• Torneo Internacional Land Rover de Polo R. M. SOTOGRANDE.- Valiente cabalga hacia la Triple Corona en el 43 Torneo Internacional Land Rover de Polo en Sotogrande. El equipo del argentino Adolfo Cambiaso, el mejor jugador del mundo, ya ha levantado las Copas de Bronce y Plata en Santa María Polo Club y es el conjunto a batir en la Copa de Oro Bulgari. La trayectoria del equipo estadounidense, patroneado por Bob Jornayvaz, es espectacular y busca hacer historia en su primera temporada en Sotogrande. Ellerston, Ayala Polo Team y Dos Lunas Espirito Santo son sus principales rivales para impedírselo. Valiente ha finalizado y alzado invicto los dos primeros trofeos. En la Copa de Bronce Isolas se impuso en la final por 11 a 7 a Ayala Polo Team. Mientras, en la Copa de Plata Silex, se deshizo con relativa comodidad de Ellerston, que defendía título, por 16 a 10 en las semifinales. En el partido decisivo se batió con el sorprendente Dos Lunas Espirito Santo, al que finalmente tumbó por 13 a 10. Cambiaso cuenta con dos escuderos de lujo -Santi Torres y Santi Laborde- para imponer su juego en las canchas de Los Pinos. Principales rivales Ayala Polo Team es otro de los equipos a tener en cuenta en esta Copa de Oro. El conjunto hispano-filipino, del patrón Íñigo Zobel, llega sin embargo al trofeo decisivo con un mal sabor de boca después de su inesperada derrota en las semifinales de la Copa de Plata ante Dos Lunas por 16 a 15. El equipo comandado por el uruguayo David Pelón Stirling cuenta con el favor del público en Santa María Polo Club, que

El manager de Valiente, Roberto Zedda, por su parte, no ocultó su satisfacción por los resultados del equipo y apuntó al objetivo de la Copa de Oro como último paso para la Triple Corona en Sotogrande. “No nos podemos quejar. Estamos jugando espectacular en Sotogrande. La idea es llevarnos la Triple Corona, ya tenemos dos de las copas”, indicó Zedda. Valiente mantiene la senda del triunfo en la Copa de Oro Bulgari tras vencer en el primer partido por 13 a 9 a Royal Salute. El pasado jueves tuvo una nueva prueba de fuego contra uno de los aspirantes, Ayala Polo Team, al que volvió a ganar por 11 a 10. El último partido antes de las semifinales será frente a HB dentro de la zona AB del torneo.
Cambiaso quiere seguir haciendo historia en el polo después de completar un 2013 inolvidable en su país, cuna de este deporte. El año pasado levantó por primera vez la Triple Corona en Argentina con su equipo La Dolfina tras ganar los Abiertos de Tortugas, Hurlingham y Palermo. En esta última plaza, considerada como la catedral del polo, alzó el que era su décimo título personal. El equipo que conquistó la final de Palermo estaba formado por Cambiaso, David Stirling, Pablo Mac Donough y Sebastián Merlos. Juan Martín Nero, también integrante de La Dolfina en la temporada argentina del año pasado, no pudo disputar este encuentro por lesión. Cambiaso quiere seguir batiendo récords y no lo va a tener fácil en la recta final de este torneo, considerado como el mejor de la historia de Sotogrande.

Ayala Polo Team comenzó bien el Torneo Internacional Land Rover al alcanzar la final de la Copa de Bronce, en la que cayó ante Valiente. Ahora, tras el tropiezo ante Dos Lunas en la de Plata, intenta reponerse en la Copa Bulgari en la que ha tenido un buen estreno. Los de Stirling vencieron con claridad al siempre difícil King Power -que venía de ganar la Copa Subsidiaria Tío Pepe contra Las Monjitas- en el partido inaugural. Ahora, tras el nuevo choque frente a Valiente, Ayala se tendrá que enfrentar a Lechuzas Caracas en busca de uno de los puestos de semifinales de la Copa de Oro en la zona AB. Pero si hay un equipo dispuesto a poner fin al reinado de Valiente en Sotogrande ése es Ellerston. El equipo australiano llegaba este año a Santa María con la responsabilidad de defender los títulos de las Copas de Oro y Plata logrados en 2013. Ellerston es el único conjunto del Torneo Land Rover que cuenta en sus filas con dos jugadores con handicap 10, los hermanos Facundo y Gonzalo

Pieres. La trayectoria de Ellerston en este torneo es engañosa, ya que no está teniendo todo el protagonismo que se merece pese a haber perdido solo un partido de momento. El equipo australiano no disputó la Copa de Bronce y, en la de Plata, llegó con facilidad a semifinales. Sin embargo, en este partido sufrió una clara derrota contra Valiente, lo que le ha dejado en un segundo plano. Una situación que están dispuestos a revertir. El conjunto de los hermanos Pieres anda con paso firme en

Valiente rides into the Triple Crown in Santa Maria Polo Club R. M. SOTOGRANDE.- Valiente rides into the Triple Crown in the 43rd Land Rover International Polo Tournament in Sotogrande. The team of Argentine Adolfo Cambiaso, the best player in the world, has already taken the Bronze and Silver Cups at the Santa Maria Polo Club and is the team to beat in the Bulgari Gold Cup. The American team’s past record, led by Bob Jornayvaz, is spectacular and aims to make history in their first season in Sotogrande. Ellerston, Ayala Polo Team and Dos Lunas Espirito Santo are their main rivals to stop them. Valiente finished undefeated and lifted the first two trophies. In the Bronze Isolas Cup Valiente defeated Ayala Polo team in the final by 11-7. Meanwhile, in the Silex Silver Cup, they shattered Ellerston’s attempts to defend their title with relative ease by 16-10 in the semi-finals. In the decisive match, they beat the surprising Dos Lunas Espirito Santo team, and went on to win by 13-10. Cambiaso has two young pros –Santi Torres and Santi

