Never lets you down Today, we are comparing the top 3 contenders in the 4G Smartphone’s under ₹
segment. At the end of the comparison we will try to pick a winner from the lot based on power, software features and style statement.
1. LAVA X81 with VoLTE
A thing of beauty, this suave phone by LAVA has won us over by its classy design and the 2.5D glass curvature, making the phone a delight to hold and use. LAVA is known for putting that extra bit of effort in their phones' design language – the X81 is a
continuum of that philosophy and presents a symmetry that no other phone in this category does. Machine drilled speaker and microphone grills sit on either side of the micro USB charging port at the bottom. On the right side of the phone you get the standard Android Power and Volume Keys. The keys sit snugly in the chassis and have a good tactile feedback when pressed. The top of the phone only features the solitary 3.5mm headphone jack. Overall the build quality of the phone cries thoughtful aesthetic sense.

Display Quality

Never lets you down
The phone features a vivid 5" inch display with minimum bezels, colours really pop out while viewing photos and videos on the device. There are three capacitive touch buttons below the display, a welcome feature as compared to Android devices with onscreen touch buttons which can often take up some of the screen real estate. In addition, we are pleased to see LAVA providing Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection to the screen.
 Beautiful selfies
The LAVA device comes with 13-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front camera for selfies and video chat. Although the camera specs are same as the Xiaomi device, the picture quality is better and colour in photos and videos is much more balanced and accurate.

Never lets you down
The phone comes with a sealed-in 2700mAh Lithium Ion battery which can easily last more than a day with moderate usage. The X81 runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow and promises future updates to Android 7.0 which is another reason to buy this phone over the Xiaomi, whose track record of updates is a bit patchy.

2. Xiaomi Redmi 3S Prime
Our Second contender in the segment is Xiaomi Redmi 3S Prime. Launched in August 2016, the phone sports a 5" inch display with an HD display. Also in the mix is an Octacore Processor from Qualcomm which is supported by 3GB RAM and 32GB of internal memory to save your personal data. The Xiaomi device runs on Android 6.0.1 with their proprietary Mi UI out of the box and is powered by a non-removable battery that can hold 4100mAh of charge.

Connectivity in the Xiaomi is also ample, coming with a dual SIM setup, the phone supports 3G and 4G networks and has other standard connectivity options such as WiFi, Bluetooth, Infrared and FM Radio. A number of sensors are also present in the phone such as Compass Magnetometer, Proximity Sensor, Accelerometer, Ambient Light Sensor and Gyroscope. The Redmi 3S Prime features a 13-megapixel primary camera and a 5-megapixel selfie shooter; images are crisp and have decent color saturation. The phone's design takes cues from the typical Xiaomi design elements with nothing remarkable to write home about.
3. Micromax Yu Yureka Plus
Follow us:
Never lets you down
Largest of the bunch in terms of screen size, the Yu Yureka Plus comes with a 5.5" Full HD display, which can be quite taxing on the battery life considering that it also has the smallest battery of the lot at 2500mAh. Powered by yet another Octa-core processor by Qualcomm, the device comes with only 2GB of RAM, lagging behind its competition. It has a similar camera setup with 13 and 5-megapixel cameras on back and front respectively. The Yureka Plus supports 4G calling along with WiFi and Bluetooth. The device runs on Android Lollipop Cyanogen Mod 12 out of the box. This we feel is a real drawback as Cyanogen Mod is soon shutting shop and therefore future software updates for the Micromax phone are in jeopardy.
 Final thoughts
Considering value-for-money, the LAVA phone come out as a clear winner in our comparison for latest 4G mobiles in the budget category. The device's design also tips the scales in its favors, with a fresher and more up market look the LAVA outsmarts the Xiaomi Redmi 3S Prime and the Yu Yureka Plus from Micromax. Although coming out second in terms of battery capacity, the phone makes it up with its Android software sans the Mi UI on Xiaomi phone which is a known battery hog.
