LOUISIANA TECH TENNIS COMPLEX Situated next to Joe Aillet Stadium and the Jim Mize Track and Field Complex are eight lighted tennis courts that make up the Louisiana Tech Tennis Complex. Construction on the facility began in March 2008 and concluded five months later in August. Then on Oct. 15, 2008 as part of the fall schedule, the women’s tennis team played and swept Grambling State in their inaugural match at the new facility. A dedication ceremony took place two weeks later as then Tech President Dr. Dan Reneau officially announced it as the Louisiana Tech Tennis Complex. In the early hours of April 25, 2019, an EF3 tornado struck the Louisiana Tech campus and delivered almost complete devastation to the tennis complex. Almost a year later on April 22, 2020, work began on repairing the complex and was completed in late July with the resurfacing of the courts, new fencing and new LED lights. The Lady Techsters have tallied an all-time spring dual record of 54-25 at their home courts (the 2020 dual season was played at the Ruston Sports Complex). The team has had a winning home record in nine straight spring seasons, compiling a 49-13 mark which included a season-best nine wins in 2011 and undefeated home seasons in 2014 and 2017. The LA Tech Tennis Complex has seen the Lady Techsters host its first-ever conference match on April 8, 2010 against Hawai’i. They then notched their first-ever conference win at the facility a few days later on April 10 against San Jose State. Another highlight moment came on April 5, 2016 when they played their first ever home match as a nationally-ranked team (No. 73).
2021 LADY TECHSTER TENNIS RECORD BOOK | 3
Amanda Stone joined the Louisiana Tech Family in September of 2016 to take over as head coach of the Lady Techster tennis team. One of the top up and coming young coaches in the country has brought stability to the program, now entering her fifth season at the helm. That stability has now made her the all-time winningest head coach in program history and it was a 4-0 shutout victory over Southern on Feb. 28, 2020 that gave Stone career win No. 41. Despite the shortened spring season due to the COVID-19 public health threat, the Lady Techsters reached 10 wins which marked the third time in four seasons for a Stone-led squad to tally double-digit victories. She coached another First Team All-Louisiana honoree in Ana Jover who went 14-5 in dual singles and combined with Claudia Oravcova to go 13-5 in dual doubles, including a nine-match winning streak which was the longest in the program since 2013. There was also newcomer Alexia Romero who earned All-Louisiana Honorable Mention, becoming just the fourth freshman in program history to receive an LSWA award. She registered a 10-2 dual singles record, the best winning percentage of any Lady Techster. The 2019 spring season was a difficult one for Stone as the squad was dealt numerous injuries throughout the season, including two season-ending injuries to top players. Despite the adversity, LA Tech put together another double-digit win season with an 11-12 mark which included a seven-match winning streak to end the regular season. Lone senior Sonia Chen was named First Team All-Louisiana after registering a team-best 14-6 dual singles record, ending the season on a nine-match winning streak at the top of the lineup. The development of newcomers like Jover and Ilana Tetraushvili also played a role in the success of the season as the freshman duo combined to go 19-12 in the top half of the singles lineup. The spring season of 2018 was very similar as the squad suffered numerous injuries in the lineup, ultimately recording a 9-12 overall record. Chen was again the highlight of the season as the junior posted a team-best 13-4 dual singles record, including a program-tying 12 straight wins. Chen also went 11-1 in singles in the fall while capturing the ITA Southern Regionals B Draw championship. In year one, Stone guided the Lady Techsters to a 12-win spring season which included an undefeated mark at home (first since 2013). She coached two Lady Techsters -- Jazmin Britos and Nadja Manjon -- who were named All-Conference USA. The freshman Manjon registered 27 dual wins (singles and doubles) which was the third most by a LA Tech freshman in program history. Prior to coming to Ruston, Stone recorded an 86-20 record and four straight Sweet 16 appearances in the NCAA Tournament during her four seasons as the head coach at Northeastern State (Okla.), a Division II program located in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. The two-time MIAA Coach of the Year returned the RiverHawks back to national prominence, as the team shot up the rankings all four seasons Stone served as head coach. She posted at least 20 wins in each of her four years, which included four straight trips to the NCAA Championship Round of 16. She also led NSU to three-consecutive MIAA Regular Season Championships (2014-16). Stone boasted two ITA All-Americans, one ITA Central Region Senior Player of the Year, one ITA Central Region Player to Watch, one MIAA Player of the Year, and two MIAA Freshmen of the Year during her time at Northeastern State. Of the 15 players who competed in the program since Stone took over in 2013, 14 earned All-MIAA