During these historical times, we are forced to rethink the value of our own culture. In many occasions, our own judgments and ideas about different people or nationalities are influenced by the experiences and ideas of others. I think it is time to get out of our comfort zone and explore the talent of many Latinos that proudly represent their culture in this country. A good example of this kind of effort is “Taller Puertorriqueño”, a community-based cultural organization, established in Philadelphia.
The primary purpose of el “Taller Puertorriqueño” is to preserve, develop, and promote Puerto Rican arts and culture. This organization is an exceptional example of the Latino talent, considering its productivity, representation, and empowering of our community, among many other attributes. El “Taller Puertorriqueño” is exactly as its own slogan proclaims: “the cultural heart of el barrio, referred to as the Latino Philadelphia)”. A community-based cultural organization, engaged also in promoting the cultural expressions of other Latino cultures, as well as their common historical and cultural roots.
"El Taller Puertorriqueño" organizational goals are: “To serve as an educational vehicle in the advancement of the Puerto Rican/ Latino community’s pursuit of cultural identity and reaffirmation; to strive to the continued development of the Puerto Rican/ Latino community through the arts; to preserve and promote the contributions and accomplishments of all Puerto Rican communities and support the work of Latino artists of all disciplines; to support increased understanding and appreciation of their cultures within the wider community.”
Cultural inclusion is so important that it should be part of our everyday life. What really matters is to highlight the positive cultural contributions of our Latino community to this country. The Caribbean, the arts and crafts, the festivities, and the Latino flavor, have been also successfully represented by this organization. El “Taller Puertorriqueño” is, no doubt about it, a valuable example of the optimal operation of cultural organizations in the United States.

Actualmente, estamos viviendo situaciones que invitan a reflexionar sobre la importancia de nuestra cultura. En muchas ocasiones, nuestros juicios y valores respecto a los diferentes pueblos y/o nacionalidades son influenciados por la experiencia o juicios ajenos. Ante esta situación, extiendo una invitación para explorar el talento de latinos, que orgullosamente representan su cultura. Ejemplo de ello es el “Taller Puertorriqueño”, una organización cultural comunitaria, con sede en Filadelfia.
El taller se enfoca en rescatar la cultura y el arte de Puerto Rico. Una experiencia ejemplar del talento latino, en cuanto a su productividad, representación y empoderamiento, entre otros muchos atributos. El Taller Puertorriqueño es realmente – como su slogan lo afirma– “el corazón cultural del barrio”. Se trata de una organización cultural comunitaria dedicada a promover, preservar y desarrollar el arte y la cultura puertorriqueños. Además de su compromiso en promover y mantener el patrimonio
cultural de Puerto Rico, también está comprometido en apoyar las expresiones culturales de otros comunidades latinas, así como sus raíces comunes. Sus objetivos organizacionales son: servir como vehículo educativo en el avance de la comunidad puertorriqueña/ latina en su búsqueda de identidad cultural y reafirmación; luchar por el continuo desarrollo de la comunidad puertorriqueña/ latina a través de las artes; preservar y promover las contribuciones y logros de todas las comunidades puertorriqueñas y apoyar el trabajo de artistas latinos de todas
las disciplinas; apoyar la comprensión y apreciación de otras culturas dentro de la comunidad en general. En fin, la inclusión cultural es tan valiosa que debe formar parte de la vida cotidiana. Y de eso se trata, de resaltar lo positivo, las ganancias y sobre todo, los aportes culturales de nuestra comunidad latina a este país. El Caribe, la artesanía, los festivales y el sabor latino también han sido exitosamente representados por este taller. El Taller Puertorriqueño es realmente un valioso ejemplo del óptimo funcionamiento de organizaciones culturales en Estados Unidos.

"How many times have I fallen in love?" That is a question that, sooner or later, people ask themselves. Nevertheless, love appears only few times in our lives. The illusion of being in love is confused with real love. Love is a feeling that makes you laugh without any particular reason; that makes you sigh; that makes you cry; that makes you fly; that turns you into your own magician when it comes to deal with all kinds of situations. Well, that’s it. Love doesn’t tell you when it is coming. It doesn’t advise you. It just appears and grows inside you. After that, it is through daily life when relationships get stronger. Trust and respect are the basic foundation in any successful relationship.
In this respect, we can define love as the feeling that moves you, that distorts situations and convulses the way we experiment life. To avoid confusion, one should mention that there are many kinds of love: love for nature, love for God, mother’s love, among others. Nevertheless, when we talk about romantic love, there is another factor that we have to consider in the equation, and that is sexual attraction. In extreme cases, this can be so strong, that it could become an addictive practice. Despite this negative aspect, there are many benefits from sexual activity for our mental

and physical health. For example, sex and intimacy reduces stress, anxiety, and muscle pain. Touching and hugging can release your body’s natural “feel-good hormone”. Sex can also boot your self-esteem and happiness, and increase bonding within a relationship. When we talk about love and sex, it is a must to address the topic of control and safety procedures during a sexual encounter. If we don’t talk about this issue openly, we are, in a way, acting against our own health and even our own lives. We must be fully aware of the preventive measures to avoid any sexually transmitted infections, such as venereal
diseases. During a sexual encounter, it is a fact that we don’t know the sexual life of the other person, and that is something that we need to keep always in mind. Control is part of an emotional balance, and we need to learn how to maintain it. We must live healthy and sexual lives. We shall explore, express, and benefit from these feelings, but always assuming the responsibility of our actions.

"¿Cuántas veces me he enamorado?" Esta es una interrogante que muchas veces la gente se plantea. Sin embargo, el amor pocas veces sucede. La ilusión del enamoramiento se confunde con el verdadero amor. El amor es ese sentimiento que te hace reír de nada, que te hace suspirar, que te hace llorar, que te hace volar, que te hace convertirte en un propio mago de muchas situaciones. Bueno, así es, el amor no avisa, no llama; sólo aparece y crece en ti. Pero es a través de la convivencia como se complementa la unión, la confianza y el respeto, base fundamental de toda relación.
En tal sentido, podemos definir el amor como ese sentimiento que mueve, distorsiona situaciones y convulsiona la forma de experimentar la vida. Para evitar confusiones, diremos que existen varios tipos de amor, como el amor a la naturaleza, el amor a Dios, el amor de madre, entre otros. Sin embargo, en el caso del amor de pareja, existe otro factor a considerar, y es la atracción sexual. En casos extremos, ésta puede ser tan fuerte, que puede llegar a ser adictiva, lo cual confunde aún más los sentimientos de amor. Sin embargo, los beneficios de tener relaciones sexuales para nuestro organismo

son incalculables, como por ejemplo, alivia el estrés, reduce la ansiedad y aminora los dolores musculares. Asimismo, el abrazo y el contacto físico nos mantienen vivos, debido a que cuando se produce el acto sexual se liberan hormonas del placer. Nuestra autoestima aumenta y, por ende, mejora el humor y brota la felicidad. Sin embargo, al abordar los temas del amor y el sexo, también debemos hablar de seguridad y control. El tema es tan delicado que si no lo planteamos corremos el riesgo de atentar contra nuestra salud y hasta contra nuestra propia vida. En necesario tomar plena
conciencia de las medidas preventivas contra cualquier tipo de enfermedades contraídas por el contacto sexual, como son las enfermedades venéreas. Durante cualquier encuentro sexual, es un hecho que nadie conoce la vida sexual de la otra persona, y eso hay que tenerlo siempre presente. El control es parte del equilibrio emocional y hay que aprender a mantenerlo. Experimenta este sentimiento, explóralo, exprésalo, vívelo y aprovéchalo.

