FINDING BALANCE s you can imagine, our No. 1 topic of discussion around The Ivan Sher Group right now is the state of the real estate market. As interest rates rise and people feel the challenges of a volatile stock market, I’m always asked for my predictions. There’s no doubt we’re seeing a shift—the first in two years. We’ve seen unprecedented rises in the market in the last couple of years; in fact, the prices in the Las Vegas area reached yet another all-time high in April. Homebuyers and prospective sellers are wondering if we’re now at a tipping point. The housing market crash that began in 2007 is still fresh in some people’s memory. But what we’re experiencing now isn’t a catastrophe, it’s an adjustment. If we look at the current climate with a measured eye, what we see is a situation far different from 15 years ago. The Federal Reserve pushed mortgage rates below 3% during the pandemic, but since Freddie Mac began keeping records in 1971, the 30-year FRM has averaged 7.78%. We’re still well below that mark. Every economic model is built on supply and demand, and despite any challenges, in Las Vegas we still have limited supply, which will keep prices from major drops. Fewer people are tied to their cities for work these days. The so-called “untethered class” is flocking to Las Vegas, and we’re benefiting in a lot of ways. Our economy is diversifying and now has a sense of cohesiveness that comes with a city that has settled into its neighborhoods. While we here at The Ivan Sher Group plan to enjoy our summer, we’re not slowing down. We’re gearing up to unveil something exciting in the months to come. Enjoy your summer. We can’t wait to show you how we’re spending ours.

UNIVERSAL APPEAL For many of us, there can never be enough encounters with chef Nobu Matsuhisa’s superlative black cod marinated and roasted in sweet miso and his now-iconic yellowtail sashimi with jalapeño in yuzu soy. Happily, Nobu understands this, and his third Las Vegas location, Nobu at Paris Las Vegas, opens as the resort evolves as a dining destination. Hot on the heels of her interior range of paints launched last year, Kelly Wearstler is now taking it outside with an exterior collection of paints for Farrow & Ball (farrow-ball.com). The California Collection expands her West Coast-inspired range to the outdoors with perfect paints for front doors and balconies in weatherproof exterior eggshell and exterior masonry finishes. “The California Collection inherently lends itself to exterior environments with its versatility and sun-soaked palette,” says Wearstler. “When working with natural materials outdoors, I like to incorporate earthy and rustic tones, such as Sand or Salt,” she says. “Darker colors are a nice way to make a dramatic but elevated imprint on the exterior of a house. Completely outfitting a home in Tar can really take the property to impactful new levels.” BY PHEBE WAHL

Panerai’s Luminor Goldtech Calendario Perpetuo

BY STEPHEN WATSON

THE FORESEEABLE FUTURE

By channeling its compelling history, Panerai expands its legacy with the Luminor Goldtech Calendario Perpetuo and a memorable Florentine experience.

By adapting cues taken from its early tool watches and diving instruments, Panerai has evolved the spirit of its early designs into a beloved collection of modern timepieces. Designed to brave Earth’s harshest conditions, modern Panerai watches retain the same uncompromising functionality as their forebears, complete with striking case designs, legible dials and characteristic protective crown guards, making every Panerai timepiece instantly recognizable. Yet, the latest Calendario Perpetuo’s introduction brings about some surprising and extravagant new developments to Panerai’s lineup. Built in a limited run of only 28 pieces, the Luminor Goldtech Calendario Perpetuo is a high complication that took Panerai more than five years to develop. With a perpetual calendar, the watch’s date doesn’t need to be manually reset with the passing months; the correct day will automatically shift into place, no adjustments needed. It sounds like a small detail but becomes exceptionally complicated in practice, especially when you factor in leap years and months with fewer than 31 days, which keep the Calendario’s date accurate to year 2399. Legibility is a hallmark of any Panerai dial, and the Calendario Perpetuo is no exception. Deceptively simple at first glance, the watch’s functions are cleverly split between the front and back of the watch, revealed through layers of semitransparent sapphire crystal, subtly showcasing the various discs making up the watch’s multiple calendar functions.

bar, or about 50 meters, perfect for dressy underwater endeavors. The 28 lucky Paneristi who purchase the watch will also receive a luxurious “Xperience,” a private Florentine adventure hosted by Panerai in October 2022. Clients will visit the Panerai flagship in the heart of Florence, where they will discover hidden secrets that are deeply valued by the manufacture. Activities will include wine tastings, traveling the Tuscan hills in vintage cars

A transparent dial reveals the complexity of Panerai’s Luminor Goldtech Calendario Perpetuo.