Cambiaso won the Triple Crown in Argentina last year with his team La Dolfina Laborde– to dictate play on the Los Pinos field. The Argentine player praised their work after the victory in the Silver Cup against Dos Lunas. “I am very happy. The Dos Lunas team has been very tough to beat. Santi Laborde, back, attacks everything sent to him. Santi Torres, when inspired, is an incredible player. He is only 20 years old is not just the most promising player for American but also world polo. I have the team, the organisation and the horses to continue on. I would like to try, with everything. I have, to continue wining here in Sotogrande”, stated Cambiaso. Valiente’s manager, Roberto Zedda, meanwhile, could barely contain his delight for the team’s results and is now aiming for the Gold Cup as the last final step towards the Triple Crown in Sotogrande. “We can’t complain. We are playing spectacularly in Sotogrande. The objective is to lift the Triple Crown; we already have

two of the cups”, Zedda stated. Valiente is on a winning streak in the Bulgari Gold Cup after winning the first game by 13-9 against Royal Salute. Last Thursday, the team faced a new crucial test against one of the hopefuls, Ayala Polo Team, who came back to win 11-10. The last match in pursuit of
the semi-finals will pitch them against HB in the AB zone of the tournament. Cambiaso wants to continue making history in polo after finishing an unforgettable 2013 in his country, the birthplace of this sport. Last year, he lifted the Triple Crown for the first time in Argentina with
his team La Dolfina after winning the Tortugas, Hurlingham and Palermo Open Championships. The latter considered the ‘Cathedral of Polo’ and where he took his tenth personal title. The winning team in the Palermo final was formed of Cambiaso, David Stirling, Pablo Mac Donough and Sebas-

The Stirling team resoundingly beat the always-difficult King Power, who had just won the Subsidiary Tío Pepe Cup against Las Monjitas, in the opening match. Now, after the shock against Valiente, Ayala will face Lechuza Caracas for one of the semi-final places in the Gold Cup in the AB zone. But if there is a team willing to put an end to Valiente’s reign in Sotogrande is Ellerston. The Australian team arrived in Santa Maria this year with the aim of defending their 2013 Gold and Silver Titles. Ellerston is the only team of the Land Rover Tournament that has in its ranks two players with handicap 10, the brothers Facundo and Gonzalo Pieres. Ellerston’s track record in this tournament is misleading, as its not receiving all the attention the team deserves despite having only lost one match so far. The Australian team did not dispute the Bronze Cup, and in the Silver Cup, reached the semi-finals with ease. However, in the match they suffered a clear defeat against Valiente, which left

them in the background. A situation there are ready to reverse. The team of the Pieres brothers are steadily progressing in the Bulgari Gold Cup and leading the CD zone with a view toward the semi-finals. In the first match they easily got rid of La Indiana by 1610; whilst last Wednesday they did the same thing in their second match against Dos Lunas -finalist of the Silver Cup- by 16-11. Their last match will

liente throughout the match. Now in the Gold Cup, Dos Lunas has both a win and a loss. In another comeback, they lost to RH by 12-11 in the first match, whilst the second they lost against Ellerston. Dos Lunas will fight for the semi-final of the CD zone against Halcyon Gallery in the third match. Both have the same points, just like RH and La Indiana who are also focussing on progressing to the next round.

Hasta seis equipos cuentan con opciones, después de que ninguno haya podido repetir final en los dos trofeos anteriores en Sotogrande. En la Copa de Bronce llegaron a la final Leones y FCT, llevándose el título el primero de ellos por 12 a 9. El equipo pe-

Huntsman parte como claro favorito en bajo handicap al llegar invicto al máximo trofeo ruano, sin embargo, no pudo repetir final en la Copa de Plata, en la que se enfrentaron Equus y Seven Sevens, con triunfo de los alemanes frente a los rusos por un ajustado 10 a 9. A falta de la tercera jornada de la Copa de Oro, cinco equipos están invictos con dos victorias en su casillero y apuntan a las semifinales. Se trata
de Equus, Seven Sevens, Mahra Esperanza, Silex y FCT; que compiten por las cuatro plazas. Leones, que llega con una victoria y una derrota, también tiene opciones. Tendrá que vencer en el último partido a Dragones y esperar los resultados de los otros encuentros. Al igual que con Valiente en la máxima categoría, en el bajo
handicap también hay un dominador absoluto hasta la fecha. Se trata de Huntsman, que ya ha alzado las Copas de Bronce y Plata y busca la Triple Corona. La formación que integran Aristide Faggionato, Dillon Bacon, Felipe Gómez e Iván Maldonado ganó la final de Bronce ante Silex por 7 a 6; y repitió victoria en la de Plata contra Serdeñola
por 12 a 9. Estas tres formaciones han empezado bien la Copa de Oro con victorias y apuntan a las semifinales. La cuarta plaza de esta ronda se la jugarán entre Kazak Shakib, Bayswater y Valdeparras Marqués de Torneros. La diferencia de goles puede ser decisiva para decidir los enfrentamientos de las semifinales.

