An Open Letter of Thanks to the Arkansas Art Community!
A
rkansas has bloomed in recent years with new opportunities for people to enjoy and support the dynamic art scene. We live in a state that recognizes that supporting local artists for the public benefit is rewarding to the community and also gives opportunities to local professional talent. These efforts have fed the spiritual soul of Arkansas communities with private and public art. There is an awakening, a renaissance, and maybe a new appreciation for what art means to Arkansans. Now it is time for us to pause and give deep thanks to the art teachers, patrons, galleries, and organizations that have assisted us and supported our art work with exhibits, honors and acquisitions. We also give a special recognition to the Arkansas public institutions listed that have permanently collected and/ or exhibited our works.
Thank you all: it is great fun!

Baptist Health is Building for the Future
by Preparing New Leaders to Pave the Way
A
lmost four decades ago, the leaders of Baptist Health completed a brandnew hospital in the far reaches of western Little Rock that was accessible only by Kanis Road. While some questioned what appeared to be an out-of-the-way location for a new hospital, those leaders were literally building for the future of Baptist Health. Thanks to that foresight, Baptist Health’s largest campus is strategically located in the best place for a hospital in the state, which has in turn positioned Baptist Health to be the leading health-care system in Arkansas. Like those leaders in 1974, Baptist Health’s leadership team has a strategic plan that will position Baptist Health to deliver on its mission long into the future. As Baptist Health continues to prepare for future challenges, part of that plan is to develop great leaders who will continue to build on the system’s long-term success. In the past several years, Baptist Health has conducted focused leadership training to prepare its leaders to meet future challenges and responsibilities. As a result of these and other initiatives, Baptist Health’s senior leaders and its Board of Trustees recently identified several people within the management team to promote to positions with higher levels of responsibility. Doug Weeks has been named the new senior vice president of hospital operations. This new responsibility will allow for consolidation of overall management of Baptist Health’s seven hospitals into a single organizational structure. Troy Wells has been named the new senior vice president of administrative services, which will have the responsibility for oversight of a variety of Baptist Health support services that are vital to its hospitals and other system functions. These two new leadership positions are directly under Russ Harrington, Baptist Health’s president and CEO, who remains in Baptist Health’s top leadership position as
Russ Harrington President and CEO, Baptist Health
he has since 1984. “Like all of us, I hope to someday retire. However, I am not retiring as CEO of Baptist Health at this time nor in the near future,” Harrington said. “I will continue to work with our Board of Trustees and with senior leadership to prepare a capable, experienced group of leaders who are equipped to respond to the changing healthcare environment we face today as well as in the future,” he said.
“Like all of us, I hope to someday retire. However, I am not retiring as CEO of Baptist Health at this time nor in the near future.” — Russ Harrington In addition to the new roles for Weeks and Wells, several other changes have also been made in Baptist Health’s organizational structure. Greg Crain has been named the new vice president and administrator of Baptist Health Medical Center-Little Rock. Harrison Dean has added to his responsibilities as the administrator and senior vice president of
Baptist Health Medical Center-North Little Rock by additionally providing oversight responsibility of Baptist Health’s hospitals in Stuttgart, Heber Springs and Arkadelphia. Will Rusher has been named as the new vice president of Practice Plus and CEO of Arkansas Health Group. As an organization, Baptist Health will never stop improving. As the largest healthcare system in the state, it is focused on building for the future, delivering on its mission of providing quality patient services and responding to the changing health needs of Arkansans with Christian compassion, and fulfilling its promise to give All Our Best to every patient who seeks care at one of Baptist Health’s 175 access points throughout the state. The new leadership team is prepared and committed to maintain Baptist Health’s image of strength and trust, expand services and increase the population served, provide the highest quality of clinical care, develop leaders who will elevate the performance of the staff, and remain financially strong to acquire technology and promote innovation. aymag.com . 73
