ABOUT ME

Born and raised in Panama, Laura Marin-Jaramillo is a junior at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) pursuing a BFA Architecture major (STEM degree). Throughout her academic journey, she has developed software valuable skills such as Revit and AutoCAD, as well as been certified in (Adobe Photoshop). Laura has built a competitive career foundation by interning at the prestigious firm Gehry Partners, LLP in Los Angeles, California - where she worked alongside Frank Gehry and his team on international commercial designs. In parallel, she has has established her talent as an emerging artist by founding her own brand “Clemente” and leading the company’s creative affairs — a venture that has been internationally recognized by Fashion Week and Vogue LATAM. She is currently on the lookout for professional experiences for summer 2023, and looks forward to continuing blending the fields of architecture, art, fashion, and design to create purposeful and sustainable communities.

ARTIST RETREAT Residence design

Project role:

The project consists of designing a retreat for a visiting artist. The site is located on a coastal piece of land with scenic views of salt marsh.

Project description: floor plan level 1 floor plan level 2 concept models elevations understanding the use of scale

The models and process work are an initial response to the project’s program. Moreover, the concept that drove my design decisions revolves around the anatomy of a salt marsh and its activities. Through the design principle of hierarchy, the retreat promotes a creative atmosphere.

CASA NIDO Traveler’s pause

Project role:

Considering the relationship between architecture and site, the project involves designing nine separate accommodations for travelers to pause. The architectural objective of this project is to create an immersive experience with the natural features of the Hoh Rain Forest.

Project description:

During the design process, the site’s climate, topography, and conditions were a method of inquiry. Analyzing the site, I understood that the rainforest’s structure consists of four layers: emergent, canopy, understory, and forest floor. Therefore, a series of concept models were produced to understand how architecture could be related to this particular place.

Moreover, the initial design response gives travelers an uplifting experience that enhances their mental health. Being both inside and outside of these accommodations feels like being in a tree house – different spaces where to spend time reading, meditating, or simply admiring the beauty of nature.

EVOLVE Experiential learning school

Project role:

Investigating the Perceptual and Experiential orders and choreographed movement of architectural space, the project involves designing a Charter School for Experiential Learning. The objective of this project is to explore the visual, haptic, and auditory senses inside our site which is located on River Street, Savannah, GA.

Project description: floor plan level 1 floor plan level 2 the artifact diagrams understanding artifact & zoning zoning diagram

After composing a choreography sequence of horizontal and vertical elements from a sentient walk through our site, an artifact was obtained as a point of start for our building design. From the artifact, the program development was zoned into four main zones: a space to act, reflect, apply and conceptualize. The initial response to this program reflects an overlapping of experiences that can be translated into learning opportunities. Being inside and outside the building feels like being in a network of passages and paths. Each path is different to enhance a different sense so the students can learn from the experience of being in the building.

ARTIST BOOK ARCHIVE Artist book library

Project role:

Understanding the role of context and landscape within a historic setting, the objective of this project is to design a small library for artist books. The form of the building is developed by the qualities and needs encountered in SCAD Lacoste.

Project description:

While in Lacoste, data was collected from physical and narrative site analysis. The understanding of movement within this place helped to develop the concept behind the design. Not only human movement but also how the sunlight moves on the site throughout the day. The initial response considers the history of Lacoste and translates it into spaces where locals and visitors will have the opportunity to interact with the artists’ books.

During the first visit to the site, I noticed the slice looked like a bottle with two necks. Therefore, it contains two different access in each extremity—the morning sunlight pronunciations this complexity, creating a sunlight corridor.

Some of my sketches and details drawings while studying at SCAD Lacoste, France.
