BULLDOG STORYLINES
• Louisiana Tech has its last home stand of the regular season, starting with a Thursday night contest versus FIU at 6 p.m. CT inside the Thomas Assembly Center on Karl Malone Court. With two league games remaining, the Bulldogs are tied for ninth in the conference standings.
• LA Tech scored a season low in points this past Saturday, falling 63-49 at Middle Tennessee. It was the second time this season the Bulldogs struggled against the Blue Raiders. In the two games against MTSU, LA Tech averaged just 50.0 points while shooting 32 percent from the field and 15 percent from three-point range (only made three triples in each game). The scoring outputs of 49 and 51 are the two lowest all year.
• The Bulldogs were held to under 70 points for a fourth straight game, something that has not happened since 2018. For the season, the Bulldogs are averaging 72.7 points per game, but they are only averaging 61.0 points over the last four contests. The scoring has been hard to come by at all three levels, shooting 38 percent from the field, 33 percent from beyond the arc, and averaging only 7.5 made free throws.
• Isaiah Crawford continues to show off his versatility. In the past month (nine games), he is averaging 15.3 points, 6.6 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 2.1 steals per game. He is also shooting 47.7 percent from the field and 46.4 from beyond the arc during this span. He scored a game-high 17 points to go along with nine rebounds at Middle Tennessee, leading the ‘Dogs in scoring for a seventh time this season (third time in last five games).
• Kenny Hunter had a standout game versus the Blue Raiders, recording his first career double-double with 11 points and a career-high 15 rebounds (only the second Bulldog in the last three seasons to have at least 15 boards in a single game). The 15 rebounds was the third most by a player in C-USA play this season. He ended up averaging 10.0 points and 12.0 rebounds during the two-game road swing at WKU and Middle Tennessee.
• LA Tech has been in close game after close game. In fact, 19 of their 29 games this season have been decided by 10 points or less (the most since the 2011-12 season). Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, they are a combined 6-13 in those games.
A LOUISIANA TECH WIN WOULD...
• Give the Bulldogs their 10th straight home victory in the month of March. LA Tech has not lost in the TAC in March since March 5, 2011.
• Give the Bulldogs their sixth straight home win over the Panthers. LA Tech is a perfect 5-0 versus FIU in the TAC since the two teams became league foes in C-USA. The last two home victories both came in 2020 and were each decided by three points.

TALVIN HESTER
HEAD COACH | 1ST SEASON
Louisiana Tech President Dr. Les Guice and Vice President/Director of Athletics Dr. Eric A. Wood introduced Talvin Hester as the 19th head men’s basketball coach in program history.
Hester, who has 20 years of coaching experience, is no stranger to Ruston after spending three seasons (2018-21) as an assistant coach with the Bulldogs. Most recently, he spent one season as an assistant coach at Texas Tech where he helped the third-seeded Red Raiders reach the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.
While in Lubbock this past season working under new head coach and Associated Press Big 12 Coach of the Year Mark Adams, Texas Tech put together a 27-win season including victories over Montana State and Notre Dame to help the program make its fifth Sweet 16 appearance in program history.
TTU, which had five All-Big 12 selections, was ranked as high as No. 9 in the country and reached the Big 12 championship final for just the second time in program history. The Red Raiders had the No. 1 ranked defense in the country (per Kenpom.com) while limiting opponents to only 60.2 points per game, holding teams to 38.2 percent shooting and forcing 15.9 turnovers per contest.
During his three successful years at LA Tech under Eric Konkol, Hester helped the Bulldogs register three winning seasons of 20-plus victories. The 2020-21 season saw the ‘Dogs register a 24-8 overall record while claiming a Conference USA West Division title and a third place finish in the National Invitation Tournament. The team received an at-large berth to play in the NIT for the first time since 2015 and became just the second team in program history to make the Final Four.
LA Tech, which had the highest-rated defense in C-USA ranking top 30 in the country in field goal percentage defense and three-point field goal percentage defense, upset Ole Miss in the first round, defeated league foe Western Kentucky in the quarterfinals and won a 76-74 thriller over No. 1 overall seed Colorado State in the Final Four consolation game.
In his second season in 2019-20, the Bulldogs registered a 22-8 overall record during the regular slate, but the team did not have a chance at postseason play with the Conference USA and NCAA/NIT Tournaments being canceled due to the public health threat of COVID-19. The 22 wins ended up being the most victories of any Conference USA team and of any Louisiana Division I team. The Bulldogs also recorded a 13-5 league record, finishing in a tie for second place.
In his first year with the ‘Dogs, Hester helped the team to 20 victories. Eight of the 20 victories came against teams who also produced 20-win seasons, the most in program history. One of those came in the season opener at Wichita State as the Bulldogs shocked the Shockers, handing them only their fourth loss in their last 76 games at home.
Hester helped coach All-Conference USA selections DaQuan Bracey (First Team), Kenneth Lofton, Jr. (Third Team and C-USA Freshman of the Year) and Isaiah Crawford (Third Team) as well as Cobe Williams who was a member of the C-USA All-Defensive Team.
Along with stops at Texas Tech and Louisiana Tech, Hester spent the majority of his coaching career in the south, especially in the Lone Star State. He spent time at Oral Roberts, Houston, Texas State, Stephen F. Austin, San Jose State, Prairie View A&M, Texas College, Texas Wesleyan and North Lake College during his career.
Hester began his coaching career in 2002 at North Lake College in Irving, Texas. His coaching resume also includes a stop with the Texas Rim Rockers of the United States Basketball League as an assistant coaching intern and the Dallas Mustangs AAU team for one season.
As a student-athlete, Hester played at Dallas Christian College during the 1996-97 season. He received his bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies from Texas Wesleyan in 2003.