Isn’t that ironic that professional immigrants are not recognized as professionals until they follow the long and difficult way of legalization. This represents a real obstacle for a person willing to exercise his/her knowledge and expertise in a new country, due to the difficulties that this process represents.
Since the beginning of time, man has established laws that must be followed by everyone in their society. We all know that everything has to travel through these channels. Nevertheless, man himself has always found a way to modify the laws to improve his own condition. The intention, in this case, is not to fight over governments and congresses, but to obtain the benefits that, in this particular case, the labor force of a society could supply to benefit everyone. In this sense, we must stop and rethink the complexity of this reality that is affecting the lives of many immigrants. The reasons why many people immigrate are diverse and numerous. Sometimes those reasons are also decided by the circumstances and not

exactly by the will of the people. Migrating to another country is a very difficult decision to make, and in many cases is based on the opportunities and conditions people encounter in their own countries. Let’s summarize, the United States is a country with an important immigrant population. For this reason, it’s essential to address the situation that many professional immigrants face in this country. It is very sad to see that the value of academic accomplishments in another country is worthless to the United States. If they haven’t initiated or concluded a migratory process, then immigrants have no rights at all. According to some researches, there are many factories that employ many professionals working as blue collar workers,
regardless of their knowledge and expertise in their countries of origin. Honestly, I think some people, considering their professional background, don’t deserve those kinds of jobs, only for the reason of not having the legal documents to certify their studies. In conclusion, on many occasions, immigrants have demonstrated to be more productive than the citizens born in this country (no offense to anyone). In this regard, the Hispanic population can be labeled, no doubt, as a very productive and dynamic work force and a positive output to the culture of this country.

El Valor De Los Profesionistas Inmigrantes En Estados Unidos Por Valentina Marcano, Editado Por Claudia Maguffee
Qué ironía de la vida es ver que a los profesionistas de otros países no los reconozcan como tales en este país, hasta que no concluyan el largo y difícil proceso de revalidar sus estudios y legalizar su estatus migratorio. Estos impedimentos representan, sin duda, un obstáculo para que una persona se desarrolle profesionalmente más allá de sus fronteras.
Desde que el mundo es mundo, existen leyes y normas que cumplir. En tal sentido, sabemos que todo debe funcionar dentro de los canales de la normatividad y de la legalidad. Sin embargo, siempre existen formas de modificar tales leyes. La intención no es violar ni alterar a los gobiernos ni a los congresos, sino simplemente beneficiarnos, en este caso particular, de los aportes que puede dar a la sociedad su capital humano en general. En tal sentido, hay que detenerse por un momento y pensar en la complejidad de esta realidad, la cual está afectando la vida de muchos inmigrantes y de sus familias. Las razones de la migración son múltiples y variadas. A veces se trata de situaciones ajenas a la voluntad de las personas. La decisión

de emigrar es una decisión muy difícil para muchos, y se basa generalmente en las oportunidades y condiciones de vida de los países de origen. Sintetizando un poco, Estados Unidos es un país con una población inmigrante importante. Por ello, vale la pena abordar el tema referente a la situación por la que atraviesan los inmigrantes profesionistas en la actualidad. Es triste ver como no se reconoce el valor de los estudios realizados en otros países. Si no se ha empezado o concluido un proceso migratorio, estos profesionistas no tienen derecho a nada. Según algunas investigaciones, hay muchas fábricas que cuentan con un personal de profesionistas importante, quienes se encuentran trabajando
como obreros o empleados a destajo, sin ser apreciados por sus conocimientos y capacidades. Sinceramente, considero que estas personas, por su preparación profesional, no se merecen ese trato ni esos empleos, simplemente por el hecho de no contar con un estatus legal en el país o con los documentos que avalen sus estudios. En conclusión, la población inmigrante, en muchas ocasiones, ha demostrado ser más productiva que los mismos habitantes nacidos en este país, sin menospreciar a nadie. La población de hispanos, en particular, puede ser valorada, sin duda alguna, por su aporte positivo, emprendedor y calificado que ha beneficiado a la cultura y al país en general.

“Dreamers” is a term used to define those who were brought by their parents to this country illegally, but without taking personal account of their action, since they were only children at the time. Today, they are women and men who received their formal education in the school system of the United States. No matter their countries of origin or nationalities, they should be considered Americans, since they have been immersed in the American culture since their early age. The fact is that they eat, think, and breathe as Americans.
Nevertheless, another journey, as complicated as their first one, starts for them when they reach their adult life. Without legal papers, work permits, and documents to live in this country legally, they can’t enjoy normal productive lives. In order to provide some temporary relief to this problem, in 2012, under the Barack Obama Presidency, the Department of Homeland Security implemented the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. This action was intended to protect thousands

of undocumented young illegal immigrants, and even though it doesn’t provide a legal status, it gives them some relief. The benefits are, among others, a temporary work permit, access to higher education, social security number, and driver’s license. This is time to reflect upon this issue and take action. If in heaven there are no races, colors or other distinctions, and, far less, a Department of Immigration, why are there so many sanctions, laws, and security measures that don’t do anything but limit, control and
destroy innocent human lives. It is time to ask ourselves if we are doing what is correct or implementing the laws correctly. At these times, when we have suffered many catastrophic events, not only in United States, but in other countries in the Caribbean and Latin America, we must meditate and pray for the future of our countries, but most importantly, we should focus, today, and under any circumstance, to do good no matter what.

