LAST SEASON IN REVIEW DOLL’S HEADER GIVES LA TECH SEASON-OPENING WIN (AUG. 23) Scoring chances were few and far between for both Louisiana Tech and Southeastern Louisiana in the 2019 season opener, but Elizabeth Doll struck early in the second half with a diving header to help give the Lady Techsters a 1-0 shutout win on Friday night inside Strawberry Stadium. The two teams combined for just three shot attempts in the first half. Yet, three minutes into the second period the upperclassmen combo of Jaelyn Peeples and Doll connected for what would be the game-winning goal.

MULTIPLE RECORDS BROKEN IN LOPSIDED WIN (AUG. 25) Amber Posthauer netted a single-game program record six goals, one shy of tying the NCAA record, as Louisiana Tech overpowered short-handed Alcorn State by a final score of 15-0 at Spinks-Casem Stadium. As if that was not enough, the junior midfielder was also credited with two assists, bringing her point total to 14 which is also a new single-game program record. She also set records for shots (19) and shots on goal (11). As for the single-game team records, here is the list of those that were set by the LA Tech program – 43 points, 15 goals, 10 first-half goals, 13 assists and 15-goal margin of victory.

LA TECH PICKS UP HISTORIC WIN IN IMPRESSIVE FASHION (AUG. 30) Friday night’s dominant 5-1 win by the Louisiana Tech soccer team over ULM at Brown Stadium was not just the fifth win of the season for the Lady Techsters, it was also the 150th victory in the program’s 16-year history. LA Tech scored two header goals off corner kicks in the first half. They then scored three goals in the span of 10 minutes in the second half, one coming off another set piece and the other two being a rebound goal and a 1v1 win against the opposing keeper.

LA TECH COMES FROM BEHIND, TWICE, TO WIN IN OT (SEPT. 6) The Louisiana Tech soccer team came into its seventh match this season having never trailed.

4 | 2020-21 LADY TECHSTER SOCCER RECORD BOOK

They trailed twice on Friday night in their home opener. And not only were the Lady Techsters able to equalize both times, the team ended up getting a golden goal by Connor Barker deep into the second overtime period to pull out a 3-2 thriller over McNeese State at Ruston Junior High School. McNeese State’s Havana Johnson scored on both goals for the Cowgirls to give them leads of 1-0 and 2-1. However, it was Autumn Woodard and Quinn Parks who netted the equalizers, followed by Barker’s game-winner in the 106th minute on a hot and humid night at LA Tech’s temporary home.

DONATION MADE TO HELP REBUILD COMPLEX (SEPT. 21) “We will come back better and stronger” was a phrase echoed throughout the Louisiana Tech campus in the immediate days and weeks following the April 25 tornado that damaged or destroyed many of the athletic facilities. Nearly five months later, the phrase still rings loud as LA Tech graduate Tim Cutt, ‘83-Peotroleum Engineering, and his wife Carolyn have donated $250,000 in honor of former Petroleum Engineering professor Dr. Robert Caruthers to assist in the rebuilding of the Lady Techster Soccer Complex.

WOODARD NETS TWO GOALS IN CONFERENCE WIN (SEPT. 27) Despite having not played for 16 days, the Louisiana Tech soccer team used the same recipe to generate yet another victory. On offense, it was goal-scoring Autumn Woodard who found the back of the net twice. And on defense, it was the back line who stood tall against a strong opposition. The combination of the two resulted in the Lady Techsters pulling off a 2-1 victory over Old Dominion on Friday afternoon at the ODU Soccer Complex. LA Tech pushed its unbeaten streak to 16 while registering three points in its first conference match of the season. They also ran their unbeaten streak versus ODU to six while improving their record to a perfect 4-0 in Norfolk versus the Monarchs.

LA TECH EARNS TEAM ACADEMIC AWARD (OCT. 3) For the 12th straight year, the Louisiana Tech soccer team received the Team Academic Award, an award handed out annually by the United Soccer Coaches for exemplary performance in the classroom. LA Tech, led by 13-year head coach Kevin Sherry, was one of 644 women’s collegiate soccer programs to earn the Team

Academic Award for the 2018-19 academic year. It is given to teams with a composite grade point average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale for all players on the roster.

points to bring its league total to 16 which is enough to qualify the team for the Conference USA Tournament for a sixth straight year.

