ON THE STAGE
Arctic Monkeys is a British indie rock band, formed in Sheffield, United Kingdom. The group is comprised of lead guitarist and vocalist Alex Turner, guitarist Jamie Cook, drummer Matt Helders previously held by Nick O’Malley on bass. His first album, Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not, was awarded “Best British Album” in 2007. The band’s second album, Favorite Worst Nightmare, was released on April 23, 2007 and sold over 225,000 copies in its first week of release, as well as being nominated for the 2007 Mercury Prize. The band also won the awards. for Best British Band and Best British Album at the 2008 and 2014 Brit Awards. Glyn commented that she did not intend to go a step further - “to me we were just a bunch of kids causing trouble due to boredom.” Although some rumors have it that the group named after Helders’ uncle’s band, Helders denied it, stating that “we made it all up because a lot of people asked us [about the name], so we just started making up stories, ” a n d that later he did not have the courage to admit that he was lying.
Arctic Monkeys are generally considered part of the post-punk revival scene, alongside bands like Franz Ferdinand, Kaiser Chiefs, and Bloc Party. They began to be known through models made by their followers and distributed over the internet. In 2001 neighbors Alex Turner and Jamie Cook asked for a musical instrument as a Christmas present. Having learned to play on their own, the couple formed a band with Turner’s school friends (Stocksbridge High School), Andy Nicholson and Matt Helders.12 Nicholson already knew how to play bass, so Helders ended up on drums. “That was the only thing missing,” according to Helders. In a May 2006 Blender magazine article it was mentioned that Turner was not the original vocalist “When their first vocalist, Glyn Jones, left the band after a few months, Turner took the mic.” The studio album by English indie rock band Arctic Monkeys. Originally released in 2013, it features classic hits like ‘Do I Wanna Know?’, ‘R U Mine?’ and ‘Arabella’.

The most powerful drive The success of their strategy was illustrated by sold-out concert series in the UK. In October 2005 a concert at the London Astoria Theater sold out, and Turner saw this as confirmation that they were justified in ignoring the record companies: “Once it all started, nothing else mattered. In London, the guys were watching the band, and the record companies were witnessing this.“ The band resisted signing with a record company, stating that they refused to change their songs to suit the industry’s best interests.

WHAT THE HELL IS THIS? We have just accessed the room where the interview with Alex Turner (Sheffield, United Kingdom, 1986), leader of Arctic Monkeys, is supposed to take place, who has been absolutely fascinated. It is the first floor of the Bethnal Green Town Hall Hotel in London, and old Edwardian building with Art Deco touches converted, of course, into a hotel.
“Well, I don’t know, I think people here get married,” reports the press girl, trying to share a part of the excitement that Alex and the space server has caused, but without getting carried away at all: we have a job to do. The photo session just took place in a room on the ground floor
“There is a lot of attention to our next step. In this age it is difficult to keep secrets. Everybody is so crazy, they act like they are Colombo. I’ve seen this, I’ve seen that guy “
The proceeds of the album were also destined to this same cause. Currently the foundation is suffering economic havoc caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Despite being an air-sold release, the song entered the UK Singles charts at number 11, being the single to top the UK Singles charts since The Killers in 2007. In the following week it peaked at number 18 and following a performance at the 2013 Glastonbury Festival, dropped to number 19 on July 13. In the United States, the song was the first by the alternative rock band to enter the Billboard Hot 100 chart, reaching number 70.
Videoclip and behind the scenes
The video for the single “Do I Wanna Know” was first performed live on May 22, 2013 by British band Arctic Monkeys at a recital in Ventura, California, at the first Arctic Monkeys concert of the AM Tour.
It has reached one billion views on YouTube almost seven years after its premiere on the platform, on June 19, 2013 and until today in 2021 it continues to be listened to by thousands of people on different digital platforms. In both lyrical and aesthetic terms, “Do I Wanna Know?” picks up where he left off the band’s 2012 single “R U Mine?” The guitar riffs are very similar, but the song has a slower beat. The track continues to have the same heavy, rocky sound from their previous album Suck It and See.6 The song is in G minor. In concert, singer-guitarist Alex Turner uses a Vox 12-string electric guitar.
The music video for “Do I Wanna Know?”, Directed by David Wilson with animation agency Blinkink, 7 was first released on YouTube on June 19, 2013. It begins with a black background and simple wave visuals. sound in sync with the voice of band vocalist Alex Turner and illustrate the rhythm of the song. As of July 27, 2013, the video has been viewed on YouTube more than 1 billion times.8 The clip received a 2014 MTV Video Music Award nomination in the Best Rock Video category. BEHIND EVERYTHING
Since its emergence in the middle of the first decade of the century, Arctic Monkeys has become one of the most interesting ensembles, with a sound that has been changing at the tip of planetary hits. So far, the Sheffield ensemble has released five albums and their long-awaited sixth album, Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino, is expected on May 11, closing nearly five years of record silence. With a decade of experience, Alex Turner has given great songs with a lyric that has evolved, from the experiences of his youth to the new scenarios that he faced.
The sound achieved with “R U Mine?” led the group to create the full album. “We discovered something through the recording of that song that we thought was worth exploring,” said Turner, who used lyrical techniques used by rappers Lil Wayne and Drake. «I like what they do when they talk about something backwards, then they talk about it, but then they say what it really is on the following line. That’s what it’s about, uncertainty, ”he said. The idea of the band was to release this song as a standalone single in February 2012, but the following year it was included in their lauded AM.

