ABOUT ME I’m Laurent, a dreamer, a perfectionist and I use to doubt about what I’m doing to reach every time a result which can make me happy. I believe in hard work but not without hard fun. I believe in true love. Architecture is about ideas and drawings, about resolving problems and creating solutions. I think that ideas are one of the most powerful viruses for people. Once you know about something or see something, you will have this idea in your mind forever. I think it is important to understand what people like in architecture and surprise them with something more. I like to have my personal shape of mind but I know that we are always learning something new every day. 3

URBAN MOUNTAIN #LABORATORY OF FUN Typology: Laboratory of fun Location: Chicago, Illinois Size: 70.000 m2 Graduation TUDelft Complex Projects 2015
Urban Mountain is a new typology which aims to answer to one of the basic need for people: the need to have fun. Dealing with Chicago and its icons the Urban Mountain creates a new iconic building. It wants to be different and at the same time compete with the existing symbols of the city. The nature of Chicago, both as flat land and highrise built city, finds an unexpected situation within this building. Constant Nieuwenhuys with his ‘New Babylon’ 1959-74 created the habitat for the homo ludens, who, freed from labor, is looking for an architecture in which he can express its creativity and art. Cedric Price designed the ‘Fun Palace’ in 1964 as a social interactive machine. Following the vision of Littlewood for a dynamic and interactive theater, Price created one of the most innovative and creative proposals for the use of free time in postwar England. As homo sapiens we are basically defined by two natures: homo faber + homo ludens. The homo faber (the maker or nowadays the worker) has been for long time the target of architecture and technology. We always created the most efficient and innovative places or tools for working in such a way that the worker could be effective and be the perfect actor in the money based system. On the other hand due to different eras and politics it has always been difficult to answer with architecture to the needs of the homo ludens, so creating spaces where people can express their creativity and play. Through an analysis of today’s society and the context of Chicago this building aims to create a place where people can please their need to have fun. 8

M+ Typology: Museum Location: Hong Kong Size: 40.000m2 Msc2 Public Building 2014
The M+ Museum design aims to provide a full experience of Hong Kong in an extraordinary way. The tilted design makes a connection between the mountains of Hong Kong and the river, and creates an interesting space in the exhibition area. When walking passed the oval shaped facade of the exhibition area, the visitor can enjoy a 360 degrees view of Hong Kong. The oval shape en-closes the exhibition rooms. Several axis, which range over the full length of the floor plan make, a composition of the boxes and the atriums with the view of Hong Kong as a backdrop. The exhibition slab which wafel construction rests on large concrete foundations, is tilted to become a platform towards the harbour. The roof is tilted 8% so the skyline of the other side of Hong Kong becomes a podium for the audience on the roof. This roof can be used for recreational purposes and visitors can go to a theatre, restaurant terrace and workshop area. The floor of the exhibition space is tilted 5% to have a distorted feeling of perspective and space inside as well as under the slab. The roof and floor inside the rooms with the art collections are rectangular, creating a good space to display the pieces of art. The visitor will experience a clear difference between exhibition space and outside of the exhibition space each time he or she tres-passes to the next room. 26

LIVING ON CLOUDS Typology: urban planning of unused railway line, university containers residence Size: 15.000m2 Location: torino porta nuova, italy Urban design studio PoliTO 2012
The building is part of new Park which hosts different green areas and atmospheres. In the midst of the vegetation big structures rise up 25 meters above the ground level. The footprint of these megastructure is minimum at the park level meanwhile when the maximum height is reached the surface increases to its maximum. The building is made out of concrete sheets which make it look like an outline sign in the city skyline. Together these structures look like five clouds floating above the park. These infrastructures host separated public and private spaces. On the top of them a student area made up of containers hosts students who live and study looking at the city from 25 meters above the ground level. Inside the ‘clouds’ there are private spaces for students such as canteens, laundry rooms, but also semi-public facilities such as shops, restaurants and library. 38

ECO-FARM Typology: educational farm + restaurant and dwelling starting from ruins Size: 2.000m2 Location: novalesa, italy Design studio III PoliTO
The project aims to value the ancient village of Novalesa, a typical small village surrounded by the Alps. The combination of innovation and tradition is the key element of a new concept of this kind of environment. The eco-farm consists of three blocks, each one on a different height. The three buildings have a continuous steel cover. Underneath this unique element, there are separate houses which host different functions. The cover continues also on the sides of the buildings and develops into floor when touching the ground. In this way it creates a frame. The ruins are conserved and inside there will be new boxes in wood able to host the program and the structure. The lower building host the accommodation facilities: the reception, the conference room, the exhibition room and a little shop. The middle block is composed by apartments used by the people who run the farm, the workshop rooms and the dairy. Higher in the third part there are stables and rooms hosting tools for the garden and the meadows. The Project of the farm is part of a learning path that develops in whole Novalesa. 46

PHOTOMANIPULATION Collaborations with Daniel Wellington, Mahabis, Liv watches, Happy socks, Rhatischeban. Instagram: @l_o_r_y
Photography for me is one of the best way to make people look around them. Break routines, make the ordinary the extraordinary just by looking at how marvellous everyday things that surround us are. But I think there is something more than this. A picture can be the beginning of an adventure, a story or a dream. Photo manipulation for me is: what we see, beyond what the picture shows. 56
