LAU-MEPI TL PROGRAM EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

TL graduates of 2023, Congratulations! The bittersweet moment of the year is here, and it is time to say our goodbyes! One can only experience a range of emotions when reflecting on our shared journey, including happiness, pride, appreciation, and melancholy. We at LAU are incredibly proud of all your efforts, grit, dedication, and numerous accomplishments. You inspire us with hope for a better future as young role models from the MENA region. Unfortunately, we did not give you the planet in the best possible shape, but we are certain that you have what it takes to turn the tide and create a better world. The TL program was serious about giving every one of you the chance to receive an outstanding American education that instills in you the noble principles of civic service, leadership, and equity.

This is not a goodbye, as we will be following your every step as you join the prestigious TL Alumni family. We look forward to seeing your impact on the world, and how many lives you will touch. This ripple effect of the program is what makes it so unique!

Allow me to conclude by expressing my gratitude to the tenacious TL team at LAU who, in spite of all the challenges, continue to pursue excellence. They show exceptional and wonderful attention and dedication. A sincere appreciation goes to the MEPI TL program leaders who continue to believe in the youth of the MENA region, without your faith in what we can accomplish together, today wouldn’t have been possible for all of us, THANK YOU!

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.

TOMORROW’S LEADERS GRADUATE PROGRAM

MEPI TL REFLECTIONS

WHAT IS YOUR MOST MEMORABLE HIGHLIGHT THROUGHOUT YOUR JOURNEY WITHIN THE MEPI TOMORROW’S LEADERS PROGRAM?

The most memorable highlight during my journey with MEPI Tomorrow's Leaders Program was being a panelist at the end-of-year conference at AUC, as this experience provided me with the opportunity to present and discuss my research with students, faculty, and staff from different backgrounds. Another memorable highlight was being the Master of Ceremony for the second MEPI TLS End-of-Year Conference since I was a MEPI TLS student myself, and a presenter in the first conference.

During my incredible journey within the MEPI Tomorrow's Leaders program, one highlight that stands out above all others is the profound cultural experience I had and the lifelong friendships I formed. Through engaging in vibrant discussions, sharing our unique traditions, and embracing new perspectives, I not only expanded my cultural horizons but also developed a deep appreciation for the richness and diversity of our region. Moreover, the connections I forged with fellow participants will always hold a special place in my heart.

The MEPI Tomorrow’s Leaders program significantly impacted me, particularly during my volunteer work at the Children’s Cancer Center of Lebanon (CCCL). The time spent with the children there was extremely rewarding because, despite their challenges, they exhibited such strength, determination, and enthusiasm. Their resilience was a source of inspiration for learning valuable lessons on adopting positivity, gratitude, and an optimistic perspective. Working with the children and educating them was an honorable experience, I learned as much from them as they did from me.

It is quite difficult to choose the most memorable highlight. I have been a Tomorrow’s Leaders student for six years. The program has been enriching in so many ways. As a Tomorrow’s Leaders Graduate student, I would say the most memorable highlight was working as an intern at the Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs at the Women, Peace, and Security Program. It was during my internship that I developed the ideas and research questions for my thesis.

The most memorable highlight of my journey was getting in touch with extremely qualified and knowledgeable individuals who epitomize leadership. Whether in workshops, with the staff and students, or through countless other opportunities, we were exposed to the experiences and their leadership skills which were very inspiring.

My thesis defense was the highlight and adventure of my year in Lebanon and with the MEPI Tomorrow’s Leaders program. I could see the fruitful turnout of my hard work and perseverance despite the challenges I have been through on a personal and academic level. There were times when I doubted my skills, but I had to push through either way, and that led me not only to succeed but to accomplish my thesis while having on my committee one of the best academics in the field from the top department of international affairs in the world.

Getting accepted into the program was the most memorable highlight for me. The Tomorrow’s Leaders program helped me to move forward and reach the next step in my career. Also, the support of the staff was instrumental in my success.

One of the standout highlights of my journey within the MEPI Tomorrow's Leaders program was undoubtedly the memorable MEPI Retreats. Those were the days when we all came together to enjoy and attend meaningful workshops. But what made it truly special was when I had the chance to present my Digital Media Skills workshop to my fellow MEPI students. The joy and excitement that stood with giving such an informative topic were truly humbling. It was a genuine moment of connection and camaraderie and at the same time, refining my skillset leaving a lasting impact on my personal growth. The MEPI journey will forever be a cherished chapter in my journey.