As no one has been able to play in another final in the two previous trophies in Sotogrande, up to six teams have chances of taking the title. In the Bronze Cup, Leones and FCT reached the final, and clinched the title, the first of which by 12-9. The Peruvian team, however, did not play in another final in the Silver Cup, in which they faced Equus and Seven Sevens, with a victory for the Germans against the Russians by a narrow 10-9. In the absence of a third day in the Gold Cup, five tea-

The formation, made up of Aristide Faggionato, Dillon Bacon, Felipe Gómez and Iván Maldonado, won the the Bronze final against Silex by 7-6, and another victory in the Silver Cup against Serdeñola by 12-9. These three formations have started well in the Bulga-
ri Gold Cup with further victories, and are aiming now for the semi-finals. The fourth place of this round will be played between the teams Kazak Shakib, Bayswater and Valdeparras Marqués de Torneros. Goal difference may prove to be decisive in deciding the semi-final clashes.

a Final de la Copa de Plata Silex del 43 Torneo Internacional Land Rover de Polo, uno de los premios más importantes del circuito del polo mundial, atrajo a un numeroso público a las instalaciones del Santa María Polo Club en Sotogrande. Como ya se comprobó en los días anteriores, la llegada de la alta competición supone también la visita a las canchas y zonas aledañas de algunos de los rostros más conocidos de la sociedad y la prensa rosa españolas. Fue el caso de Cayetano Martínez de Irujo, que aprovechó el partido para acercarse al restaurante Palenque, de Sodexo Prestige, que ofrece entre sus delicias el aceite y productos Casa de Alba. Todo un lujo para los paladares más exigentes que disfrutan cada noche del servicio y la cocina de Palenque. El Conde de Salvatierra, que lleva de manera personal la gestión y desarrollo de los productos Casa de Alba, no dudó en atender a los medios y detallar los artículos de la marca que ya están en el mercado; y de aquellos otros que podrán disfrutare en el futuro. En el After Polo, el protagonismo fue para Bimba y Charlie, pareja profesional y sentimental, que puso el ritmo a una de las noches más movidas del Torneo Internacional Land Rover. Bimba Bosé y su actual pareja, Charlie transmitieron su energía a todos lo que se acercaron a conocerlos y saludarlos. Durante la Grey Goose White Party, el artista Víctor Jerez pintó un lienzo
con el rostro de Bimba y detalles de la marca de vodka que ejercía de gran anfitriona. El artista algecireño, que lleva varios veranos amenizando las noches del Santa María pintando en directo y ante el público, contó que regaló el retrato a Bimba Bosé. “Me comentó que le encantaba, que era uno de los mejores retratos que le habían hecho en su vida, y quise regalárselo”, señaló el pintor.
Víctor Jerez manifestó estar muy satisfecho con el trabajo que está realizando en Sotogrande. “Me gusta mucho interactuar con el público, que se acerque y me pregunte. A alguna gente le parece increíble que en un par de horas o tres pueda terminar un cuadro”, aclaró el artista, quien suele utilizar como motivo para la pintura los colores de la fiesta, o la presencia de algún protagonista, como ocurrió con Bimba Bosé.

he Final of the Silex Silver Cup of the 43rd Land Rover International Polo Tournament, one of the most important awards of the world polo circuit, attracted a large audience in the grounds of the Santa María Polo Club in Sotogrande. As seen in previous days, the arrival of the top-level competition also included a visit to the grounds and surrounding areas from the most well known faces of Spanish society and gossip magazines. Cayetano Martinez de Irujo visited the Palenque Restaurant, of Sodexo Prestige, which offers amongst its delicacies, Casa de Alba Oil and Produce. Everything a luxury for the most discerning of palates that every night savour the Palenque service and cuisine. The Conde of Salvatierra, who personally leads the management and development of the Casa de Alba produce, did not hesitate to address the media and elaborate on the brand’s produce currently available in the market, and those that may be enjoyed in the future. Happy and relaxed, he stated that he had been visiting his mother in San Sebastian during the holiday period, and that he wished to travel to Berlin where his girlfriend, the swimmer Melani Costa, is competing for medals in the European Swimming Championships. Amongst the 6000 people in attendance, other visitors also attended, like Jaime de Marichalar with his children, Victoria and Felipe. The former husband of the Infanta Elena not only came to see the great polo match that was bring played, but also took the opportunity to walk among the grounds whilst his children played with their family and friends. The Grand Final of the Silex Silver Cup, which pitted the undefeated American Valiente team, led by Polo Number 1, Adolfo Cambiaso against Spaniards Dos Lunas, Pascual Sainz de Vicuña and Luis Domecq was also attended by a number of social and business personalities like Patrick Hermes, Inés Domecq, Jose Manuel Entrecanales, Juan March and Astrid Muñoz amongst the large attending audience on the fields of the Santa María Polo Club. For the After Polo entertainment, the main role went to Bimba and Charlie, a business and personal partnership, who set the pace for one of the most animated nights of the Land Rover International Tournament. Bimba Bosé and her boyfriend Charlie, channelled their energy to all those who came to meet and greet them. The model and designer was very friendly throughout, allowing photos to be taken with those who had come for their DJ Show. Bimba Bosé said that she was excited about taking her textile project forward with her boyfriend and that, despite her delicate state of health, she was determined to move forwards. colours for the private party that featured an entertaining photo call with fancy-dress clothing on offer. During the Grey Goose White Party, the artist Victor Jerez painted a canvas with Bimba’s face and aspects of the vodka brand that acted as a great host. The algecireño artist, who has spent many summers livening up the nights of the Santa María Club by painting live and before an audience, explained and
gave a portrait to Bimba Bosé. “She told me that she loved it, that it was one of the best portraits that had been made for her in her life, and I wanted to give it to her” stated the painter. Victor Jerez said he was very pleased with the work he was doing in Sotogrande. “I love interacting with members of the public who come up and ask. Some people think it is amazing that in a couple of hours a painting can be
made”, said the artist, who often uses party colours or the presence of a celebrity, like Bimba Bosé, as inspiration for his paintings. The fact that Bimba Bosé accepted the painting, and has commented about it on social media has brought a great attention to his work. “It has generated lots of publicity, and I am really excited about everything that is happening,” said the artist, and who is receiving nu-