ADAPTABLE LADY TECHSTERS TAKE DOWN OWLS IN OT (OCT. 4)

ZETTLER EARNS C-USA ALL-ACADEMIC HONORS (NOV. 4)

If there was an award for “Most Adaptable” women’s soccer team, Louisiana Tech would make a good case for winning it. Forced to play at another new home venue – James Field at Hoss Garrett Stadium on the campus of Ruston High School – the Lady Techsters overcame the adversity and took down the Florida Atlantic Owls by a final score of 1-0 in overtime on Friday afternoon. It was a tale of two halves as LA Tech had the better scoring opportunities in the first half, but defending C-USA champion FAU flipped the script and controlled much of possession for the second period. Regardless, the match was scoreless after regulation and went into overtime. And it was Autumn Woodard who came up big, netting the golden goal as the Lady Techsters ended the top-20 RPI Owls six-game winning streak.

LA TECH NETS TWO LATE GOALS TO DRAW WITH RICE (OCT. 13) Louisiana Tech was down six starters due to injury on Sunday against Rice. The Lady Techsters were also down 2-0 with 19 minutes left in regulation. There were other odds stacked against them too, like having never beaten the Owls in their previous six tries and they were coming off a hard-fought loss two days ago while Rice was on a bye and well rested. Needless to say, it was a herculean effort by LA Tech who managed to tie the game up with two late goals and ultimately came away with a 2-2 draw on James Field at Hoss Garrett Stadium. Rice was destined for the road win after scoring twice within a span of three minutes around the midway point of the second period. LA Tech got one back in the 72nd minute off a set piece that was punched in by Connor Barker and later got the equalizer on the 85th minute from Amber Posthauer on a crazy angle from the right flank.

WOODARD NETS GAME WINNER, LA TECH QUALIFIES (NOV. 1) It sounds like a broken record, but Autumn Woodard provided some more magic on the soccer pitch. The sophomore striker netted two goals on Friday afternoon, the last one being a golden goal in overtime, which handed Louisiana Tech a 2-1 victory over Southern Miss at the USM Soccer Complex. Her seventh game-winning goal of the season, another program record, was extra special as it gave LA Tech three

Louisiana Tech senior Kaylee Zettler was named to the 2019 Conference USA Women’s Soccer All-Academic Team, announced by the league office. Zettler was part of the 11-person second team, becoming the sixth Lady Techster in program history to earn C-USA AllAcademic honors. The defender from Meridian, Mississippi has a 3.83 cumulative grade point average while majoring in Biology. She was a C-USA Academic Medalist and C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll recipient the last academic year after transferring from William Carey.

THREE LADY TECHSTERS RECEIVE C-USA HONORS (NOV. 5) After helping the Louisiana Tech soccer team record 13 wins during the regular season and qualify for its sixth straight Conference USA Tournament, Autumn Woodard, Elizabeth Doll and Josie Studer earned Conference USA honors in a vote by the league head coaches. The sophomore Woodard was one of four forward to receive first team honors. She becomes the third Lady Techster in program history to be named First Team AllConference USA. Doll, a junior defender, was named to the third team for a second straight season. And fellow defender Studer was named to the All-Freshman Team, the sixth time in the last seven years LA Tech has had a player selected as a newcomer.

DOLL, WOODARD EARN ALL-SOUTH REGION HONORS (DEC. 2) Louisiana Tech’s Autumn Woodard and Elizabeth Doll were selected to the United Soccer Coaches All-South Region for Division I Women’s Soccer. Both earned third-team honors after helping LA Tech to a 13-4-3 overall record and a Conference USA Tournament appearance, the sixth straight for the program.

