Who We Are
Philosophy
Community
It’s Learning by Doing. Lasell is committed to the idea of hands-on, project-based learning through internships, service learning and challenging projects in and out of the classroom. Athletic Training students volunteer for the Bay State Games, Communications students write media releases for local nonprofits, Fashion students curate exhibits at local museums. Builds a resume nicely.
We Give Back. Other people say it, but we really do it. Fifty-nine percent of the student body participated in some sort of service learning last year. Student clubs and athletic events also drew students into service programs; they tallied 1,701 hours of service at one-time events. In the Newton Public Schools alone, Lasell students provided 6,854 hours of service. That’s HUGE!
Lasell College
International
History
Stock a library in rural Mexico, explore eco-tourism in Brazil, learn the latest fashion trends in Paris. From International Service Learning programs in Mexico, Nicaragua and Ecuador to the latest educational programs in Brazil and Africa, students have a wide variety of choices for travel abroad. Fashion students travel to Paris; others have toured London, Spain and Papua New Guinea. More than 90 choices. Cool.
Want traditions? We’ve got ‘em. Founded in 1851, Lasell College has a long history of blending practical experience with classroom work. Today we call it Connected Learning. The Winslow Archives, established in the late 1970s, is where you’ll find tons about Lasell’s history. That history includes the Torchlight Parade—a 100+ year tradition, River Day races and Lasell’s grand Victorian houses. 5