honors at least once. Those 14 student-athletes amassed 38 all-conference accolades. She took over the reins of a program that was unranked at the time and led it to the school’s first ever Top 10 ranking which came at the end of the 2016 campaign. Off the court, the RiverHawks were one of the nation’s top academic programs. Over the last four years, NSU touted one CoSIDA Academic All-American, four CoSIDA Academic All-District honorees, eight ITA Scholar-Athletes, one MIAA Academic Excellence award winner, 10 MIAA Scholar-Athletes and 13 members of the MIAA Academic Honor Roll. The 2016 contingent went 20-4 overall with an undefeated (10-0) mark against MIAA opponents for the second-straight year. Northeastern State won the MIAA Regular Season Championship for the third year in a row and hosted the 2016 NCAA Central Region 1 Championship. The RiverHawks won the regional and advanced to the NCAA Championship Round of 16 for the fourth-straight year. The 2015 team posted a 20-6 mark, which included a perfect 10-0 record in the MIAA. NSU claimed its second-straight MIAA title and served as hosts for the 2015 NCAA Central Region 2 Championship. The RiverHawks went on to win the regional and advance to the NCAA Championship Round of 16. Northeastern State ended the season ranked No. 18 in the nation and all eight members of the team earned All-MIAA honors. Both Kristina Savchenkov (No. 14) and Patricia Husakova (No. 39) earned national ITA singles rankings during the season, and they also teamed up to comprise the nation’s No. 10-ranked doubles tandem. The 2014 squad went 23-6 and captured the first conference championship for any NSU sport since the university joined the MIAA. Northeastern State ended Southwest Baptist’s stranglehold on the MIAA by snapping the Bearcats’ 32-match win streak against league opponents. The RiverHawks also won a pair of matches in the NCAA tournament to advance to the Round of 16. In her first campaign, she turned what was a 10-9 program the year before back into one of the premier programs in the nation. The 2013 season saw NSU finish at 23-4 overall and advance to the NCAA Round of 16 for the first time since 2007. The 23 wins were the most since 2006, and the RiverHawks also finished runner-up in their first year in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association with a 9-1 record. Stone led the doubles team of Ivana Belejova and Savchenkov to a national ITA rank of No. 19, and Savchenkov earned a national singles ranking of No. 49. Stone returned to Tahlequah after spending two years at the University of Rochester (N.Y.), where she served as an assistant coach for both the men’s and women’s tennis programs. Her responsibilities with the YellowJackets included organizing, scheduling and planning daily practices, budget management, recruiting, marketing, and player development. She graduated cum laude from NSU in 2007 with a Bachelor of Art degree in mass communications and a minor in studio art. She is currently working towards a Master of Science degree in marketing at Rochester. Stone attended Northeastern State from 2004-07, where she served as one half of the top doubles tandem and played anywhere from No. 3 to No. 5 singles. She made two national tournament appearances, attained a No. 11 national doubles ranking in 2007 and posted an undefeated singles mark her senior year. Her first collegiate stop was at Oral Roberts, where she played basketball during her freshman campaign. She played in 22 games and made six starts in her lone season as a member of the Golden Eagles, helping lead the squad to an 18-10 record. Stone worked at Garmin International as a consumer technical writer prior to attending graduate school (2008-11). She has also served as an assistant tennis pro at Indian Springs Country Club in Tulsa (2007) and as an assistant coach for Girls on the Run (2010-11).

DR. LES
GUICE
UNIVERSITY PRESIDENT
@LKGuice Louisiana Tech University and President Les Guice share a rich history together that spans five decades and has produced family ties deeply rooted in a passion for the Bulldogs and Lady Techsters. From an architecture student stepping on the campus for the first time in 1972 to an appointment as Louisiana Tech’s 14th President in 2013, Dr. Guice has shown an unwavering commitment to leadership and service to his alma mater. Most recently, Guice’s leadership in promoting a spirit of teamwork has helped the campus community and the City of Ruston work together to overcome the enormous challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic that came on the heels of the tornado that plowed through the campus and community in April 2019. Yet unparalleled educational experiences and unparalleled campus growth have continued. The Integrated Engineering and Science Building opened last fall. The new baseball, softball, and soccer facilities are being built. Work is ongoing for new green space, intramural fields, and student housing along Tech Drive south of the railroad tracks. Add to that additional parking lots, green space and beautification at the site of the recently demolished Harper and Harris Halls, and plans to build a much-needed Tech Pointe II. One of Dr. Guice’s first achievements at Tech was earning a bachelor of arts in