The first — and last — rock stars of the internet age are back with a new album. Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner talks to Krissi Murison in our exclusive interview This group of lines expands to a huge number of topics. This starts with Alex singing her girlfriend a song where he talks to her about how much he loves her (kind of ironic if you read the whole blog). Alex feels that the song would be too cheesy, as the name is The Ultracheese, which would be a bigger version of Cheesy love that would be basically a synonym for cheesy. Alex mentions that that song would stay between his girlfriend, and Steinway and his children. Controversy over the new Arctic Monkeys album: worldwide trending topic on Twitter and fan reviews The British band Arctic Monkeys has released this Friday their new album ‘Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino’, the sixth album of their career and after six years of silence. In their latest work, the group led by Alex Turner has dispensed with the rocker vein that has characterized the group for more than two decades, with a sound that continues its evolution to a more careful and calm range.

Steinway & Sons (Steinway and Sons) is a piano brand. Alex talks about how he wrote that song while his girlfriend came out dressed as a fictional character from America in her golden age. This could be as an astronaut (serving as a touch to her album) or just one where she comes out dressed as a Disney character. But that does not matter. Alex then goes on to talk to about how it’s not easy to live a normal way with the government screwing everyone’s lives. That’s where the phrase “orbiting the sun” comes from, referring to the fact that he just wanted to have one more year to live / Continue living. In their latest work, the group led by Alex Turner has dispensed with the rocker vein that has characterized the group for more than two decades, with a sound that continues its evolution to a more careful and calm range, almost dispensing with guitars for the piano in some cases, something that has upset a part of his more purist hobby.

I entered this album expecting a sound very similar to what TLSP offers with a mix of Mini Mansions. However, I was surprised by a sound that reminded me of a mix of David Bowie and Frank Sinatra or Dean Martin. A raw piano was shown alongside drums showing a Jazz and Funk mix with a drastically reduced tempo. This sent me flying into space from the second 00:03. The drums showed extremely relevant although many only focus on the piano.
For a moment I forgot to be living in the 21st century. It only happened to me or did you feel this too? We go into the first song, and this is probably the song on this album that shows its purest sound with the Jazz / Lounge to our noses and a vocalization like never heard before on an AM album. And as if that were not enough, the lyrics of this song seem like a poem recited in a pleasant melody and a tone of incredible disappointment. But let’s go in parts, let’s start with its instruments. This sent me flying into space from the second 00:03. of the many examples in this album. Alex maintained spectacular control on this song giving a vibe of apathy and disappointment, but executed in a way that makes you think you are listening to the best jazz improvisation of the 60s. I’m sacrificing a lot of instrumental and vocal detail to get to the best part of this song, the lyrics.
Arctic Monkeys’ Alex Turner on their new album and returning to the limelight He drums show a more or less simple pattern, but it was used as a complement to the bass that looked like one of the most relevant pieces to the song along with the piano and, of course, the synthesizers. The vocalization of this song shows the unimaginable voice control Alex has at this point in his career. I remember hearing AM for the first time in 2009 with the album Favorite Worst Nightmare, and I never thought that this guy with such a talkative and fast voice would reach such a classy level of vocalization, but time has passed, and this song is one.
Alex Turner Arctic Monkeys’ frontman opens his front door and offers me a tea. He is wearing double denim and an army-surplus jacket embossed with his surname. The hair he usually Brylcreems into a quiff hangs lankly around a curiously awful goatee beard. I assume this must be his gone-to-seed, holiday look. Understandable — it has been five years since his band last released an album, and almost four years since either the hair or the chin were required on stage with them. But no, my mistake, the goatee is still very much present a few weeks later when the band announce details of their comeback with a series of moody new promo shots.

ARCTIC MONKEYS MANAGER CONFIRMS THAT THEY ARE ALREADY WORKING ON THEIR NEW MATERIAL Although 2020 has been a chestnut and the confinements have not allowed the usual activity of a great band like Arctic Monkeys, Ian McAndrew also confesses that this has become an opportunity to advance the new material of those from Sheffield. For now there are no details regarding the continuation of Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino (2018), but until we have relevant news about their new album, you can always listen to the live they published a few days ago: The manager of the Arctic Monkeys, Ian McAndrew, spoke about the present of the British band that last week released their first album live. He himself mentioned that the Sheffield gang is busy working on the follow-up to Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino. McAndrew and Domino Records boss Laurence Bell spoke to Music Week about the recent launch of Live At The Royal Albert Hall, which they organized to raise money for War Child. Both McAndrew and Bell praised the power of the Arctic Monkeys fans and said the live record marks a special release for the band.

