When did you realize you loved art and wanted to be ‘an artist’? In 1998 after having a very unusual and spiritual dream. I was a late bloomer. Family and friends have told me that I was always creative and artistic growing up, but I had never considered myself artistic. I didn't pursue art until I was in my early 40's. Who has been the greatest influence from your past to mentor you to this career? My former husband was fantastic in his encouragement and my sister, who is a portrait artist, was patient with me in my many questions regarding various techniques. Who is your mentor today, or another artist you admire and why? There are so many artists that I admire. It's hard to name just one; Adam Vinson for his creativity, Ginger Fox for her surrealistic imagination, Robert C. Jackson for his humor, Scott Fraser for his quirkiness, Jeff Legg for his masterful compositions and Jos van Riswick for his superior ability to make you feel as though you are right there in the painting. What is your favorite surface to paint on? I've tried painting on wood, copper, masonite, silver and others, but I keep coming back to canvas. Linen is even better.

What brand of paints do you use? Old Holland and Gamblin oil paints. Do you have a favorite color palette? Mostly warm colors. What is your favorite color in your closet? It's a rainbow in there! I now realize I have a lot of purple hanging around. I never noticed until you made me look. What subject appears the most in your paintings and why? Mutilated, sliced and half eaten apples which represent the male form, and eggs and pears which are representative of the female. It's very therapeuticfor me and keeps me behaving nicely. How often do you paint? I usually paint 5 - 6 hours, 4 or 5 days per week. How would you like to be remembered? As a person who contributed much love and time to family.

When did you realize you loved art and wanted to be ‘an artist’? I have always loved art. I remember my first portrait I did of my mom's friend, Carol. Carol came over for coffee and to visit. I was extremely shy and didn't talk to people. Instead, I would draw pictures for them. Carol had bright red hair but I remember painting her with blue hair instead and even titling it The Lady With Blue Hair! Who has been the greatest influence from your past to mentor you to this career? It sounds so corny, but really, my husband has been my biggest influence because he stands behind me and what I do and has always supported me both financially and emotionally. I would not be at this point if it wasn't for him. Who is your mentor today, or another artist you admire and why? Kathryn McMahon has been my greatest art mentor, telling me what groups to join, what competitions to enter, and critiqing my work. She is a great artist, mentor and friend. What is your favorite surface to paint on? At the moment I am painting on birch wood that I have cut for me and then I prime it with gesso, sanding in-between coats. The texture is beautiful and smooth, with a hint of "tooth" to it. The boards are light and easy to frame or transport. I number the boards so that I see the goals I am achieving. I just passed my 600th painting on my blog. My new goal is to reach 1000.

What brand of paints do you use? In my paint box you would find various tubes of oil paints: Winsor and Newton, SoHo, Grumbacher, but my favorite brand is MGraham and Co Do you have a favorite color palette? My palette doesn't change much: Titanium White, Cad Yellow, Yellow Ochre, Cad Orange (sometimes) Aliz. Crimson, Perm. Rose, Thalo blue, cerulean blue, ultramarine blue, sap green, viridian green. I usually sketch in transparent red oxide, I love the beautiful warm undertones it gives. Sometimes I add cad lemon yellow, cad red, or cobalt blue. What is your favorite color in your closet?I recently discovered Thalo blue, It's saturation is gorgeous, but if you're not careful, it can get into everything and turn your whole painting blue. What subject appears the most in your paintings and why? I wouldn't say, I am drawn to a particular subject, I like variety. I also like to paint collections. Right now, I am focusing on Aspen Trees. How often do you paint? I paint everyday of the week. On weekdays, I paint from 8 until 2:00 and on the weekends, it is more, "on a whim". My husband converted a room into a large studio in our home, so it is easy for me to paint whenever I want. It is a great space: Lots of windows, and he added great overhead lighting, painted the walls a soft green and added a barn door. I love painting here! Every Thursday I paint outdoors. I am the coordinator for PAAC -Plein Air Artists of Colorado, the Southern area of Colorado. How would you like to be remembered? I would like to just BE remembered