SHERRY, WOODARD RECEIVE TOP LSWA HONORS (DEC. 8) For the fourth time in the program’s 16-year history, Louisiana Tech women’s soccer claimed two top Louisiana Sports Writers Association honors as the LSWA announced on Sunday that sophomore forward Autumn Woodard was named Player of the Year and head coach Kevin Sherry was named Co-Coach of the Year. Senior midfielder Jaelyn Peeples joined Woodard on the 2019 All-Louisiana Women’s Soccer Collegiate First Team. Junior defender Elizabeth Doll also received honorable mention honors.

a ticket to the league tournament. There were plenty of other memorable moments in 2014 as well, including the team’s first ever appearance in the C-USA Tournament where they advanced to the semifinals for the first time in program history, upsetting the No. 3 seed UTEP on penalty kicks. Sherry was named the Louisiana Coach of the Year that season as well, leading the Lady Techsters to a 13-6-3 record. These firsts were a culmination of the hard work and determination which carried over from year one in C-USA, a season which produced a solid 9-10-1 record and four league victories despite having a roster of 18 freshmen. The underdog story was mostly the same in 2012 in what was the final year in the Western Athletic Conference with LA Tech being picked dead last in the preseason. The Lady Techsters responded with a 12-5-4 overall record, including an 11-game unbeaten streak and a 1-1 tie with No. 19-ranked Denver, to finish in fourth in the league while setting records by allowing only 15 goals and recording 12 shutouts along the way. For that year as well, Sherry was named Coach of the Year for the state of Louisiana. Of course the passion has not only been seen on the pitch, but in the classroom as well. Since the native of Grantham, England arrived in Ruston, LA Tech has consistently been recognized for its excellence in education as they were awarded the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/Adidas Team Academic Award for 12 consecutive school years. The award recognizes teams that have a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or better. Most recently, the team had 30 studentathletes that were recognized by being named to the C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll during the 2017-18 academic year, maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better. Of those student-athletes, 10 also received the C-USA Commissioner’s Academic Medal which is given to those who achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or better. Since joining C-USA, 33 Lady Techsters have earned a total of 57 Academic Medals. One of those players was Kathryn Sloan who was named the 2016 CoSIDA Academic AllAmerica of the Year for Division I Women’s Soccer, becoming the first ever student-athlete at Louisiana Tech to earn this honor. The third pillar -- respect -- has been acknowledged through their sportsmanship as the team has been awarded several times with the NSCAA Ethics/Sportsmanship Award. The award recognizes teams with less than five yellow cards throughout the season. The biggest impact of the program most often comes from the fourth pillar - Service. Community service has been demonstrated year-round in Sherry’s 10+ years as head coach. At the fifth annual Techspys, the soccer team took home the SAAC award (third time) for the team that best represents the commitment to promoting a positive image in the community. In 2010, Sherry’s Lady Techsters finished with a record of 15-6 overall, a school record for most wins in a single season, and a thirdplace finish in the WAC. That same year, LA Tech qualified for the WAC Tournament for the first time in the program’s young history with the event held at the Lady Techster Soccer Complex. In 2009, after winning their first 11 games, Sherry led Tech to a 12-7-1 record, including the program’s first-ever league win. Tech scored the most goals (54), assists (45) and points (153) ever in a single season. In 2008, the Techsters were recognized for their significant improvement from their 2007 campaign when they went 2-14-1. Sherry and Co. posted a 10-5-5 record, an eight game improvement that the NCAA recognized along with three other schools, as one of the most improved teams in the nation. Shortly after the conclusion of the 2008

