OUTBACK ROAD SAFETY • When travelling in the Outback, make sure you have plenty of fuel, water, food and spare tyres.
From the south where Ironbark trees sit at the foot of the Yang Yang Ranges, to the majestic river red gums lining the Barcoo all the way to the north of our region where the Brolgas, Pelicans and Pink Cockatoos play on the Thomson River, these drives will allow you to experience the region in a way unlike any other. You may even catch a glimpse of the rare Yellow-Footed Rock wallaby or Bridle Nail-tail wallabies that call our region home.
• ALWAYS check road and weather conditions before leaving.
3
• Always observe local road condition signs. • Watch out for livestock and wildlife on the roads, particularly at dawn and dusk.
2
• If a road is accessible only by 4WD — use only 4WD. • Don’t forget to bring a hat, sunscreen and insect repellent. • Advise friends or family of your destination. • Obtain good road maps and plan your route. • Don’t forget to take regular breaks to prevent fatigue.
Discover the many historical sites along the drive, the remnants of the old town of Arrilalah, Twelve Mile Hotel and Stone Pitching, a Native Well or the World Famous Magee’s Shanty straight from the pages of Banjo Paterson’s ‘Bush Christening’. So visit more than just the Landsborough Highway, take the time and see what this beautiful country truly has to offer in the Heart of Outback Queensland.
