Situated in the heart of all of the Louisiana Tech athletic facilities -- surrounded by Joe Aillet Stadium, the Thomas Assembly Center, the Lady Techster Soccer Complex and the Jim Mize Track and Field Complex -- are eight lighted tennis courts that make up the LA Tech Tennis Complex. Construction on the facility began in March 2008 and concluded five months later in August. Then on Oct. 15, 2008, the women’s tennis team played and swept Grambling State in their inaugural match at the new facility. A dedication ceremony took place two weeks later as then Tech President Dr. Dan Reneau officially announced it as the Louisiana Tech Tennis Complex. In the spring of 2015, all eight courts received a facelift by being resurfaced. The Lady Techsters have tallied an all-time spring dual record of 54-25 at their home courts. The team has had a winning home record in each of the last nine spring seasons, compiling a 49-13 mark which included a seasonbest nine wins in 2011 and an undefeated home seasons in 2014 and 2017. The facility has also seen the Lady Techsters host its first-ever conference match on April 8, 2010 against Hawai’i. They then notched their first-ever conference win a few days later on April 10 against San Jose State. Another highlight moment came on April 5, 2016 when LA Tech played its first ever home match as a nationallyranked team.

Amanda Stone joined the Louisiana Tech Family in September of 2016 to take over as head coach of the Lady Techster tennis team. One of the top up and coming young coaches in the country has brought stability to the program, now entering her fourth season at the helm. AMANDA This past spring was a difficult one for Stone as the squad was dealt numerous injuries throughout the season, including two season-ending injuries to top players. Despite the adversity, LA Tech put together another HEAD COACH double-digit win season with an 11-12 mark which included a seven-match winning streak to end the regular season. Lone senior Sonia Chen was named First Team All-Louisiana after registering a team-best 14-6 dual singles record, ending the season on a nine-match winning streak at the top of the lineup. The development of newcomers like Ana Jover and Ilana Tetraushvili also played a role in the success of the season as the freshman duo combined to go 19-12 in singles on courts two and three primarily. The spring season of 2018 was very similar as the squad suffered numerous injuries in the lineup, ultimately recording a 9-12 overall record. Chen was again the highlight of the season as the junior posted a team-best 13-4 dual singles record, including a program-tying 12 straight wins. Chen also went 11-1 in singles in the fall while capturing the ITA Southern Regionals B Draw championship. In year one, Stone guided the Lady Techsters to a 12-win spring season which included an undefeated mark at home (first since 2013). She coached two Lady Techsters -- Jazmin Britos and Nadja Manjon -- who were named All-Conference USA. The freshman Manjon registered 27 dual wins (singles and doubles) which was the third most by a LA Tech freshman in program history. Prior to coming to Ruston, Stone recorded an 86-20 record and four straight Sweet 16 appearances in the NCAA Tournament during her four seasons as the head coach at Northeastern State (Okla.), a Division II program located in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. The two-time MIAA Coach of the Year returned the RiverHawks back to national prominence, as the team shot up the rankings all four seasons Stone served as head coach. She posted at least 20 wins in each of her four years, which included four straight trips to the NCAA Championship Round of 16. She also led NSU to three-consecutive MIAA Regular Season Championships (2014-16). Stone boasted two ITA All-Americans, one ITA Central Region Senior Player of the Year, one ITA Central Region Player to Watch, one MIAA Player of the Year, and two MIAA Freshmen of the Year during her time at Northeastern State. Of the 15 players who competed in the program since Stone took over in 2013, 14 earned All-MIAA honors at least once. Those 14 