It was the largest margin of victory in an OT game for the ‘Dogs since defeating North Texas, 73-62, in 2016. It was also the first time in program history (on record) that LA Tech shutout an opponent in overtime.
isaiah TAKEs YOUR BALL
Isaiah Crawford is making a strong case for being on the C-USA All-Defensive Team this season.
He has recorded at least four steals in nine games, breaking the program record for most games with four-plus steals in a single season.
Isaiah Crawford (2022-23) 9 times
Speedy Smith (2013-14) 8 times

Crawford is one of six players in the entire country who have had nine games of at least four steals the season (tied for third most in the nation).
After recovering from the first knee injury, he bounced back to have an All-Conference USA season (Third Team). He looks to have the same bounce back this season and so far he is.
He is averaging a team-best 13.3 points per game while shooting 50 percent from the field and 43 percent from three. And defensively, he ranks top 35 in the country in total steals and steals per game.
“threeston” willis
Keaston ... aka “Threeston” ... Willis made his presence known from beyond the three-point line in his first year with the Bulldogs last season.
He ended up ranking in the top 50 in the country in three-point field goal percentage (39.2%) and three-pointers made (93). His 93 threes was the second most in program history in a single season.
He is on a good pace this season, having knocked down a team-high 71 three-pointers, recently eclipsing 250 made threes in the game at Rice on Jan. 5.

Nov. 14, 2022
Jordan Crawford was voted as the Conference USA Freshman of the Week in week one.
He saw 20 minutes of action in the season opener against Mississippi College, registering 15 points, three assists, and three steals.
IMMEDIATE IMPACT FOR FROSH
Jordan Crawford had only one scholarship offer from a Division I college basketball program ... and that was the home town school of Louisiana Tech.
The true freshman who won four state championships at nearby Simsboro High School has made an immediate impact for the Bulldogs.
He has played in all 29 games while making 19 starts, and is first on the team in total assists (95) and second in total steals (32).
MTE SUCCESS
Practically every season, Louisiana Tech plays in a multi-team event. And practically every season, the Bulldogs go updated in said events.
LA Tech went 3-0 in the Samford MTE this season, winning road games at Alabama A&M and Samford plus a neutral site victory over UT Southern.
Over the last decade, the ‘Dogs are a combined 31-6 in multi-team events.

Junior was one of just 17 undrafted rookies to make an NBA opening day roster and became the first Bulldog since Erik McCree (2018 with Utah Jazz) to play in an NBA game.