LA VERDAD SOTOGRANDE.- La embarcación ‘Estepona.com’ levantó el pasado fin de semana la XV Copa Sotogrande Rives de vela, puntuable para el Campeonato de Andalucía de Cruceros ORC. La prueba, organizada por el Real Club Marítimo de Sotogrande (RCMS), cosechó un rotundo éxito y situó a la urbanización sanroqueña como referente del deporte náutico a nivel regional. La XV Copa Rives contó con la participación de 32 barcos, 12 de ellos ORC y el resto monotipos. La regata no arrancó con buen pie el pasado viernes 15 de agosto ya que la falta de viento y la densa niebla obligó
a suspender las pruebas previstas. El sábado el levante sopló con algo más de fuerza y los participantes pudieron zarpar y completar algunas mangas. El plato fuerte llegó en la última jornada, la del domingo 17, que se presentó con un viento bastante aceptable para efectuar las últimas pruebas de las distintas clases. En total se pudieron dar tres mangas para monotipos J80 y Tom28Max y para los cruceros ORC se dio la tradicional regata costera hasta Gibraltar. El comité de regatas dirigido por el oficial Juan Luis Cervera dio en primer lugar la salida a los cruceros ORC, los cuales tenían en juego la puntuación para el Campeonato de

Andalucía de esta clase. En la general, el ganador fue el ‘Estepona.com’ del armador Estepona Web, S.L. y patroneado por Javier Rodríguez del Club de Regatas Costa del Sol. En segundo lugar quedó clasificado el barco ‘Amor Fati’ del armador Rafael Ruiz Ramírez del C.M. Benalmádena y patroneado por él mismo; y en tercera posición el barco ‘Titicaca’ del armador y patrón Graham Cox del RCMS. El viento fue constante durante el recorrido costero y permitió que la prueba se desarrollara en un tiempo óptimo. Respecto a los monotipos J80, el barco ‘Herbalife’ de los armadores Juan Luis Páez y Pepequin Orbaneja, del Real Club
Marítimo Sotogrande, consiguió alzarse con la XV Copa Sotogrande Rives, ya que realizó una regata formidable llegando a ganar en tres de las cuatro pruebas que se disputaron durante toda la regata. En segundo lugar quedó el barco ‘Oxital’ de los armadores Carlos Latapia y Alejandro Díaz del Real Club Marítimo Santander; y en tercer lugar finalizó el barco ‘Intention’ del armador Bevelle Náutica del C.N. Bevelle. En la clase Tom28Max el ‘Brabante’, de los armadores Rafael Benjumea y Javier García Carranza, fue el ganador de esta edición de la regata en Sotogrande. En segundo lugar acabó la embarcación ‘Pink Floid’ del armador Enri-
que Benjumea y, cerrando el podio, la embarcación ‘Trocadero’ del armador Guillermo Olaso. El domingo por la noche, Trocadero Sotogrande organizó un cóctel, donde familiares y amigos pudieron disfrutar de una agradable velada de entrega de trofeos para las tres categorías. Esta regata, que año tras año organiza el RCMS, se ha convertido ya en un clásico dentro de la temporada vera-

niega. Ha sido comentario generalizado la buena organización y la eficiencia del comité de regatas que ha dirigido este año la consecución de las distintas pruebas. El responsable de Comunicación del RCMS, Javier Molina, explicó a este periódico que la regata este año ha ido “bastante bien”. Molina destacó la ausencia de protestas entre los participantes. “La regata ha sido muy limpia. Llevo quince años con este tipo de pruebas y creo que ha sido la más ordenada. Y ello pese a la austeridad a la que nos hemos visto obligados en esta edición por la crisis”, manifestó Molina, que destacó la excelente labor del oficial de regata Juan Luis Cervera.
El responsable de Comunicación del RCMS se congratuló por el buen desarrollo del que era el evento del año para la entidad. Ahora, el RCMS se prepara para participar en el mes de septiembre en la Regata Interclubs para cruceros que se desarrolla en la zona con pruebas en Algeciras, Estepona o Ceuta. Asimismo, también el próximo mes se disputa la Regata en Solitario y a Dos, entre Sotogrande y Ceuta, para cruceros. Molina insistió en que el objetivo del RCMS es romper con la estacionalidad con actividades durante todo el año, que tendrán su continuidad en invierno con la Liga de Tom28Max, una de las flotas propias del RCMS junto a los J80.

