BULLDOG STORYLINES
• Louisiana Tech opens up the month of December with a home matchup against Southern on Friday night at 6 p.m. The Bulldogs are riding a 4-game winning streak after collecting four victories in the span of six days last week.
• LA Tech ended up going a perfect 3-0 in the Samford MTE last week, winning on the road against Alabama A&M and Samford before closing it out with a convincing 91-47 victory over UT Southern in a neutral site contest. In the last decade, the Bulldogs are 31-6 in multi-team events.
• All 12 Bulldogs suited up scored in the win over the Firehawks, led by Keaston Willis and Dravon Mangum who each had 17 points. They combined to make eight of LA Tech’s 15 three-pointers, which set a new single-game program record for made threes in a non-home game. Through seven games, eight different Bulldogs have registered double-digit points.
• Cobe Williams continues to lead LA Tech in scoring with an average of 17.8 points per game (most by a Bulldog through the first seven games in the last 10 years). He is cur rently one of only 15 guards in the country averaging at least 17 points while shooting at least 50 percent from the field and 40 percent from three.
• Jordan Crawford registered a season-high eight assists against UT Southern, giving him a team-best 33 for the season. The 33 assists are the second most in the country by a freshman this season and the second most in program history by a freshman through the first seven games. He has tallied at least three assists in all seven games.
• The Bulldogs have forced 138 turnovers this season, the most in C-USA and the 24th most in the country. LA Tech has forced 20+ turnovers in five of the season games, including the last three (first time since 2012 forcing 20+ TOs in three straight games). As a result, three players -- Isaiah Crawford (16), Jordan Crawford (14), and Cobe Williams (13) -- rank in the top seven in the league in total steals with all three averaging at least 2.00 steals per game.
• LA Tech has recorded at least 20 points off turnovers in all seven games this season, averaging 22.7 points off turnovers per game. By contrast, the Bulldogs also totaled 20+ points off turnovers in seven total games all of last season.
A LOUISIANA
TECH
WIN WOULD...
• Would be LA Tech’s 31st consecutive non-conference victory at home, setting the Thomas Assembly Center record for longest non-conference winning streak.
• Would be LA Tech’s 25th straight win over a SWAC opponent. The Bulldogs continued that streak on Nov. 23 with a win at Alabama A&M. There last loss was in 2007.
• Would be LA Tech’s 10th straight home win over an in-state opponent. The last loss in the TAC to an in-state school came in 2017.