Ian McAndrew, the manager of Arctic Monkeys, has revealed in an interview with Music Week that the British band is working on their new material. As commented by McAndrew, although this last year has been a bit strange for everyone, Alex Turner and company would already be underway to compose new songs that would finally end in a new release. What’s more, it seems that the Arctic Monkeys had already planned to record something this summer, although finally everything went to hell due to the mobility restrictions caused by the Coronavirus crisis.
CREATIVE AREA
“They have a really fantastic fan base, one that keeps growing and that’s really impressive,” McAndrew said. “Even in this quiet and inactive moment, the interest in the group does not dissipate and even grew during the moments when the band was quite quiet. To be able to harness that in a positive way to help support a charity facing great challenges and those children who are experiencing unimaginable hardships is truly rewarding. “ Then the manager spoke about what the Arctic Monkeys have been up to in 2020 and how the pandemic has affected their plans to record new material. “They are working on new music” There were recording plans in the summer that were thwarted as a result of travel restrictions. “ “An opportunity also presents itself in some way. If you are literally locked up, you are going to dedicate yourself to working at home, and that is what has been happening, ”he pointed out. Then, asked if the members are connected through Zoom or other platforms to work remotely and communicate with each other, the manager stated:
In this rather disjointed time, the guys are far apart and I hope next year they will start working together on some new songs, new ideas, with a view to a future release. “ When asked if they already have a finished new song, McAndrew said, “Well, y ou n ev e r kn o w ! Wh at I will say is that they have been working hard and I am looking forward to hearing new music from the boys in the new year.
“(Laughter) In the same way that the Arctic Monkeys don’t interact on social media, they don’t interact through audiovisual communication. I’ve never had a Zoom with an Arctic Monkeys member and I think I never will! This year they have been very concentrated working on song ideas from home ”. Alex Turner’s sixth studio album was ‘Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino’, which was released in May 2018 and received two Grammy nominations in 2019.

hree months after the premiere of their sixth studio album, entitled Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino (2018), the group led by Alex Turner has released the second audiovisual that serves as a company for the material. Thus, after the tribute to Stanley Kubrick who represented ‘Four Out Of Five’, the band returns to show their love for a figure of pop culture. The audiovisual was directed by the director from Los Angeles, United States, Ben Chapell, who has also worked with artists such as Neon Indian and Lissie. It is the first time that the director has worked with Arctic Monkeys, but he did not do it alone, as he had the support of the band’s guitarist, Jamie Cook, as co-director. This work follows Alex Turner on a walk from bar to bar in Las Vegas, while he has different drinks and sings in the karaoke bars of the establishments, it is shown on the screens to the rest of the group. After taking some pills, Turner wanders through the fields and roads to film a home movie with a Super 8 camera. Released last Friday, May 11, the sixth studio album by the Sheffield, England group, has been received with polarized criticism, with an average rating of 73% on Metacritic, the album is positioned as the worst rated in the race by Arctic Monkeys. However, many have hailed him for his risk, swapping the boyish and violent face of the band for a mature and introspective one. The album has been produced by Alex Turner and James Ford, who has collaborated with the quartet since the release of Favorite Worst Nightmare (2007). In addition to his work with the Arctic Monkeys, Ford has produced records for Foals, Birdy and Depeche Mode, among others. Alex Turner and co. released their divisive sixth album, ‘Tranquility Base…‘, in May. While there was no official lead single as such, a surreal, Stanley Kubrick-inspired clip was released for album highlight ‘Four Out Of Five’. The latest clip continues with the same Kubrick-esque sci-fi aesthetic and style, showing Turner in the fictitious hotel, complete with sauna and ranch.

The Arctic Monkeys just shot a music video in Reno — can you pick out all the locations? The British rock band The Arctic Monkeys recently filmed a music video in the Biggest Little City for their new song “Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino.” It was released online on Monday and is currently the No. 7 trending video on Youtube. Locations include the Peppermill, the Eldorado’s parking garage, the Fleischmann Planetarium at the University of Nevada, Reno and the Virginia Range (with a few cameos from Nevada’s famed wild horses).
LOCATION The music video was released on July 23, 2018 through the band’s official Vevo YouTube account. It was directed by Ben Chappell and Aaron Brown, who also directed the previous video for “Four Out of Five,” and continues with the Stanley Kubrick-inspired visuals from the previous clip. The video focuses on Turner living in the titular hotel and casino, traveling the floors, and lounging in the entertainment facilities. He also plays the role of “Mark”, the hotel’s resident concierge, answering the phone and redirecting calls. The video was filmed at the Peppermill Reno in Reno, Nevada. The moped featured in the video is a Honda Elite 80.
The ‘Other’ Alex Within the music video, Alex can be physically seen to be split between two people, one being clean shaved, reminiscent of the ‘AM era’ Turner, with gelled back hair and a sharp suit and one with a beard looking more rugged and less polished than his ‘opposing’ persona. There has been great speculation that the parallel between the two individuals is demonstrative of the individual Turner talks of in TLSP’s song ‘The Bourne Identity’.

“Being separated by the sea is one of them. We are all eager to do it, we would have already been doing it in a normal time. The 34-year-old drummer from Sheffield, South Yorkshire - where his teammates Alex Turner, Jamie Cook and Nick O’Malley also hail from - is currently in Los Angeles, where he has been working on experimenting with drums. Helders explained that the gang has encountered multiple obstacles to carry out this project due to the confinement and restrictions imposed by the authorities due to the COVID-19 pandemic, including being separated by an ocean, so they all want to return to normalcy as soon as possible.
“They are working on music. In this rather disjointed time, the guys are slipping away and I hope next year (2021) they start working on some new songs, new ideas, with a vision for a future release. There were recording plans in the summer that were canned as a result of travel restrictions. “
For now there are no details of the sound of this new board, but for fans of the Artic it seems to be enough to know that something new will come, as soon as COVID-19 is possible. The drummer only said that he “is always playing machines and synthesizers” from his home in Los Angeles, California. After months ago the illusion of the followers awoke, after being captured in a snapshot surrounded by keyboards and amplifiers in a Los Angeles recording room by photographer Andreas Neumann, who published it on his social network.

