Meet Julie

Malait

Recently celebrating their 10th anniversary, Playtime are an international trade show for Kids and Maternity fashion.

Held biannually, the show runs

in Paris, Tokyo and New York. In 2017, the Paris show will run from the 28th to the 30th January - 3 days of exposing the hundreds of miniature (for the babies) and plus sized brands (for those having the babies), including ADEN+ANAIS, ALISETTE BY B, BALLOON and CARAMEL. Each year there are some fabulous, cute new trends for your daughters and we just have to share them with you! It’s so exciting when you get a sneak peak at the new little outfits for the young ones! We had to get more information.. and who better to talk to than Paris Playtime’s own trend-setter, Julie Malait!

Hello Julie! Thank you so much for your precious time! What is it like being Playtime’s trend-setter for the 2017 Paris show? Well, hello it’s a pleasure to talk to you! Here’s to the dawn of a new era! We’re inventive, spontaneous and instinctive… just the way children are. We listen to our bodies, to the environment, and to the nature which carries us: a sound will give birth to a feeling, which will change into form, the form will take on color, and the whole will metamorphose into an idea. So do luminous projects come to life, the kind that carry us, build us, and bring us together. Finding new clothing and styles is the bestest job out there, and I can’t wait for you to see them all in full!

It sounds amazing! Could you give us a sneak peek about some of the new trendy styles? Yes, of course. We’re calling this first one, Shaman. We’ve lost ourselves in the Gobi Desert. We’re bringing back the shamanic rituals of the tribes of Mongolia wrapped in animal skins, carried away by ancestral sounds of the inner beast. This winter, we’re reconnecting with nature.

During winter, see our little ones in:

-Materials: fur, leather, wool -Colors: brown, burgundy, viridian green, royal blue, copper -Prints: ethnic geometric, embroidery -Key pieces: chapka, fur coat, fur-lined boots I’ve heard about some of the daily routine outfits. They look adorable. What can you tell us about this? This second trend is unfolding the familiar hum of city life. I was inspired by the great names of the De Stijl artistic movement. We’ve played with simplicity of form and purity of colour.

See our daily little ones in:

-Materials: leather, denim, heavy cotton -Colors: gray, black, red, white -Prints: lettering -Key pieces: jumpsuit, boots, cap My daughter loves to dress up, and as a mother myself, I’m inspired by Playtime and it’s reflected in how I dress her. We both love parties, what can you tell us about the party trend? Parties are life’s best moments! We’ve unleashed our creativity by going for daring blends; all combinations of style, colour, and materials are allowed! What really matters is to have fun and enjoy the time spent with our loved ones. At the parties, see the little ones in:

-Materials: velvet, brocade, leatherette, silk -Colors: orange, navy blue, ocher, violet, yellow, brown, gold -Prints: glen plaid, cashmere, tartan, tapestry -Key pieces: dungarees, flared pants, polo-neck, loafers, beret
