Michael Black, ASLA, is the

CEO and a founding principal of la terra studio. Michael is a graduate of Mississippi State University. His experience in a wide range of projects allows him to manage each project’s unique complexities. Michael thrives on well thoughtout, creative designs that are practical for the client and memorable for the user. He is a registered landscape architect in Texas, Mississippi, Alabama, and Oklahoma. He is also a member of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) and the Council of Landscape Architectural Registration Boards (CLARB).

Kris Brown, CLARB,

Brad Stringer, PLA,

Brad Moulton, PLA, is a 2004

Kris’s problem solving and creative design solutions have helped him oversee many successfully constructed projects. He has a sincere appreciation for client needs and a passion for flawless execution during the construction of each project.

His project experience includes corporate, industrial, medical, governmental, parks, and institutional projects. Brad’s responsibilities include client meetings, project management, site analysis, construction documentation, and construction observation.

Brad has been involved with a variety of project types, including the planning and design of large single-family communities, municipal parks, transit-oriented designs, streetscapes, visioning, and city comprehensive plans,

ASLA, ISA, is the President and a founding principal of la terra studio. Kris obtained his Bachelor of Landscape Architecture degree from Texas Tech University and is a Certified Arborist.

He is a registered landscape architect in Texas. Kris writes questions and grades candidates for the national landscape architecture

CLARB, ASLA, has served as a registered landscape architect and site planner for over twenty years and is the principal of la terra studio’s Mississippi office. He has been a part of many award-winning projects throughout his career.

Brad is a registered landscape architect in Mississippi, Tennessee, and Alabama.

graduate of Texas Tech University with a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture degree. He is a registered landscape architect in the State of Texas. He has won several awards for successful planning projects and his volunteer work with ASLA .

As a project manager at la terra studio, Brad leads the staff and guides the client through every aspect of a successful project. Brad is a registered landscape architect in Texas.


Nick Smith, designer

and project manager at la terra studio, graduated with a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture degree from Ball State University in 2005, Nick believes attention to detail must be a priority on every project to ensure accuracy of design and achieve the best finished product. He enjoys the creative partnership between architects, engineers, and other design professionals that helps to define truly successful projects. Nick is currently working towards his professional licensure through the Landscape Architecture Registration Examination (LARE).

Robert Cunningham,

has 11 years of experience in landscape architecture and urban design, specializing in public and private sector projects. The focus of his public sector project experience is with park and recreation planning and design, including trails and greenways, community and neighborhood parks, urban parks and sports complexes. Through his experience, Mr. Cunningham has expertise in the master planning process, including the public input process, concept and master plan development, and illustrative graphics.

John Sutton is la terra

studio’s staff photographer. John documents projects with exceptional before, during, and after photographs. John has an artistic eye and knack for creating the best images that successfully showcase our work.

Jessica Johnson joined

la terra studio in January 2016. She is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations and employees at la terra studio. Jessica brings 10+ years of human resource experience in organizational development, recruiting and strategic alignment. She received a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing from the University of Arkansas. She is certified as a Professional in Human Resources (PHR and SHRM-CP).


Jason Fickamn joined la terra

studio in 2015. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Art from Texas State University and a Masters of Landscape Architecture from Chatham University with an award in Creative Excellence. He has experience both domestically and internationally and has experience on projects in urban design, multi and single family development, sustainable design and urban stormwater management, recreation and park design, retail and streetscape design, resort and tourism, master planning and tall towers. He has worked on projects from Denver to Pittsburgh, Europe and Dubai. Jason focuses on the dynamic between the built and natural environments with an emphasis in artistic sustainable design and the creation of meaningful experiences. He provides each project with a view that constructed landscapes should be as aesthetically pleasing as much as they are functional and manageable and designed to uphold sustainable economic, social and environmental resilience. He believes land should be designed with an artfulness that interacts harmoniously with local environments and actively contributes to the developments of healthy communities.

Hanning Zhang joined la

terra studio team in August 2014 with a Master of Landscape Architecture from Rhode Island School of Design, Bachelor of Landscape Architecture and Bachelor of Marketing from China Agricultural University, China. Hanning have gained extensive experience across a range of projects from resort tourism, dynamic urban spaces, post-industrial sites, land art, environmental design, garden design as well as residential work. In addition to her work focusing on the geographical information system, she also study urban context, daily ritual, and market opportunity in the analysis phase. Hanning is interested in exploring new strategies to increase the complexity and depth of understanding of a place, understanding the way humans navigate through life and experience it.

Jeffrey Slater joined la

terra studio in February 2016. He received his Master’s in Landscape Architecture from Texas A&M University in 2013 and a Bachelor’s of Science in Landscape Management from Brigham Young University in 2009. Prior to joining la terra studio Jeff worked for both a civil/planning/ landscape architecture firm and a landscape architecture/urban design firm in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area working on a variety of projects ranging from single family planning, commercial, neighborhood parks, retail and high end residential work. Jeff joins the team with a passion for creating spaces that can combine the unique attributes of the site with detailed understanding of local environmental issues that enhance the community’s relation with the landscape and outdoor areas. Jeff also is a firm believer that the spaces we design should be intended for people and need to consider the human scale in all aspects of the site.

Shuran Qu joined la terra

studio in August 2016. She earned her master degree in Landscape Architect in Louisiana State University and her bachelor’s in BJFU, Beijing, China. She has been involved in broad experience on a wide variety of projects of different scales including urban planning, streetscape design, community design, planting design, tourism and roof garden design. Shuran’s passion is to enhance the existing surroundings and tie together the social, cultural and spacial dimensions effectively through creative designing, natural system integration as well as advanced materials and technologies.
