In the event of a natural disaster, there is a plan. The same training and preparations should apply to a nuclear holocaust. With nuclear testing in North Korea; the possibility for a nuclear disaster is high. So when the end is nigh, make sure your home is stockpiled with these things. Purification tablets will not be of much aid if you’ve been bombed by nukes sent by the Russians. Have at least a hundred bottles of water in your bunker or home just to be safe. The water will last for a long time if you ration it. Buy in bulk because water is fundamental to human life, radiation poisoning isn’t.

The Mysterious Montauk Project

Picture found on noliesradio. com

Written by Dirk Yaple

Some people believe that the Montauk Project served as an extension of Project Rainbow, an experiment that supposedly rendered a U.S. NAVY destroyer, the USS Eldridge, invisible to both radar and the naked eye. Rumors exist of a number of experiments done at Hero Base on Montauk, Long Island, including a psychological war weapon used to drive an enemy insane.

The Background It began with Project Rainbow in 1943. Nikola Tesla became the director of the project. The original objective of the project consisted of making a ship invisible to radar, but it also had some unusual side effects. The first test, in 1936, worked perfectly, not only making the ship invisible to radar but also to the human eye; however, no people inhabited the ship during the test. Dr. John Von Neumann also worked on the project, becoming the new director when Tesla left in 1943. Von Neumann’s superiors ordered him to alter the project to make the ship only

invisible to radar even though he had asked for more time to perfect it. The test continued as planned, but with a disastrous result. The ship had completely disappeared, replaced by a strange green fog, witnesses say, and reappeared a couple minutes later, with one of the masts broken and most of the crew injured and/or driven

insane. Several members of the crew had fused between bulkheads or disappeared completely. The NAVY designated the crew as mentally unstable and relieved of duty.

The Montauk Project The Montauk Project began when the surviving researchers from Project Rainbow gathered together sometime in the 1950s to discuss what had happened to the USS Eldridge. Some time later, they prepared a report to congress, but Congress rejected it for its dangerousness. Unfazed, they sent the report to the department of defense instead, this time with a more accepting result. The report detailed a weapon used to give an enemy schizophrenia at the touch of a button. They chose Hero Base, a decommissioned air Base on Montauk, Long Island as the testing location for the project. They would’ve originally chosen Brookhaven National Laboratory as the testing location, but

doing so would require the installation of a large radar dish, which would attract attention. Hero Base proved better in this aspect, qualifying as large, remote, and with easy access to water. The government supposedly abducted homeless people and orphans for experimental use. They exposed the test subjects to intense electromagnetic radiation as part of a test of psychological abilities and mind control; not many survived the experience. Eventually, scientists advanced people’s psychic abilities to the point where the test subjects had the

The government donated the area as a national park in 1969 and recently closed the area due to ‘environmental contamination’. The Base remained in operation until the 1980s, though rumors say that the facility had expanded to over 12 levels which could still be in use to this very day. information obtained from crystalinks.com

A Matter of Life &

Death

Written by Mikayla Colletti Cover Art by Conor F. Shine

Zombies reign supreme on the list of classic movies, but they have yet to stop wowing the masses. The reanimated continues to prevail as a hot topic for media and cult obsession. With the Walking Dead, Resident Evil, and DayZ making up just a small fraction of the mainstream zombie media, it’s easy to see how the public can go crazy over the living dead. Human beings are obsessed with the the apocalypse and the undead. The idea of grotesque and deformed people, the blood of their friends and neighbors dripping down their rotten face, causes one to identify zombies as gruesome or gross. Although zombies might come off as nasty, fans can’t help but think differently. Allison Earnhart is an astronomy and Sci Tech teacher at the Liberal Arts and Science Academy. Earnhart has loved zombies since she her teenage years. “The zombie thing. I

have always been into sci-fi, even since elementary school; I love monster movies of all kind. That’s never changed.” Now Earnhart runs the Zombie Apocalypse Survival Team at LASA. But the idea for the club formed in her head long before she started teaching. She would spend her lunch period during college coming up with survival scenarios. “At first it was just silly conversation, and then it got more and more serious over time with more of us talking about, know what we would actually do here on campus if something happened.” The planning didn’t stop there. “It turned into this huge thing where our whole group of friends had a written down plan, with people having different roles and meetup locations around campus and it became a big thing,” Earnhart says.