Soñadores o “Dreamers”, así se les llama a las personas que llegaron a este país de forma ilegal, pero sin tener conciencia de ello, porque sus padres los trajeron a este país cuando eran apenas unos niños. Ellos son ahora, hombres y mujeres que obtuvieron su formación académica en las escuelas de Estados Unidos. Independientemente de su lugar de origen o de su nacionalidad, no son más que americanos no nacidos en este país, pero que se encuentran inmersos en la cultura americana. Comen, piensan y respiran como tales.
Sin embargo, otra travesía igualmente complicada comienza para ellos cuando adquieren la edad adulta. Sin papeles, sin permisos de trabajo y sin documentos para residir legalmente en el país, no pueden desarrollar una vida productiva normal. Para dar una solución a este problema, en el año 2012, durante el periodo presidencial de Barack Obama, el Departamento de Seguridad Nacional creó el programa llamado Acción Diferida para los llegados en la Infancia (DACA, por sus siglas en inglés). Con esta acción, se intentó proteger de la deportación

a miles de jóvenes indocumentados, y aunque no confiere un estatus legal, otorga a los “dreamers” permiso de trabajo temporal, acceso a la educación superior, número de seguro social, licencia de manejo, entre otros beneficios. Es momento de reflexionar y actuar. Si en el cielo no hay razas, colores, distinciones y mucho menos un Departamento de Migración, por qué tantas sanciones, leyes, acciones y medidas que no hacen más que limitar, controlar y destruir el futuro de vidas
inocentes. Es momento de preguntarnos si estamos haciendo lo correcto o gestionando de la manera idónea. En nuestros días, con tantas catástrofes registradas en diferentes zonas de Estados Unidos, el Caribe y Latinoamérica, debemos meditar, hacer una oración y proponernos, ante todo, y bajo cualquier circunstancia, hacer el bien sin mirar a quien.

My interview revealed a sweet, humble, and down to Earth individual who enjoys life to the fullest. Chrissie is caring and genuine in her love for her family and friends. She has a charismatic and fun approach to everything she does in her life. It was a pleasure interviewing this remarkable actress that appears in latest movie, Pitch Perfect 3.
LC: How do you feel dramatic acting has shaped you as a comedian?
you have something that is coming out of a real situation. I think it makes it even funnier.
Fit: Drama is what I started doing in college like Romeo and Juliet. I studied Shakespeare and thought that was going to be my focus. Being exposed to novelas growing up in my household, where my mom watched all the time, were very heavily influenced with drama and the dramatic. Eventually moving out to Los Angeles one of my friends mentioned to me, “You know you’re funny! You should do comedy too.” I replied, “No! I am a dramatic actress.” For some reason I thought that was just more prestigious and harder, but the minute I started doing comedy I realized comedy was just as hard or even harder than drama because there is timing involved. I feel that drama has influenced the comedy that I do because it’s very grounded. I think the funniest moments that happen in life are when you’re in a serious situation and something unexpected happens. So, I think that where drama kind of influences the comedy aspect of what I have been doing, and the comedy that I enjoy, is all rooted in truth. That is what I find funniest. The key jokes we know, we have heard them before, are when
LC: What influences your comedy?

Fit: Oh my goodness! I am like a bank sometimes. I’ll find something funny or someone will say something funny and I lock it in. Since I also like to write, I just try to keep those moments in my brain. My family is a big force of inspiration. My mom is so funny and she doesn’t even know it! You know what I mean? She’s just living her life, being herself, and says the most absurd things without knowing. My dad is hilarious too. In our house we just have fun all the time. The improv that I’ve done is also very liberating to just do it and not over think it while pulling from a place where you’re inspired. I think those are kind of my inspirations. I’m just very observant and pay attention to the people and the things around me, but my family is pretty good source. LC: How do you de-stress with such a busy career and lifestyle? Fit: I’ve always been active. I was a cheerleader when I was younger. I was always playing outside. I am very fortunate that in Los
Angeles we have a lot of places to go hiking where it’s just about an hour to travel. Sometimes we are so stuck behind our computers and our technology that we don’t appreciate the beauty that is around us. So I really love to go hiking. I also started meditating which is really hard for someone like me who always wants to be on the go, moving, and doing stuff. I have an app called Calm that I use in the morning where I concentrate and try not and think of the million things that I have to do. I just focus and center myself. It was so hard! The first week I was telling myself, “I don’t know how I can do this!” Now I crave those 10 minutes to just listen to the ocean or whatever is on the app; to just zone out, refuel, recharge, and take on the day. The app has a variation of mediations and ways to be calm especially now in a world full of things that agitate us. But I like hiking, pilates, and yoga. I don’t necessarily like to lift weights, although that is the best source to continue to burn calories throughout the day. I know the benefits of it, but I like to just to do resistance training with pilates which is great for you too.

LC: How healthy or unhealthy do you eat? Fit: I will admit when I first moved to Los Angeles I, literally, didn’t even know what asparagus was! In my mind I was like, “What’s asparagus?!” I’m from a traditional Cuban household where we ate rice and beans, meat, and platanitos. Everything was a lot of carbs! Like I said, I was always active so my metabolism was pretty fast. But I didn’t know about eating healthy. The longer I’ve been out here and learning about that, I now eat quinoa and kale. I still like my Cuban food, my rice and beans and all that stuff, but now I like to meal prep due to my busy schedule. If I know that I have food, and healthy food at home, I’ll eat that as opposed to going out and eating something that is probably not healthy for you. At the beginning I felt like I didn’t have time to meal prep, but if you take like 2 hours on a Sunday you actually save time during the week without having to prepare something everyday or go out and get something. You have this healthy plan for the week and it’s been so helpful. LC: How do you maintain grounded? Fit: I am who I am. Take it or leave it. I’m a good person and I feel like I don’t need to have all these things. I’m very humble and down to Earth. I think it comes from, obviously, my family and my upbringing. We didn’t have that much so we just chose to be happy with what we had. It never mattered about the material things and all that stuff. My friends are the most incredible people. I surround myself with good and positive people that lift you up and don’t bring you down, and don’t think that things are a competition. There is enough of that going on in the world so you need to surround yourself with good. I also volunteer a lot with kids. I think kids are the best and the most honest which really brings out the best side of me. They’re just so pure and good. So that keeps me really grounded working with young storytellers and getting to see and help kids be creative. I also don’t take myself seriously, honestly, what we’re doing is so much fun and it hopefully brings joy to people. So you can’t take yourself too seriously, you can’t believe all the negative things that people say, but you can’t also believe you’re the best and you’re a queen. You know what I mean? I’m a normal person who gets to do this as a job and I hope I inspire you to be a good person too.

clap for me, encouraging me, and my mom would be up late making costumes for my shows. My dad would have his video camera filming me. It was always such a supportive place to be creative that I never thought, “Oh this is a crazy dream.” which maybe I should have - a little bit. I mean it was the best, because I came out to California with their blessing and with their encouragement. They were helpful in getting me on my feet here. Ever since my dad has self proclaimed himself my number one fan, and then my mom says that she’s my number one fan. So they have a competition on who’s my number one fan. They are so cute and so wonderful. My dad is on my Twitter and Instagram and he will call me say, “Do you know that this is happening and you should audition?” And my mom still thinks that I should go up to Andy Garcia and say, “Hey Andy I’m Cuban, like let’s do a movie together.” So funny! I’m like, “Oh my God mom you are so hilarious.” But, yea, they’re the best and I don’t know how I would do it without them because they’re just the coolest and most supportive parents ever. LC: How many siblings do you have?
LC: How does your family support you?
Fit: I have a brother, Kristian Micheal, who is just 13 months younger than I am. So I guess Irish twins is what they say? We used to be dressed alike as kids. He hated it, and I loved it. We are so close and he is probably one of the most talented people I know. He will play a song on the piano by ear, so musically inclined, and makes beats. He’s a nurse, giving, and wonderful. You know I always thought that he would go into the arts too, but he said that was for me. He always has my back. I am so close to my family and I love them so much.
Fit: I am so lucky and grateful that I have the parents that I do. From the age of 5 when I started dancing at the family party, they would
LC: How does your brother feel about your fame? Do his friends try to meet you through him?