student-athletes amassed 38 all-conference accolades. She took over the reins of a program that was unranked at the time and led it to the school’s first ever Top 10 ranking which came at the end of the 2016 campaign. Off the court, the RiverHawks were one of the nation’s top academic programs. Over the last four years, NSU touted one CoSIDA Academic All-American, four CoSIDA Academic All-District honorees, eight ITA Scholar-Athletes, one MIAA Academic Excellence award winner, 10 MIAA ScholarAthletes and 13 members of the MIAA Academic Honor Roll. The 2016 contingent went 20-4 overall with an undefeated (10-0) mark against MIAA opponents for the second-straight year. Northeastern State won the MIAA Regular Season Championship for the third year in a row and hosted the 2016 NCAA Central Region 1 Championship. The RiverHawks won the regional and advanced to the NCAA Championship Round of 16 for the fourth-straight year. All six members of the team earned All-MIAA honors, and Patricia Husakova was selected as the MIAA Player of the Year. She was also named an ITA All-American and was chosen as the ITA Central Region Senior Player of the Year. Husakova and doubles partner Molly Worden ended the season No. 15 in the nation. The 2015 team posted a 20-6 mark, which included a perfect 10-0 record in the MIAA. NSU claimed its second-straight MIAA title and served as hosts for the 2015 NCAA Central Region 2 Championship. The RiverHawks went on to win the regional and advance to the NCAA Championship Round of 16. Northeastern State ended the season ranked No. 18 in the nation and all eight members of the team earned All-MIAA honors. Both Kristina Savchenkov (No. 14) and Patricia Husakova (No. 39) earned national ITA singles rankings during the season, and they also teamed up to comprise the nation’s No. 10-ranked doubles tandem. The 2014 squad went 23-6 and captured the first conference championship for any NSU sport since the university joined the MIAA. Northeastern State ended Southwest Baptist’s stranglehold on the MIAA by snapping the Bearcats’ 32-match win streak against league opponents. The RiverHawks also won a pair of matches in the NCAA tournament to advance to the Round of 16. In her first campaign, she turned what was a 10-9 program the year before back into one of the premier programs in the nation. The 2013 season saw NSU finish at 23-4 overall and advance to the NCAA Round of 16 for the first time since 2007. The 23 wins were the most since 2006, and the RiverHawks also finished runner-up in their first year in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association with a 9-1 record. Northeastern State defeated four ranked teams in 2013 and went from unranked at the beginning of the campaign to No. 27 in the nation by years’ end. Stone returned to Tahlequah after spending two years at the University of Rochester (N.Y.), where she served as an assistant coach for both the men’s and women’s tennis programs. Her responsibilities with the YellowJackets included organizing, scheduling and planning daily practices, budget management, recruiting, marketing, and player development. She graduated cum laude from NSU in 2007 with a Bachelor of Art degree in mass communications and a minor in studio art. She is currently working towards a Master of Science degree in marketing at Rochester. Stone attended Northeastern State from 2004-07, where she served as one half of the top doubles tandem and played anywhere from No. 3 to No. 5 singles. She made two national tournament appearances, attained a No. 11 national doubles ranking in 2007 and posted an undefeated singles mark her senior year. Her first collegiate stop was at Oral Roberts, where she played basketball during her freshman campaign. She played in 22 games and made six starts in her lone season as a member of the Golden Eagles, helping lead the squad to an 18-10 record. Stone worked at Garmin International as a consumer technical writer prior to attending graduate school (2008-11). She has also served as an assistant tennis pro at Indian Springs Country Club in Tulsa (2007) and as an assistant coach for Girls on the Run (2010-11).

