John E. Osborn, Dendreon Corporation By Teresa Cajot Last week the Dendreon Corporation, a biotechnology company, announced the appointment of John E. Osborn to the position of Executive Vice President, General Counsel, and Corporate Secretary. Osborn officially took on his new duties on August 30, 2011.

Osborn offers an impressive career history and a range of experiences that are sure to prove beneficial to the Dendreon Corporation. He was most recently the executive vice president and general counsel of US Oncology Inc., where was heavily involved with the company’s merger with the McKesson Corporation. From 1999 until 2008, Osborn held the role of general counsel with Cephalon Inc., where he carried the responsibility of all legal, government, and public affairs connected to the company. Prior to joining Cephalon, Osborne served as the chief counsel to a European pharmaceutical group associated with a Merck & Company joint investment. However, beyond Osborn’s experience in commercial biopharmaceutical organizations, he also has ample experience in the political arena. During the George H.W. Bush administration, Osborn served in the US Department of State and was nominated to the US Advisory Commission on Public Diplomacy in 2007. He was also involved in the presidential

campaign of George H.W. Bush, worked within the office of Congressman Jim Leach of Iowa, and with the late US Senator John Heinz III of Pennsylvania. Osborn’s extensive career experiences also include a clerkship with Judge Albert V. Bryan of the US Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, practicing corporate law with Hale and Dorr, serving on the board of Incept BioSystems Inc., and serving on the Leadership Council of the Life Sciences Institute at the University of Michigan. He has also been a visiting fellow at both Oxford and Princeton Universities, and worked as an advisor for McKinsey & Co., an international consulting firm. Osborn earned his law degree from the University of Virginia and holds an MA in international public policy from John Hopkins University. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Iowa. Dendreon is a Seattle-based company that aims to become a leading oncology company through the development and production of cutting-edge cancer therapies.