AM’s setlist varied over the two nights but both nights were an amalgamation of songs from all six albums a perfect blend of atmospheric, new TBHC songs and older, grungier hits.
Seeing Arctic Monkeys not once, but twice, in two days was absolutely insane - I’d like to have rated it a Four out of Five simply for the pun but personally I think there’s no doubt that the show(s) were as close to perfect as a concert can get.
Live staples like Brianstorm, Pretty Visitors and Don’t Sit Down Cause I’ve Moved Your Chair had everyone out of their seat, while there were also some (pleasantly) surprising inclusions like Library Pictures and From The Ritz To The Rubble (first time in Australia since 2009 !!!).

Alex Turner’s onstage antics oozed pure class combined with true rock n ‘roll - a highlight of the second night was the dance Alex did whilst holding a stool above his head! The crowd went crazy for that-as well as his famous hip gyrations of him, especially during Cornerstone! Matt was full of energy on the drums, Jamie and Nick were equally hyped-but nothing really compared to Alex’s voice of him, both speaking and singing (which quite frankly I could listen to all day).
The sound quality was utterly fantastic - you could not ask for more from a band - the only minor downside was the minimalistic, Kubrick-esque backdrop & stage - but Arctic Monkeys have never really been the type of band that relies on on-stage effects to transfix the audience... Alex Turner is, in his own words, a CERTIFIED MINDBLOWER. A definite Five out of Five.
Alex does that quite adequately on his own! As a group of sixteen-seventeen year olds, myself and my friends were probably the youngest people there but it was refreshing to see a lot of people our age the majority was (understandably) and uni students Study. Such an outstanding pair of performances that I’m so glad I went twice (and to be honest it was so enthralling I genuinely could have gone a third time if there was another Melbourne show).

Most of the band members recorded their parts individually, rather than the group doing it together, so the central studio location was blamed for distracting the young musicians. The album contains the singles “Pray for Plagues”, “Tell Slater Not to Wash His Dick”, “For Stevie Wonder’s Eyes Only (Braille)”, “Fifteen Fathoms, Counting (Instrumental)” and “Off the Heezay”, among others. . asy Life is one of the most exciting rising projects to come out of the UK in recent years.
E With just two released mixtapes and a few singles, the Leicestershire group is selling out places in their home country as they prepare to expand globally. With influences from soul, hip hop and rock, Easy Life has such a unique sound that it becomes unmistakable. Indie Hoy had the opportunity to talk with Murray, singer and bandleader, about his inspiration when recording his latest mixtape entitled Spaceships, and how it differs from his first material.
It’s really funny, they made me look like I’ve never been to school or seen a city in my life. Yes it is true that my mom and dad are farmers, and I always helped them, it is something I do to this day. Living in Leicestershire is quiet, I spend time with my friends and making music. That was my whole life. It is a place with many roots and culture, but not much happens globally, nobody has that as an objective. There is very little idea of the pop world. With every song we create and produce we never have in mind what we are going to do, we don’t have a defined sound. That’s why it ends up sounding out of place until it’s impossible to classify. I think that one should experiment and be brave when incorporating different genres, I seek to do things that have not been done before without worrying about labels and that kind of thing. We make music that excites us and at the same time is bold, being spontaneous is the secret. They are bittersweet lyrics about problems and how difficult life is, I am inspired by day-to-day situations. A reflection of how everything sucks but one has to find p lea s u r e j u s t t h e s a m e . I ’ m here for the public in good times and bad, to make life easier. ¿What are the plans for the next few months? I just enjoy the moment. I love making music and if there is an audience that listens to it and pays attention it is much better. Keep putting out more music, going on tour and reaching new parts of the world whenever possible.

Deb Never It is certainly not the first time you will read about Deb Never this year… Although she has been around since the summer of 2018, it was not until 2019 that her name and music took the necessary force to grab our attention. Influenced by Grunge and -in general- guitar music, Deb Never began her musical route by herself one day in her room bored with everything, until D33J, from the collective and label WEDIDIT, made her an offer that she could not refuse. : work together. This pair was joined by Shlohmo with whom she has a song called “Nothing Left”. Last summer he delivered his EP House on Wheels, produced by Dylan Brady of 100 gecs.

Deb Never: “There’s so much talent and a sick sound in London – it’s inspiring” Each week in Next Noise, we go deep on the rising talent ready to become your new favourite artist. Endorsed by The 1975, Slowthai, Brockhampton and many, many more, the LA-via-Pacific Northwest artist talks about working in London, her new EP and why every artist around is clamouring to work with her. Words: Gemma Samways.
If when you press play you feel that you have already heard it, it is quite likely. Deb Never is a friend of the Brockhamptons and they invited her to provide her voice for “No Halo,” which helped her music take a big leap and give her more attention. Her voice, like that of a siren, will enchant you while the music will make you float a bit. And if you need a reference of what you will find when you play Deb Never, take The Internet as a starting point. While creatively it’s been a steady ascent ever since, listening to a record as utterly filler-free as ‘Where Have All The Flowers Gone?’ does feel like Deb Never has shifted gears, and that we’re witnessing the arrival of a star in real time.

