Matt Nantais enters his fifth year at the helm of the Louisiana Tech bowling team after leading the Lady Techsters to the four most successful seasons in program history. Nantais led the Techsters to new heights in 2019-20, coaching a team without a senior to Louisiana Tech's first appearence in a USBC Sectional. Tech ranked no. 11 in the NTCA Coaches Poll throughout the season and notched a 64@MattNantais 34 record despite competing against the toughest schedule in Nantais' tenure. The Lady Techsters won the JSU Sonic Boom Invitational for the third year in a row and finished in the top-ten in every tournament they competed in. Tech also set a school record with 10 consecutive wins at the Northeast Invitational and 3 straight matches over 1,000 at the Music City Classic. In 2018-19, Louisiana Tech ranked in the Top 25 throughout the season, going 64-41 and winning two tournaments: the JSU Sonic Boom Invitational and Allstate Sugar Bowl. The Lady Techsters also earned acknowledgement from the NTCA for their work in the classroom with five student-athletes earning NTCA All-Academic Honors. On the lanes, Nantais coached Kaitlyn Eder to a spot on the Southland Conference first team and NTCA All-America honors. The sophomore led Tech in strikes (323), strike percentage (46.9%), spare conversion percentage (73.5%) and average per frame (20.01). Eder and Ashley Channell also earned Southland Conference All-Academic honors. In 2017-18, the Lady Techsters had an unparalleled year, notching 55 victories, and earning national rankings in the NTCA poll for the first time in school history. Nantais paced Tech to a program-best six top-10 finishes, including a tournament championship at the Jackson State Sonic Boom Invitational. Nantais saw impressive play from up and down his lineup in his second season, bolstered by the play of freshman Kaitlyn Eder. The rookie was named the National Rookie of the Year and an All-America Honorable Mention from the NTCA. She also earned a spot on Junior Team USA after a solid finish at the United States Bowling Congress Team USA Trials. The Lady Techsters defeated the no. 1 team in the nation and Nebraska, and throughout the course of the season, earned at least one triumph over every top-10 team in the nation. Tech finished the year ranked 20th among 80 D1 programs. In his first year in 2016-17, Tech made significant progress, earning a top-10 victory over Maryland Eastern Shore. The team also saw success outside the lanes, as Shelby Smith and Sarah McComic both earned all-academic recognition from the NTCA. Nantais was announced as the new head coach for the Louisiana Tech Bowling program on September 21, 2016. Nantais joined the program after spending the previous five seasons at Valparaiso. Nantais led Valparaiso over 300 victories in his five years at Valparaiso. That total includes a program-record 84 wins in his first season (2011-12), a season where the Crusaders ascended as high as #1 in the NTCA coaches poll and advanced to the 2012 NCAA Women's Bowling Championship, where the team finished in the final six. Nantais guided the Crusaders to 60 victories in 2012-13 and 59 wins in 2013-14, while last season saw the Crusaders earn 50 wins. Each of the last two seasons, Nantais has lined up a schedule for Valpo which ranks among the nation's toughest - slates which featured opponents among the top-ten in the nation for nearly half the team's matches. The Crusaders ended the 2014-15 campaign ranked 16th nationally, continuing the program's streak of being ranked in every single NTCA coaches poll since the program's inception. Under Nantais, the Valparaiso bowling program became a member of the Southland Bowling League during the 201415 campaign, a newly formed league of eight of the nation's top programs. The Crusaders finished in third place at the inaugural Southland Bowling League Championship in March of 2015. Over his four seasons, Nantais has seen nine bowlers earn All-Tournament Team honors, including Natalie Cortese at the NCAA Championship in 2012. He also coached Cortese as she earned NTCA Honorable Mention All-American status following her senior season, while Torrie Decker became the second bowler in program history to be named an Honorable Mention All-American for her work during the 2014-15 campaign. Nantais' bowlers have enjoyed success in the classroom as well over his three years at the helm. Cortese was an NTCA All-Academic Third Team selection in 2012, while the Crusaders have had 16 bowlers earn All-Academic recognition from the NTCA over the last three years. In addition, Valpo earned team academic recognition from the NTCA for the first time in 2014. Nantais came to Valparaiso after spending a season as an assistant coach for the women's squad at Robert Morris [Ill.] University. While there, Nantais helped guide the Lady Eagles as they reached the top spot in the nation in the United States Bowling Congress (USBC) Intercollegiate Team national poll. Robert Morris went on to close the season with a fifth-place finish at the National USBC Team Championships, as well as a third-place showing at the NAIA Team Championships. Prior to joining the Robert Morris coaching staff, Nantais spent the 2009-2010 season as assistant coach for the Lake Central H.S. girl's team, which placed fifth in the state. During his year at Lake Central, he helped tutor current Crusader Kaity Galka. Nantais also previously spent two seasons (2006-2008) as head coach of the boy's team at North Newton H.S., and has served as a coach in the Stardust III (Dyer, Ind.) Junior Program since 1987. He received his USBC Bronze Certification in June of 2008 and followed up by earning his Silver Certification in October of 2008.

