it’s like a village,” said Markley. “It’s not one person who is in charge, it takes everybody to put on a production.” Markley also gave the example that there is no play without lighting, and lighting needs the set. Every role is equally important, but what defines the costume Page 18

I buy the fabrics and I go to the workshop and in the workshop they make a proposal. Then we make a costume. Only one. For example, if it is a group of 20 girls, we make only one and take it to the academy so that the directors can see it, so the dancers can try it on. Once it is tested then we do all the others.”
“ One day in a new town or you’re in a dystopian kind of society and

plan how it’s gonna be: colors, fabrics, etc. Then they just make it. The directors, in theater have a vision, and it’s up to the staff to accomplish their vision of how everything will be like, look like, and feel like. But sometimes the directors visions in some areas aren’t going to be agreed with by the people in charge of those areas.
The next year in England Regency period “
Educating the church goers about the Matlachine tradition is a goal Gaitana will pursue throughout the coming years. She feels that the world is uneducated in the Matlachine tradition in regards to its rich history and importance to the Catholic faith. A costume designer needs to
“It’s a bit difficult because it’s finally my job, so let’s say if my wardrobe is ugly. Well it’s my name that remains, so I can not make ugly costumes either. That I consider ugly. no? Then what I try is mediating,” Rolando said.
She also described the occasional conflict with the directors and their vision of what the costumes should be like, “They trust me if I tell them, ‘you know it does not match.’ They tell me, ‘well how do you think it should be?’ and I help them.” Ballet clothes usually consist of a tutu with a top. Tutus are made out of a special fabric called tulle. With tulle you can make any type of tutu you want from

any number of layers. Having multiple layers gives the tutu a better look. The consequence to having multiple layers is that it’s hard to manage. “That is difficult to handle because each dress takes four meters [of tulle] to make a layer. Each dress has 3 layers, so there are 12 meters of tulle used to make all layers. It’s a lot! They wear a lot of tulle. 12 meters of tulle for each costume and if there are 20 costumes then I have many meters of tulle in the workshop and my car is full and the workshop is full of fabric,” said Rolando. Markley had to deal with actors in baths full of water and having to make a costume that is resistant to water paired with slip resistant shoes. She also had to deal with fake blood on fabric that would portray an abortion and 6 year old kids panicking during quick changes during a production. Costume design has its many
challenges, but it also has its many ups that outweigh the negative things of costume design. “I did not like many of the costumes’ quality. So I decided that I could try to do better. I started making clothes but it was not for functions, ” said Rolando. Rolando started by making the designs and stitching the costume together herself. “More beautiful than what they sold here, and even better price,” she said about her costumes.“ So I went making them each time more elaborate until now that I do schools of dance that have 80 dancers or 60 dancers and are very elaborate.”
“It’s like reading a book, you’re one day in a new town or you’re in a dystopian kind of society and the next year, in England Regency period. So it’s kind of fun to have that kind of escape from their normal day to day life,” explained Markley. Markley will finish designing for a musical called Evita at the Georgetown theater. When she feels ready, she will most likely follow her dreams to become a costume designer for movies. Costume designers allow others to express themselves through their costumes. They put in the effort so that the wearer feels that the costume reflects what the wearer wanted to express. If the wearer wants to show how much of a Marvel fan they are, the costume made would have to express that.
She went on to make a growing company. She is making money off of something that used to just be a necessity for herself. The Costume design will remain an positive thing about costume important part of film, theater, design for Marissa Markley is dance and much more. how everyday is different. Page 20

A THRIFTERS GUIDE AN EVOLUTION of FASHION BY- AMELIA CANTU
T
hrifting is usually thought up as old clothes your grandma wore, and an unwanted pair of jeans and while you are not wrong, thrifting also contributes to a big part of the developing fashion world in many ways, and to those that want to stay on top of the latest styles without squandering their bank accounts, thrift is a good bet! Thrifting originally started in the late 19th century, but didn’t start to pick up fame until the 1950’s when the want of affordable vintage and couture clothing items were at a high. After this the thrill of thrift stores started to die down until Macklemore’s song “Thrift Shop” dropped in 2013 and the thrifting craze started all over again. Today with millenniums being more aware of where they are Page 23
spending their money, companies like Treasure City Thrift, and Assistance League of Austin that donate to charities are more elevated. Now with thrift shops being more progressive than ever people are at question on how thrifting fits in with fashion today. Lexi Robinson, an ambassador for Jadelynn Brooke and T.C. Elli’s located in Lubbock,Texas, is one of many who believe that nowadays thrifting is a key component to the advancement of fashion. She explains how and why thrifting is important to not only her style but others as well. “Yes, I think thrifting is great!” Robinson said excitingly.
“It allows you to find items that
you might not usually see that fit your style or broaden your taste!” “Thrifting is also a great way to get amazing and less costly products!” Plus, since these stores carry a wide variety of different clothingmixing and matching clothes while being unique is effortless
“Individuality is
very important in fashion.”
thrifting allows you to do this!”
Personality is among many other things thrifting can bring to individuals styles. Ruby Bruner, an ongoing thrifter, goes to places like Goodwill, Tod Drawer, etc., “Different trends can come agreed how thrifting can help and go but an individual’s oneself show and express their personality is what keeps people style in different ways than just relating to specific brands.” Said trends, but talks on how the low Lexi when asked how thrifting prices of thrifting have been able impacts fashion. “I have learned to change her style. that there is so much more to it than getting ready quick in the morning. Fashion is a chance to express yourself creatively every day. It should be about your opinion and not be decided based on trends and I think that
“One reason thrifting is
creating an evolution is because of the low prices thrift stores bring to the table.”
Said Bruner. “ The idea of Goodwill and other thrift stores used to be where ‘junk clothes’ were but now the idea is that you can basically make and change

offering people a chance to find things that are no longer available and/ or unique with saving a lot of money at the same time.”