T
here are many factors that can contribute to music industry clout. But on the strength of her co-signs alone, Deb Never is already one of the most influential new musicians on the planet.
C onsider the evidence: in the last three years, the LA-based singer/songwriter has starred on songs by Brockhampton, Slowthai and Lava La Rue, collaborated with Kenny Beats, Dylan Brady and Shlohmo, and been personally selected to open for The 1975, Mura Masa, Dominic Fike and Omar Apollo. If you ask Deb to explain why she attracts such high-profile admirers, though, she seems genuinely stumped.
“I don’t know why [other artists] gravitate towards me,” she shrugs, semi-embarrassed even to be considering the question. After a protracted pause, she finally offers up a theory. “I think if you’re just naturally doing your own thing – developing your sound and being true to yourself – you’re gonna attract what you put out. I’m all about that energy. So I guess if I’m doing me, that’s gonna be what I’m gonna attract back.” Coming out of anyone else’s mouth, that answer could easily smack of false modesty. But it rings true for Deb, not least because it’s in keeping with the refreshing lack of guile with which she conducts the rest of our conversation.
This generous, easy-going charm only adds to her appeal as a collaborator, but it’s her creative prowess that’s attracting the famous fans in the first place. As a songwriter, she’s continuing to improve in leaps and bounds, as evidenced by her excellent new EP ‘Where Have All The Flowers Gone?’, out this week (September 10). Her first collection of music since 2020’s self-released ‘Intermission’ the palette-cleanser she created during quarantine – this dreamy, eight-song set showcases Deb’s unique melodic nous, melding coruscating guitar lines with skittering, hip-hop-influenced beats. Though less lo-fi than 2019’s predecessor proper ‘House On Wheels’, there’s still an intimate, almost homespun quality to the production, which was created with a team including Jam City (Kelela, Troye Sivan), Hoskins (Partynextdoor, Khalid) and Jim-E Stack (Bon Iver, Empress Of), as well as regular collaborators Michael Percy and Luke Wild. As Deb puts it: “I wanted to keep that seeming façade of simplicity, but to incorporate little sounds that made it feel bigger and more cinematic.”

F or a few years, in London there has
been a “movement” of Jazz artists who have managed to sneak into many posters worldwide such as BADBADNOTGOOD or Ezra Collective. Maybe it’s because his complex compositions are renewing that thirst for fresh, new sounds. One of them is Moses Boyd, who is a drummer, composer and producer who until this 2O2O will release his first solo album called Dark Matter, since in 2018 he released a collaborative album called Displaced Diaspora, which included the track “Rye Lane Shuffle” on where he participated for Four Tet and Floating Points. His sound brings together everything you could find in London today: Afrobeat, Grime and contemporary sounds that can be heard in clubs, so it is not uncommon to see him musicalize Louis Vuitton catwalks in Paris. A sample of this cool mix is “Shades Of You” which featured the collaboration of Poppy Ajudha, another recommended R&B artist.

Moses Boyd’s Neo-Noir Fever Dream With a modern take on jazz, UK drummer Moses Boyd released his latest project, Dark Matter, in February. The album is his debut project as a solo producer and band leader. Opening with single “Stranger than Fiction,” Dark Matter begins with a dazzling symphony of jingling cymbals before you are dropped into a funky, brass heavy rhythm, upon which Boyd skittishly drums. The song mimes the surreal-haze of disjointedness experienced within the current political, social, and health climate. The album was created less linearly than his previous works, allowing himself more creative freedom. As a mimetic response to the world’s current state, Boyd translated feeling into sound in a way that will truly amaze you. His composite jazz rhythms are synthesized with dance, electronica, pop, funk, reggae, rock, and grime.

Moses Boyd I would say it was more a feeling, really. I think a lot of what was going on around the time of making it, I think there was a lot of darkness. A lot of darkness going on in the UK, institutionally, socially… a lot of unrest. I was traveling a lot, and so it was more trying to synthesize a feeling and a sound into a record that kind of just summarized that. I don’t think I overly thought about it while I was making it, I think I was just responding to what was happening in the world, and these are the sounds that came out of it.
¿What was your biggest inspiration in its creation? I think it was people, man. Like I said, I was doing a lot of traveling, touring, going to places: America, South Africa, Europe… And just meeting really interesting, resilient, and amazing people across the world that were very open with sharing their culture, their information, their stories. It was a mix of everything that might have been going on at home or in the world. That was such a fun part of that time, being around incredible people.
¿How many instruments do you typically write parts for in a given song? I play drums and I play a bit of piano, not enough to perform, but enough to compose and write. But I write for everything. I can write for everything except I’m terrible with lyrics. It’s just melodies, really. I know the melodies I want and I know the sonic capabilities of most of the instruments I write for: the brass, the guitar.

Benjamin Schandy, better known as Jimi Somewhere, is a 22 year old Norwegian musician. He released his EP, “Ponyboy” in April 2019, which gained traction, and caught the attention of rapper Kevin Abstract. He met his long time collaborator and producer Milo Orchis in middle school, and have been working together ever since. After the release of his single “Bottle Rocket” he announced his debut studio album, “Nothing Gold Can Stay”, set to be released February 2021.
A little about him His most recent EP, PONYBOY, was released in 2019 and after that he uploaded a couple more singles, because since he got signed with Ultra Records, it seems like he has long-term plans. Jimi Somewhere has overtones of Pop ballads, mixed with electronic Hip Hop percussions, deep lyrics and that great cloak of “rarity” that welcomes the musicians of this generation. His sound reminds us a bit of Kevin Abstract from Brockhampton, Joji and Mac Miller. Benjamin Schandy joins the roster of young musicians who, inspired by the trend of creating music in ordinary rooms with almost professional quality, began uploading music to Soundcloud in 2016 under the name Jimi Somewhere. Although he dedicated himself to polishing some elements and it was not until 2019, when he returned with a new EP and the blessing of Boy Pablo, with whom he even collaborates on a song (“Never Cared)”. This Norwegian boy, barely 20 years old, seeks to take up some elements of the music he grew up with in puberty such as American Punk Rock (especially bands like Blink-182 and Green Day), to combine them with this generation of hip hop (Mac Miller, Odd Future and Brockhampton). Without neglecting the influence of the cinema of Spike Jonze, Francis Ford Coppola and Wes Anderson.