DR. LES

GUICE

UNIVERSITY PRESIDENT

@LKGuice Louisiana Tech University and President Les Guice share a rich history together that spans five decades and has produced family ties deeply rooted in a passion for the Bulldogs and Lady Techsters. From an architecture student stepping on the campus for the first time in 1972 to an appointment as Louisiana Tech’s 14th President in 2013, Dr. Guice has shown an unwavering commitment to leadership and service to his alma mater. Most recently, Guice’s leadership in promoting a spirit of teamwork has helped the campus community and the City of Ruston work together to overcome the enormous challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic that came on the heels of the tornado that plowed through the campus and community in April 2019. Yet unparalleled educational experiences and unparalleled campus growth have continued. The Integrated Engineering and Science Building opened last fall. The new baseball, softball, and soccer facilities are being built. Work is ongoing for new green space, intramural fields, and student housing along Tech Drive south of the railroad tracks. Add to that additional parking lots, green space and beautification at the site of the recently demolished Harper and Harris Halls, and plans to build a much-needed Tech Pointe II. One of Dr. Guice’s first achievements at Tech was earning a bachelor of arts in architecture in 1976. Discovering a passion for engineering under the mentorship of Professor Jack Painter, Dr. Guice went on to earn a master’s degree in civil engineering from Tech in 1978. While working on his master’s degree at Louisiana Tech, Dr. Guice also discovered a passion for teaching and education as a profession. Dr. Guice accepted a position as an assistant professor of civil engineering at Louisiana Tech in 1978 and was promoted to associate professor in 1981. A few short years after earning his PhD in civil engineering from Texas A&M University in 1986, Dr. Guice was named the interim department head of civil engineering in Louisiana Tech’s College of Engineering in 1988 and earned the permanent department head position and full professorship in 1989. As department head, Dr. Guice initiated the formation of the Civil Engineering Advisory Board and the Civil Engineering Distinguished Alumni recognition program, both of which significantly enhanced alumni participation and significantly enhanced fundraising for the department. Throughout the next decade, Dr. Guice would continue to distinguish himself as an academician, researcher, administrator, and leader. His dedication to his students, his faculty, and the University would lead to his appointment as Dean of Louisiana Tech’s College of Engineering and Science (COES) in 1999. As Dean, Dr. Guice continued to encourage and support innovations in the curricula. The College’s faculty became increasingly successful in securing external funding for the integrated curriculum which resulted in a transformative redesign of programs throughout the College. Dr. Guice’s leadership and vision also reinvigorated the Engineering and Science Foundation to more effectively serve the needs of the College. He initiated a new integrated strategic plan, known as “COES 2010,” and capital campaign, “Tech’s BEST,” which led to major advancement of the college and to funding for an Eminent Scholar Chair, 15 Professorships, $500k Scholarship Fund, and several new laboratories and facilities. Dr. Guice’s leadership also helped to guide the Institute for Micromanufacturing (IfM) toward a focus on the emerging field of nanotechnology. With the hiring of key nanotechnology faculty in numerous disciplines, further expansion of research laboratories, establishment of an interdisciplinary engineering PhD program with a nanotechnology track, and initiation of a BS in Nanosystems Engineering, the IfM and COES established strong research and education nanotechnology programs that have received national recognition. In 2004, Dr. Guice’s performance and accomplishments as dean led to his appointment as Tech’s vice president for research and development. During his tenure as vice president and, beginning in 2012, as executive vice president, Tech has significantly increased patents, licenses/options, startup companies, SBIR grants with affiliated companies, and has established strong industry partnerships for commercialization of technologies. Dr. Guice also led the establishment of Tech’s first two technology incubators,

