Michigan law school offers counseling to its students, while California county court offers unpaid six months positions. August 03, 2010
Pasadena, CA — Law students working as summer associates at Biglaw have started getting job offers, and they are being offered to entire batches. The surprise news comes close on the fact that this summer, major law firms cut down on summer hiring by 44 percent. There are also reports that the major law firms are going to be hiring more summer associates for summer 2011, although these same firms had cut down on their summer associates for summer 2010. The main firms that have made offers to their entire batch of summer associates are Latham & Watkins and Pepper Hamilton at its Philadelphia branch. Sheppard Mullin has also announced that it is restoring its starting salaries for junior associates by raising it from $145,000 to $160,000. Although most law schools have not reported increases in hiring for summer associates for 2011 or the graduating class, CEO A.
