LAURA GRAY THEORY AND CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT SKETCHBOOK 3261986 LEVEL 6
-INITIAL RESEARCH-
Started off by lo oking at the Merz theory, this theory was discovered by Kurt schwitters who was a revolutionary postwar movement, he specialised in collages using this theory. This method is spotted everywhere to this date and is used a lot in graphics
I would like to apply this method to my designs because although the theory is old I think when manipulated it can lo ok really contemporary.
This was Kurt Schwitters art installation called The Hanover Merzbau, this installation was up from 1923-1936. It shows that his art can be translated into another medium and still portray the same message
How Merz could be used in graphics for page design the layout lo oks really busy, it can be toned down, although I feel it will lose its wackiness and message. Plus it would end up lo oking like any other constructed graphics.
Started to lo ok at Russian deconstruction art which is really busy to lo ok at and still has the war propaganda feel to it. Again the graphics are interesting but I don’t think they would work well as graphics as the image is to o much and simplicity is key with page design.
SHOWSTUDIO RESEARCH
Showstudio is the largest platform to fashion to be perceived the way the designer intended, in movement. Over the past 10 years the site has grown and developed to what it is today. Fashion photographer and now a pioneer in fashion film is the founder of showstudio and is doing some innovative work. Although showstudio is doing well, the site itself has not been amended for a while. So have decided to extent to the site to adapt to the techno-focused world that we are being brought up in.
These are examples of what I think to be modern and most used web page design, the most consumer friendly one I think would be the tile method as it lo oks great as a portfolio template, it’s clear and easy to understand, plus it makes the content interesting to view.
Other designs are great to lo ok at, but in my personal opinion they are not appropriate for portfolio design and they lo ok to busy.
Showstudio have a high-street shop in London which is used as a shop from selected content from the site. It is also used as exhibition space for designers to showcase work. Showstudio is mainly online so I think having a highstreet store is a go od way for the site to feel more personal to the consumer.
SHOWsutdio is known for its fashion film, it claims and rightly so to be the home of fashion film. There is not many places that have such a large archive of fashion film, all of them done so well. Fashion film is the future, says founder Nick knight and society needed a platform to be able to view them on. SHOWstudio has been doing this very well for over 10 year now.
Using the latest technology SHOWstudio offers a service to its users where they can get a front row seat to the latest catwalk shows
MARKET RESEARCH
SHOWstudio participate in all of the latest social media sites. Facebo ok, twitter Tumblr and Pinterest, this gives the site some depth and allows the viewers to see the site differently, the post information about showstudio and also content that is on the site. Allowing followers to get the information early.

-WEBPAGE DEVELOPMENT AND DESIGN-
WEBPAGE DESIGN
This is the home screen of the page SHAREstudio, the colour scheme is minimal and professional, it lo oks different to showstudio but it also have some familiarities
The visual will be randomized work from the achieve, starting with recent entries at the top, the layout will be a Tetris lo ok-a-like feel with the images slotting into one another, clicking on the image will direct the viewer to the user and or information
These grey columns are there to structure the webpage

This could be an editorial, painting, illustration graphics piece etc.
I’m sticking with the monochromic style as it lo oks really professional and the site works with all different gradients of black and grey so it’s easy to change here and there
When the user goes to create an account the screen that it appears on will overlap the home screen the home screen and the create account screen will be a low opacity so the page isn’t to o overwhelming
When the user has entered all the relevant information they will need to submit the form, then this will talk the user to the next section the user needs to fill in in order to go on.
This page will appear next after the user has submitted the create account section, this page will come up asking the user to select a few interests or all of them, there is no limit. As the site grows so will the amount of categories. A tick icon will appear in the top right hand corner when the category is selected the colours of the tick will reverse.
The user will need to scroll down to see more categories. After this section is done the user will need to click finish to go on to the next session

This is the final section of the create account part of the site, this section will be the same layout as the like interests, except the page will be about following users
Once again the home screen will have a low opacity so the focus is on the follow users section rather than the background image.
If the user goes on to the site and already has an account, they will need to go the login page
The logon page will lo ok like this, very similar to the create account page, just with different content. When the user is finished it will take them back to the home screen, where the home screen to change slightly to adapt to the user login- see next page for home screen change.

EVALUATIONThis unit really gave the opportunity to work within my specialism. It abled me to work more closely with Adobe software and really push my layout design skills. For me what worked well was arranging the layout of my online sketchbo ok and final designs of the webpage. The layout is consistent throughout the sketchbo ok and reflects well in the web and application. I feel my skills in Photoshop have advanced to the state where I can use the software without any supervision and or assistance. Other software that I would have liked to experiment with, which would have been really beneficial to my project is Adobe Muse. This webpage design software would have put my designs into a different dimension and really put it into perspective of how the user would have interacted with the site. The reason I didn’t get to use this software is because I found out about it to o late. I personally thought that two weeks was not enough time to learn how to use the software to the ability needed for my designs. Another aspect of this project that I am happy with is my market report design, the content could have been better but the design fitted the aesthetic of showstudio and flowed nicely. I did manage to make one error in the publication which was notices and marked. Unfortunately the error was founded after the publication was printed so there was nothing I could so with the time I had left, that being said I thought that I managed my time so much better than in the past. It still wasn’t up spec, but based on my past problems I thought it was a massive improvement. Overall I am happy with the outcome of this project. If there was one thing I would do differently, I would get my idea solid a lot earlier than I did, it would have been really beneficial to have those few extra weeks. If I had more time I would of liked to make a promotional video. This would go on SHOWstudio’s site to promote SHAREstudio.