Fit: He’s had some of that happen, but he’s also so funny because he’s pretty private. He’s like, “Chris just don’t tag me on your Instagram.” He’d get a bunch of followers or people asking him about me. He would just tell me, “Don’t do it.” He’s super, super private and so is my mom. I think that’s the coolest thing because none of my family members really want to be a part of that fame. LC: Tell us about Temp(orary) on WhoHaHa? Where did the idea come from?
Fit: A little over a year ago I sat down with Elizabeth Banks. She was very supportive and said, “I know you write as well let’s do something together.” I was so grateful to have a friend that has been in the business for as long as she has and is so respected, not just as an actress, but as a producer too. She’s really invested in helping women in comedy. You know that’s why WhoHaHa even came to be. It’s a platform for funny women because we don’t have that you know? Notoriously people think that women are not as funny as men - which is so wrong! She’s taken on that initiative and helping young and up and coming female comedians. We threw around a couple of ideas and since it takes a while to get funding and the time to get the green light, I had already started working on Pitch Perfect 3. So we went back and forth and decided that I would write, with my writing partner Cyrina Fiallo, while I was filming. We were in between takes and I would go back to like my cast chair, get on my computer, write some stuff, send it to Cyrina, and then send it to our producers. I would then get notes so it was like this crazy kind of time. The girls were so supportive and helpful. I would go to Anna Kendrick and ask, “Is this funny?” She was like, “Well what if you do this?” We were all helping each other out. It was such a great environment to be creative since we were already being creative on set. It The New American Reality
was also hard because there was not a lot of time since it took a week to film 4 episodes. I got to the set, had a costume fitting, and went into shooting. It was so much fun to be able to see something that you wrote on paper come to life, and see it on the screen. It was one of those really important moments and a big learning experience as far as like creating and producing. It was a different idea originally and then we had to change it to this temp job and it was even better. You know sometimes there are such happy accidents that happen, because there was a bigger world to explore with the characters having to go an do temp jobs to find out what they want to do and what their passion is about. LC: How close are you to Elizabeth Banks and do you consider her a mentor? Fit: Yes most definitely. She’s been so helpful and so encouraging. You know she just doesn’t talk the talk; she walks the walk. She wants to help and she does. She’s been supportive of me since the beginning including my Pitch Perfect 2 auditions. She was a big cheerleader for me and I will never forget that. She just found me funny! I will never forget the one time on the set of Pitch Perfect 2, I was improvising (it was a fun time when we have that freedom sometimes, and I was pretty new so I didn’t get to do it as much as I did on the third one) making some of the producers laugh and one of the male producers said, “Wow! Who would’ve thought you were that funny?” I don’t think he meant it in a bad way because I hadn’t been improvising that much. Elizabeth right away turned around and said, “I did! I knew she was that funny!” It was awesome because I knew in that moment that she had my back. She doesn’t just say she has my back; she like has my back! And so it’s a moment I will never forget. I don’t even know if she knows that I caught that, but I did. She’s not just a friend, but a mentor. I think I can call her, talk to her, email her, and ask her a question and she is always there. I’m like really, really lucky to have such a talented and wonderful person in my corner. LC: Are you still active with your sorority, Alpha Xi Delta? Fit: Not as much because I’m in Los Angeles but when I was in Miami we had like a little get together. The new sisters came and we hung out. It was really awesome to have that community as well. So hopefully we can get together again because it’s always a good time. LC: What kind of music do you listen to? Fit: I really run the gamut. I love and appreciate all music. I definitely like the

old kind of vibe like Ella Fitzgerald or Billie Holiday. That really makes me feel happy. I don’t know why but I love all that kind of music like Frank Sinatra and I love Amy Winehouse. I think she has such a throwback feel. You can feel every emotion in the song. I don’t necessarily care about who sings the highest, the loudest, and the most runs and all that stuff. I think the reason I like the music of that era is because they weren’t showing off; they were just telling a story. You know and you can feel the emotions in the lyrics, in the words. LC: How is your dream of recording an album coming along? You had previously mentioned that you would love to collaborate with Pitbull, any luck in contacting him to record a song? Fit: Yeah that’s kind of been on the back burner because of the movie. Although if Pitbull called me tomorrow I would be like “Let’s do this!” Gente de Zona - I would love to collaborate with some of these people, especially that are from my hometown, recording something in English and Spanish. I think that would be so much fun. But now you remind me about it, Pitbull has collaborated with everyone! He can collaborate with me! That’s just how I feel! LC: Is there any other artist you have not met that you would like to? Fit: I think like most people say Meryl Streep, because she is just acting royalty. If I met her I would freak out! I’d try to hold it in, but I would be silently freaking out. I don’t know? I’m so lucky that in Pitch Perfect I get to work with so many incredibly talented and funny women like Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, and Brittany Snow. They are just so incredible! Yeah, definitely Meryl Streep any of the A-list actors like Robert DeNiro, Al Pacino, Dustin Hoffman, and anyone on Game of Thrones. Let’s get real! LC: Are there any causes you are involved with? Fit: Every month I have donations going to organizations like ACLU, Planed Parenthood, and that kind of stuff. It’s really important especially now to support these organizations that are supporting us. I’m trying to find a charity to work and dedicate more time with that helps kids, especially young girls. We need to invest in our youth and also in our young girls because it’s the utmost importance. Whenever I have free time I do work with young storytellers and 5th graders. We help set-up plays that they have written, and see the joy on their faces when the words they
wrote come to life. Really cool! It’s really overwhelming right now because there are so many things and people and places that need help. As I do research to see where I want to put more attention towards. I think that small acts of kindness everyday makes a difference even when it seems impossible. For example, I just saw this video of this man who lives in a community where all the trees died. It was just horrible! Everyday he, since 1979, planted a seed and now it’s a forest. Their jungle has grown back again and there are animals, like rhinos and tigers, coming back to this area. I thought to myself, “Oh my God! One guy did this!” This is so amazing you know? LC: Tell us about the movie, “Pitch Perfect 3”. Fit: The Barden Bellas are all back in this movie without the Treblemakers. The girls are all out of college and trying to figure out what life is after performing in an acapella group. So you will get to see their adventures after graduating from Barden University. I’m excited for people to see Pitch Perfect 3 because we had a really great time doing it. I get to sing words in this one where I basically did the base line in the last one. It was awesome to get to do another movie with all your close friends. We are all really good friends and enjoy working with each other. Everyone is so talented! Every actress just knows their character, knows the situation, and even as absurd as the situations get we are part of this family. We would have 16 hour days sometimes always together essentially and then on the weekends we’d still be like, “What do ya’ wanna do?” We’d always hang out and from the beginning of this movie we made it a point to, not just work together, but experience things together. We would go bowling and skating. After we finished filming, we went on a vacation together to Cabo. I think that’s what you see on screen. It’s not forced, it’s not fake we’re all actually friends. The girls all have our own relationships with each other, and then as a group. So we have the best times filming these movies. I think we would make them until the Bellas are at a nursing home. LC: Do you think about writing a book? Fit: Yeah, maybe that would be so much fun. There would be so many different stories that I can tell about my family and Miami. That would be really fun, but I know it’s a lot of work. I talked to Anna Kendrick about it, and it’s a little grueling. It also seems like such a wonderful experience. She said she had a great experience writing her book. Yeah, basically, I want to be Anna Kendrick!