AMC’s The Walking Dead has easily become a hot topic for teachers and students alike at LASA . Amanda Walker, a freshman biology teacher, knows a thing or two about the show. Even before the Walking Dead premiered, Walker couldn’t wait to see it. Walker believes her love for the show comes from the themes that present themselves in it. “I think it’s not just about zombies, I think it’s post apocalyptic and I think people love - whether it’s a nuclear war or a zombie apocalypse, or a virus wiping everybody out - apocalyptic

stories.” Walker makes a strong point. She believes that the idea of a zombie apocalypse is popular because of the escape from everyday life it provides. Walker also believes the fascination comes from people wanting a bigger place in society; they want to be regarded as something special. “You’ll suddenly be tested on a really different level and there would be something very special about being a survivor, and what can you contribute to the new community that forms. That’s what people like to fantasize about. About being special, and surviving it, and contributing in meaningful ways to the communities.” The apocalypse is a serious topic, yet people continue to romanticize the end. Through costumes, media, and social events, the undead trend is staying alive. One event that keeps up with the masses goes by the name of Run For Your Lives.

This 5K zombie infested obstacle course originated in Maryland. Run For Your Lives, which has been hosted in 24 states around America, various locations in Canada, and even in Austin, immediately gained popularity. Run For Your Lives has become an event both male and females enjoy. While the race contains rolling in the mud covered in the blood of the living, the gender ratio of participants stays even. “The survival numbers are pretty evenly spread between the two genders, which goes to show that you don’t always have to be the fastest or strongest on the course, rather the most agile and smartest to outrun and out maneuver our zombies.” Lauren Gambler, Run For Your Lives customer service manager says.

8-16 Points

You might as well already be dead. You are the iconic first slaughter in a horror film. Prepare for a short journey because you will die before dawn. Whether a zombie bite is your kryptonite or you die of dysentery, your fate is predetermined. You muck up vital moments with your loud mouth and your sloppy feet. You should give up before you cause harm to your friends and family. Better take yourself out of the game now.

17-24 Points Mediocre at best, you have a moderate chance of survival. You’ll probably make it on your own for a few weeks, but the walking dead will take you down eventually. You might prevent a bite if you find a survival expert and stick with them till the end. Otherwise, you won’t make it on your own. You have some needed talent, first aid skills or military training, but that’s nothing to flaunt. Your team might only keep you alive for your savvy skills.

25-30 Points Shooting zombies and healing wounds, you are the best of both worlds. A lone renegade, you slaughter flesh eaters with one hand. Blindfolded. Idolized by everyone and their moms, you walk around knocking zombies down left and right. Keep your talents fine tuned and you’ll be in spiffy shape.

Bavaria Hysteria! Written by Derian Golden The Bavarian Illuminati existed as a secret society in the 1700s their views would turn up to radically change the views of the world and are one of the most widely known secret societies to ever exist. We will go through a short history of these illuminati from the very roots of the society to modern heights and respects of the old order ranging from everyday talks to getting held responsible for the landings on the moon.

From Humble Beginnings... The illuminati were founded by a man named Adam Weishupt, on May 1, 1776 as a bridge between the spiritual and political secret societies. As opposed to most other secret societies in the world the illuminati were not primarily composed of rich aristocrats they had sought to recruit people of various different cultures and upbringings.

The Ranks Swell The ranks of the Bavarian Illuminati swell throughout the 18th century and came to include many powerful people in the world. The recruits ranged from famous scientists of the day to the lowly farmers of society all the way to wealthy elites, giving the group much more respect among both the nations commoners and the nobility.

