A few weeks ago, LinkedIn reminded me that I have been a professional photographer for 35 years. I started my company Photographer Lars Clason in 1980. Time flies when you’re having fun. And it becomes obvious that a ”few” years have passed when you look at this Polaroid of me, taken at a light test some time in the 1980s.

My love for photography probably began with my father and his job. He was in advertising and when I was a kid he often worked on weekends. So me and my sister would tag along. At the ad agency where he worked, they were often busy creating pictures for their clients. For me it was a magical experience to see these images being ”conjured up” with the help of different kinds of cameras and film types, props, backgrounds and lighting techniques.

When I started out, most of the world was still analogue. So was the world of photography. I shot my pictures on film. And the ”rule” that all photographers abided by, was that the whole image had to be sharp – every little detail. The short depth of field came later, in the 1990s, when parts of the image was ”allowed” to be out of focus. Looking back at the evolution – or revolution – in photography over these four decades, I would say that most things are better today. Sure, we created some very nice pictures back then too. But the overall quality has improved over the years, much thanks to the seismic shift to digital cameras and computer editing, which for me began in the mid 1990s. The general awareness of what makes a good picture has also increased; the expectations from my clients are much higher today. I have always been fortunate to have a great variety of clients and assignments. Ever since I started, I have worked with many reputable brands, photographing people, food, jewelry, cars, air filters … and much more. And I have always alternated between creating pictures in my own studio and out on location. In this 5th consecutive Annual Report, I have included some retrospective images from earlier years as well as some new ones. I would like to thank all the clients who have made my photographic journey possible so far. And I am very much looking forward to taking on new assignments and challenges. See you on the other side of the camera. Best regards Lasse Clason