Chrissie no es simplemente una actriz con una cara bonita. Más allá de eso, Chrissie es una mujer joven con una carrera impresionante y con una experiencia considerable en la industria cinematográfica. Realmente, fue un placer haber tenido la oportunidad de entrevistar a esta destacada actriz, cuya actuación podremos disfrutar este mes de diciembre, en la película Pitch Perfect 3.
LC: ¿De qué manera el arte dramático te ha moldeado como comediante?

Fit: Yo comencé con actuación dramática en la universidad, con obras clásicas como Romeo y Julieta. Cuando estudié la obra de Shakespeare, pensé que ése iba a ser mi centro de atención. Por otra parte, las telenovelas fueron una influencia importante para mí, debido a su carga melodramática, ya que mi mamá las veían todo el tiempo en mi hogar. Sorpresivamente, cuando me mudé de Los Ángeles, un día uno de mis amigos me comentó: “¿sabes que eres muy graciosa? ¡Deberías también hacer comedia!” Entonces le respondí: “¡No! Yo soy una actriz dramática”. Por alguna razón pensé que la actuación dramática era más prestigiosa y más difícil, pero en el instante en que comencé a hacer comedia, me di cuenta que ésta era tan difícil o quizá más difícil que el drama, debido al manejo del tempo-ritmo que implica. Siento que el drama ha influenciado la comedia que hago porque se mantiene en la tierra. Curiosamente, los momentos más cómicos en la vida suceden en las situaciones de mayor seriedad, cuando algo inesperado sucede. El drama, de alguna manera, ha influenciado la comedia que hago, y la comedia que me divierte, toda tiene sus raíces en la realidad. Eso es lo que encuentro más divertido. LC: ¿Cuáles son las principales influencias de tu comedia?

