it was cold that afternoon, and the sun shone through the branches of the trees, laying in pieces on the grey cement.
six feet crunched through the leaves that were left behind and pushed to the sides of the road, their laughter echoing through the brightened sky.
exhales hung in the air as it left their chapped lips. tall buildings lined either side of the street, cold and solemn.
their hair hung down, long and messy with tangles of curls and waves knotted at the ends.
alleys became a comfort, an unknown, hidden within the shadows. blood pulsed, rapid through their veins as soon as the sun began to fill their space.
the air was still, but broken by the quick movements of their bruised calves.
the bottoms of their shoes were dirty and worn but no one seemed to notice.
one paused and pulled her hair back, wrists bare and eyes shining in the sunlight.
they had been bound with secrets, murmured softly in each others ears. with trusting eyes and promises filling the emptiness --
their dull ache slowly fading away.
