United We Stand W
ho will rise to challenge? was so off the mark regarding Ukraine, except for the part about leadership. If Trump was in power, do you think Putin would be doing this type of invasion? Trump was a lot of things, but being a pushover was not one of them. His unpredictability and resolve were key in keeping his world opponents from this type of mess. Contrary to the media’s and Western politicians’ focus on woke culture and racism and attacking ourselves from within, Russia and China exist on a different plane. Somehow in the West, we forget the price of freedom comes at the cost of at least letting the world know you are prepared for the worst but willing to hope for the best. Nations that give up their energy independence will suffer the consequences in trying times. Let’s start doing what’s right for our country first, like my dad said, “Look after No. 1 first, then you can look after rest.” (What is fair to say is there is no world leader — other than Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy — who is prepared to be the one to stand up to Putin. The challenge with former president Donald Trump was that he’s unpredictable) They say, “Look at Ukraine if you want to see what loss of freedom is like — at least we are not them.” To the writers of those letters, that is exactly what they are fighting for: Their freedom. For people to think the current government controls are OK, simply because they found a country that has it worse than us, is silly. Take a look at what Canada used to be. Crossing into the U.S.A. with only a driver’s licence — now it is a passport, vaccine proof and a rapid test. We have a federal government that could force banks to freeze accounts of people who protested against mandates — and maybe other causes that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau does not agree with? How does this not land on these writers’ radar as tyranny? Canada used to be the shining beacon for others to become. Now, people around the world are pointing their fingers and saying, “At least, we are not them.” To simply look at one country and claim we are good because we are not them does not make sense.

TIPS & TRICKS How to Clean a Coffee Maker
Studies show that about 50% of all coffee makers used in households have traces of mold and mildew. And if you find out how often coffee makers are usually cleaned, this fact won’t sound that surprising to you anymore.
How often a coffee maker should be cleaned
It’s important to clean all removable parts of the coffee maker after each use. This will help remove coffee particles and coffee oils that clog the filter. Cleaning can be done with warm soapy water or in a dishwasher. ❗ Read your coffee maker’s instruction manual for details regarding which parts can be washed in a dishwasher. To prevent mold from forming in your coffee maker, leave the reservoir lid open and dry the internal parts after use. Decalcify your coffee maker once a month. Over time, scale can accumulate in the coffee maker, which will impair the functioning of internal mechanisms and negatively affect the taste of the coffee. To help your coffee maker work properly, it’s worth deep cleaning it once a month.
How to clean a coffee maker without using vinegar If you don’t want to use vinegar, you can try other cleaning methods.
Regular cleaning of a coffee maker
Step 1: Open the coffee maker and remove the brew basket and coffee filter. Shake any remaining coffee grounds out of the filter before rinsing the parts. Step 2: Fill a bowl with water and add a few drops of dish soap. Step 3: Put the basket and filter in the soapy water. Use a sponge or soft cloth to wipe all the parts to remove coffee grounds and oil residue. Step 4: Empty the coffee maker carafe of any coffee residue. Using a sponge and soapy water, wash the carafe inside and outside thoroughly.
Decalcifying the coffee maker
Step 1: Prepare everything you need for cleaning: water, vinegar, soft cloth, and coffee filters (if you use disposable coffee filters). Step 2: Empty the coffee maker of any coffee residue, then rinse all the parts the same way you do for regular cleaning of the coffee maker. Step 3: Fill the reservoir with a 1:1 mixture of vinegar and water. Step 4: Place the filter in the basket and turn on the coffee maker. About halfway through the cycle, turn off the coffee maker and leave the heated vinegar mixture inside for about 30 to 60 minutes.
Step 5: Drain the soapy water and rinse all parts of the coffee maker with clean water. Wipe them with a soft cloth and let them dry.
Step 5: Without draining the mixture, turn the coffee maker on again and let it complete the brewing cycle. Throw away the paper filter if you used one. If you used a reusable filter, rinse it with water.
Step 6: Clean the outside of the coffee maker. Dip a soft cloth into soapy water and wipe the nonremovable parts of the coffee maker to remove any dirt. Rinse the cloth in tap water and wipe the same parts with it. Let the coffee maker dry.
Step 6: Fill the reservoir with clean water, place the filter in the basket, and start the coffee maker. Remove the filter, pour out the water, and repeat the process with a new portion of water.
Step 7: When all the parts are dry, reassemble the coffee maker.
Lemon juice: Replace vinegar with lemon juice and clean the coffee maker in the same way as described above. Baking soda: Add 1/4 cup of baking soda to the coffee maker reservoir and fill it with hot water. Carry out the cleaning in the same way as described above, running several brewing cycles. Hydrogen peroxide: Use the mixture of 1 cup of hydrogen peroxide and hot water instead of the mixture of water and vinegar. Carry out the cleaning according to the method described above.

STYLE Step 1: facial cleanser
Before you even start applying your makeup, it’s important to keep in mind that your face has to be cleansed systematically first. Cleansing the skin removes excess sebum, and this, in turn, ensures that the makeup you apply doesn’t run off easily. To choose the right facial cleanser, you need to know your skin type and test different kinds until you find the right one. Generally speaking, you can use the following cheat sheet: If you have dry skin, it’s best to choose traditional creams with moisturizing ingredients, such as oatmeal, shea butter, or oil. These ingredients, in addition to discarding impurities, keep your skin hydrated. If you have oily or combination skin, use cleansers with astringent ingredients and avoid all those containing oil.