So it will be better to keep an eye on him from now on, to see what kind of things he will surprise us with. Benjamin Schandy, better known as Jimi Somewhere is not one who likes to follow the rules when it comes to music. Steady beats, poppy piano’s, a bit of obvious autotune here and there; the Norwegian Jimi cannot be put into a box. He has been releasing jaw-dropping, genre-defying music since his late teens. Whether he sings or raps, makes a hiphopor indie popsong, one thing is for sure: Jimi is something else. On his 18th birthday in 2016 Jimi uploaded this first EP Memoria on Soundcloud, which he wrote, recorded and produced himself together with best friend Milo Orchis at their school in Norway.

¿Who the Hell is Jimi Somewhere? If you drive about an hour west of Oslo, Norway, you’ll reach a small, postcard-pretty town called Hokksund. There’s not much there—it’s mainly forest and rivers, with about 8000 residents dotted around in flat, white houses. But there is a high school, a skatepark and one kiosk that opens during busier seasons. Sometimes, people drive up there to visit the local glass factory. Mainly though, it’s just a beautiful place, where nothing ever happens.
Jimi Somewhe real name Benjamin Schandy spent the first 16 years of his life in Hokksund. He enjoyed it, but was also bored out of his mind. So as is usual with kids in small towns, Jimi found refuge elsewhere. He learned guitar. Filmed his mates skateboarding. He started writing raps. Got into Spike Jonze, the Coppola canon, Wes Anderson. “I’ve taken all these things and combined them to make… me,” he says.
We’re sitting in a cafe just off Brick Lane, east London. Jimi is drinking a bright green juice the same color as his homemade t shirt, the back of which reads: “Life was better when I was 17” lyrics to his most well-known song, “1st Place.” His girlfriend is sitting beside him in a puffa jacket, scrolling through her iPhone and occasionally looking up to laugh at something one of us has said. Her hair is long and purpley violet, while his is faded red. Next to each other, the two of them look especially young and colourful, like teenagers who might be cast in a movie as “teenagers.” “I only got here last night, but I leave tomorrow,” Jimi says, blinking at the sun, making small talk.

New decade, new music. We love making a forecast of things to come this decade, will old trends return, will music be reinvented, will new generations continue with what has already been done or will they give us a big surprise? As these questions are resolved, we present a list of five projects that will be putting the first steps of the 2021s that, for the most part, reflect a fresh and creative way of making music.
Dark times require boldness, spontaneity, and a lot of creativity Easy life is a project by English friends who fuse R&B sounds with hip hop and a bit of pop. Hailing from Leicester, Murray, Oliver, Sam, Lewis and Jordan released their first single entitled “Pockets” in mid-2017, which caught the attention of Island Records. By 2018, her name was beginning to sound more often among the music scene in her country and two years later she would be recognized as Best New British Artist at the NME awards. ¿What is your proposal and why is it attractive? Well, the project creates a happy and fun sound with lyrics that approach the problems of everyday life with optimism, but without falling into exaggerated romanticism. His mantra? “Enjoy the moment”. The group not only transmits this idea musically but through the visuals it also tries to capture the concept. An example of this is the clip made by Andy Baker (animator in the Rick & Morty cartoon) that accompanies. “a message to myself”, a song that addresses issues such as depression and self-esteem. The single will be part of their second studio album, Life’s a Beach, produced by BEKON, who has worked with Kendrick Lamar.
Its release is scheduled for May 28 and according to Murray, it will be an album “that wishes to be anywhere but here, but at the same time fixes itself on a sad existence in England’s middle class.” On the other hand, Murray and company have collaborated with Arlo Parks on the song “sangria” and recently made their first television presentation on the show Jimmy Kimmel Live! where they presented “skeletons”, the second promotional preview of their album.

his French band debuts with an album that for me is one of the great pop jewels of the year. Some of the previously released singles, such as “Amour Plastique”, “Roi” and “Enfrance 80” (included on this album), hinted that something good was going to deliver the French duo formed by Adéle Castillon and Matthiueu Reynaud. “Euphories” is an almost perfect debut that mixes dream pop, synth pop with a very clear base of eighties pop that is reflected at all times, including clothing, art and staging. One of the most differentiating aspects of this album are its lyrics in French that imply an exquisite, enveloping pronunciation that never lets go of you. The voice games are very well thought out, running at the right times, balancing the role of both members.

One of my great apprehensions with some new pop bands, is the abuse and the disorderly way of mixing and combining electronic sound resources that, in some cases, at least for me, end up saturating me. However, I think the French managed to put together an album with a very fine production, finding the perfect point for an album of these characteristics and genre. The album has practically no low points, however, there are a couple of songs like “Euphories”, “Enfance 80” and “Petit Monde” that I think stand out the most. “SMS” is the last track on the album and is a perfect choice to close. When I finished listening to it for the first time, I immediately started looking for a little more information from them. Upon investigating, I discovered that they both had a loving relationship and that “SMS” is the song they released to expose the breakdown of the couple and apparently the band as well. I hope they are fixed soon and have news of their return.