BIO, Dr. Leslie K. Guice Became 14th president of Louisiana Tech University, July 1, 2013
DR. LES
GUICE UNIVERSITY PRESIDENT @LKGuice
On Nov. 22, 1975, Les Guice, the future president of Louisiana Tech University but at the time a Tech junior architecture major, put a metaphorical but very visible exclamation point on two of his life’s biggest loves. First, he married to Kathy May, now his wife of 43 years, in south Arkansas. Second, the very newly newlyweds immediately headed to Ruston to watch Louisiana Tech’s football team play Arkansas State. In the cold and rain. Tech lost. Les and Kathy didn’t. Several diplomas, three sons and three grandchildren later, they are still going strong and leading their alma mater to new heights. Dr. Guice and Tech share a rich history together that spans five decades and has produced family ties that are deeply rooted in a passion for the Bulldogs and Lady Techsters. From an architecture student stepping on the campus for the first time in 1972 to an appointment as Louisiana Tech’s 14th President in 2013, Guice has shown an unwavering commitment to leadership and service to his alma mater. One of Guice’s first achievements at Tech was earning a bachelor of arts in architecture in 1976. Discovering a passion for engineering under the mentorship of professor Jack Painter, Guice went on to earn a master’s degree in civil engineering from Tech in 1978 and decided to pursue teaching and education as his profession. His dedication to his students, his faculty and the University would lead to his appointment as dean of Tech’s College of Engineering and Science (COES) in 1999. As Dean, Guice continued to encourage and support innovations in the curricula. The College’s faculty became increasingly successful in securing external funding for the integrated curriculum which resulted in a transformative redesign of curricula throughout the College. Guice’s leadership and vision also reinvigorated the Engineering and Science Foundation to more effectively serve the needs of the College. He initiated a new integrated strategic plan, known as “COES 2010,” and capital campaign, “Tech’s BEST,” that led to funding for an Eminent Scholar Chair, 15 Professorships, a $500k Scholarship Fund, and several new laboratories and facilities. With a focus on the future and a progressive vision for economic development, Guice has led the planning and development of the Louisiana Tech Enterprise Campus, a research park connecting the University and downtown Ruston. Enterprise Campus’ first building, Tech Pointe, was completed in 2012 and is now home for several companies and organizations; another building to house emerging companies is already needed. Because of a revitalized relationship between the City of Ruston and the University, and thanks to the Ruston citizens and friends and supporters of Tech, the partnership has resulted in about $300 million in investments, private and public, during the past two years. Much of that growth is due to Tech’s problem-solving, opportunity-seizing president. As president, Guice is the chief executive officer of north Louisiana’s only Carnegie Foundation national research university and one of only two public universities from Louisiana recognized in the top tier of national universities by U.S. News and World Report. Throughout his career, Guice has contributed to and played a central role in creating the culture and vision for the future of Tech; he continues that commitment as president. His focus on campus-wide engagement and building and growing relationships, plus his leadership in forging a path toward advancement of the University’s academic and athletic programs, research and commercialization activities, and economic development efforts means that Louisiana Tech University’s best days are yet to come.

TOMMY
McCLELLAND DIRECTOR of ATHLETICS @TMcClelland
Since stepping on campus in July of 2013, the cornerstone of Louisiana Tech Director of Athletics Tommy McClelland’s leadership has been the philosophy of building champions on the playing fields, in the classrooms and in life. While leading Louisiana Tech into the Conference USA era, McClelland impacts the athletics department through fundraising, facility improvements, coaching hires and overall student-athlete development. If the past five years are an indication, McClelland’s philosophy is paying dividends in Ruston. In fact one could argue that since his arrival in Ruston, Louisiana Tech has seen its most impressive five-year run since the 1970s. Over the past five years, the University has seen postseason appearances by football, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, baseball, softball, golf and track and field. During his time in Ruston, the Louisiana Tech programs have all taken strides forward on the playing fields, highlighted by: Football – the Bulldogs are one of just four teams nationally that have won a bowl game in each of the past four years, joining Clemson, Wisconsin and Utah. Since 2013, Tech has had more players selected in the NFL Draft than any other Conference USA program. Men’s Basketball – the Bulldogs were one of just 13 teams in the nation to record 23-plus wins five straight years (Tech won 17 this past year). Tech won a pair of regular season conference titles during this stretch. Women’s Basketball – Head coach Brooke Stoehr (a former Lady Techster great) led the program to back-to-back Women’s National Invitation Tournament appearances and top four finishes in the C-USA regular season. Baseball – Louisiana Tech has won 35-plus games for