architecture in 1976. Discovering a passion for engineering under the mentorship of Professor Jack Painter, Dr. Guice went on to earn a master’s degree in civil engineering from Tech in 1978. While working on his master’s degree at Louisiana Tech, Dr. Guice also discovered a passion for teaching and education as a profession. Dr. Guice accepted a position as an assistant professor of civil engineering at Louisiana Tech in 1978 and was promoted to associate professor in 1981. A few short years after earning his PhD in civil engineering from Texas A&M University in 1986, Dr. Guice was named the interim department head of civil engineering in Louisiana Tech’s College of Engineering in 1988 and earned the permanent department head position and full professorship in 1989. As department head, Dr. Guice initiated the formation of the Civil Engineering Advisory Board and the Civil Engineering Distinguished Alumni recognition program, both of which significantly enhanced alumni participation and significantly enhanced fundraising for the department. Throughout the next decade, Dr. Guice would continue to distinguish himself as an academician, researcher, administrator, and leader. His dedication to his students, his faculty, and the University would lead to his appointment as Dean of Louisiana Tech’s College of Engineering and Science (COES) in 1999. As Dean, Dr. Guice continued to encourage and support innovations in the curricula. The College’s faculty became increasingly successful in securing external funding for the integrated curriculum which resulted in a transformative redesign of programs throughout the College. Dr. Guice’s leadership and vision also reinvigorated the Engineering and Science Foundation to more effectively serve the needs of the College. He initiated a new integrated strategic plan, known as “COES 2010,” and capital campaign, “Tech’s BEST,” which led to major advancement of the college and to funding for an Eminent Scholar Chair, 15 Professorships, $500k Scholarship Fund, and several new laboratories and facilities. Dr. Guice’s leadership also helped to guide the Institute for Micromanufacturing (IfM) toward a focus on the emerging field of nanotechnology. With the hiring of key nanotechnology faculty in numerous disciplines, further expansion of research laboratories, establishment of an interdisciplinary engineering PhD program with a nanotechnology track, and initiation of a BS in Nanosystems Engineering, the IfM and COES established strong research and education nanotechnology programs that have received national recognition. In 2004, Dr. Guice’s performance and accomplishments as dean led to his appointment as Tech’s vice president for research and development. During his tenure as vice president and, beginning in 2012, as executive vice president, Tech has significantly increased patents, licenses/options, startup companies, SBIR grants with affiliated companies, and has established strong industry partnerships for commercialization of technologies. Dr. Guice also led the establishment of Tech’s first two technology incubators,

the Rawle and Humana Enterprise Centers. With a focus on the future and a progressive vision for economic development, Dr. Guice has led the planning and development of the Louisiana Tech Enterprise Campus – a research park connecting the university and downtown Ruston. Enterprise Campus’ first building, Tech Pointe, was completed in 2012 and is now home for several companies and organizations, including an Air Force-funded Cyberspace Research Laboratory. With the completion of Tech’s new College of Business building and renovation to University Hall as a home for interdisciplinary entrepreneurship and innovation activities, the first phase of Enterprise Campus was completed. Dr. Guice’s reputation for exemplary leadership and service is further evidenced by the many statewide and Conference-USA-wide organizations he has founded or chaired, and he’s been honored with numerous awards, both locally and statewide. Currently he serves as chair of the C-USA Board of Directors. As Tech’s president, Dr. Guice is the chief executive officer of north Louisiana’s only Carnegie Foundation national research university and one of only two public universities from Louisiana recognized in the top tier of national universities in the U.S. News and World Report. Dr. Guice leads a University that consistently receives high marks in affordability, in starting salaries for graduates, and in providing graduates with the best returns on investment. Throughout his career, Dr. Guice has contributed to and played a central role in creating the culture and vision for the future of Louisiana Tech; he continues that commitment as president. Dr. Guice’s focus on campuswide engagement, building and growing relationships, and leadership in forging a path toward advancement of the University’s academic and athletic programs, research and commercialization activities, and economic development efforts means that Louisiana Tech University’s best days are yet to come. Dr. Guice is a native of Monroe and grew up in Bastrop. He and his wife, Kathy, have three sons – Kyle, Chad, and Bret – and four grandchildren, Christopher, twins Everly and Elizabeth, and the youngest, Evie.
DR. ERIC A.
