SEVEN SISTERS ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THE FESTIVAL IS HELD ON THE TRADITIONAL LANDS OF THE BOON WURRUNG PEOPLE OF THE KULIN NATION Seven Sisters Festival welcomes all women including women of culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds (CALD), women of every gender expression and identity, women of diverse sexualities, women of diverse abilities, and women of diverse religious backgrounds and belief. Dear Guest! My warmest welcome! I am so pleased to be sharing with you our 8th year of Seven Sisters Festival. Together we enter a new 7-year cycle and with it many changes. 2020 will likely be our final year at Bay Park as we start preparing to move to a new site, a permanent home; to nurture and support generations of Seven Sisters women to come.

2

This new phase, has asked a deeper level of commitment, courage and risk and indeed these 3 points are the themes for this year’s festival. Considering our themes, I thought it appropriate to revisit the work of Bronnie Ware, an Australian palliative nurse who researched and published a book on the top 5 regrets of the dying. The top 5 regrets were these. 1. I wish I have the courage to live true to myself and not what others expected of me.

3. I wish I’d had the courage to express my feelings.

2. I wish I hadn’t worked so hard.

5. I wish that I had let myself be happier.

4. I wish I had stayed in touch with my friends.

There is such phenomenal clarity of vision and wisdom expressed by all these people at the end of their lives. Which point resonated for you? Can you let yourself be happier? Where and in which area of life can you deepen your commitment, show more courage, or gently push past boundaries to take risks that lead to your greater happiness and fulfilment?

This time at Seven Sisters is yours—let go and be happy. With love,

Lauren Woodman

MUSIC - THE HUB TANYA GEORGE Known for her huge vocal range, big hair and the release of Sonder last year, Tanya has touched audiences through her raw vocal-only performances. Infusing a cappella, beat boxing techniques with special effects creates her atmospheric and juicy compositions. Listeners will hear influences derived from indie soul to Middle Eastern and jazz scales mixed with her contemporary passionate delivery. “I use only vocals to symbolise something; it doesn’t matter what you are or who you are—we all have a right to speak!” http://www.tanyageorgemusic.com.au/

BURNCITY QUEENZ Burncity Queenz dances alongside the absolutely fabulous B.a.e Park—alter ego of vocalist Seri Vida—presenting a live explosion of sexy power, acrobatic dance and unapologetic bad gyal fury with our mix of afro-dancehall and hip hop swag.

54

LISA BAIRD Lisa Baird, affectionately known as ‘Lily Sparklechops’ is an Australian blues music deity. Blissful, beautiful, dirty and wicked— her music sits somewhere between a captivating 40s nightclub routine and the raw, reckless spirit of New Orleans street buskers. https://lilyandking.com

DJ Ego has rocked dancefloors all around the globe performing at Boom, Glastonbury and Prestige clubs in Ibiza called Plastic. With three world tours under her knife belt, this ChiKey lil pixie has also played the festival circuit around Australia over the last 12 years. https://www.reverbnation.com/rosiemisschiefband7

MUSIC - THE HUB KERRYN FIELDS If Ellen DeGeneres and Tracy Chapman had wanted Johnny Cash for a sperm donor, the result would have been Kerryn Fields. As it stands, she grew up surfing her parents’ vinyl collection, addicted to the radio, and trying to make light of the dark with her irrepressible humour. ‘A joyous presence’—TheMusic Kerryn Fields’ poignant and powerful songs, baritone brilliance and unassuming string-plucking virtuosity leave audiences transfixed, crying, hysterically laughing and dipping their fingers into all the layers of the universe—after which they lick them in public, because this life is kind of delicious. https://www.kerrynfields.com/

SUNNY RAY International singer/songwriter Sunny Ray creates soul-sustaining, heartfelt music to soothe and inspire. With themes about nature, the beauty of life, feminine empowerment, love, and being human, her music is a catalyst for deeper connectedness, positive change and emotional healing. With a unique acoustic soul, folk and roots flavour and playful nature, her music is great for the whole family. https://www.sunnyraymusic.com/

ECLECTICA Eclectica will present a 20-minute stage show experience that explores human emotions through animal archetypes. A compelling fusion of storytelling, various dance genres and embodied theatrical displays, created with the intention to open your heart and awaken you to a deeper creative potential. https://www.eclecticaperformance.com

PHILOSOPHIA Philosophia’s (formerly known as Sophia Sin) musical travelogue has seen her embark upon a path of creative independence and optimistic expression that is reflected in the art she weaves, both in the studio and out on the dancefloor. Gift wrapping sumptuously layered sounds which reflect her own voyage of artistic appreciation and digitally enhanced discovery.

55

MUSIC - THE HUB SHEELA DUESA

Deeply embodied in feminine power and unleashed in full spectrum. Dynamic Duo Femme Fatales—RIA Rhythms (DJ) and Adaja Black (LIVE VOCALS) channel the infinite goddess, enchanting crowds into the ether of universal source creation. Charge the listener with ecstatic primal energy. Uninhabited, raw and coming at you like a Celtic warrior queen on horseback. Are you ready to dive into the beauty? A genre-fusing theatrical performance of deep fun and cosmic journeying. Performing in 2019 at Earth Frequency, Elements Festival, Luminate Festival, Spirit fest Bali and NZ.

56

NORIKO TADANO WITH AKIKO YURA Noriko Tadano is an award-winning, virtuoso master of the Japanese shamisen (a 3-string, banjo-like instrument) and a traditional Japanese vocalist, who has performed all over the world. She has been playing shamisen since she was six years old and performs both as a soloist and in collaborations. Akiko’s very energetic drumming will captivate you and vibrate your soul. http://norikotadano.com/

JACQUI STERLING It’s the honesty in her music that draws the eye of the audience to the woman on stage. Jacqui’s Irish heritage has seen her play with all the big names to audiences all over Ireland and Australia. Joined by her sister Ciara Sterling and soul sister Melijah Coldora singing beautiful three-part harmonies, flute and keyboard imbue her Celtic roots music with a blend of progressive folk, acoustic soul and storytelling. The sweeping melodies, rhythmic guitar and lyrical honesty of her finely crafted songs ache with a passion, yet fragility that can awaken and ignite even the most weary of souls. https://jacquisterling.com/

57

MUSIC - CHAI TENT AISHAH ESPINOSA Outer Melbourne-based singer/ songwriter Aishah Espinosa is a relatively late bloomer in the world of music. She draws on her multi-cultural roots, using her loop machine, powerful vocals mixed with a driving desire to create her sound. A variety of genres, from tribal dance to soulful RnB, the result of which is a diverse spectrum of songs which will have you moving your feet one minute and holding back tears the next. A raw and passionate performer, her music and lyrics are written to heal and awaken the soul.

LOLA SOLA

MAXON Emerging pop queen MAXON is an artist from Melbourne, currently shaking audiences across the state with her trademark vocal and boundless songwriting talents. Her recent single ‘History’ is a powerful pop rock belter that reflects on a period of cyclic grieving, lamenting the ideas of a guaranteed love now proven to be condition. Those lucky enough to see MAXON live in the coming months will witness a stirring the Australian music scene is yet to encounter.