HEAD COACH | 1ST SEASON
Louisiana Tech President Dr. Les Guice and Vice President/Director of Athletics Dr. Eric A. Wood introduced Talvin Hester as the 19th head men’s basketball coach in program history.
Hester, who has 20 years of coaching experience, is no stranger to Ruston after spending three seasons (2018-21) as an assistant coach with the Bulldogs. Most recently, he spent one season as an assistant coach at Texas Tech where he helped the third-seeded Red Raiders reach the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.
While in Lubbock this past season working under new head coach and Associated Press Big 12 Coach of the Year Mark Adams, Texas Tech put together a 27-win season including victories over Montana State and Notre Dame to help the program make its fifth Sweet 16 appearance in program history.
TTU, which had five All-Big 12 selections, was ranked as high as No. 9 in the country and reached the Big 12 championship final for just the second time in program history. The Red Raiders had the No. 1 ranked defense in the country (per Kenpom.com) while limiting opponents to only 60.2 points per game, holding teams to 38.2 percent shooting and forcing 15.9 turnovers per contest.
During his three successful years at LA Tech under Eric Konkol, Hester helped the Bulldogs register three winning seasons of 20-plus victories. The 2020-21 season saw the ‘Dogs register a 24-8 overall record while claiming a Conference USA West Division title and a third place finish in the National Invitation Tournament. The team received an at-large berth to play in the NIT for the first time since 2015 and became just the second team in program history to make the Final Four.
LA Tech, which had the highest-rated defense in C-USA ranking top 30 in the country in field goal percentage defense and three-point field goal percentage defense, upset Ole Miss in the first round, defeated league foe Western Kentucky in the quarterfinals and won a 76-74 thriller over No. 1 overall seed Colorado State in the Final Four consolation game.
In his second season in 2019-20, the Bulldogs registered a 22-8 overall record during the regular slate, but the team did not have a chance at post season play with the Conference USA and NCAA/NIT Tournaments being canceled due to the public health threat of COVID-19. The 22 wins ended up being the most victories of any Conference USA team and of any Louisiana Division I team. The Bulldogs also recorded a 13-5 league record, finishing in a tie for second place.
In his first year with the ‘Dogs, Hester helped the team to 20 victories. Eight of the 20 victories came against teams who also produced 20-win seasons, the most in program history. One of those came in the season opener at Wichita State as the Bulldogs shocked the Shockers, handing them only their fourth loss in their last 76 games at home.
Hester helped coach All-Conference USA selections DaQuan Bracey (First Team), Kenneth Lofton, Jr. (Third Team and C-USA Freshman of the Year) and Isaiah Crawford (Third Team) as well as Cobe Williams who was a member of the C-USA All-Defensive Team.
Along with stops at Texas Tech and Louisiana Tech, Hester spent the majority of his coaching career in the south, especially in the Lone Star State. He spent time at Oral Roberts, Houston, Texas State, Stephen F. Austin, San Jose State, Prairie View A&M, Texas College, Texas Wesleyan and North Lake College during his career.
Hester began his coaching career in 2002 at North Lake College in Irving, Texas. His coaching resume also includes a stop with the Texas Rim Rockers of the United States Basketball League as an assistant coaching intern and the Dallas Mustangs AAU team for one season.
As a student-athlete, Hester played at Dallas Christian College during the 1996-97 season. He received his bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary stud ies from Texas Wesleyan in 2003.

“Coach Hester is a great coach but an even better person. I have known him for years and he cares about his players off the court almost more than on the court. He is going to make sure his team plays hard and plays together while making sure that he teaches life lessons off the court.”

Jan. 11, 2020. El Paso, Texas. Nov. 15, 2021. Ruston, Louisiana.

Jordan Crawford had only one scholarship offer from a Division I college basketball pro gram ... and that was the home town school of Louisiana Tech.
The true freshman who won four state championships at nearby Simsboro High School has made an immediate impact for the Bulldogs.
He has started the last four games, and currently leads the team in assists per game at 4.7.
He has registered at least three assists in every game and his 33 assists are the second most of any freshman in the country and the second most in program history of any fresh man through the first seven games.

CRAWFORDS AND WILLIAMS
If you are seeing double with the last name on the jerseys, it is not you. Last season, the Bulldogs had a pair of Williams’ with Terran and Cobe. This season, there is the addition of having two Crawfords with Jordan and Isaiah.
They are just the 10th and 11th pair of Bull dogs to be on the roster at the same time with the same last name. This does mark the first time in program history that there are two sets of the same last name.
20-GAME LEAGUE SCHEDULE
With the departure of Southern Miss, Marshall, and Old Dominion to the Sun Belt, Conference USA went from a 14-team league to an 11team league.
As a result, the Bulldogs will take part in a 20game conference schedule for the first time in program history (had been an 18-game league schedule since 2014-15).
HOMETOWN KID
North Louisiana has seen its fair share of great basketball players. However, it is been rare to have a Bulldog from Louisiana Tech’s home town of Ruston.
And for the first time since 2008, a Bulldog calls Ruston home in Jordan Crawford. The guard was a four-time state champion at near bly Simsboro High School.
north carolina duo
The majority of Bulldogs have always hailed from the home state of Louisiana and the neighboring state of Texas. Of course, Florida has been a popular state to pick players from as well over the last decade or so.
This season though, the Bulldogs have the ad dition of Dravon Mangum and Quandre Bull ock, both of whom are from North Carolina.
Prior to this season, there had been only two Bulldogs to have ever called North Carolina home. That has doubled this season.
non-conference success
The Bulldogs produce strong non-conference seasons year in and year out, having tallied at least nine wins in eight of the last 10 seasons.