three straight seasons, the longest such streak since the 1980s while making its first NCAA Regional appearance in 30 years when the Bulldogs won 40-plus games and reached the Starkville Regional finals in 2016. Softball – the Lady Techsters have recorded four straight 30-plus win seasons for the first time in two decades. Tech won its first Conference USA Tournament title in 2017, earning a spot in the 2017 NCAA Tournament in the Tuscaloosa Regional where it took No. 1 ranked Minnesota to extra innings before falling. Men’s Golf – the 2016 Bulldog golf team shocked everyone in route to capturing the Conference USA team title (its first since 1980) and clinching the program’s first ever appearance in the NCAA Regionals. Victor Lange became the first Bulldog to ever earn three straight strips to the NCAA Regionals. Louisiana Tech was one of only seven FBS schools in the country to have 9-plus football wins, 20-plus MBB wins, 35-plus baseball wins and 35-plus softball wins (one of only two non-Power 5 teams to accomplish it: BYU) during the 2016-17 campaign. That same season Tech also became only the second C-USA program to finish in the top 5 in football, women’s basketball, men’s basketball, baseball, softball and soccer in the same season in league’s history (East Carolina, 2012-13). 2015-16 also saw some impressive achievements. Louisiana Tech joined Florida, Florida State, Ohio State and Ole Miss as the only five Football Bowl Subdivision schools to recorded 9-plus wins in football, 20-plus wins in men’s basketball and 40-plus wins in baseball. It was also one of only 12 FBS programs to play in the postseason in each of those three sports, joining Florida, Connecticut, Florida State, Texas Tech, Texas A&M, Ohio State, Washington, Duke, Arizona, Utah and Miami (Fla.). Pretty elite company. Off the field, Louisiana Tech student-athletes have blossomed in the classroom as well. During McClelland’s time in Ruston, a total of 726 LA Tech studentathletes have been recognized on the Conference USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll while another 173 have earned the C-USA Academic Medal, including a record 47 in 2017-18. Louisiana Tech senior soccer star Katie Sloan was named the 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-America of the Year for Division I Women’s Soccer, becoming the first student-athlete in LA Tech history to receive this
prestigious honor. The University has also seen its athletic programs continue to earn high marks in both the NCAA’s annual Academic Progress Report (APR) and Graduation Success Rate, ranking among the state and conference leaders in many of these marks. Perhaps the most tangible sign of McClelland’s impact at Louisiana Tech are in facilities with the addition of the $23-plus million Davison Athletics Complex and the $18-plus million press box and luxury suites at Joe Aillet Stadium. These two new facilities not only changed the landscape of football game-day in Ruston but also produce more than $1.2 million in additional revenue per year for LA Tech Athletics. In addition to the new construction, the department has seen upgrades and renovations to many of its other athletic facilities, such as the addition of the $1.2 million Paul Millsap Vision presented by Community Trust Bank, a high definition video display board in the Thomas Assembly Center. The project also included a customized sound system for the Thomas Assembly Center and a video board control room, utilized for both football and basketball. Louisiana Tech Athletics has also seen record numbers in private giving in each of the last four years, including surpassing $1.6 million in giving to the Louisiana Tech Athletics Club (LTAC) for the first time ever this past year. Tech has also seen record numbers in most LTAC donors in the past three years. During the 2013-14 fiscal year, McClelland spearheaded the efforts in raising more than $10.8 million through both LTAC and Quest for Excellence; more than double any previous year in Tech Athletics history. Included in the record total were five, seven-figure gifts. Louisiana Tech also made the announcement in the fall of 2015 that it partnered with Adidas America, Inc. to establish a transformational 5-year exclusive agreement that outfits all 16 NCAA men’s and women’s programs in Adidas uniforms, apparel, footwear and equipment through the 20202021 athletics season. During his time in Ruston, McClelland has also groomed a pair of newly named athletic directors in Lamar AD Marco Born and Florida Atlantic AD Brian White. Both Born and White served on McClelland’s senior staff during their time in Ruston. Prior to coming to Ruston, McClelland made a national name for himself after quickly elevating to the athletics director position at age 26. He earned high praise from a number of high-profile experienced athletic administrators. “Tommy McClelland is an outstanding leader and one of the nation’s rising stars in intercollegiate athletics,” said Bubba Cunningham, athletics director at the University of North Carolina. “He has a demonstrated commitment to supporting and developing his coaches and studentathletes and has already become well-known among ADs for his leadership, vision and character. Tommy has also shown a dedication to lifelong learning and the application of his skills and talents to making his athletic programs better.” Prior to being named athletic director at McNeese State on March 19, 2008, McClelland served as interim athletic director and assistant athletic director of internal affairs at the university.

