Early Childhood Educators Day Wednesday 4 September

Message From Emily Hello everyone, I’d like to introduce myself – I’m Emily. You may have seen me around before at Carinya in the admin space, I’m now a team leader over at the Moe Early Learning Centre and have been asked to spend a short period of time at Carinya again. Maddi’s expertise has been called on to support our Family Health team. Don’t worry! She’ll be back and in the mean time you might see her around at one of your maternal health appointments or at the community immunisation sessions. Please continue to contact the centre as normal (Megan will still be here) and if you need to talk to me personally, you can reach me at Emily.vanderpluym@latrobe.vic.gov.au or stop in at my office. Looking forward to meeting you/seeing you again! -

Footy Day Dress Up – Come dressed in your team colours and have a kick of the footy. Parents and family members are welcome!

Pretend play and the imagination are important for cognitive development. In the early years of education, pretend play (such as pretend tea parties, dress ups and pretend mum’s and dad’s) helps children to reflect upon and regulate their own cognitive behaviour, and to reflect upon and gain a deeper understanding of the mind. Pretending is more effective when carried out with other children and when scaffolded by adults.

Children’s Week – Special days TBC Enviro Week – Latrobe Valley Bee Keepers visit & Latrobe City Recycling visit TBC

Protective clothing is also recommended for outdoor play. We recommend clothing to be loose fitting clothing that protects as much of the children’s skin as possible during outdoor play, i.e. sleeves, no singlets.

Crazy Hair Day / Wear WHITE to recognise Child Protection Week.

Babies whose parents talk to them frequently know 300 more words by age 2 than babies whose parents rarely speak to them.

Toddlers can hear everything with their shiny new ears; in fact toddlers have far better hearing than adults. Due to ageing and noise pollution, your ears naturally decrease in sharpness over the years. Plus, adults tune

out certain high frequencies that children have not learned to block out yet. •

Let your little one teach you a thing or two about comedy. Kids laugh on average 300 times each day while adults only laugh 60 times a day on average. Laughter is the best medicine after all!
