Astrid Schmidt King, Assistant Dean of the LCDO By Teresa Cajot Before joining the University of Baltimore School of Law as the Assistant Dean of the Law Career Development Office, Astrid Schmidt King was a student at the law school. As a former student, graduate, and practicing attorney, she is an informed and understanding advisor for the staff members, students, and alumni who seek her assistance.

Within the Law Career Development Office, King works with five other staff members including an attorney and judicial internship program director, an associate director, an assistant director, a senior career advisor, and an administrative assistant. Together, the staff provides students with a broad range of services, including career counseling, internship opportunities, access to a job database, and more. In addition to her past experience as a law student at the University of Baltimore School of Law, King also brings years of experience in the legal business to the Law Career Development Office. After earning her JD in 2002, King joined Families USA in Washington, DC, where she served as the Policy Analyst and State Legislature Coordinator. She spent three years with Families USA, promoting affordable healthcare and simultaneously working toward an LL.M in Law and Government at the Washington College of Law at American University.

In 2005, she joined Greenberg Traurig as an immigration associate with the firm’s Business Immigration and Compliance Group. She worked in both the Tysons Corner, Virginia and New York, New York offices before accepting the position of Associate Director of the Office of Career Services at New York University School of Law in 2007. She remained at NYU School of Law until October of 2008 when she returned to the University of Baltimore School of Law as the Assistant Dean of the Law Career Development Office. In 2010, King received a Fulbright Scholar Grant which enabled her to study the distinguishing characteristics of Germany’s higher education system. During her time in Germany, she toured a number of cities, including Berlin, Dortmund, Hamburg, and Mainz. Fittingly, King also holds a BA in International Relations from New York University’s Gallatin School for Individual Studies.