SHERRY HEAD COACH Kevin Sherry enters his 14th season as the women’s soccer head coach at Louisiana Tech (20th overall in college coaching). After more than a decade at the helm, he continues to lead the program to new heights that can be directly linked to four pillars -- Service, Passion, Respect and Fearless. The past six years in the very strong league that is Conference USA, the Lady Techsters have predominately been picked preseason to finish in the bottom half of the league and outside of tournament qualification. And in each of those six years, the team has been fearless in proving all of the voters wrong as they have finished at or higher than they were picked in the preseason poll while also qualifying for the conference tournament each season (one of only three C-USA teams to do so). Sherry’s 19th year of coaching may have very well been his most challenging. Not only did the team have 19 newcomers, but they also were forced to play 13 road matches and six other “home” matches at two different facilities due to the tornado that destroyed the Lady Techster Soccer Complex on April 25. Nevertheless, the team still produced a 13-4-3 record, marking the fourth straight year with 13+ wins. LA Tech went unbeaten in the first 10 matches of the season while breaking a program record with seven straight road wins. The marquee victory of the year was beating C-USA regular season champion Florida Atlantic. As a result, Sherry earned LSWA Louisiana Coach of the Year honors for the fourth time in his career. Late-game heroics was the main theme for the 2018 season, playing seven overtime matches with four of them ending in victories and the other three ending in draws. The heroics lasted all the way to the C-USA Tournament, coming back from 2-0 down to defeat Old Dominion in OT and advance to the semifinals for the third time in program history, ultimately finishing with a 13-5-3 overall record and a 5-3-2 league mark. The Lady Techsters were dominant at home yet again, going 9-1 which included a program-record nine straight wins at home. One of the road victories was a special one for Sherry as he picked up career win No. 200 at Graceland which is where he began his coaching career in the United States. In 2017, the team registered a 14-3-5 overall record, the three total losses being the fewest in program history. Eight of those victories came on the road, tying a program record. They also won eight consecutive home games, tying another program record. The 14 wins tied for the second most in school history. The team ended up going 6-1-3 in C-USA play for a record total of 21 points earned and a fourth place finish in the league, advancing to the C-USA Tournament semifinals with a comefrom-behind win over Old Dominion. In 2016, LA Tech also won six conference games to finish fifth and qualify for the league tournament for a third straight year. The team ended the season with a 14-6-1 record, helping Sherry earn the Louisiana Coach of the Year award. One of those 14 wins was more special than the others for Sherry. That was the 2-1 road win over Nicholls State on Sept. 11 which marked career victory No. 100 at LA Tech. Another win that was extra special came the previous year in the 2015 regular season finale versus North Texas who had already clinched the conference title. The Lady Techsters ended up pulling off an upset for the ages with a shutout victory over the Mean Green to punch

season, Sherry was selected to serve as U.S. Youth Olympic Development coach. Sherry was given the responsibility of coaching the Louisiana U-16 team and was also selected to instruct a coaching clinic for all high school coaches in the state of Louisiana. In his 13 years at LA Tech, he has coached 12 players who were selected All-Conference, three of which also earned Louisiana Player of the Year honors. The most recent is Autumn Woodard who made an immediate impact as a transfer in 2019, breaking single-season program records for most points (39) and most goals (17). Sherry spent 2005 and 2006 as head coach at Western Illinois. He inherited a program that was 24-111-7 over its history, having never experienced a winning season. Between the two seasons, he compiled a 20-13-4 record, and the program was recognized as one of the NCAA’s most improved. He led Western Illinois to its first MidContinent Championship finals in 2006. Even though the Westerwinds lost the conference championship, they finished with an 11-7-1 record. Their 11 wins were the most victories in a season in school history. Sherry turned around another losing program as head women’s soccer coach at Graceland University. Prior to his arrival, the Yellowjackets never had a winning season in its history. That changed as well. He coached Graceland to records of 12-7-1 and 16-2-3 before he led the team to an 18-0-5 record in his final season. Their success equated to the school’s first undefeated season, the school’s first-ever Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) Championship, an appearance in the NAIA Final Four and its highest national ranking of seventh by the NSCAA. For Sherry’s efforts, he was named HAAC Coach of the Year, NSCAA Central Region NAIA Women’s Coach of the Year and Region V Coach of the Year. While being head coach at Graceland, Sherry also served as head coach of the Des Moines Menace U-15 Boys Super Y League and worked with the Iowa Olympic Development program. Sherry has international coaching experience as well as he was the head men’s soccer coach at Nagoya Gakuin University and the Aichi F.C. Nagoya junior youth head coach in Japan prior to his four-year stint at Graceland. He also worked as the director of soccer coaching and player youth development for the Al Nahda national schools organization in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates from 1992-93. Most recently, he served as the lead assistant coach for the Guyana Women’s National Team “The Lady Jaguars” as part of the 2018 CONCACAF Women’s Championship qualification. Sherry got his first-ever head coaching job at Burlington Danes High School in London in 1987. During his five years at the institution, the school won the West London Area Cup at every age level and also won the prestigious London Championship two straight years. One of his former players, Danny Dichio, formerly played for the MLS club Toronto FC from 2007-09. Sherry also headed the West London Schools F.A. select teams from 1989-92. He served as the head coach for the U-16 select team from 1991-92 and the U-15 select team from 198990. As a student-athlete, Sherry played for the West London Institute of Higher Education and won the British National College Championship in 1987. He was selected to play for the FISEC Great Britain U-18 team and went on to play for Bangor City in the United Kingdom and Morning Star in Hong Kong. Sherry earned degrees in physical education/sports science and sociology from Bangor University in Wales, along with his master’s from Leicester University in England. He possesses the United States Soccer Federation’s “A” license and the U.E.F.A. “International” coaching license from England.