In his time at McNeese, McClelland and his staff had numerous success stories when it came to increased revenue streams and the overall game-day experience in Lake Charles. He raised more than $3 million in private donations, and he was instrumental in increasing corporate sponsorships to nearly $1 million, while securing new clients and multiyear sponsorships. McClelland was also responsible for increasing football season ticket sales: the program eclipsed the 8,000 mark in 2008 with a high of 8,035 in 2009. In addition, he was instrumental in setting single-game attendance records in baseball, volleyball, softball, soccer, women’s basketball and women’s tennis. “Tommy is a rising star in the college athletics administration field and, in my view, the ideal leader to advance Louisiana Tech’s athletics program as it transitions into Conference USA,” said Liberty Athletics Director Ian McCaw. “He possesses impeccable integrity and has an extraordinary work ethic. Moreover, his interpersonal and relational skills are outstanding and will enable him to quickly connect with Bulldog fans as well as campus and community leaders.” One of McClelland’s main goals was to improve the life of the studentathletes and increase the game-day experience for the McNeese State fan base. One of the most effective ways to accomplish these goals was by improving the facilities. During his time at McNeese State, he oversaw a combined total of over $11 million dollars in facility renovation and new construction. The combination of increased revenue streams, renovations and new construction, and a highly-involved fan base led to plenty of success stories on the playing fields. During his tenure as athletic director, McNeese won Southland Conference championships in football (2007, 2009), soccer (2006, tournament; 2007, regular season), softball (2010, tournament; 2013, regular season), men’s basketball (2011, regular season), women’s basketball (2011, regular season; 2011 and 2012 tournament) and men’s cross country (2012). The women’s basketball program made its first appearances ever in the NCAA Tournament, and the men’s basketball program hosted the first

round of the NIT postseason tournament (Boston College live on ESPNU). Even more impressive is the fact that while the Cowboy and Cowgirl programs were capturing titles on the fields, the University’s studentathletes were making tremendous strides in the classroom. In five of McClelland’s six years as athletics director, McNeese State led the Southland Conference in the number of student-athletes named to the Commissioner’s Honor Roll. In addition, McClelland guided the resurgence in APR success in Lake Charles. The number of athletic programs boasting the required APR score of 925 went from four in his first year to all 16 in his final year. The community service hours performed by the MSU student-athletes also tripled to more than 3,000 during his tenure. “Tommy has a great knowledge of college athletics and excels at helping his student-athletes balance and succeed in their commitments to academics and athletics,” said Michigan Athletics Director Warde Manuel. “Tommy has also proven his ability to work effectively with coaches and administrators to help his programs be successful.” McClelland earned his bachelor’s degree from Northwestern State in 2004 and completed his master’s degree in sports administration in 2005. He walked on with the Demons football team and eventually earned a scholarship; he also competed in the javelin for the NSU track and field team. The native of Basile, Louisiana served as a graduate assistant at Northwestern State in athletics and also worked at the Southland Conference office as an administrative intern, assisting with championship events. McClelland is also a 2012 graduate of the Executive Program of the Sports Management Institute and attended instruction at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Kenan-Flagler Business School and the University of Southern California’s Marshall School of Business. McClelland is married to the former Jessica Stokes of Garrison, Texas. They have two sons, Lawson (8) and Grayson (7).
