WHAT IS A SOCIAL ENTERPRISE? Social enterprise is a cause-drive business, whose primary reason for being is to improve social objectives and serve the common good.


WHY SOCIAL ENTERPRISES WORK The majority of people today, especially millennials, want the companies they buy from to practice business sustainably and ethically. Consumers today want to make a larger impact in the world, which they satisfy with purchasing goods from socially responsible companies.


SOCIAL ENTERPRISE EXAMPLES


TOMS SHOES

TOMS Shoes wanted to address the fact that many children in developing countries lack shoes or ones that fit health and safety standards.

With every pair of shoes you buy from them they will donate an adequate pair to a child in need. These shoes will enable them to play and go to school safely: improving Health, providing access to Education and building Confidence.

TOMS has given over 50 million pairs of new shoes to children in need.


PURA VIDA BRACELETS After seeing local artisans in Costa Rica struggle in poverty, Pura Vida decided to create a partnership to provide these artisans with a better life. Pura Vida provides full-time jobs in positive working environments to 150+ artisans across the globe. In addition to donating 1% of their annual revenue to environmental organizations, they also have partnered with over 190 charities and donated have donated over 1.5 million dollars.


WARBY PARKER

The aim of Warby Parker is to address the challenge of 703 million people that currently live without access to eyewear.

For every pair of glasses you buy they will donate the same amount of money to source the glasses to a non-profit. They then provide training to men and women in developing countries to give basic eye exams and sell glasses to their communities at affordable prices.

Warby Parker has distributed over 1 million pairs of glasses to people in need.

Z’S CAFÉ

Food tastes better when you eat with your family

Z’s Café has put 119 low-income men and women from the Fort Worth community back to work in partnership with the non-profit Samaritan House. The workers start in the kitchen as cooks or dishwashers, and have the opportunity to work their way up to management.


TRIUMPH CATERING

Eat Well. Do Good.

Triumph Catering operates through Center for Transforming Lives. Triumph Catering fees support programs that help women and children live in safety, earn with dignity and save for a better tomorrow. They provide job-training services and employment opportunities for women in the programs through Triumph Catering.


TIME CONFECTIONS


FORT WORTH HOPE CENTER’S STORY We empower people to change their lives through job skill training and support that works. We give people back time. The time to be the worker. The time to be the father or mother. The time to be the hopeful believer they’ve always wanted to be. Now is the time, because it’s never too late to take back your life.

As part of Fort Worth Hope Center’s job training program, it will bake and sell cookies under the brand name Time Confections.


This social enterprise will partner will local businesses to sell cookies with all proceeds going back into job skill training at Fort Worth Hope Center.


Roxo will design a display case, packaging, and brand story for the cookies that will further the nonprofit’s brand message and overall “time” concept.