DR. LES

GUICE

UNIVERSITY PRESIDENT

@LKGuice Louisiana Tech University and President Les Guice share a rich history together that spans five decades and has produced family ties deeply rooted in a passion for the Bulldogs and Lady Techsters. From an architecture student stepping on the campus for the first time in 1972 to an appointment as Louisiana Tech’s 14th President in 2013, Dr. Guice has shown an unwavering commitment to leadership and service to his alma mater. Most recently, Guice’s leadership in promoting a spirit of teamwork has helped the campus community and the City of Ruston work together to overcome the enormous challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic that came on the heels of the tornado that plowed through the campus and community in April 2019. Yet unparalleled educational experiences and unparalleled campus growth have continued. The Integrated Engineering and Science Building opened last fall. The new baseball, softball, and soccer facilities are being built. Work is ongoing for new green space, intramural fields, and student housing along Tech Drive south of the railroad tracks. Add to that additional parking lots, green space and beautification at the site of the recently demolished Harper and Harris Halls, and plans to build a much-needed Tech Pointe II. One of Dr. Guice’s first achievements at Tech was earning a bachelor of arts in architecture in 1976. Discovering a passion for engineering under the mentorship of Professor Jack Painter, Dr. Guice went on to earn a master’s degree in civil engineering from Tech in 1978. While working on his master’s degree at Louisiana Tech, Dr. Guice also discovered a passion for teaching and education as a profession. Dr. Guice accepted a position as an assistant professor of civil engineering at Louisiana Tech in 1978 and was promoted to associate professor in 1981. A few short years after earning his PhD in civil engineering from Texas A&M University in 1986, Dr. Guice was named the interim department head of civil engineering in Louisiana Tech’s College of Engineering in 1988 and earned the permanent department head position and full professorship in 1989. As department head, Dr. Guice initiated the formation of the Civil Engineering Advisory Board and the Civil Engineering Distinguished Alumni recognition program, both of which significantly enhanced alumni participation and significantly enhanced fundraising for the department. Throughout the next decade, Dr. Guice would continue to distinguish himself as an academician, researcher, administrator, and leader. His dedication to his students, his faculty, and the University would lead to his appointment as Dean of Louisiana Tech’s College of Engineering and Science (COES) in 1999. As Dean, Dr. Guice continued to encourage and support innovations in the curricula. The College’s faculty became increasingly successful in securing external funding for the integrated curriculum which resulted in a transformative redesign of programs throughout the College. Dr. Guice’s leadership and vision also reinvigorated the Engineering and Science Foundation to more effectively serve the needs of the College. He initiated a new integrated strategic plan, known as “COES 2010,” and capital campaign, “Tech’s BEST,” which led to major advancement of the college and to funding for an Eminent Scholar Chair, 15 Professorships, $500k Scholarship Fund, and several new laboratories and facilities. Dr. Guice’s leadership also helped to guide the Institute for Micromanufacturing (IfM) toward a focus on the emerging field of nanotechnology. With the hiring of key nanotechnology faculty in numerous disciplines, further expansion of research laboratories, establishment of an interdisciplinary engineering PhD program with a nanotechnology track, and initiation of a BS in Nanosystems Engineering, the IfM and COES established strong research and education nanotechnology programs that have received national recognition. In 2004, Dr. Guice’s performance and accomplishments as dean led to his appointment as Tech’s vice president for research and development. During his tenure as vice president and, beginning in 2012, as executive vice president, Tech has significantly increased patents, licenses/options, startup companies, SBIR grants with affiliated companies, and has established strong industry partnerships for commercialization of technologies. Dr. Guice also led the establishment of Tech’s first two technology incubators,