the Rawle and Humana Enterprise Centers. With a focus on the future and a progressive vision for economic development, Dr. Guice has led the planning and development of the Louisiana Tech Enterprise Campus – a research park connecting the university and downtown Ruston. Enterprise Campus’ first building, Tech Pointe, was completed in 2012 and is now home for several companies and organizations, including an Air Force-funded Cyberspace Research Laboratory. With the completion of Tech’s new College of Business building and renovation to University Hall as a home for interdisciplinary entrepreneurship and innovation activities, the first phase of Enterprise Campus was completed. Dr. Guice’s reputation for exemplary leadership and service is further evidenced by the many statewide and Conference-USA-wide organizations he has founded or chaired, and he’s been honored with numerous awards, both locally and statewide. Currently he serves as chair of the C-USA Board of Directors. As Tech’s president, Dr. Guice is the chief executive officer of north Louisiana’s only Carnegie Foundation national research university and one of only two public universities from Louisiana recognized in the top tier of national universities in the U.S. News and World Report. Dr. Guice leads a University that consistently receives high marks in affordability, in starting salaries for graduates, and in providing graduates with the best returns on investment. Throughout his career, Dr. Guice has contributed to and played a central role in creating the culture and vision for the future of Louisiana Tech; he continues that commitment as president. Dr. Guice’s focus on campuswide engagement, building and growing relationships, and leadership in forging a path toward advancement of the University’s academic and athletic programs, research and commercialization activities, and economic development efforts means that Louisiana Tech University’s best days are yet to come. Dr. Guice is a native of Monroe and grew up in Bastrop. He and his wife, Kathy, have three sons – Kyle, Chad, and Bret – and four grandchildren, Christopher, twins Everly and Elizabeth, and the youngest, Evie.

DR. ERIC A.

WOOD

DIRECTOR of ATHLETICS/VICE PRESIDENT

@EWOOD_AD Louisiana Tech President Les Guice introduced Dr. Eric A. Wood as a Vice President and the Director of Athletics during a press conference held in the Chris Richardson Suite of the Joe Aillet Stadium Press Box on Oct. 23, 2020. Wood, a former student-athlete at Sacred Heart University who is also 22-year veteran of collegiate athletic administration, comes to Ruston following a five-year stint at UCF, where he spent the past four years as the Deputy AD for Competitive Excellence. He becomes the first Director of Athletics in LA Tech history to also serve as a Vice President. “I’m proud to welcome Eric and his family to Louisiana Tech and Ruston,” said Dr. Guice. “His record of accomplishment shows Eric's qualifications, and interacting with him quickly convinces you he is something really special. He is a dynamic, charismatic individual who leads with intelligence and character. It's a rare combination, and we're very fortunate to have him on our team.” The Bronx, New York, native has served in a variety of roles within athletics administration for more than two decades. In addition to his time at UCF, Wood has held full-time positions at the University of Arkansas, the Atlantic Coast Conference, Wake Forest University and the University of New Haven. He also served as a graduate assistant at both the NCAA national office and Clemson University early in his career. “I want to thank Dr. Guice, Brooks Hull, Steve Davison, Mary Kay Hungate, Samuel Speed, and Dr. Donna Thomas for the opportunity to serve as the next Vice President and Director of Athletics, but more importantly for the opportunity to join the Louisiana Tech family,” said Dr. Wood. “After meeting the search committee, I could feel the genuine love they have for Louisiana Tech, and I just knew I wanted to serve alongside them.” At every level of his professional career, Wood has made an impact. His qualifications and accomplishments include: • Board of Trustee Member – Sacred Heart University • 2019 “Next Up” honoree presented by Adidas and College AD for senior level administrators • Athletics Representative on the UCF Presidents Advisory Staff Council • 2016 Top 40 Under 40 in the Arkansas Business Journal • 2009 graduate of the NCAA’s Leadership Institute • 11 years of executive staff level leadership • $55 million in successful management experience for sport programs, operations and support areas • $5 million in fundraising visits, proposals, and presentations for programing, operations and facilities • Head coach hires in football, men’s basketball, men’s and women’s tennis, and track and field • Sport administrator experience (football, men’s basketball, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s golf) • NCAA, NLI, Division I-A Athletics Director’s Association (Now Lead1), USTA committee service • 1997-98 NCAA football student-athlete Medal of Merit recipient as SA of the Year