Jimi Somewhere JIMI SOMEWHERE SHARES VIDEO CLIP OF ‘BOTTLE ROCKET’ The Norwegian singer, Jimi Somewhere, after the release of Selfish, returns with his second release of the year, Bottle Rocket, the theme that will be the first single from his new album. The song was accompanied by a video clip directed by Benjamin Schandy and Martin Kopperud. “I remember when I was in high school and my friends started getting their driver’s licenses, we were going to drive. Literally nothing was happening, but it didn’t really matter because we all had a lot of energy and just being together was so much fun. I tried to capture that feeling. From just being excited about everything. Being loud and feeling invincible! ”Jimi commented on the song. There, in the middle of nowhere, Jimi Somewhere could have starred in a story of isolation, but by posting his first songs on the internet when he was coming of age, he ended up connecting with thousands of teenagers around the world. Like his compatriots girl in red or boy pablo, like other new voices like Clairo or beabadoobee, the Jimi Somewhere phenomenon started in a bedroom and has ended up explaining the sound of a whole generation (now 23 years old) that has blurred the borders in the music.
His debut album, Nothing Gold Can Stay, has both Brockhampton hip pop and Alex G’s flawed melodies, both King Krule’s gloom and Tame Impala’s multi colored spirals. In songs like The World or Acre, urban explosion and old-school indie share space: a rare balance that can only be found by those who are not looking for it deliberately. will
be performing on April 29, 2022 in Madrid (Siroco) and on April 30 in Barcelona (Laut) within the presentation tour of Nothing Gold Can Stay.

When we hear the word Indie, what do we relate it to? Sometimes with a band, movie, or even the Indie subculture. This is due to the impact that everything that is categorized as “Indie” has had on our daily lives. But what does the word “Indie” mean? Indie is the abbreviation of the English word independent (independent in Spanish), therefore when we talk about Indie, we are not only talking about music, but about an infinity of things, such as movies, clothes, video games, magazines, literature , among others. This word began to be used frequently in the 80s, since it was used to categorize music labels that went against Mainstream (Commercial Music), something extremely similar to what Alternative Rock is today, and in fact Alternative is it would originate from said music labels. Indie and Alternative Rock have very big differences, and we will explain both styles in a very brief way.

Unlike Alternative, Indie was not created as a musical subgenre or genre. This was created as a category for music labels that would make music for sub-genres as opposed to commercial music. In other words, the origin of Alternative Rock was Indie. But how did Indie become a style of music? As we explained, Alternative Rock lost its cultural significance in the 90s, as it became Mainstream with El Grunge, with RHCP and its mix of Alternativo with Funk, Radiohead, etc. This caused that there was no longer a specific category that represented non-commercial music. At the beginning of the new century, bands began to take an inclination towards the small Britpop era, which despite not being bad, there is not a difference so significant as to call it another subgenre. After this mini-era, Arctic Monkeys, The Killers, Interpol, Arcade Fire, etc, would make known the sound that is designated as “Indie” today. So what is Indie really genre or not?
TOP 10 INDIE TRACKS
INDIE TRACKS Indie is not simply music, as some think, Indie is totally different from what is considered. Indie is not typical of Rock. In fact, Indie belongs to nothing but itself. It is not a subgenre of Rock in a direct way, nor of Pop as many think. Indie is being independent from everything. Indie Rock, Indie Pop, Indie Cinema (Movies), etc, these are additions that are added to a production style, it is the simple fact of doing something against the Mainstream, as is listening to Rock in this era, it is considered an Indie act. And this is almost always confused with “Hipsters”, that is another topic that we will surely explain later another day.
In short, Indie music is characterized by its self-management or by being associated with a smaller commercial production company. A band that is considered independent implies that the artist has creative freedom, unlike bands that belong to a record label that are influenced by market trends.

THE KVB Blending reverb-soaked shoegaze with minimalist electronic production, The KVB’s music reflected Nicholas Wood and Kat Day’s mastery of atmosphere even as their sound evolved over the course of the 2010s. Early releases such as 2012’s debut album, Always Then, dealt in brittle beats and sonic blasts that evoked Cabaret Voltaire and the Jesus and Mary Chain in equal measure, but the duo’s style became more streamlined and sharp-edged on later efforts such as 2018’s Only Now Forever.
The following year, the duo ventured to Newcombe’s Berlin studio to track what would become the Out of Body EP, which A Records released later that year. This session marked the KVB’s first recordings made outside of the duo’s own home studio as well as the first time working with drummer Joe Dilworth, known for his work with Stereolab and Cavern of Anti-Matter. Wood and Day collected some of the more experimental output they recorded in 2014 on Mirror Being, which Invada released the following June.
The duo kicked off a busy 2013 with the release of its second full-length, Immaterial Visions, for the Minimal Wave imprint Cititrax that February, then followed it with a remix EP featuring contributions by Regis and Silent Servant that May; in November, a reissue of 2011’s previously limited-edition cassette release Minus One arrived on Brian Jonestown Massacre mastermind Anton Newcombe’s A Records label.
The duo continued to move in a more experimental, heavily electronic direction on 2016’s Of Desire, which The KVB recorded with vintage synths from Invada head Geoff Barrow’s collection. The Fixation/White Walls EP followed in 2017, and that year the duo also issued a remastered, five-year anniversary edition of Always then, recording on their own in their Berlin apartment for the better part of a year.