the work of Panerai’s Laboratorio di Idee based in Neuchatel, the Luminor Goldtech Calendario Perpetuo utilizes a proprietary polished gold alloy for its case construction; the material includes copper and platinum for remarkable color and strength. Paired with a specially created alligator strap with a shaded patina, natural dyes used in the tanning process ensure no two straps are alike. Inside the 44 mm polished Goldtech case, the perpetual calendar is powered by the in-house automatic mechanical movement (Panerai P.4100) first introduced in two models last year. The movement can store up to 72 hours or three days of energy in reserve when fully wound, courtesy of a 22K gold microrotor decorated with diamondcut angles providing just enough Italian sprezzatura. The Luminor features a water resistance of 5

LEGIBILITY IS A HALLMARK OF ANY PANERAI DIAL, AND THE CALENDARIO PERPETUO IS NO EXCEPTION. Through its layers, the Perpetuo Calendario provides plenty of practical information beautifully: hours, minutes, a small seconds subdial with day-night indication at nine, a second-time zone, and a day-date indicator at three on the dial. On the back of the watch, you’ll find the month display and leap year indicator, the year displayed in four digits and a power reserve, all visible through the sapphire case back. NATURAL BEAUTY Jungle, mountains and ocean unite at One&Only Mandarina, a secluded luxury sanctuary on Mexico’s Riviera Nayarit.

ome people say the most precious commodity in the world is time. But for me, connection—to nature, to loved ones, to yourself—tops the list. I’m lucky to live in a busy city surrounded by people and lots to do, but so much sensory overload can oftentimes lead to feeling overwhelmed and disconnected. Fortunately, there’s a recently opened retreat on Mexico’s Riviera Nayarit that’s the perfect place to recharge and reconnect. Located about an hour and a half from Puerto Vallarta, One&Only Mandarina is a sanctuary straddling three microclimates, with more than 50 species of ancient trees, exotic wildlife and accommodations built to enhance the environment— not reshape it. Speaking of, the treehouse suite my friend and I arrive in is an absolute stunner. Made from wood, clay, precious metal and stone, and equipped with floor-to-ceiling glass windows and walls that frame the surrounding nature, the expansive retreat is the type of place you can enter and never leave, especially with the roomy deck and plunge

pool, outdoor shower and huge bathtub. There are 105 free-standing treehouses and villas on property designed in a warm, organic modern style; all are private and serene. But, alas, staying in the room for days on end is not on the agenda. There’s an endless stream of things to do, like dining at Alma, one of the resort’s restaurants helmed by executive chef Olivier Deboise, an all-day hub perfect for families, friends and couples alike. There’s also Carao, the fine dining restaurant from chef Enrique Olvera, known for Mexico City’s Pujol, NYC’s Alta and Damian in L.A. We dine mostly at Alma due to the expansive menu and the stunning view overlooking the main pool and ocean. At night, there’s often live music playing, further enhancing the experience.

Clockwise from top left : The Treetop bar near the resort’s main restaurant Alma serves cocktails, natural wines and more, all with sweeping ocean views; located on the resort’s private beach, Jetty Beach Club is one of two beach clubs on the Mandarina development available to guests; fresh seafood and refreshing bites, like the coconut ceviche seen here, are on the menu at Jetty Beach Club; Alma’s fresh fish for two.

27

We also enjoy meals at Jetty Beach Club (freshly grilled seafood and quick bites) and Canalan Beach Club (Italian food on a 1-mile stretch of sandy beach), and have one special meal at Carao, where we marvel at the contemporary Mexican fare like the aged whole fish Zarandeadostyle, and the horse mackerel ceviche with soybean germ and cucumber. There are pools and beaches to while the day away, but for complete serenity, One&Only Spa is the place to be. Available to all guests—regardless of whether or not they booked a service—the spa is nestled in a volcanic rock garden and shaded by lush rainforest. Stepping inside feels like crossing into another realm—the calm and peaceful energy stays with you. Beyond the expected, there’s a mud bath and a traditional temazcal, or sweat lodge. Services incorporate indigenous traditions and organic products, and this is the first spa to introduce natural skincare brand Tata Harper’s Sensorial Reset—an immersive wellness experience that goes beyond typical spa services. I experience the exclusive Nature Sanctuary treatment, a 120-minute bliss fest that includes a foot

massage, a tuning fork ritual, face mapping therapy, a deeply relaxing face massage, a head massage and more. When that ends, I slowly sip tea and nibble on snacks in the relaxation room while soaking in views of lush leaves and the sounds of birds and insects. For those seeking more action, there’s plenty to do, from a guided mindful hike to the 500-year-old La Abuela tree to a jungle course to ocean adventures. Children can enjoy the Swiss Family Robinson-style KidsOnly, a 42,000-square-foot playground designed by Brigitte Broch, the art director and production designer behind Moulin Rouge. For me, the most unexpected jolt of joy comes from visiting the Mandarina Polo & Equestrian Club, where my friend and I are lucky enough to ride horses to the beach. As someone who last rode a horse at age 10, I was nervous at first, but after a few minutes of bonding with my equine companion, I felt nothing but sheer bliss, laughing and smiling until my face hurt. It was connection in its purest form—exactly what I needed. oneandonlyresorts.com/mandarina

DISPATCH DR I V E

DRIVE

The Bentayga’s signature elliptical front headlamps look like jewels cut from crystals. A chrome insert within the lamps allows them to sparkle even when they’re not illuminated. The rear taillamps are equally captivating, featuring a deep 3D glow seen only on a Bentley.

