The wealth of Latitude 22N is in Julie & Jesse’s backgrounds and histories. A couple in life and at work, the duo’s Swiss, American and Hong Kong heritage as well as their experience in textile, product, graphic design and fine arts is distinctly reflected in their approach to design and has quickly become their signature.
Named Latitude, to reflect the diversity of cultures and geographic locations of our team and collaborative partners, and 22N for the latitude of our home, Hong Kong, we offer a line of porcelain home wares lovingly crafted under latitude 29N in Jingdezhen, the porcelain capital of China, and latitude 21N in a small village of Northern Vietnam.
Julie was born and raised in Hong Kong by her Swiss parents before heading to Paris to study textile design, and then to New York to explore product design. After a few years working in New York, she came back to her Hong Kong roots in 2008 to launch Latitude 22N with Jesse. Spending most of her life in Hong Kong has not only taught Julie how to perfectly dodge passers-by on the sidewalk, it has also given her a taste for the eclectic, for patchwork and for the bits and pieces that make up this incredible city. She finds inspiration in cultural crossovers to collate and collect the colors and patterns that fuel her thoughts. After a childhood spent exploring the redwoods of Northern California, Jesse ventured out to Kansas City then New York to study art and ceramics. There he met Julie and decided to move to Hong Kong to be closer to the birthplace of porcelain. His strong artistic background, coupled with experience teaching design in New York, have led Jesse to first consider the concept of the pieces he creates. Finding the point where fine art and design meet is what makes Jesse tick – a product must respect its material and the history of its form, while always having something new to say.
Ours is a story of making. We design and craft accessories, lighting and tableware by drawing on different cultures and working hand in hand with artisans. The collaborative process between our team and artisans as well as our stories and travels around Asia weaves and shapes our designs. Each piece our collections is handled by skilled craftsmen and fired at incredibly high temperatures before being shipped to you from Hong Kong with love… So without further ado, we present to you the latitude of Latitude 22N with products that combine design, quality, craft, our respective backgrounds and stories, a hint of humor, a pinch of intricacy, some poetry, an obsession for details resulting in elegant, subtle, unique and playful products.

Each dessert plate, dinner plate, deep dish and charger of the SONG collection is unique − rather than being mass produced, they are hand-carved in a family-run workshop in Jingdezhen, China, where “flaws” become badges of honor, to be flaunted as marks of exclusivity. Each piece displays a variation on the theme of the charger’s all encompassing forest, telling a story in celadon glaze. The pattern itself plays off the artistic concerns of the Song dynasty, defined by humans’ interaction with nature and echoing latitude’s ideals of a simple, contemporary and natural representation of life.

Latitude 22N’s RIPPLE cups take their cue from the blue and white patterns that immediately identify the scrolls and vases of classical Chinese painting. Undulating across three different poetic paths, the waves flow gracefully around the classical form of the cup, a graphic take on a time-honored tradition. Each cup is carefully hand made and finished with intricate gold flourishes to make them truly unique.

Bring the ethereal beauty of nature to your space with the BLOOM porcelain suspension lamp. Stand back and appreciate the poetic and delicate flower-like shape inspired by the minimal wares of the Song dynasty. S.M.L or SMALL, MEDIUM AND LARGE is a collection of handmade, playful porcelain candleholders that puts you in charge of how big or small, creative or simple you want to go. Interactive and stackable, just one shape can be used on its own to admire the beauty of the nature-inspired design, or you can mix and match it with a variety of other sizes to start appreciating the connections between the forms. Watch how your home becomes a playground for your guests as they create their own patterns, stacking them by size, fitting them in sequence or scattering them at random.
DING
DING is not just a regular lampshade – it’s all bells and whistles. The small version can be used as a suspension or as a wall sconce. It can also be carried around easily and with a simple system the angle of light can be adjusted for a full swinging bell effect. We’ve also made a super Ding. Sturdy and strong, it will hang proudly over a table and command the space. For an even more intense result, we offer a gold interior finish. The light reflects around the interior of the lamp before emerging with a rich, warm intensity for intimate dinners or a cozy atmosphere.

Give a touch of lightheartedness to your table with the whimsical THE NIGHT MARKET dinnerware collection. Inspired by the vibrant and chaotic atmosphere of Chinese street markets, the patterns adorning the plates, bowls, spoons and small dishes of this collection are filled with humor - watch how the traditional classic blue and white “chinoiserie� patterns mingle with iconic items of the markets such as scooters, flip flops, fleets of TV antennas or how chopsticks knit noodles over a bowl of soup with exploding rice cookers. julie & jesse collections For the Julie & Jesse label, the founders of Latitude 22N work with age-old craft processes and industrial making processes in combination with the exploration of the territory between art and design. The outcome is imbued with a uniqueness and texture borne from the combined use of techniques and approaches from the two opposites.
FRAGMENT(S)
FRAGMENT(s) is a project that takes its cue from the study of porcelain, the traditional know-how, and the porcelain industry of Jingdezhen, which reveal a combination of both poetry and decay. As a conceptual project it is an exploration and experimentation to capture the limits and the relations between porcelain molding techniques, firing and colors. Fragment(s) is an intellectual recognition of the entropy of processes and forms, an incursion in time-honored practices and age-old vase shapes that become the ‘memory’ of the fragment and a transgression of the tradition. The handmade process results in a totally unique and unrepeatable shape for each individual piece. No two vases look the same as the molds decay and color combinations change. It is this inherent beauty and diversity that Latitude 22N is championing. Each customer owns something different.
D&A
The D&A chandeliers take their cue from architectural vocabulary. With D&A, Julie & Jesse veered away from the traditional use of porcelain as a plastic moldable material and set out to create a standard unit to be multiplied and assembled in order to achieve endless variations in volume. With a simple parameter of a soft spacer and a thin porcelain slab Julie & Jesse designed a system allowing them to create a large diversity of unique forms for every situations.