LA VERDAD SOTOGRANDE.- Last weekend, the vessel ‘Estepona.com’ lifted the XV Sotogrande Rives Sailing Cup, scoring points for the ORC Cruiser Andalusia Championships. The race, organised by the Sotogrande Royal Maritime Club (RCMS), was a resounding success and set the San Roque region as a benchmark example for nautical sport at regional level. 32 ships participated in the XV Rives Cup, 12 of them ORCs and the rest monotypes. The regatta did not get off to a good start last Friday 15th August, as a lack of wind and dense fog forced the organisers to suspend the planned races. On Sa-
turday, a strong easterly wind blew in and participants were able to set sale and compete numerous circuits. The undoubtable highlight took place on the final day, Sunday 17th, when with a more than acceptable wind, the final races for the various classes took place. In total three circuits took place for the J80 and Tom28Max monotypes, and the ORC cruisers competed in the traditional coastal regatta towards Gibraltar. The regatta committee led by official Juan Luis Cervera firstly signalled the start for the ORC cruisers, with scores at stake for the Andalusia Championship for this class. On the whole, the winner

On Sunday night, Trocadero hosted a cocktail party, where family and friends were able to enjoy a charming evening awards ceremony for the three categories. This regatta, organised year after year by the RCMS, has already become a highlight of the summer season. There has been widespread praise for the organisation and efficiency of the regatta committee who have this year organised the various races. RCMS Head of Communications, Javier Molina, told this
newspaper that this year’s regatta has been “pretty good”. Molina noted the absence of any protests amongst the participants. “The regatta has been very clean. I have spent fifteen years doing these races and I believe it has been the smoothest. This, despite the austerity with which we have been faced this year due to the economic crisis” stated Molina, who also highlighted the exce-

llent work of race official Juan Luis Cervera. RCMS Head of Communications was pleased with the smoothing running of the events and it was the event of the year for the organisation. The RCMS is now preparing for the Interclubs Cruiser Regatta to take place in the region in September, with races in Algeciras, Estepona and Ceuta, and similarly, next month in the Solo and Duo Cruiser Regattas between Sotogrande and Ceuta. Molina insisted that the aim of the RCMS is to break the seasonal order with activities throughout the year and that will continue into winter with the Tom28Max League, one of its own fleets together with the J80s.

El puerto se prepara para la llegada de la Copa J80 de España El Club Naútico Bevelle vuelve a encargarse de la organización de una competición que tendrá, en este mismo escenario, la celebración del Campeonato de España en 2015 y del mundo en 2016 Y. Olivares SOTOGRANDE.- Si el Club Naútico Bevelle tuviera sede, que la tendrá en poco tiempo, y la visitáramos, podríamos ver todo el trabajo que se está realizando para la celebración de la Copa de España de J80 Puerto de Sotogrande. El CN Bevelle, en colaboración con Puerto Sotogrande, la firma de Servicios Náuticos Bevelle Náutica y Varadero Sotogrande, se embarcan, valga la expresión, en la organización de una competición de vela, esta vez la J80, que tendrá lugar entre los días tres y seis de septiembre en el Puerto de Sotogrande. Nacho Cifuentes, project manager de Gestión de Varaderos del Sur, y responsable del club Naútico Bevelle, anda estos días liado con la logística y la preparación de un campeonato nacional en el que podrían participar entre 25 y 30 barcos. Tras la exitosa experiencia de la RC44, el pasado mes de junio, ahora toca afrontar una competición ligada a la vela recreativa y ligera. “A pesar del poco tiempo que llevamos, conseguimos la celebración de la RC44 y luego nos aprobaron el proyecto para la organización de la Copa de España de J80 este año, el Campeonato de J80 de España en 2015, y del mundo en 2016. Estamos muy contentos y satisfechos”, comenta Nacho Cifuentes. La tripulación de un J80 la componen entre cuatro y cinco personas. Su número final depende del peso global que sumen y que no debe sobrepasar los 338,60 kilos de peso. Es un barco que mide ocho metros de eslora y 2,49 de manga. “Esta competición, a diferencia de la RC44, es mucho más asequible, puesto que el J80 es un barco en el que participan tripulaciones amateur, más acostumbradas a una vela de recreo. En el RC44 los presupuestos son más elevados porque los equipos y las tripulaciones son más profesionales. En el campeonato que vamos a celebrar en septiembre, en apenas unas semanas, nos vamos a encontrar con grupos de amigos que forman un equipo y salen a navegar como forma de ocio o entretenimiento”, explica el project manager. Los interesados en la J80 pueden encontrar toda la información acerca de la documentación y logística de la competición en la página web que se ha habilitado para la Copa de España de J80 en el Puerto de Sotogrande. el Campeonato de España pertenecen a la flota local: la J80 Puerto Sotogrande, compuesta actualmente por un total de 12 embarcaciones. Una vez se dispute la competición, la flota amarrada en el puerto deportivo volverá al IV Circuito Nh Resorts J80, que se iniciará el próximo mes de octubre. Este circuito es lo que se conoce como liga local, que se desarrolla durante todo el año, y que en el pasado mes de julio concluyó con Herbalife como ganador, por tercer año consecutivo, dejando el segundo puesto para el NH Almenara, y el tercero para el PAS Team. da para las futuras citas”, declaró el armador del barco, un satisfecho Pepequin Orbaneja tras lograr el tercer puesto. Logística en tierra El escenario en tierra estará situado en la ribera del Marlin, donde está amarrada la flota
local, y donde se ha ubicado la que será la futura sede del Club Naútico Bevelle. La organización montará una carpa, junto a la oficina de la competición, donde se atenderá a los regatistas. Además, en esta misma zona, uno de los bares instalados allí será el encargado de
proporcionar a las tripulaciones la comida y bebida que necesiten. En los próximos días se espera que empiecen a llegar los barcos procedentes de otros puntos del país, y será entonces cuando el puerto de Sotogrande se llene del ambiente propio de la competición.