WOOD
DIRECTOR of ATHLETICS/VICE PRESIDENT
@EWOOD_AD Louisiana Tech President Les Guice introduced Dr. Eric A. Wood as a Vice President and the Director of Athletics during a press conference held in the Chris Richardson Suite of the Joe Aillet Stadium Press Box on Oct. 23, 2020. Wood, a former student-athlete at Sacred Heart University who is also 22-year veteran of collegiate athletic administration, comes to Ruston following a five-year stint at UCF, where he spent the past four years as the Deputy AD for Competitive Excellence. He becomes the first Director of Athletics in LA Tech history to also serve as a Vice President. “I’m proud to welcome Eric and his family to Louisiana Tech and Ruston,” said Dr. Guice. “His record of accomplishment shows Eric's qualifications, and interacting with him quickly convinces you he is something really special. He is a dynamic, charismatic individual who leads with intelligence and character. It's a rare combination, and we're very fortunate to have him on our team.” The Bronx, New York, native has served in a variety of roles within athletics administration for more than two decades. In addition to his time at UCF, Wood has held full-time positions at the University of Arkansas, the Atlantic Coast Conference, Wake Forest University and the University of New Haven. He also served as a graduate assistant at both the NCAA national office and Clemson University early in his career. “I want to thank Dr. Guice, Brooks Hull, Steve Davison, Mary Kay Hungate, Samuel Speed, and Dr. Donna Thomas for the opportunity to serve as the next Vice President and Director of Athletics, but more importantly for the opportunity to join the Louisiana Tech family,” said Dr. Wood. “After meeting the search committee, I could feel the genuine love they have for Louisiana Tech, and I just knew I wanted to serve alongside them.” At every level of his professional career, Wood has made an impact. His qualifications and accomplishments include: • Board of Trustee Member – Sacred Heart University • 2019 “Next Up” honoree presented by Adidas and College AD for senior level administrators • Athletics Representative on the UCF Presidents Advisory Staff Council • 2016 Top 40 Under 40 in the Arkansas Business Journal • 2009 graduate of the NCAA’s Leadership Institute • 11 years of executive staff level leadership • $55 million in successful management experience for sport programs, operations and support areas • $5 million in fundraising visits, proposals, and presentations for programing, operations and facilities • Head coach hires in football, men’s basketball, men’s and women’s tennis, and track and field • Sport administrator experience (football, men’s basketball, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s golf) • NCAA, NLI, Division I-A Athletics Director’s Association (Now Lead1), USTA committee service • 1997-98 NCAA football student-athlete Medal of Merit recipient as SA of the Year
is LA Tech’s gain. Eric Wood has had an enormous impact on our athletics program. Simply put, seemingly everything he touches turns to gold! I am grateful for Eric’s many contributions that have led to an unprecedented amount of competitive and academic success at UCF. “His interpersonal skills are second-to-none, and combined with his competitive drive, his work with our coaches and student-athletes allowed us to break a whole lot of records around here. I couldn’t be happier for Eric, Celia, and their beautiful family, and I look forward to following their continued success in this new adventure.” Wood also assisted with the hiring of UCF football coach Josh Heupel and men’s basketball coach Johnny Dawkins. The Knights football program has won 22 games over the past two seasons, including an undefeated regular season in 2018. The Knights men’s basketball program earned a trip to the 2019 NCAA Tournament, the program’s first since 2005. “Dr. Eric Wood is everything a school could want in an athletic director,” said Dawkins. “His greatest strength lies in his ability to connect with others. He is great with student athletes, administrators, and coaches. He will be greatly missed, but I can’t wait to see what he will accomplish at Louisiana Tech.” During his time in Fayetteville, Wood served as the Associate Athletics Director, Deputy Title IX Coordinator/Diversity Coordinator (2011-16) as well as the Assistant Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Development (200911). Wood was the Director of Student-Athlete Programs and Compliance at the ACC (2005-09) following a stint as the Assistant AD for Compliance at Wake Forest (2004-05). He began is full-time collegiate athletic administration career as the Assistant AD for Compliance and Student Development at the University of New Haven (2003-04). He is a 1998 graduate of Sacred Heart University, earning his degree in Psychology. He was a three-year starter at cornerback for the Pioneer football team with one outdoor season as a member of the track and field team. Wood earned a Medal of Merit, the athletic department’s highest honor, as the Student-Athlete of the Year his senior year at Sacred Heart. He completed his master’s degree in counseling and guidance services at Clemson University in May 2000 and his Doctorate of Education in Sports Management at the University of Arkansas in 2016. He is the first African-American Vice President in Louisiana Tech history as well as the first minority Director of Athletics in the University’s history. “I love the bold mission and vision of the University to be the top public research institution in the country,” said Wood. “My vision for athletics is the same – competitive excellence. We will compete in the classroom. We
During his tenure at UCF, Wood played a prominent role in the strategic planning process and day-to-day administration of the University’s 16-sport intercollegiate athletics program, assisting with key initiatives that impact overall competitive excellence in the classroom and on the respective playing fields as a member of his executive leadership team. He represented the department on the President’s Advisory Staff Council and served as sport administrator for the football and men’s basketball programs. Wood had administrative oversight of the Varsity Knights alumni letter-winners organization, UCF Convocation Corporation management and revenue generation, Knights Sports Performance, the sport administrators group, the sports science and sports nutrition departments, compliance, academics and all internal units impacting the competitive success of UCF’s 450 student-athletes. “President Guice and Louisiana Tech University made an absolute home run hire,” said UCF Director of Athletics Danny White. “UCF’s loss
