Where has 2012 already gone. As I write this note, I marvel at how fast time has flown by. We are already at the one year anniversary of the expansion of our showroom and the 5th year for Lilith’s Spring. It’s with great humility that I thank all our supporters and companies who continue to make our signature, annual event a success. This year, we have two very talented artists and we are excited to share that with you. I think with each issue we are amazed at how much more evolved the magazine has become and how much more content there is to cover. In this issue, we take you into the first glimpse of spring, the season of rebirth, renewal and growth. There is so much to look forward to - in spring, the flowering plants start to bloom and everything looks so much more promising. Well, unless you live in our great state of Texas where Spring starts in February. But I wouldn’t dare complain because I have loved every moment of being here and all the wonderful faces I have grown to know. Whether you plan on starting a spring makeover for your home, your wardrobe, or just in general, you will find many options from which to choose in this issue. Shannon Ables is the creator and editor of The Simply Luxurious Life blog, as well as a freelance writer and high school English teacher. What’s Hot: PUT IT IN PRINT Prints add an element of fun and charm wherever they are seen, so it’s not surprising that they are hot in interior design for spring and summer (or anytime really!) From tabletop to furniture, pieces featuring prints are a great way to spice up a more traditional space with color and pattern. While some may not be daring enough to use a printed fabric for an entire piece of furniture or for a complete room, there are plenty of ways to incorporate this trend in a more subtle way. “Transcending Limits” By Mars Woodhill
Mars Woodhill’s art can be summarized as visual energy crystallized in paint. Whether viewed from up close or far away, it expresses passionate movement; variations of color, texture, and opacity intrigue the beholder. Inspired by natural phenomena, Mars’ paintings tend to hint at the biological, geological and even cartographical influences. When viewed, Mars’ work may suggest the interior of a mineral formation, an astronaut’s view of an undiscovered world, or a new life form rising. Mars utilizes the fluid dynamics of paint to evoke the sensation of rapid motion or the brisance of an explosion or implosion. It is the sense of movement that provides the common link. Mars has begun an exploration of “reinvention”, expressed both in her paintings and in sculptures formed from paint that has escaped the boundaries of the canvases. 47|

Q: Describe this project?
A: This project was a back yard addition that included a dining room, family room, studio and gallery. The additio create an intimate courtyard space around the existing pool. Q: What materials were used to complete this project?
A: A variety of materials were used for this 1,500 square foot, two-story home. The exterior materials used were cem num storefront and stainless steel railing, while oak flooring, custom stainless steel railing and custom wood cabine interior. Q: What would you say is the most intriguing aspects of this project?
The most unique feature of this house is that Dencity had to try to attach a new social space to an adjacent kitch without it feeling redundant. We accomplished this in the new social space by:
Offering a formal place to dine with an incredible view of the garden and pool.
Offering a two story entertainment space with two story glass looking out over the garden and hillside.
Offering a second floor studio loft as an additional entertaining spill over space and office area.
Offering a second floor balcony for reflection during a hard day of work or to hang out with friends and take in the private backyard and pool.

“We didn't want it to feel like a copy of the existing structure and we also didn't want the new addition to be so different from the existing house that they couldn't coexist together. We met all of these challenges by creating an addition that was a very intricate and complicated form with a lot of glass, as opposed to the original structure. Vintage Inspired Wedding A Houston wedding coordinator plans the wedding of their dreams! Blush rose and peach petals grace the old, antique chair with yard ropes and vintage flair. This unexpected wedding treat, held at the Heritage Society inside Sam Houston Park in a quaint, white chapel decorated with pastels and the natural glow of barn wood, made the wedding for best friends more than they could have imagined. The young couple knew they wanted a wedding full of charm and they turned to Roberto Carlos and his eponymous firm, Roberto Carlos Events. There are so many vignettes and elements that makes this Vintage Inspired Wedding memora-
ble. From the vintage piano to the original wood that’s used in the chapel, the bride and groom Irene and Nicholas wanted a wedding that was filled with family, friends and the feel of nature. And to make the wedding official, the bride did the traditional ringing of the bell. Just imagine a large, brass bell hanging from the ceiling making a loud “dong� that signifies the beginning of their lives together. The seamless occasion was a reflection of an event coordinator who knew exactly what was needed. Every memorable detail was captured by Laurie Perez Photography and the reception was later held at the Humble Civic Center where the couple danced the night away.

Get the look The concept for this project was “contrast with a sense of place�. A soft, neutral palette was used to counter the heavy woodwork throughout the home and colorful accents were incorporated. The lush green landscaping and amazing views were a driving factor in the layout, materials and drapery in each space. Because the client purchased and furnished this home with the intent to rent it , she requested a neutral palette with pops of color that would have a broad appeal. And because she collected vintage Los Angeles themed art, they were carefully displayed throughout the home.

Ingredients: Unsalted Butter, for pan 8 extra large eggs. Room temperature, separated 1/2 cup granulated sugar 1 1/2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract 1/2 cup cake flour (not self-rising) 2 teaspoons sifted baking powder 1 pint heavy cream 2 tablespoons confectioners’ sugar, plus more for work towel 1 quart strawberries, washed, dried and hulls removed
Directions: 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Butter and line a rimmed 15-by-10-by-1-inch jelly roll pan with parchment paper; set aside. 2. In a large bowl, beat egg yolks and sugar together until light in color, about 1 minute; stir in 1/2 teaspoon vanilla. Add cake flour and baking powder; stir until well combined. 3. In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the whisk attachment, beat egg whites until stiff peaks form. Gently fold into flour mixture. 4. Pour cake batter in prepared pan and spread evenly with a spatula or the back of a spoon. Transfer baking sheet to oven and bake until cake springs back when touched, about 20 minutes. 5. Meanwhile, set 6 strawberries aside for garnish. Thinly slice remaining strawberries. Place heavy cream in the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment; beat on medium speed. Slowly add remaining teaspoon vanilla and 2 tablespoons confectioners' sugar. Continue beating until soft peaks form. Set half of the whipped cream aside. Gently fold sliced strawberries into remaining half; set aside. 6. Lay a clean kitchen towel flat on a work surface with one of the short ends facing you. Generously sprinkle dish towel with confectioners' sugar. Flip cake onto towel, remove baking sheet, and peel off parchment paper. Using the dish towel, roll cake away from you; let cool. 7. Unroll cake. Evenly spread strawberry whipped-cream mixture over surface of the cake and re-roll. Transfer cake to a serving plate and evenly spread top and sides of cake with reserved whipped cream. Cut reserved whole strawberries in half lengthwise and place on top of cake for garnish.