OLIVARES SOTOGRANDE.- If the Bevelle Nautical Club had a head office, which it will soon have, and we visited it, we would be able to see all the work that is being done to organise the J80 Spanish Cup in the Sotogrande Port. The Bevelle Nautical Club, in collaboration with Puerto Sotogrande, the nautical services firm Bevelle Náutica and Varadero Sotogrande, embark, as it were, on organising a sailing competition; this time the J80 competition that will take place between the 3rd-6th September in the Sotogrande Port. Nacho Cifuentes, project manager for the management of the southern slipways, and Bevelle Nautical club manager, is busy these days with the logistics and preparation of a national championship in which between 25 and 30 boats could participate. Following the successful experience of the RC44 last June, he now faces a competition for recreational and light sailing. “Despite the short time we had, we secured the RC44 competition and then they approved the plan for the organisation of the J80 Spanish Cup this year, the J80 Spanish Championships in 2015, and the World Championships in 2016. We are very happy and pleased”, said Nacho Cifuentes. The crew of a J80 comprises of four to five people. Its final number depends on the overall weight and that that doesn’t exceed 336.60 kgs. The ship is eight meters long and 2.49 meters wide. “This competition, unlike the RC44, is much more accessible since the J80 boat allows amateur crews more accustomed to recreational sailing to participate. In the RC44 the budgets are higher because the teams and crews are more professional. The championship to take place in September, in just a few weeks, will see groups of friends who will form teams and go sailing for entertainment and training” explains the project manager. Those interested in the J80 can find all the information regarding documentation and the logistics of the competition on the web that has been created for the Spanish J80 Cup. Many of the boats participating in the Spanish Championship belong to the local fleet: the J80 Sotogrande Porto currently composes a total of 12 boats. Once the championship takes place, the fleet moored in the marina will return to the IV Nh Resorts J80 Circuit, which will

El golf dejó ingresos por valor de 41,5 millones de euros en 2013 LA VERDAD SOTOGRANDE.-El alcalde de San Roque, Juan Carlos Ruiz Boix, y la teniente de alcalde delegada de Turismo, Dolores Marchena, dieron a conocer una serie de datos que revelan que la práctica del golf en el municipio generó en 2013 unos ingresos cercanos a los 20 millones de euros. Cifra que alcanzó los 500 millones de euros en toda la comunidad autónoma andaluza. Como en San Roque se ubican nueve de los 108 campos de

No obstante, predominan los europeos y, sobre todo, los británicos golf andaluces, extrapolar las cifras regionales supondría un dato aún mayor, subiendo hasta los 41,5 millones de euros. Marchena destacó que estos ingresos pueden quedarse cortos, ya que el negocio inmobiliario y hostelero ligado al golf es también muy importante. “Algunos hoteles han señalado que más del 60 por ciento
de sus clientes eligen sus instalaciones porque vienen a San Roque a practicar el golf, a lo que habría que sumar lo que gastan estos turistas en restaurantes y otros negocios, no sólo de San Roque sino también de los municipios vecinos”, declaró la edil. Según manifestó, tanto ella como los técnicos de la delegación de Turismo son
conscientes de esta realidad, y por eso la información sobre los campos de golf es una pieza fundamental cada vez que acuden a las distintas ferias turísticas internacionales. Respecto a las nacionalidades de los clientes de los clubes, la teniente de alcalde informó que responden a un total de 27 países de todo el mundo, si
bien predominan los europeos, en especial los británicos. Las encuestas realizadas hablan de que la crisis ha afectado también a este turismo, en especial en lo relativo al negocio inmobiliario. De hecho, algunos campos han tenido que rebajar los precios de los green fees, e incluso empezar a cobrarlos a sus socios.

En cuanto a la mejora del negocio prevista para este año, es difícil dar un porcentaje, porque la realidad de estos establecimientos es dispar. Así, los que se nutren principalmente de las cuotas de sus socios y abonados estiman que este incremento será mínimo, de entre el uno y el tres por ciento, pero otros clubes hablan incluso de una subida de hasta el 15 por ciento. Este visitante se caracteriza, según el citado estudio, por una estancia media de 12,8 días, gastando más 86
euros al día. Este segmento repercute en otros como la restauración y las compras. Es curioso que el 66 por ciento de los turistas encuestados afirman que su única motivación para visitar Andalucía es la práctica del golf. Durante su estancia en la región recorren tres campos distintos de media, y dan una nota alta al destino turístico andaluz: un 8,8 sobre 10.

Desde que comenzara el mes de agosto, han sido cuatro las competiciones que ya han tenido lugar en el complejo ubicado junto a Trocadero Sotogrande. La afluencia de jugadores sigue siendo muy buena, llegando, por ejemplo, a las 110 parejas inscritas en la primera edi-
ción del Torneo Sotogrande. Además, este trofeo contó con la asistencia, en la entrega de premios del ex tenista Manuel Santana. El palmarés de dicho torneo quedó de la siguiente manera. En Masculino A el primer puesto fue para German Shaffer y Daniel Dios; en Femenino A, la pareja ganadora estuvo compuesta por Sonia Ros y María Martín Peña; en la categoría mixta, el primer puesto lo alcanzaron Carmen Azcoitia y José Antonio Vela; en la modalidad de alevines triunfaron Herberto Gut