the Rawle and Humana Enterprise Centers. With a focus on the future and a progressive vision for economic development, Dr. Guice has led the planning and development of the Louisiana Tech Enterprise Campus – a research park connecting the university and downtown Ruston. Enterprise Campus’ first building, Tech Pointe, was completed in 2012 and is now home for several companies and organizations, including an Air Force-funded Cyberspace Research Laboratory. With the completion of Tech’s new College of Business building and renovation to University Hall as a home for interdisciplinary entrepreneurship and innovation activities, the first phase of Enterprise Campus was completed. Dr. Guice’s reputation for exemplary leadership and service is further evidenced by the many statewide and Conference-USA-wide organizations he has founded or chaired, and he’s been honored with numerous awards, both locally and statewide. Currently he serves as chair of the C-USA Board of Directors. As Tech’s president, Dr. Guice is the chief executive officer of north Louisiana’s only Carnegie Foundation national research university and one of only two public universities from Louisiana recognized in the top tier of national universities in the U.S. News and World Report. Dr. Guice leads a University that consistently receives high marks in affordability, in starting salaries for graduates, and in providing graduates with the best returns on investment. Throughout his career, Dr. Guice has contributed to and played a central role in creating the culture and vision for the future of Louisiana Tech; he continues that commitment as president. Dr. Guice’s focus on campuswide engagement, building and growing relationships, and leadership in forging a path toward advancement of the University’s academic and athletic programs, research and commercialization activities, and economic development efforts means that Louisiana Tech University’s best days are yet to come. Dr. Guice is a native of Monroe and grew up in Bastrop. He and his wife, Kathy, have three sons – Kyle, Chad, and Bret – and four grandchildren, Christopher, twins Everly and Elizabeth, and the youngest, Evie.

TOMMY

McCLELLAND DIRECTOR of ATHLETICS

@TMcClelland Since stepping on campus in July of 2013, the cornerstone of Louisiana Tech Director of Athletics Tommy McClelland’s leadership has been the philosophy of building champions on the playing fields, in the classrooms and in life. While leading Louisiana Tech into the Conference USA era, McClelland has impacted the athletics department through fundraising, facility improvements, coaching hires and overall student-athlete development. If the past seven years are an indication, McClelland’s philosophy is paying dividends in Ruston. In fact one could argue that since his arrival in Ruston, Louisiana Tech has seen its most impressive seven-year run since the 1970s. Over that time, the University has seen postseason appearances by football, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, baseball, softball, golf and track and field. The Louisiana Tech programs have all taken strides forward on the playing fields, highlighted by: Football – the Bulldogs are the only program in the nation to win a bowl game in each of the past six years, including a 14-0 victory over Miami (Fla) in the 2019 Walk-ons Independence Bowl. Men’s Basketball – the Bulldogs have won 20 or more games in seven of the last eight seasons, posting a home mark of 121-11 during its last 132 home games (ninth best home winning percentage in that span of time). Tech won a pair of regular season conference titles during this stretch. Women’s Basketball – Head coach Brooke Stoehr (a former Lady Techster) led the program to back-to-back Women’s National Invitation Tournament appearances in 2017 and 2018 and top four finishes in the C-USA regular season. Baseball – Louisiana Tech had won 34-plus games for four straight seasons prior to the COVID-19 shortened 2020 campaign, the longest such streak since the 1980s. Tech made its first NCAA Regional appearance in 30 years when the Bulldogs won 40-plus games and reached the Starkville Regional finals in 2016. Softball – the Lady Techsters recorded five straight 30-plus win seasons (prior to the COVID19 shortened 2020 campaign), including 45 victories in 2019 – the second most in program history. Tech won three Conference USA titles (2019 regular season; 2017 & 2019 tournament titles), earning a spot in the 2017 and 2019 NCAA Regionals. Men’s Golf – the 2016 Bulldog golf team shocked everyone in route to capturing the Conference USA team title (its first since 1980) and clinching the program’s first ever appearance in the NCAA Regionals. Victor Lange became the first Bulldog to ever earn three straight strips to the NCAA Regionals. Louisiana Tech was one of only seven FBS schools in the country to have 9-plus football wins, 20-plus MBB wins, 35-plus baseball wins and 35-plus softball wins (one of only two non-Power 5 teams to accomplish it: BYU) during the 2016-17 campaign. That same season Tech also became only the second C-USA program to finish in the top 5 in football, women’s basketball, men’s basketball, baseball, softball and soccer in the same season in league’s history (East Carolina, 2012-13). In 2015-16 Louisiana Tech joined Florida, Florida State, Ohio State and Ole Miss as the only five Football Bowl Subdivision schools to recorded 9-plus wins in football, 20-plus wins in men’s basketball and 40-plus wins in baseball. It was also one of only 12 FBS programs to play in the postseason in each of those three sports, joining Florida, Connecticut, Florida State, Texas Tech, Texas A&M, Ohio State, Washington, Duke, Arizona, Utah and Miami (Fla.). Pretty elite company. Off the field, Louisiana Tech student-athletes have blossomed in the classroom as well. During McClelland’s time in Ruston, 1137 LA Tech student-athletes have been recognized on the Conference USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll, including a record 212 in 2018-19, while another 277 have earned the C-USA Academic Medal, including a record 60 in 2018-19. Louisiana Tech senior soccer star Katie Sloan was named the 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-America of the Year for Division I Women’s Soccer,