No More Illuminati? On March 6, 1785, King Karl Theodore of Bavaria passes the secular edict banning all secret societies in Bavaria. This ban caused great turmoil in the illuminati, who ultimately coupled with power struggle sends them into a downward spiral letting the Illuminati collapse forcing founder, Adam Weishupt to flee from Bavaria in distress.

This image is Adam Weishupt founder of the Bavarian Illuminati This image falls under public domain

The Beginning Ends The founder of the order, Weishupt, came into life on February 6th, 1748, known among his peers as “Brother Spartacus, died at the home of a friend in 1811. Before his death, he left a lasting mark on not just secret societies in general but the entire world as a whole in various ways and forms both small and large.

The Rebels of France France was left in a dire state after the rule of King Louis XV. After a mass famine and terribly useless crusading, the people finally decided that they had enough and rebelled against the system and issued into their government some of the first traces of Illuminati ideals into Government, The rest of Europe would soon follow

...To Spectacular Prowess The order of the Bavarian Illuminati may no longer exist in it’s own rights, the beliefs of the Illuminati order show great presence all throughout Europe. In fact the world in general follows the set of beliefs the Illuminati attempted to give to the world do to colonization bringing along ideals and ways of life from Europe to the world.

What Really Went Down

on 9/11

Written by Dirk Yaple

On September eleventh, 2001, members of Al Qaeda flew airplanes into the twin towers, causing almost three thousand Americans to lose their lives. This event remains known as one of the most tragic events in American history. This event, however, has had suspicion cast upon it within 6 hours and continues to this very day, with speculation in many areas of the event.

What happened: Terrorists supposedly hijacked American Airlines and United Airlines Flights 11 and 175, the two planes that hit the twin towers, as well as American Airlines Flight 77, which flew into the pentagon, and United Airlines Flight 93, which had crashed into a field in Pennsylvania after a passenger revolt, its intended target the U.S. Capitol Building. At 8:46 A.M., Flight 11 crashed into the north tower of the World Trade Center, impacting the 92nd to the 98th floors. The plane caught the building on fire with the jet fuel it had in its fuel tank. Despite

the fact that the building had suffered the impact damage of a plane first and that it suffered heavy fire damage, the north tower came down last, beginning its fall at 10:08 A.M.. WTC building 7 had collapsed as well at 5:25 PM, despite not struck by any debris or a plane. At 9:03 A.M., Flight 175 flew into the south tower of the World Trade Center, impacting the 78th to the 84th floors. Many people in the north tower chose to remain at their workstations and await rescue, not thinking either of the towers would fall. The south tower began to collapse at about 10 o’clock, before the north

tower. At 9:37 A.M., Flight 77 flew into the west side of the Pentagon, killing 125 people. Normally, the death count would’ve superseded the number of casualties that day, but this particular section of the Pentagon had undergone renovations at the time, meaning that fewer people inhabited that area. At 10:06 A.M., Flight 93 crashed somewhere in Pennsylvania as a result of a passenger revolt. The official story maintains that the plane went down during a struggle during the cockpit. However, the evidence doesn’t support this.

MAY/JUNE 2013

According to conspiracy theorists, the facts surrounding these attacks have several weak points which suggest that something more went on behind the scenes.

The facts: A lot of evidence exists about the attacks and their perpetration that contradict the official story. The most obvious thing, conspiracy theorists say, to notice proves as the way that the towers fell. “The towers are blowing up, not falling under gravity” says John Wyndam, a known 9/11 conspiracy theorist “this way the government hastily destroyed all the physical evidence they