Música y arte al atardecer La Plaza de los Naranjos se convirtió en el escenario ideal para el espectáculo El reino de las musas, un montaje en el que los asistentes pudieron contemplar el proceso de creación de un cuadro de manos del artista José Manuel Gamero. Pedro Monty, pianista y arreglista, acompañó al piano

laza de los Naranjos. Puerto Deportivo Sotogrande. Ha caído el sol. De pronto, el silencio se hace entre el público. Empieza a sonar My way, de Frank Sinatra. Al piano, Pedro Monty, pianista, compositor y arreglista que, con este clásico de 1969 da comienzo al espectáculo El reino de las musas. Una performance donde piano y pintura se dan la mano gracias a la presencia, en el mismo espacio, del artista José Manuel Gamero Gil, que es el encargado de dar vida a dos de sus obras al ritmo de la música interpretada por Pedro Monty. Los responsables, y culpables, de esta bonita puesta en escena son Mosayko Arte Música y la Asociación Cultural Sotogrande. Carmen Jiménez y Adrian van Loon, portavoces de ambas entidades, respectivamente, han logrado una vez más convertir la Plaza de los Naranjos en lugar para la cultura, la música y el arte. En esta ocasión, música y pintura se unieron para satisfacer al público que se acercó hasta allí y que disfrutó oyendo las diferentes interpretaciones del pianista; y presenciando, en directo, el proceso de creación de una obra de arte. Clásicos como Bésame mucho, de Consuelito Velázquez, o Let it be, acompañaron al pintor en las diferentes etapas creativas por las que José Manuel Gamero Gil iba pasando hasta terminar cada una de sus obras. El público, interesado en ver cómo se desarrollaba el espectáculo, no paró de hacer fotos y grabar vídeos para poder enseñar a amigos y familiares lo que allí estaba sucediendo. En las caras de Adrian van Loon y Carmen Jiménez se podía ver la satisfacción del trabajo bien hecho. En su intervención, Van Loon agradeció a la familia Hinves, que cedió el piano de cola, su colaboración; y destacó el valor de esta novedosa puesta en escena que será presentada en Alemania el próximo otoño. Quienes acudieron a la Plaza de los Naranjos, además de contemplar numerosas obras de arte repartidas por todo este espacio; también degustaron vinos y aperitivos que llegaron de la mano de Pinna Fidelis y Extra Natural. Todo un lujo, en una tarde preciosa.

laza de los Naranjos. Sotogrande Marina. The sun has set. Suddenly, there is silence in the audience. My Way by Frank Sinatra starts playing. On the piano, Pedro Monty, pianist, composer and arranger, who, with this 1969 classic, started the ‘The Kingdom of the Muses’ show. A performance where piano and painting go hand in hand thanks to the artist José Manuel Gamero Gil, who is responsible for giving life to two of his works to the beat of the music played by Pedro Monty. Those responsible for this miseen-scene are Mosayko Art Music and the Sotogrande Cultural Association. Carmen Jiménez and Adrian van Loon, spokespersons of both companies respectively, have managed once again to turn the Plaza de los Naranjos of Sotogrande Marina into a place for culture, music and art. On this occasion, music and painting came together to please members of the public who attended, and they enjoyed listening to the different performances from the pianist; and witnessing, live, the process of creating a work of art. Classics like Bésame mucho, from Consuelito Velázquez, and Let it be, accompanied the painter at the different creative stages that José Manuel Gamero Gil was going through to finish each of his works. Members of the public, interested in seeing how the show unfolded, did not stop taking pictures and videos to show family and friends what was taking place. Satisfaction for a job well done could be seen on the faces of Adrian van Loon and Carmen Jiménez. In his speech, Van Loon thanked the Hinves family, who gave their grand piano, for their collaboration; and highlighted the value of this innovative mise-en-scene that will be on show in Germany this autumn. Those who attended the Plaza de los Naranjos of Sotogrande Marina, in addition to providing numerous works of art scattered throughout the space: also tasted wines and appetizers made by Pinna Fidelis and Extra Natural. A real treat for this beautiful evening in Sotogrande.