becoming the first student-athlete in LA Tech history to receive this prestigious honor. Sloan (2015, 2016) joined Jacie McClure (volleyball, 2017), Taylor Stahly (women’s basketball, 2019) and Marilyn Rizzato (softball, 2020) as CoSIDA Academic All-Americans during McClelland’s time at Tech. The University has also seen its athletic programs continue to earn high marks in both the NCAA’s annual Academic Progress Report (APR) and Graduation Success Rate, ranking among the state and conference leaders in many of these marks. Perhaps the most tangible sign of McClelland’s impact at Louisiana Tech are in facilities with the addition of the $23-plus million Davison Athletics Complex and the $18-plus million press box and luxury suites at Joe Aillet Stadium. These two new facilities not only changed the landscape of football game-day in Ruston but also produce more than $1.2 million in additional revenue per year for LA Tech Athletics. Following the EF3 tornado that struck the LA Tech campus in April of 2019 destroying many of its athletic facilities, McClelland has served an integral part in helping secure the funding for brand new facilities for baseball, softball, soccer and tennis. In addition to the new construction, the department has seen upgrades and renovations to many of its other athletic facilities, such as the addition of the $1.2 million Paul Millsap Vision presented by Community Trust Bank, a high definition video display board in the Thomas Assembly Center. The project also included a customized sound system for the Thomas Assembly Center and a video board control room, utilized for both football and basketball. Louisiana Tech Athletics has also seen record numbers in private giving in each of the last five years, including a record $1.67 million in giving to the Louisiana Tech Athletics Club (LTAC) in 2018-19. Tech has also seen record numbers in most LTAC donors in the past three years, including a record of more than 1,800 this past year. Louisiana Tech also made the announcement in the fall of 2015 that it partnered with Adidas America, Inc. to establish a transformational 5-year exclusive agreement that outfits all 16 NCAA men’s and women’s programs in Adidas uniforms, apparel, footwear and equipment through the 20202021 athletics season. During his time in Ruston, McClelland has also groomed a pair of newly named athletic directors in Lamar AD Marco Born and Florida Atlantic AD Brian White. Both Born and White served on McClelland’s senior staff during their time in Ruston. Prior to coming to Ruston, McClelland made a national name for himself after quickly elevating to the athletics director position at age 26. He earned high praise from a number of high-profile experienced athletic administrators.

Prior to being named athletic director at McNeese State on March 19, 2008, McClelland served as interim athletic director and assistant athletic director of internal affairs at the university. In his time at McNeese, McClelland and his staff had numerous success stories when it came to increased revenue streams and the overall game-day experience in Lake Charles. He raised more than $3 million in private donations, and he was instrumental in increasing corporate sponsorships to nearly $1 million, while securing new clients and multiyear sponsorships. The native of Basile, Louisiana, served as a graduate assistant at Northwestern State in athletics and worked at the Southland Conference office as an administrative intern, assisting with championship events.

McClelland earned his bachelor’s degree from Northwestern State in 2004 and completed his master’s degree in sports administration in 2005. He walked on with the Demons football team and eventually earned a scholarship; he also competed in the javelin for the NSU track and field team. He is also a 2012 graduate of the Executive Program of the Sports Management Institute and attended instruction at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Kenan-Flagler Business School and the University of Southern California’s Marshall School of Business. McClelland is married to the former Jessica Stokes of Garrison, Texas. They have two sons, Lawson (10) and Grayson (9).