These clothes to fit your style in a non expensive way.” commented Bruner. “For me just by thrifting I’ve been able to widen and experiment with my style in all sorts of ways without having to spend more than $20 a trip.” Fortunately clothes aren’t the only thing that you can thrift. This includes furniture, shoes, and even in a few stores, 80’s-90’s music. These items today can be very keen to modern consumers. “Again this is another reason thrifting is getting so big, it’s the concept of being able to buy vintage things and then being able to recycle and reuse these items.” comments Bruner. Page 25

Thrift stores also offer an ecofriendly alternative. For most people clothing start to

not fit and in many cases they end up throwing away these clothing items rather than donating. This is a very harmful and wasteful process that happens with a lot of big companies once their clothing items fall out of trends. With thrifting though, being a more popular option, people are donating more clothes rather than throwing them away. Most thrift stores even recycle old or too damaged clothes that they can’t sell. This is again a more appealing look to millenniums and them being economically conscious.
Birlem agreed with the thought of how thrifting can be a more Ecofriendly choice.
“Clothing and textiles is one of the top ten most polluting industries on the planet.” Exclaims Birlem. “Thrifting and resale reroutes a
lot of clothing and textile from going into the landfill, we alone in addition to what we buy to stores that we own donate over 100,000 pounds to charity so it’s very important ecologically” From this Birlem explains how nothing in the clothing industry is automatically better for the environment, but thrift shops are helping with being able to donate and lessen the amount of waste that normal clothing companies bring. Thrifting is now a proven fact that it helps people make the earth more Eco-friendly, stylish and unique without spending too much money, and helps people’s morals with donating for the greater good! What is Desire?
What is a desire? A feeling of comfort and security. Something that we all want.
Rememberable or Forgetful?
A recent question on Quora asked its readers “What is the difference between trendy and fashionable?” Quora readers answered with “a trend is something short-lived, while fashion is something more long-lasting. While they both go along with each other a trend wouldn’t be happening without some sort of fashion influence, and a fashion piece wouldn’t be happening without some kind of feedback from the trends around that time period.” In the year 2019 people seem to not know if there is even a difference between these two words. When people go to a

fashion store they either look for what is the new “hot” product on the market, or what could make them feel comfortable. We as people want to have a feeling of comfort and security which can simply come from the type of clothes you wear on a daily basis.
New or Old?
“I helped myself become successful,’’ said Cindy Jackson. Jackson has been a retail saleswoman working in the fashion store Citi Trends for over the past 20 years, and currently works there with a happy smile. She said that she is aware of what is trendy and tries to find out what kinds of outfits she can pull off. When asked if she could define what “trendy” means and represents, Jackson said it’s something that is “hot” at the
moment. Like all things that come and go, trends are not an exception. Jackson said “as an elderly women I want to stay young in soul”. Age could make someone feel young or old, comfortable or uncomfortable, and strong or weak. Josh Leyva is a 14-year-old teenager. Leyva brought a sense of new acquired knowledge in regards of what he believes fashion and trends really are. Leyva can agree that trends are what is “hot” at the moment but, Leyva said that “a fashion trend is [how] people are dressing right now [in 2019].”
What to Wear?
“I sometimes wear what I want to wear and sometimes I don’t
care,’’ Leyva said. When it comes to going to your closet, you might not know what to wear or what fits you best. On a day- to day- basis people don’t want to be bothered nor stressed over about what they are going to wear. However, there are some people who might want to dress and go all out every day. According to theodysseyonline.com there are five key components to dressing up every day. The five key components are as follows: dressing up everyday takes enormous effort, dressing up every day takes time, dressing up every day costs money, dressing up every day brings a lot of attention, and finally dressing up every day is fun! Not all things are
meant to be second-rate.
Money or No Money?
Its Sunday night and its award season. Watching the red carpet to see what your favorite artist are going to “bring to the table.” Millions of people check to watch a red carpet and people get invested on what these celebrities wear to these events. People can either be very uplifting or supportive of what people chose to wear or they can be harsh or critique of what they brought to the show. So, do celebrities have to waste a lot of money on clothes, accessories, fashion items, etc..?
dresses or cool clothes that are really cheap and beautiful.” However Jackson believes that celebrities do need money and popularity to stay “trendy” and relevant.
For the Future?
While the future is yet to come, millions of people have already imagined what it could possibly look like. Over these past years people can agree that a lot of things have come and gone, we have seen many people get ideas from outside of their “bubble”, we have seen people try and standout from the regular. What could be next?!
Leyva disagrees that celebrities have to spend a lot of money. He says “no”, there is some cool

Designers and stylists have already been plotting for what could be next. Leyva came up with the idea of trying different things with jeans. He also suggested that some great places people could get ideas from could be stores or even outlets.
designers want to get ideas from different kinds of perspectives. Stylist and designers try their best to be inclusive whether that be from everyday people to celebrities icons. What could a saleswoman and a teenager possibly expect?