Urban Cognition

23

could.” One would suspect that the towers, when struck from a certain side would fall towards that side. Instead, the towers collapsed in on themselves, falling straight down, in the fashion of a controlled demolition. World Trade Center building 7 looks to have fallen exactly in this manner, having not experienced any impact damage from planes or debris. Another noticeable flaw in this supposed attack shows that the air force,

despite having plenty of time to respond to the threat, made almost no attempt to take action. No planes flew in the air except for a C-130 fighter from Andrews Air Force Base that followed Flight 77 shortly before it slammed into the pentagon. Two F-15s also flew at least ten minutes away from Manhattan and had plenty of time to respond, but did not receive word of the attacks until Flight 175 had crashed into the south tower. All nearby

air bases had fighters on standby, and none made any attempt to the U.S. Air Force has protocols in place to automatically intercept any planes who they have lost communication with in case of such an event. Finally, the story of Flight 93 crashing into a field in Pennsylvania after a passenger revolt has a major flaw. Debris appears more than five miles from the crash site. A more likely scenario shows that the passengers found out about the plot and the government, in an attempt to cover it up, shot the plane down with a missile. Also, curiously enough, a significantly fewer number of people inhabited the World Trade Center during the attacks. The reason remains unknown.

World Trade Center Building seven, the building that fell despite taking no damage.

24

Urban Cognition

MAY/JUNE 2013

The culprits: The nature of these attacks and the fact that the perpetrators had the ability to bypass government precautions and security leads people to the assumption that the perpetrator had access to the high levels of the government and the ability to prevent the air force from taking action. Many conspiracy theorists agree that this perpetrator is in fact the U.S. Government itself. Two main theory genres exist: Either the government had foreknowledge of the attacks and did nothing or they in fact staged the attacks themselves. “Our government” says Wyndam, “would permit the killing of almost 3000 innocent citizens and URBAN others for geopolitical purposes.” A

the fluoride fiasco

Written by Gabriel Trevino

The fight against fluoride has been raging across the country for years on end. Chemicals are being put into cities’ tap water, many times without people even knowing about it. Is it really ethical to have this going on without the consent of the people it affects? The truth will be revealed about why people choose to fight the governement on this issue, what exactly is being put into public water supplies, and how it can be harmful to the public’s health.

Urban Cognition

MAY/JUNE 2013

Why

are they doing this? The supposed purpose of the government putting fluoride in public water is to “protect” citizens from cavities and tooth decay. The irrational part about this is that tooth decay is not a waterbourne disease, so why add the fluoride to water.

The World Health Organization performed a study in 2012 showing that fluoride does not in fact prevent tooth decay! Wasn’t that why the government added it in the first place..?

Medically unethical?

Non-profit organizations say that the injection of fluoride into our water is highly unethical. The government does not make the people who ingest it sign any consent form. Also, since people consume different amounts of water daily, the dose is uncontrollable to individuals. Why put an unnecessary nutrient into our water, when it can harm so many people?

What fluoride can do to the human body: - Cause a very painful bone disease known as skeletal fluorosis. - Cause a discoloration of teeth called dental fluorosis.

-

Exposure to fluoride has also been linked to... Arthritis Bone Fragility Glucose Intolerance Gastrointestinal Disease Thyroid Disease These are all very harmful to the well being of people around the world.

Three Ways to Defend Against Fluoridated Water: 1. Use water filters. Filters remove, on average, 90 percent of the fluoride in your tap water. 2. Buy bottled spring water. Most brands of spring water have dramatically less fluoride levels than tap water. 3. Get a water distillation unit. These handy devices remove most, if not all, of the fluoride in your water. In various ways anonymous keeps somehow stumbles back into the news again, such as recently with the Spamhaus attack, and represent a