Los volaores, tradición linense Cada verano las calles de la barriada de La Atunara se llenan de puestos donde se vende este pescado secado al sol. Un barco puede capturar hasta 10.000 ejemplares durante la temporada, que dura un mes
E
xiste una tradición en La Línea que se remonta hasta donde alcanza la memoria. Dicen los vecinos de La Atunara que nació con la propia barriada. Se trata de los volaores, ese pescado secado al sol que se vende cada verano en las calles de este rincón marinero. La temporada empieza con la Feria de La Línea, a mediados de julio, y dura alrededor de un mes. Una veintena de barcos pesqueros de La Atunara se echa al mar para capturar esta especie, denominada así por los saltos que dan con sus aletas. La pesca se realiza de forma artesanal con redes a la deriva. Cada embarcación suele coger entre 6.000 y 10.000 volaores. Una vez en tierra, llega el momento del secado. Primero se les corta la cabeza y se les quitan las tripas. Una vez limpios se salan y se cuelgan al sol. Llega entonces una de las estampas más características de La Atunara, la de las calles y azoteas llenas de volaores colgados de los cordeles. Francisco tiene uno de los característicos puestos callejeros donde vende los volaores. Lleva unas cuantas temporadas dedicándose a esta tradición y en ésta ha capturado unos 6.000 ejemplares. Francisco explica que el proceso de secado depende del viento. Así, si es poniente, el volaor tarda tres días para estar listo para el consumo. Si es levante, requiere el doble de tiempo para que esté curado. Al principio de la temporada, cuando empiezan a verse los primeros volaores en la calle, el precio por unidad suele estar en 2,5 euros. Luego, según va avanzando agosto, el precio va reduciéndose hasta llegar al euro por volaor. “Los volaores llevan vendiéndose desde que existe La Atunara. Se pesca artesanalmente y, si está bien salado, puede aguantar en la nevera todo el año al igual que la mojama”, explica Francisco. A estas alturas de verano la pesca del volaor ya ha concluido y los vendedores sacan a la calle sus últimas existencias. Ahora es el turno de la temporada de la melva en La Atunara. Francisco afirma que los volaores requieren mucho trabajo y que apenas da para subsistir en verano. En su elaboración participan desde los tripulantes de los barcos que los capturan hasta los familiares de éstos que se dedican a la limpieza de los pescados. Venta callejera Juani lleva siete veranos dedicándose al volaor. Su puesto está pegado a la playa de La Atunara, junto a los barcos que descansan en la arena. Su puesto es como el de todos los demás: una mesa donde mostrar los ejemplares tapados con una mosquitera, un carro donde guardar las existencias, una sombrilla para protegerse del sol y una silla para hacer más llevadera la espera de los clientes. “Esto requiere mucho trabajo y deja muy poco dinero”, relata Juani mientras muestra sus manos llenas de cortes por las horas de limpieza de los pescados. “Hay días que acabamos a las seis de la mañana. No se hace otra cosa. Durante ese mes no hay tiempo para niños, ni para hacer de comer ni para nada”, añade.

El marido de Juani está desempleado y es un familiar suyo el que faena. Ella los limpia, seca y vende. “Los volaores no se estropean”, convence Juani a un cliente de Málaga que acaba de comprar 40 piezas. beza. Antonia este año no se ha dedicado al volaor, ya que tiene un familiar enfermo, pero esta tradición no tiene secretos para ella. “Es muy sacrificado y cada vez nos lo ponen más difícil. Yo siempre he destinado lo poco que he sacado cada verano al material escolar de los niños para empezar el colegio”, relata Antonia, que esboza una sonrisa al comprobar que a su amiga Juani le va bien el día. Ya quedan pocos volaores. Agosto toca a su fin. Dentro de poco los puestos de La Atunara recogerán hasta el año que viene.

Flying fish, a tradition in La Línea Every summer the streets of the La Atunara neighbourhood are filled with stalls selling this sun-dried fish. A ship can catch up to 10,000 volaores during the month long season
T
here is a tradition in La Línea that dates back as far as living memory, say residents of La Atunara, which was created as its own neighbourhood. We’re talking about volaores (or the flying fish); that sun-dried fish sold every summer on the streets of this seaside retreat. The season begins with the Fair of La Línea, in mid-July, and lasts about a month. Around twenty fishing boats from La Atunara head out to sea to catch this species, named after the fins they use to leap out of the water. The fish are caught by hand with drift nets. Each boat usually can hold around 6,000-10,000 volaores. Once ashore, they are then dried. Firstly, their heads and guts are removed. Secondly, they are salted and hung in the sun and then they are hung from streets and rooftops forming one of the most iconic images of La Atunara. Francisco owns one of the iconic street stalls selling volaores. He has spent several seasons dedicated to this tradition and has captured over 6,000
fish. Francisco explains that the drying process depends on the wind. If there’s a ponent (westerly) wind, the fish will take three days to be ready for consumption. If there’s a levant (easterly) wind, the time needed is double. At the beginning of the season, when the first volaroes begin to be seen on the streets, the price per unit is usually 2.5 euros. Then, as you go into august, the price decreases to around one euro per fish. “The volaores have been sold ever since La Atunara has been in existence. Fished by hand, and if well salted, can be stored in the fridge all year round just like mojama”, explained Francisco. At this time of the summer, the fishing season has already finished and street vendors are putting out their last few items. Francisco says that the fish are labour intensive, and that it’s just enough to live off during the summer. In their preparation, everyone from the crewmen of the ships to their families is involved in cleaning the fish. Juani has spent seven summer sea-
sons devoted to the volaores. Her stall is on the beach of La Atunara, next to the boats resting on the sand. Her stall is like all the others: a table where her fish are on display covered over with a mosquito net, a shopping trolley where she keeps her stock, an umbrella to protect herself from the sun and a chair to make the wait for customers more bea-
The price of volaores varies, depending on the day, between 2.5 and one euro per unit rable. “This requires lots of work and leaves you with little money”, explains Juani whilst showing off her hands full of cuts from hours of cleaning fish. “There are days when we finish at six in the morning. We can’t do anything else. Throughout the month there is no time
for children, no time to eat, no time for anything”, she adds. Juani’s husband is unemployed and she is the only one that works. She cleans, dries and sells the fish. “The fish don’t go off”, she tells a customer from Málaga who has just bought 40 of them. Another just came by left with around 20 or so in her bag. “At the end of the day, everything is sold, little by little”, Juani explains, whilst her friend Antonia, who keeps her company, nods in agreement. This year Antonia has not spent her time devoted to the flying fish as she has a family member who was taken ill, but this tradition has no secrets for her. “It is very demanding and every time is more difficult for us. I always have spent the little that I have earned each summer on school supplies for the children to start school”, says Antonia as she smiles and checks how her friend Juani is getting on. There are very few volaores left now. August is almost over. Soon the stalls in La Atunara will close until next year comes around.