The ultraluxe five-passenger SUV from Bentley (bentleymotors.com), the Bentayga, has been recharged like never before thanks to a new, more sustainable plug-in hybrid powertrain. With roughly 31 miles of pure electric range, the Bentayga Hybrid can travel an impressive 536 miles in total when combining its fully charged battery with a full 19.8 gallons of gasoline. Bentley has found that about 50% of Bentayga owners regularly undertake journeys of less than 30 miles, making it highly probable that many customers will rarely visit a gas station when they regularly recharge their Bentayga after every trip.

PLUG AND PLAY Buyers can configure their Bentayga to transport four or five passengers. In the four-passenger guise, the Bentayga’s rear seats benefit from a 30 mm increase in knee room in the upright seated position and nearly 100 mm in the reclined position. There’s even a center console between the two rear seats to store Champagne flutes, should the need arise.

Recharging the Bentayga is as simple as plugg ing a cord into the charging port located on the lefthand side of the vehicle. The Bentayga’s battery can be recharged at a rate of 7.2 kW and an LED light will indicate when the Bentayga has reached a full charge. Using a special 240-volt vehicle charger will fully recharge the battery in about two and a half hours, while a standard 120-volt outlet can do the job in around seven hours.

Bentley’s luxurious Bentayga goes green with a plug-in hybrid option. BY NATE CHAPNICK

Bentley’s Hybrid Efficiency Navigation database uses predictive data to help drivers improve their driving behavior for maximum efficiency. This system works in conjunction with the Bentley Hybrid Efficiency Accelerator Pedal, which provides haptic feedback to the driver via the pedal to help them improve the Bentayga’s efficiency. Using data from the navigation system including speed limit changes or an approaching junction, the pedal will vibrate or push back, advising the driver to lift off the throttle, thereby maximizing the vehicle’s energy regeneration capabilities.

It just wouldn’t be a Bentley without the sparkling knurled organ-style vent controls that are as exquisite to see as they are to touch.

Download the My Bentley app, and you can check on your Bentayga’s state of charge, remotely initiate a charge and access vehicle statistics from your most recent trips. Plus, never get into a sweltering hot or freezing cold vehicle again thanks to this app, which allows remote heating or cooling of the cabin right from your phone.

There is little to distinguish the Bentayga Hybrid from its thirstier siblings. The only obvious clues that you’ll fi nd are the small “hybrid” badges on the lower front doors.

A 3.0-liter turbocharged gasoline V-6 engine combines with an electric motor and battery rated at 17.3 kWh. Combined, the two powertrains make 443 horsepower and 516 foot-pounds of torque, good for a zero-to-60 mph sprint in just 5.2 seconds.

As the first newly built spa on the Las Vegas Strip in over a decade, the facilities are among the most impressive in the city. Yes, the locker rooms feature traditional wet areas, but it’s the coed Fountain of Youth that is truly unique. Here you’ll find the country’s first Aufguss performance sauna, where sauna meisters use aromatherapy and dancing towels to move heat by choreographing their movements to music and lights. The multisensory Art of Aufguss experience is followed by a walk through a rain tunnel before guests are encouraged to progress through a series of cold and thermal pools. From there, you are invited to relax in a salt and crystal laconium, lay on tepidarium chairs or enjoy a bento box in the lounge before your treatment.

As for the bodywork and facial programing, this has been carefully curated by renowned spa director Jennifer Lynn, whose stewardship has led to innumerable five-star awards and accolades. For massage, there are Himalayan salt stone, reiki and chakra healing sessions, but our pick is the Tokyo Escape. Based on Lynn’s travels throughout this bustling Asian metropolis, this service seeks to promote rest and restorative sleep through long, firm strokes while enveloping the body in a warm, dry wrap. And should you find that the arid desert has left your complexion feeling a bit depleted, Awana offers hydrafacials with medically proven benefits. Other bespoke services such as face yoga, dermaplaning and gua sha are hands down some of the most distinctive offerings on the Strip. Awana seamlessly suits those interested in a personal spa journey, a private couples retreat or a social experience. The spa is intimate enough that it never feels crowded, and couples can enjoy duet services in their own suites. Alternatively, groups can arrange for private VIP locker rooms, book their own Aufguss performance and enjoy the spa’s coed social spaces. No matter what the occasion, at Awana, nirvana awaits.