They take down websites belonging to the American, Syrian, and Israeli governments, along with having the ability to accomplish various difficult tasks, such as with The Zetas. The group mainly hacks through Distributed Denial of Services (DDoS) attacks. These attacks are accomplished by a hacker or a group of hackers using botnets (compromised machines) to overload a website, shutting it down, and not allowing legitimate traffic to flow through. This type of attack is generally

used to take down websites, such as those belonging to groups anonymous disagrees with, and sometimes websites on something called the “deep web.” The “deep web” is an area of the internet that search engines such as Google will not comb through and present on their results pages. When they find these kinds of sites they will generally work to force them off the net, and in October of 2011, Anonymous found such a site by the name of Lolita City. They then quickly posted the names of 1589 users of the site and launched a DDoS attack to take them off the internet. This has, however, caused conflict between Anonymous and

governmental agencies such as the FBI, promising jail time of up to 10 years for anyone found guilty of orchestrating DDoS attack. One such example takes place in December 2012, when Englishman Christopher “Nerdo” Weatherhead, 22, got arrested when organizing an attack on Paypal. He was tried and convicted to 18 months of prison for a count of “conspiracy to impair the operation of computers”. Many other members of Anonymous have also gotten arrested, including arrests in early April of this year.

The Jordanian government recently arrested a group of teenage “hacktivists” when they found the group assisting “OpIsrael”, the name given to Anonymous’ plan to take down governmental sites of Israel. This tearing down of governmental institutions on the internet helped convince Anonymous to adopt the practice of wearing Guy Fawkes masks. Guy Fawkes was an English born man who fought for Spain in the low countries (Belgium and the Netherlands) and has long been immortalized in “Remember, remember!”, a famous English nursery rhyme sung on Guy Fawkes Day. This nursery rhyme tells of Guy Fawkes and his companions’ attempt to blow up King James and Parliament due to how hard they made the lives of the nations’ Catholics. In this plot, the group rigged several barrels of gunpowder under the house of Parliament. The poem immortalizes how the gunpowder plot almost proved successful with the barrels being found only the night

before the meeting of parliament and how Guy Fawkes and his compatriots got the punishments they deserved. Anonymous uses this man as their logo because of his rebellious spirit, and how he worked against common belief to get what he wanted from the government. Recently Anonymous has gotten large amounts of press light in the attacks on the whitelist, blacklist server Spamhaus. Primarily due to an article from a website known as “SoftPedia” which proclaimed Anonymous to be the cause of the attacks on Spamhaus. This was later found to be untrue with several news sites attributing the cause of the attack to a Russian hacking syndicate. On April 26, 2013 the supposed orchestrator of the attacks, Sven Kamphuis, the head of a dutch ISP by the name of Cyberbunker, was arrested by Spanish authorities just outside Barcelona. Kamphuis was arrested for his orchestration on the attacks on SpamHaus earlier in the year, an attack

which sustained itself at 300 MBPS, 3 times the recorded peak for a DDoS attack. While this was a very high DDoS attack, the level of attack remains far out of reach of “breaking the internet” as several news articles claimed. The attack was blown far out of proportion by several online media sites and only had a risk of temporarily disabling SpamHaus or CloudFlare, a service to protect against DDoS attacks. Anonymous has had a strange light in the media from being viewed as cyber vigilantes to being terrible menaces of society. Every person must, however, decide for themselves on what they think of Anonymous. They must decide whether they are real cyber vigilantes doing whatever they can for the good of internet users everywhere, or they or over hyped people just whining about things that don’t actually affect the majority.A

world wide!

That’s right. There are nearly four million masons around the world.

The Declaration of Independence has

been a major part of our country’s history. Almost everyone in the United States knows about it, but what many do not know is that of the 56 signers, eight of them were Masons. Also, nine Masons were involved at the Constituitional Convention.

Devil Worshippers? There are many opinions on whether or not this one is true, but I can tell you that a large amount of people truly believe that the Masons worship Satan. The extent of these conspiracies very, and it’s up to you to decide what is the truth and what is blasphemy

What makes you shiver when you hear the word “Freemason”? Well probably it is one of the countless conspiracy theories that is associated with them. Some more foreboding then others, here a few of them... - The Freemasons are trying to form a New World Order. - Masons have major ties with the Illuminati. - The American, French, and Russian revolution were all set in motion by Freemasons. - The sinking of the Titanic was planned and carried out by the masons. - Freemasons were behind the assassinations of Abraham Lincoln, JFK, Princess Diana, and even John Lennon.