Fit: ¡Ay, dios mío! Algunas veces soy como un banco. Si encuentro algo gracioso o alguien dice algo chistoso, me lo apropio. Como además me gusta escribir, trato de grabar esos momentos en mi mente. Sin embargo, podría decir que mi familia es una fuente importante de inspiración. Mi mamá es muy graciosa, sin siquiera darse cuenta de ello. Sabes a lo que me refiero. Ella sólo vive su vida, es ella misma, y dice las cosas más cómicas sin tener conciencia de ello. Mi papá es igualmente gracioso. En la casa todos nos divertimos sin parar. La improvisación que hago es muy liberadora. Simplemente la hago sin preocuparme en pensar de dónde viene. Pienso que esas son mis inspiraciones. Yo soy simplemente una persona muy observadora y pongo atención a la gente y a las cosas que están al mi alrededor, pero mi familia es, definitivamente, una influencia vital en mi trabajo como comediante. LC: Con un estilo de vida tan demandante, ¿de qué manera te relajas? Fit: Siempre he sido muy activa. Cuando era más joven era porrista. Siempre estaba afuera, jugando. Actualmente, en Los Ángeles, tengo
la fortuna de contar con muchos lugares a donde hacer caminatas, que sólo nos quedan a una hora de distancia. Muchas veces estamos tan atados a nuestras computadoras y a nuestra tecnología, que dejamos de apreciar la belleza que está a nuestro alrededor. Por eso, a mí me encanta hacer caminatas. Incluso comencé a hacer meditación, lo cual es muy difícil para una persona como yo, que siempre va de un lugar a otro, que siempre está en constante movimiento y que tiene múltiples ocupaciones. Por las mañanas utilizo una aplicación que se llama “Calm”, la cual me ha ayudado a concentrarme y a no pensar en las miles de cosas que tengo que hacer. Realmente, me ayuda a enfocarme y a centrarme en mi misma. Pero, sabes, fue muy difícil lograrlo. La primera semana me decía: “no sé cómo podré lograr esto”. Ahora, anhelo esos 10 minutos que dedico sólo a escuchar el mar o cualquier otro sonido que esté en la aplicación; sólo para apartarme, recargarme, y tomar en mis manos mi día. Esta aplicación tiene una variación de meditaciones y formas de calmarse, especialmente necesarias en estos tiempos llenos de situaciones que nos agitan. Lo que realmente hago y disfruto es salir de caminata, y practicar Pilates y yoga. No me gusta tanto levantar pesas, aunque es una manera esencial para quemar calorías durante el día. Fit: Debo admitir que cuando me mudé a Los Ángeles, yo, literalmente, ni siquiera sabía que eran los espárragos. En mi mente me preguntaba: ¿qué son los espárragos? Vengo de una familia cubana tradicional, en donde nuestra dieta consiste en arroz, frijoles, carne y platanitos. Todo con un contenido alto en carbohidratos. Como mencioné, siempre he sido una persona muy activa, por eso mi metabolismo era acelerado, pero no sabía lo que significaba comer saludablemente. Conforme transcurrió mi vida aquí, comencé a aprender acerca de la importancia de una dieta saludable. Ahora como quínoa y col verde. Aún disfruto mi comida cubana, mi arroz y frijoles, y todo lo demás, pero, debido a mi horario tan ocupado, prefiero comer comida precocinada. Es muy sencillo, si tengo comida en casa, y comida sana, comeré eso en vez de salir a comer algo que probablemente no sea del todo saludable. En un principio pensé que no tendría tiempo para preparar la comida de toda la semana, pero si dedicas dos horas de tu domingo realmente ahorras tiempo, ya que no tienes que preocuparte por preparar algo cada día o salir a comer. Contar con un plan saludable de comida ha sido de suma ayuda para mí. LC: ¿Qué haces para mantenerte con los pies en la tierra? Fit: Yo soy quien soy. Tómalo o déjalo. Me considero una buena persona, independientemente de todo. Soy una persona humilde y con los pies en la tierra. Pienso que esto viene, obviamente, de mi familia y de mi educación. Nosotros no teníamos mucho, así que sólo elegimos ser felices con lo que teníamos. Nunca nos importaron mucho las cosas materiales, ni todo eso. Mis amigos son personas increíbles. Me he rodeado de personas buenas y positivas que te levantan en vez de hundirte, y que no piensan que todo es competencia. Ya hay mucho de eso en el mundo. Así que tienes que rodearte de cosas buenas. También hago trabajo voluntario con niños. Pienso que los niños son las personas más honestas y buenas, y que en verdad sacan lo mejor de mí. Simplemente son tan puros. Esto me mantiene con los pies en la tierra. Actualmente trabajo con jóvenes narradores y me encanta ayudarlos a desarrollar su creatividad. Tampoco me tomo las cosas tan en serio, honestamente, lo que hacemos es tan divertido y creo que trae alegría a la gente. No te puedes tomar las cosas tan en serio. Por ejemplo, no puedes creerte todas las cosas negativas que la gente dice, pero tampoco debes creer que tú eres la mejor y que eres una reina. Sabes a lo que me refiero. LC: ¿De qué manera te apoya tu familia? Fit: He tenido la suerte de tener a los padres que tengo. Desde que tenía 5 años, cuando comencé a bailar en las fiestas familiares, me aplaudían, me animaban. Mi mamá siempre se desvelaba haciendo el vestuario para mis shows. Mi papá tenía su videocámara para filmarme. Su apoyo incondicional propició el lugar perfecto para desarrollar mi creatividad. Por ello, nunca pensé: “éste es sólo un sueño”. Aunque ahora pienso que lo debí pensar, por lo menos un poco. Yo llegué a California con la bendición y el apoyo de mis padres. Ellos fueron el pilar para que yo llegara a este lugar. Desde entonces, mi papá se autoproclama mi fan número uno, entonces mi mamá dice: “no, yo soy tu fan número uno”. Así que ellos compiten por saber quién es mi fan número uno. ¡Son tan adorables y tan maravillosos! Mi papá está en mis cuentas de Twitter e Instagram, y siempre me dice: “sabes que se va a llevar a cabo tal audición, y que deberías de participar”. Y mi mamá aún piensa que debo buscar a Andy García para decirle: “Hola Andy, soy cubana, vamos a hacer una película juntos”. Muy chistoso. Yo le digo, por dios mami, eres muy ocurrente. Pero si, ellos son lo mejor, y no sé cómo hubiera tenido todos estos logros sin ellos, porque ellos son, simplemente, los padres más maravillosos del mundo. LC: ¿Cuántos hermanos tienes? Fit: Tengo un hermano, Kristian Micheal, que es sólo 13 meses más joven que yo. Creo que se dice “mellizos irlandeses”, por la proximidad en las fechas de nacimiento. De niños nos solían vestir de la misma manera. A él le fastidiaba, pero a mí me encantaba. Somos muy cercanos, y creo que él es una de las personas más talentosas que conozco. Es capaz de tocar una canción en el piano sólo de oído, tiene una fuerte inclinación musical, y tiene mucho ritmo. Es enfermero, se dedica a ayudar a la gente. ¡Es maravilloso! Pensé que el también se dedicaría a las artes, pero dijo que eso era para mí. El siempre contará con mi apoyo. Tengo una relación muy cercana con mi familia. ¡Los amo tanto! LC: ¿Cómo asimila tu hermano tu fama? ¿Sus amigos hacen el intento de conocerte a través de él?
Fit: Algunas veces ha sucedido. Pero él también es muy gracioso, porque es una persona muy celosa de su privacidad. Me dice: “Chris, sólo no me etiquetes en el Instagram”. En ocasiones, cuando sus contactos le preguntaban acerca de mí, él les respondía: por favor, no lo hagas. Él es una persona que cuida mucho su privacidad, igual que mi mamá. Pienso que esto tiene su lado positivo, porque nadie en mi familia realmente quiere ser parte de lo que implica la fama. LC: Háblanos un poco de Temp(orary), en WhoHaHa. ¿De dónde surgió la idea? Fit: Hace aproximadamente un año, me senté a conversar con Elizabeth Banks. Ella siempre me ha apoyado. Así, un buen día me dijo: “Sé que también escribes. Vamos a hacer algo juntas”. Agradezco tener una amiga que ha estado en la industria por tanto tiempo, y que es muy respetada, no sólo como actriz, sino también como productora. Realmente ha invertido su tiempo en ayudar a las mujeres comediantes. Ese fue el inició de WhoHaHa. Se trata de una plataforma para mujeres, porque, supuestamente, no tenemos “eso que se necesita”. (Generalmente, se piensa que las mujeres no son tan cómicas como los hombres –lo cual es un grave error-). Elizabeth ha tomado la iniciativa de ayudar a las mujeres comediantes jóvenes. Hablamos de algunas ideas, pero como generalmente toma tiempo obtener un financiamiento, para así tener la luz verde para comenzar, llegó el Proyecto de Pitch Perfect 3. Ante está situación, llegamos a la conclusión de que yo escribiría, con mi socia, la escritora Cyrina Fiallo, mientras se hacía la filmación de la película. Entre toma y toma, según lo planeado, me dirigiría a mi silla, tomaría mi computadora, escribiría algo, lo enviaría a Cyrina, para después enviárselo a nuestros productores. Entonces tomaría notas, así sería esta loca organización del tiempo. Mis compañeras me apoyaron durante este lapso. A veces me dirigía a Anna Kendrick para preguntarle: ¿te parece que esto es gracioso? Entonces me decía: “¿por qué no haces esto? Nos ayudábamos las unas a las otras. Fue un gran medio para ser creativa, ya que ya éramos creativas desde el set. Esto fue duro, considerando que no teníamos mucho tiempo, ya que nos tomó una semana en filmar 4 episodio. Iba al set, me median mi vestuario, y de ahí me dirigía directo a la filmación. Fue tan divertido ver que algo que tu escribiste en un papel, se volvía tangible, y se podía ver en la