ANOTHER 20-Piece
LA Tech put together yet another 20-win season. It marked the 28th time in program history of reaching 20 wins. The Bulldogs are one of just 18 teams in Division I to have won 20+ games in at least nine of the last 10 seasons.

20-GAME LEAGUE SCHEDULE
With the departure of Southern Miss, Marshall, and Old Dominion to the Sun Belt, Conference USA went from a 14-team league to an 11team league.
As a result, the Bulldogs will take part in a 20game conference schedule for the first time in program history (had been an 18-game league schedule since 2014-15).

CRAWFORD x2
If you are seeing double with the last name on the jerseys, it is not you. Last season, the Bulldogs had a pair of Williams’ with Terran and Cobe. This season, there is the addition of having two Crawfords with Jordan and Isaiah.
They are just the 10th and 11th pair of Bulldogs to be on the roster at the same time with the same last name. This does mark the first time in program history that there are two sets of the same last name.
North Louisiana has seen its fair share of great basketball players. However, it is been rare to have a Bulldog from Louisiana Tech’s hometown of Ruston.
And for the first time since 2008, a Bulldog calls Ruston home in Jordan Crawford. The guard was a four-time state champion at nearbly Simsboro High School.
north carolina duo
The majority of Bulldogs have always hailed from the home state of Louisiana and the neighboring state of Texas. Of course, Florida has been a popular state to pick players from as well over the last decade or so.
This season though, the Bulldogs have the addition of Dravon Mangum and Quandre Bullock, both of whom are from North Carolina.
Prior to this season, there had been only two Bulldogs to have ever called North Carolina home. That has doubled this season.
conference series history
With the Bulldogs success in C-USA, its no surprise that they do not trail in any conference series history since joining the league.

dominant in c-usa
LA Tech currently has the most overall wins and the most conference wins since joining Conference USA in 2013-14 (records do not include this season)
The Bulldogs victory over USM on Jan. 13, 2022 turned out to be their 100th C-USA victory. It took them only 145 games to get there, the second fastest of any team in league history.

Since 2014, there have been 10 Bulldogs to join the 1,000-point club, bringing the grand total to 44 for LA Tech. Cobe Williams recently became the 44th, reaching the milestone in the overtime win at Rice on Jan. 5.
About the panthers
After having a stretch of winning five of its six games, FIU has suffered four straight losses at the hands of Rice, Middle Tennessee, UTEP, and UTSA. Three of those losses came by seven points or less, including a 95-91 defeat this past Saturday at home against UTSA.
In their last outing, the Panthers had as much as a 16-point lead at 58-42 before the Roadrunners put together a 31-11 run to go on top with 11 minutes to go. Tied at 91-91 with 39 seconds to go, UTSA knocked down four free throws to claim just its third league victory and its second road win of the season.
FIU ranks third in C-USA and 55th in the country in field goal percentage at 46.8 percent. The Panthers are led offensively by guard Denver Jones who is averaging 19.6 points per game. He has had 15 games of 20+ points, second most in the league, and is averaging 20.3 points during conference play.

LA Tech have been league foes in two different conferences -- Sun Belt Conference (1998-01) and Conference USA (2013-present).
Since the two became C-USA opponents, the Bulldogs own a slim 6-5 advantage in the series. The two teams matched three-game winning streaks until the Panthers came out on top, 66-62, back on Feb. 9 in Miami.
Turnovers and fouling were the difference forLouisiana Tech in the first meeting this season with FIU. Despite making more field goals (23 to 22) and more three-point field goals (nine to four), LA Tech matched its season high in TOs with 23 and sent FIU to the free throw line 28 times.
SERIES HISTORY
Defensively, the Panthers apply a ton of pressure. They rank top 20 in the country in both steals per game (9.0) and turnovers forced per game (16.45). They have forced at least 20 turnovers in three of their last six games. One of their havoc creators is freshman Arturo Dean who averages 2.45 steals per game (has a total of 71). Both of those marks rank top 10 in the nation. Series
The last seven meetings between the Bulldogs and Panthers have been decided by seven points or less (and the last four meetings have been decided by four points or less).