The most memorable aspect of my MEPI Tomorrow’s Leaders experience was seeing my fellow cohort members and program peers flourish and succeed in diverse endeavors, all with the shared objective of becoming influential leaders in our respective communities.

MEPI TL REFLECTIONS

HOW DID THE MEPI TOMORROW’S LEADERS PROGRAM PREPARE YOU TO BECOME TOMORROW'S LEADER IN YOUR COUNTRY AND IN THE MENA REGION?

The MEPI Tomorrow’s Leaders program has equipped me with all the knowledge and skills that I need to become an actual leader in my country and the MENA region. I consider myself lucky enough to have had access to quality education in different domains, which was also accompanied by the development of leadership, communication, and other skills that would make me and my colleagues the leaders of tomorrow.

The MEPI Tomorrow's Leaders program has played a pivotal role in preparing me to become a leader in my country and the MENA region. Through its comprehensive curriculum and experiential learning opportunities, the program equipped me with the essential skills and knowledge needed to tackle the complex challenges we face today. From intensive leadership workshops and training sessions to mentorship programs and community engagement projects, I honed my abilities in critical thinking, problemsolving, and effective communication. The MEPI Tomorrow's Leaders program has empowered me to contribute meaningfully to my country's development and advocate for positive change in the MENA region, making a tangible impact on the lives of individuals and communities.

I am grateful for the MEPI Tomorrow’s Leaders program, which offered me diverse and valuable experiences that helped me grow as a leader. The program’s gender courses were particularly helpful in broadening my understanding of gender equality and women’s empowerment. Armed with this newfound knowledge and skills, I feel more equipped to advocate for positive changes in my community. Overall, the program transformed me into a well-rounded individual with a deep understanding of societal challenges. With practical experience and a strong skill set, I am now ready to take on leadership positions in my country and the MENA region.

As an aspiring academic, I have to say that the MEPI Tomorrow’s Leaders program has granted me an extraordinary academic opportunity that has allowed me to grow both as an academic and as a person. When I applied to the program almost seven years ago, I wrote about how I wanted to change the education system in my country. I wanted to remove the social stigma associated with studying Humanities and Social Sciences. I believe that these fields are crucial to the development of Syria. I am positive that my academic work on collective memory and history will make a difference in the country.

MEPI TL REFLECTIONS YOUR JOURNEY

MEPI Tomorrow's Leaders program has had an extraordinary impact on my life. Not only has it given me the chance to achieve academic success in a respected institution, but it has also opened doors through the rigorous training and self-development opportunities that it has provided. The workshops have provided me with important training on issues that are not academic but still paramount for the future. Additionally, the volunteering and internship requirements have also provided me with significant insight on both professional and civic fronts. The TL program has not only made us leaders, but self-aware, emotionally intelligent, and bright leaders in a region that lacks a lot of leadership.

Through my participation in the MEPI Tomorrow’s Leaders program, I have gained valuable skills in managing people, including knowing what to expect, how to react, and how to choose my battles. In today's rapidly changing and challenging circumstances, many organizations that work on social impact struggle with managing the emotional aspects of their teams. It is not the skills that we lack, it’s how we manifest and use those skills efficiently that continues to be a challenge. MEPI TL equipped me with the tools to make sound decisions in situations of conflict and stress, solve problems, and most importantly, navigate transnational environments while upholding my morals and ethics, even when others compromise theirs.

The MEPI Tomorrow's Leaders program helped me to become a future leader in my country and the MENA region by offering various leadership training and opportunities to volunteer. Through these activities, I was able to engage in discussions with individuals from diverse backgrounds and with varying opinions.

The MEPI Tomorrow's Leaders program has empowered me to become a strategic and visionary leader. Through its rigorous content, comprehensive workshops, and valuable networking opportunities, I have acquired the skills, knowledge, and cultural understanding to tackle complex challenges.

Through the MEPI Tomorrow's Leaders program, I had the chance to connect with individuals from across the MENA region, forging enduring bonds in which we shared knowledge and learned from one another. Bringing young people together from different backgrounds for academic and personal development is what will one day bring the whole region together to thrive and flourish.