Español pantalla. Fue uno de esos grandes momentos y una experiencia maravillosa de aprendizaje, en lo que se refiere a crear y producir. En un principio la idea fue diferente, pero tuvimos que cambiarla por la de trabajos temporales, y resultó mejor. Sabes, hay veces que suceden estos felices accidentes, porque había un mundo más grande que explorar con estos personajes, que tenían que hacer trabajos temporales para saber lo que querían hacer y para descubrir su pasión en la vida. LC: ¿Qué tan cercana es tu relación con Elizabeth Banks? ¿La consideras tu mentora? Fit: Si, definitivamente. Ella ha sido de gran ayuda y apoyo en mi carrera. Sabes, ella no es de las personas que sólo hablan por hablar, ella, literalmente, camina el camino. Le gusta ayudar, y lo hace. Ella me ha apoyado desde un principio, inclusive durante mis audiciones de Pitch Perfect 2. Ella me echaba muchas porras, y eso nunca lo voy a olvidar. También descubrió mi lado cómico. Siempre voy a recordar una ocasión cuando, en el set de Pitch Perfect 2, estaba improvisando (era divertido cuando teníamos esa libertad; yo era nueva, así que no lo hacía tanto como en la tercera película), e hice a algunos de los productores reír. Entonces, uno de ellos dijo: “wow, quién hubiera pensado que serías tan graciosa!”. No creo que lo haya dicho de una mala manera, porque no había hecho muchas improvisaciones. Elizabeth inmediatamente se volteó, y dijo: “Yo lo sabía. Yo sí sabía que era muy cómica”. Fue increíble, porque en ese momento supe que contaba con su apoyo. Ella no dice simplemente tiene mi apoyo, sino ella es el apoyo. Ese fue un momento que nunca podré olvidar. Ni siquiera sé si ella se dio cuenta que yo capté el sentido de sus palabras, pero así fue. Ella no es sólo una amiga para mí, es mi mentora. Creo que puedo hablarle, escribirle y preguntarle algo, y ella siempre estará ahí. Soy muy afortunada de tener a una persona tan talentosa y maravilloso a mi lado. LC: ¿Aún participas en tu hermandad Alpha Xi Delta? Fit: No tanto, porque vivo en Los Ángeles. Cuando estuve en Miami tuvimos una reunión. Las nuevas hermanas llegaron y las abrazamos. Fue maravilloso contar también con esa comunidad. Espero poder reunirme con ellas nuevamente, porque siempre pasamos un tiempo maravilloso. LC: ¿Qué tipo de música escuchas? Fit: Recorro todo el espectro. Amo y aprecio toda la música. Aunque, definitivamente, me gusta la vibra de las canciones antiguas, como la de Ella Fitzgerald y Billy Holiday. Su música siempre me hace sentir feliz. Creo que la razón por la cual me gusta la música de aquellas épocas es porque entonces a los cantantes o a los músicos no les importaba exhibirse; sólo les importaba decir una historia. Realmente puedes sentir las emociones en las letras, en las palabras… LC: ¿Hay algún avance respecto a tu sueño de grabar un álbum? En alguna ocasión mencionaste que te encantaría grabar un disco con Pitbull. Has establecido contacto con él con este propósito? Fit: En realidad, este proyecto ha quedado un poco rezagado debido a la película. Sin embrago, si Pitbull me llamara mañana, yo le diría sin pensarlo, vamos a hacer esto. Gente de zona. Me encantaría trabajar con alguna de estas personas, especialmente porque son de mi ciudad natal; me gustaría grabar algo tanto en inglés como en español. Creo que eso sería muy divertido. Pero ahora que me lo mencionas, Pitbull ha colaborado con todos. Podría colaborar conmigo. Sería genial. LC: ¿A qué artista te gustaría conocer? Fit: Como muchos opinan, creo que a Meryl Streep, por su lugar de realeza en el campo de la actuación. Aunque si la conociera, no sabría qué hacer. No sé. Tengo la fortuna de trabajar con muchas mujeres talentosas y cómicas, como Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, y Brittany Snow. Son increíbles. Volviendo a tu pregunta, sí, definitivamente, Meryl Streep y cualquiera de los actores de primera lista, como Robert DeNiro, Al Pacino, Dustin Hoffman, o a los protagonistas de Game of Thrones. Hay que ser realistas. LC: ¿Participas en alguna organización de beneficencia? Fit: Cada mes, hago donaciones a organizaciones como ACLU, Planes Parenthood, y otras similares. Es muy importante apoyar a estas organizaciones que ya están trabajando. Actualmente, estoy tratando de encontrar una organización de beneficencia que se dedique a ayudar a los jóvenes, especialmente a las jovencitas. Debemos invertir en nuestra juventud, especialmente en las jóvenes, por su importancia fundamental. Siempre que tengo un tiempo libre, hago trabajo con jóvenes narradores y con niños de 5 grado. Ayudamos a hacer los montajes de lo que han escrito. Disfruto ver la alegría en sus ojos cuando las palabras que escribieron se llenan de vida. ¡Es muy reconfortante! Por el otro lado, esta tarea puede resultar abrumadora, ya que hay mucha gente, en diferentes lugares que necesitan ayuda. Hay mucho que hacer. De eso me doy
cuenta cuando investigo en dónde quiero enfocar mi atención. Pienso que los actos pequeños y de bondad hacen la diferencia, inclusive cuando parecen imposibles. Por ejemplo, acabo de ver un video de un hombre que vive en una comunidad en donde todos los árboles mueren. ¡Fue horrible! Sin embargo, cada día, desde 1979, él se dedicó a plantar una semilla, y ahora ya tiene un bosque. La selva se ha reconstruido y ya hay animales, como rinocerontes y tigres, que han regresado a habitar esta área. Entonces, me dije: “¡dios mío, un solo hombre hizo todo esto!” Sabes, es algo realmente extraordinario, LC: Háblanos de la película Pitch Perfect 3 Fit: Las Barden Bellas regresan en esta película sin los Treblemakers. Las jóvenes ya han salido de la universidad y tratan de imaginar qué tipo de vida hay para ellas después de haber participado en un grupo de a capela. Así que en esta película verán sus aventuras después de graduarse de Barden University. Estoy tan emocionada de pensar que la gente va a ver Pitch Perfect 3, ya que realmente nos divertimos mucho en hacerla. En esta película canto algunas letras, cuando en la anterior básicamente participe sólo en la línea de bajo. Fue una experiencia extraordinaria volver a trabajar con mis amigas cercanas. En verdad, somos muy buenas amigas y nos encanta trabajar juntas. Todas son muy talentosas. Cada una conoce su personaje a fondo, conoce la situación, y aunque la situación parezca absurda, actuamos como parte de una familia, apoyándonos mutuamente. En ocasiones trabajábamos 16 horas por día, siempre juntas, y en los fines de semana decíamos: ¿qué quieren hacer? Desde el principio de esta película hicimos el propósito de no sólo trabajar juntas, sino de experimentar cosas juntas. Salíamos al boliche o a patinar. Después de haber terminado de filmar la película, nos fuimos de vacaciones a Cabo. Creo que eso es lo que se ve en la película. No es algo forzado, ni falso, realmente todas nosotras somos amigas. Todas tenemos una relación particular con cada una y con el grupo. En verdad, disfrutamos realmente hacer esta película. Creo que las podríamos seguir haciendo hasta que las Bellas estén en el asilo. LC: Piensas escribir un libro Fit: Sí, creo que eso sería muy divertido. Hay tantas historias que podría escribir acerca de mi familia y de Miami. Sería muy divertido, pero sé que se trata de un trabajo que implica un gran compromiso. Hable con Anna Kendrick acerca de esto, y es algo verdaderamente demandante. When The United States of America became its own sovereign nation the only people privileged enough to gain from the ideal of Democracy that built our country were male, Protestant, caucasian landowners. The road to making the voting process universal has been multilayered and wrought with setbacks. When Thomas Jefferson wrote, “all men are created equal� in the U. S. Declaration of Independence the argument is that he meant all humanity, however in the original American society, not even all men were equal.
The United States, in essence, was created to be a safe haven where people could be free to live as themselves. The Constitution as written by James Madison is the law of this land and contained within are all of the "God-given" rights we as Americans but more importantly we as humans are entitled to have. At the root of all this is our intrinsic right to choice. The Constitution was ratified in 1787 however; it was not until 83 years later in 1870 that the 15th Amendment which protected the voting rights of all American men no matter, "race, color, or previous condition of servitude". It
took 133 years from the original Constitution for women to be able to have the right to vote. It took 177 years for poll taxes to be removed making voting a free natural-born right. It was a long, hard, 184-year fight to win suffrage for all American adults. Today most of us take our right to vote for granted it is easy, something we have always had ensured by being born in this country. But Voting Rights are constantly under attack. According to the American Civil Liberties Union in the year between 2011 and 2012 alone, "27 measures were passed or implemented in 19 states that make it harder
to vote". Voting has been a heavily discussed topic in the media recently, the heated debate over the legality of voting practices of both the government and the public. American citizens under the Constitution have the right to vote in any election no matter their socioeconomic background, education, employment or even voter inactivity as long as they are a legal adult. In the Democratic Republic, your vote is your voice knowing your rights is the only way to ensure that you are being heard.