is LA Tech’s gain. Eric Wood has had an enormous impact on our athletics program. Simply put, seemingly everything he touches turns to gold! I am grateful for Eric’s many contributions that have led to an unprecedented amount of competitive and academic success at UCF. “His interpersonal skills are second-to-none, and combined with his competitive drive, his work with our coaches and student-athletes allowed us to break a whole lot of records around here. I couldn’t be happier for Eric, Celia, and their beautiful family, and I look forward to following their continued success in this new adventure.” Wood also assisted with the hiring of UCF football coach Josh Heupel and men’s basketball coach Johnny Dawkins. The Knights football program has won 22 games over the past two seasons, including an undefeated regular season in 2018. The Knights men’s basketball program earned a trip to the 2019 NCAA Tournament, the program’s first since 2005. “Dr. Eric Wood is everything a school could want in an athletic director,” said Dawkins. “His greatest strength lies in his ability to connect with others. He is great with student athletes, administrators, and coaches. He will be greatly missed, but I can’t wait to see what he will accomplish at Louisiana Tech.” During his time in Fayetteville, Wood served as the Associate Athletics Director, Deputy Title IX Coordinator/Diversity Coordinator (2011-16) as well as the Assistant Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Development (200911). Wood was the Director of Student-Athlete Programs and Compliance at the ACC (2005-09) following a stint as the Assistant AD for Compliance at Wake Forest (2004-05). He began is full-time collegiate athletic administration career as the Assistant AD for Compliance and Student Development at the University of New Haven (2003-04). He completed his master’s degree in counseling and guidance services at Clemson University in May 2000 and his Doctorate of Education in Sports Management at the University of Arkansas in 2016. He is the first African-American Vice President in Louisiana Tech history as well as the first minority Director of Athletics in the University’s history. “I love the bold mission and vision of the University to be the top public research institution in the country,” said Wood. “My vision for athletics is the same – competitive excellence. We will compete in the classroom. We

During his tenure at UCF, Wood played a prominent role in the strategic planning process and day-to-day administration of the University’s 16-sport intercollegiate athletics program, assisting with key initiatives that impact overall competitive excellence in the classroom and on the respective playing fields as a member of his executive leadership team. He represented the department on the President’s Advisory Staff Council and served as sport administrator for the football and men’s basketball programs. Wood had administrative oversight of the Varsity Knights alumni letter-winners organization, UCF Convocation Corporation management and revenue generation, Knights Sports Performance, the sport administrators group, the sports science and sports nutrition departments, compliance, academics and all internal units impacting the competitive success of UCF’s 450 student-athletes. “President Guice and Louisiana Tech University made an absolute home run hire,” said UCF Director of Athletics Danny White. “UCF’s loss
