Site A is located in the north side of Union Square Park. This rectangular site is in the middle of the block with just one exposed façade, the south façade. The program is a Scholar’s Library that will be open 24 hours. The high demand of energy of a 24 hour program requires an efficient energy strategy. This site has 2 main challenges to maintain its functioning as much efficient possible. One; is to minimize the direct sunlight to get into the building throw the south façade and two; take advantage of skylight as a desirable daylight penetration in the spaces, considering the program is a library and ambient light is highly recommended. It is important for this matter the use of materials, apertures in the right proportions, program orientation and floor plan density are important base where the control systems layer will be supporting.

This project required the finding of a space which could be improve by the use of light. The choosen space is located in the second floor of SCE of The New School, Parsons. This space allows two displays areas, one for the entrance and the other for the hall.

DIGITAL REPRESENTATION triptic and views
Furniture, space and light The exploration of 3D modeling as a continuation of design was motivation in this class. The process of modeling started with the selection of existing furniture designs. These selections were arrange as a composition into a 25’ x 40’ x 20’ volume. The evolution of furniture modeling a spacial composition allowed an interior space to emerge. To get a realistic imagery from this project was important to assign materials, finishes and colors to the furniture pieces but also to the volume. My approach to this project was to have a play between the furniture composition with daylight (model daylight) to create interesting reflections and shadows.
The first triptych is a play between the light and the individual pieces of furniture. The use of close-ups helped to create interest in the different textures, and the use of light is the catalyst to overlap these textures.

HSA Harlem School of Arts
By using massing orientation is possible to manipulate different qualities of light at the same time of the day. This can help to read each one of the school departments as differnt identities inside of the art umbrella. At the same time this elements would be unify by patterns.

Connector Harlem School of Arts is located at Nicholas Ave between 145th and 141st streets. With an important history of community place for arts development HSA need to be an open and welcoming place. However, this building was constructued in the mid 70’s and it was though as an oasis from the turbulent context of that moment. The change in the context of HSA promote the repositioning of the school in the community, creating opportunities to rethink their infrastructure. The proposal is to incorporate a connector into the existing scheme to promote the exaltation of each disciplines within the building. This move allowed to open the entrance to the building creating an exterior plaza from where is possible to see this connection. Nevertherless, this connector is though as a dinamic element that changes during the day and night depending of the sun movements and activities happening in the building.

BRINKLEY’S STATION Axon Design Inc. (Freelance work)
Furniture, space and light Brinkley’s Station is located at 153 E 60th Street. The use of wood and warm textures was mixed with warm color temperature lighting design. The use of two different color temperatures 2700 K and 3000 K gave the space a dinamic feeling.