Cuando Estados Unidos de Norteamérica se convirtió en una nación soberana, las únicas personas que se privilegiaron de los ideales de la Democracia, fundamento de nuestro país, fueron los hombres de raza caucásica, protestantes y propietarios de tierra. El proceso de hacer del voto un derecho universal tiene varias etapas y ha sufrido de múltiples tropiezos. Cuando Thomas Jefferson escribió: “Todos los hombres son iguales”, en la Declaración de Independencia de Estados Unidos, se refería, según argumentaciones generales, a toda la humanidad. De cualquier manera, es importante subrayar que en la sociedad americana original, no todos los hombres eran considerados iguales.
Estados Unidos, en esencia, fue concebido como un refugio, en donde las personas podrían gozar del privilegio de tener la libertad de vivir según su elección. La Constitución, tal y como fue escrita por James Madison, es la ley de este territorio y contenida en ella están todos los derechos “divinos” que nosotros, como americanos, pero más importante, como seres humanos, podemos disfrutar. En la raíz de todo está nuestro derecho intrínseco de elegir. La Constitución fue ratificada en 1787, sin embargo, no fue sino hasta 1870, 83 años después, cuando la Decimoquinta Enmienda a la Constitución logra establecer el derecho al voto para todos los ciudadanos americanos, sin importar la “raza, color, o condición
previa de servidumbre”. Asimismo, tomó 133 años posteriores a la promulgación de la Constitución original, para que las mujeres adquirieran el derecho al voto; y 177, para que los impuestos para votar fueran removidos, haciendo de las votaciones un derecho natural. Se trata de una lucha larga e intensa de 184 años hasta haber obtenido el derecho al sufragio para todos los ciudadanos americanos adultos. Hoy en día, todos damos por sentado nuestro derecho al voto, algo de lo que, asumimos, siempre hemos gozado por el simple hecho de ser ciudadanos americanos. Recientemente, el derecho al voto ha sido un tópico muy discutido en los medios, el fuerte debate cuestiona la legalidad de las prácticas de votación tanto del gobierno como de la sociedad civil. Los ciudadanos americanos, bajo la Constitución, tienen el derecho al voto sin importar su condición socioeconómica, educación, empleo o, inclusive, inactividad como votante; tan sólo deben comprobar tener una edad adulta para ejercer su derecho al voto. En una República Democrática, tu voto es tu voz. Conocer tus derechos como votante es la única manera de asegurar que tu voz será escuchada.

Festive Rice From the kitchen of Pedro Fernandez
Ingredients:
Preparation:
2 cups of vegetable stock
5. Heat a skillet over medium heat. Add the 1. Re-heat the vegetable stock over medium heat almonds and stir until they turn golden. Don’t until it breaks to a boil. Season with salt to taste. let them burn. 2. Heat the oil over low heat in a pot. Add the rice 6. Uncover the rice, and add the almonds. Mix and stir for about 3 minutes. The rice should them well. change a bit in color but don’t let it burn.
2 teaspoons of salt 3 tablespoons of oil (soy, corn or peanut) 3 cups of rice 1 cup of blonde and dark raisins mixed 1 cup of chopped almonds Bacon to taste
3. Add the vegetable stock and stir.
7. Chop the bacon and add it to the rice.
4. Cook over very low heat for 20 minutes.
8. Serve immediately. Decorate with some herbs.

Arroz para Fiestas De la cocina de Pedro Fernández
Ingredientes:
Preparación:
2 tazas de caldo de vegetales
1. Sazona el caldo de vegetales con sal al gusto. Calienta a fuego lento hasta que empiece a hervir.
2 cucharaditas de sal 3 cucharadas de aceite (soya, maíz o maní)
1 taza de almendras picadas
2. En una hoya calienta el aceite a fuego lento. Agrega el arroz y mueve constantemente por tres minutos, hasta que el arroz cambie de tono. No lo dejes quemar.
Tocino al gusto
3. Agrega el caldo de vegetales. Remueve el arroz.
Hierbas
4. Cuece a fuego medio bajo, removiendo cada dos o tres minutos. Cuando el agua se haya evaporado, agrega las pasas y mézclalas bien. Tapa y cuece a fuego lento por 20 minutos.

5. Calienta un sartén a fuego medio. 6. Agrega las almendras y revuelve hasta que se tornen dorados. No las dejes quemar. 7. Destapa el arroz y agrega las almendras. Mézclalas bien. 8. Pica el tocino en trozos e incorpóralo al arroz. 9. Sirve de inmediato. Adórnalo con hierbas.