PWNT, the LA-based dream-pop project of Kosta Galanopoulos, has shared his new single, “Days in the Summer”, which will serve as the title track for his upcoming debut album, out June 25, 2021, via Acrophase Records. Borrowing his moniker from the Miles Davis quote, “play what’s not there”, PWNT fuses together the worlds of 60s psychedelia, 90s Britpop, and the sounds of 2010-era acts such as Passion Pit and MGMT on his latest single. “Days in the Summer” sets the tone for forthcoming album, incorporating the vintage colours and tones early, and building into a charming, free-spirited, and bright collection of tracks. “This song was another track that I cut at my studio in LA and took to the Miami recording session with me,” explains Kosta. “At the time I was hanging at this bungalow for a few weeks and was engulfed by lots of greens and blues, warm weather, you know… all those feels. Summer feelings. Sandy feet and unbuttoned shirts.” The track begins with a lowkey The Los Angeles-based piano beat then quickly swings producer and instrumentalist into Galanopoulos singing over has been releasing music as a twangy guitar riff and pops PWNT since last year, and has of different synths. children collide Album Walkthrough: Children Collide break down their returning record, Time Itself
Once upon a time, Children Collide were a hallmark act of Australia’s indie-rock explosion. Forming back in 2005, the group were an act synonymous with the late-2000s/early-2010s post-bloghouse rock explosion, holding dominance throughout the country’s live space and the flourishing festivals such as Big Day Out and V Festival (RIP to them both) that were distinctive to that era. They had a top-ten-charting sophomore record - 2010’s Theory of Everything - and numerous ARIA Award nominations under their belt, before eventually splitting shortly after the release of their third album Monument in 2012.
Now, nine years following their last album, Children Collide return at a force with Time Itself. Out now through Spinning Top Records, Time Itself is a record not as drenched in nostalgia as you’d expect from a band like Children Collide coming back after all of these years. There are glimpses of that within the confines of the album - take a peek at the grunge-y Return to Femmes, for examplebut much of the album sports a daring rock sound that’s been brought forward to 2021, capturing the charm of the band in the past perhaps, but through what appears to be an entirely new lens. As such, Time Itself debuts a version of Children Collide that we’ve never seen before.

T he independent cinema gives us year
after year a large number of films that become part of everyone’s heart. What would become of the girls of today without Amélie? What would Tumblr be without Wes Anderson’s color palettes? What would become of everyone’s relationships if we hadn’t seen (500) Days of Summer?
SYNOPSIS
These movies also usually have a wonderful soundtrack, with songs that we all want to have on our iPod and that surely are perfect with the scenes in which they were sounded. That is why we bring you a list of movies with fetén soundtracks, which we will continue to love forever. May it also serve to give the appreciation they deserve to various undervalued works of modern cinema.
(500) Days Of Summer 500 Days With Her tells the story of Tom, an introverted young man, aspiring architect, who makes his living writing greeting cards. He is madly in love with Summer, the new office secretary. The girl does not believe in her true love and, from the beginning, tells Tom that her girlfriend tag does not suit her. Tom will take on the task of conquering her heart because he is completely convinced that she is the love of his life. They start a relationship and everything seems to be perfect until she decides, suddenly, that she no longer wants him in her life and leaves him. He is given the task of analyzing the 500 days they spent together to discover where he failed and during this process, he will rediscover his true passions in life. It is a film that shows us that love is the best feeling that someone can experience, but that sadness also walks by its side. The film features a non-linear narrative, feeding on several days within Tom and Summer’s 500-day relationship. The following plot summarizes the story in chronological order.

(500) Days Of Summer: A Movie That Put Excellent Music Into New Ears If you entered this publication and saw (500) Days Of Summer when they were in high school / secondary: Yes, they are old. The film was released 10 years ago under the direction of Marc Webb and since then its narrative has taken on a new meaning due to the emotional experiences that we have faced when getting involved in… you know, a relationship. What if Summer rolled over, what if Tom didn’t catch the wave and nailed it; Those are the discussions that the film continues to generate because it was quite easy to relate to what was happening at all times. The story is not complex at all, it is just the portrait of something that sooner or later we all go through one or more than two times (more when we do not learn from lessons and we continue to need). For that reason we always see her again, perhaps with a new mentality or with a different one than the one we had 10 years ago, so whether they love her or hate her they will never stop feeling identified with the character of Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Zooey Deschanel or even Chloé Grace Moretz in her “amix realize” roll.

One of the aspects that completely reinforced its theme is the right choice of its soundtrack. They were songs that simply matched what was happening and went beyond the modernity that Zooey Deschanel already had on his radar with She & Him, as it also served as a pretext to bring new ears closer to bands that years ago only appeared at midnight. on MTV or very occasionally on Radioactive. One of them was Doves, a band that although never had such an overwhelming media reach, their The Last Broadcast is one of the most beautiful albums that appeared in the first two thousand years and right there came “There Goes The Fear”; the melody with which it begins became a classic after appearing in (500) Days Of Summer. The same happened with the initial sequence where “Us” by Regina Spektor (released in 2004), “Mushaboom” by Feist plays and as if that were not enough, it also gave a greater projection to bands that were just opening up, it happened like The Temper Trap with “Sweet Disposition” and the Black Lips with “Bad Kids”.
SOUNDTRACKS DIRECTED TOWARDS THE MOVIES
Let’s say that the film killed several birds with one stone (no offense to any organization, that’s just a saying ...), because in addition to adopting new and not-so-new bands, it also stayed true to the origin of everything by giving its place to bands like Pixies (although only in the karaoke scene, in the soundtrack they do not appear) and of course, the band that made everything between Tom and Summer: The Smiths. Let’s say that (500) Days Of Summer is a short and easy trip, but for the last 10 years it has impacted, to some degree, each of our lives by its expectations and realities.