Step 2: moisturizer
It’s best if you choose a light moisturizer if you’re going to apply makeup. This way, your skin will stay moisturized throughout the day, but it won’t look shiny or greasy. Moisturizer is something you should apply even if you have oily skin, especially if you’re about to wear makeup. However, in this case, just choose a gel or lotion instead of a cream. The latter tends to be heavier. When applying it, be sure to rub it evenly all over your face to avoid clogging your pores. Then wait for it to dry for a few minutes before moving on to the next step.
Step 3: a liquid base
Foundation is the only part of your makeup that should remain basically unnoticeable. It should only make your skin look naturally smooth but somewhat embellished. To make it look as natural as possible, you have to choose a shade similar to that of your own skin. If you don’t have a chance to try the product on beforehand and you’re in doubt, always choose a shade that’s slightly lighter instead of a darker one. With your fingers, apply the foundation to your forehead, cheeks, nose, and chin, and sweep outward from there in all directions. You can keep on applying it with your fingers if you want very light coverage, or you can opt for a sponge for a more compact finish. If you have oily skin, you can use a matte finish foundation. If you have dry skin, go for a radiant finish foundation so it will stay hydrated for the rest of the day.
Step 4: creamy concealer
Typically, concealer is meant to cover dark circles under your eyes and correct other small imperfections that haven’t been covered in the previous step with foundation. For the area under your eyes, look for a color that’s just one shade lighter than your skin. Just keep in mind that a color that’s too light will look very artificial. The secret to good makeup application is to make sure the results look as natural as possible. It’s convenient to have another shade of concealer to apply on areas of your face where you notice dark spots, pimples, or other imperfections. In this case, the ideal shade will be the one closest to your skin color. For dark circles under your eyes, use a small pointed brush and apply the concealer in a triangle shape. Pay special attention to the areas where dark circles under the eyes are the darkest. These are usually located in the inner and outer parts of the eye. Then blend it in with your thumb.
Step 5: highlighter
As the name suggests, you should apply highlighter to the parts of your face that are to be highlighted. As a rule of thumb, these are the places hit by direct sunlight. Apply it on the high cheekbone area, the arch of the nose, the Cupid’s bow, the arch of the eyebrow, the center of the forehead, the upper part of the eyelid, and the center of the chin. Blend it in with your fingertips, using as little pressure as possible to avoid smudging the foundation.
Step 6: translucent powder
Translucent powder is a colorless powder used to help set foundation, concealer, and highlighter, and it makes them all last longer on your skin. You can also use it after applying eye shadow and eyeliner for the same purpose. As we mentioned earlier, its main function is to help your makeup last longer. To apply translucent powder, you’ll need to use a large, fluffy brush. Before applying, lightly press the bristles of the brush into the powder base and then tap lightly against the container to discard excess powder. Dust a light amount all over your face in long, arching motions. You can use more powder on the areas of your face that need more coverage, such as reddish or oilier parts.
12
APRIL 2022
Step 7: bronzer
It’s better if you use a specific bronzing brush when applying it, as these have a particular shape that is different from the rest of the brushes you’ll be using. To avoid obtaining a very artificial result, choose a bronzer that is a maximum of 2 shades darker than your natural skin tone. Apply in the shape of a number “3” on both sides of your face. Start from the forehead, go over the cheek, and end at the chin.
Step 8: blush
Blush is ideal to give a little more color and vitality to your face in general. Regardless of the shade of blush you choose, liquid formulas are always recommended by experts. Creamy blush adapts more easily to any skin type, even the most aged, and the result tends to be a natural color, which is great. Remember that the key in these first steps of your makeup routine is to make sure that whatever you’re applying is as natural as possible. It should highlight your natural beauty and make you look better, but without making the layers of makeup noticeable. The interesting thing about blush is that, depending on how you apply it, you will be changing the shape of your face. So you won’t use the same type of technique on round or heart-shaped faces as you would on oval, elongated, square, or triangular-shaped ones.
Step 9: eye shadow shade
It’s recommended to choose 2 complementary shades of eye shadow: one that tends to be considered a neutral color and one that’s a darker shade. Make sure they are in the same chromatic range. You can apply them using your fingertips or with a small eyeshadow brush if you prefer. Use the neutral color as a base to cover the entire eyelid, from the lash line to just above the crease. Then apply the dark shade. Blend them well with a clean brush so you can combine the 2 shades and obtain a natural result.
STYLE Step 10: eyeliner
When it comes to eyeliner, it’s always best to opt for classic shades, such as black or brown. Keep in mind that a liquid eyeliner will color bleed much more easily than a regular pencil, but its line will be much more precise. If you prefer a thin line that sticks to the lashes, choose the former. If you want a firm and even line, make small dots on the lash line and then join them with the same brush.
Step 11: mascara
When it comes to mascara, it’s also a good idea to stick to more traditional colors. Before applying, gently twist the wand inside the tube to make sure all the bristles are covered. Don’t move it up and down because this will cause air to enter the container and the mascara to dry out or clump; instead, make circular motions to get all the product out of the tube.
Step 12: lipstick or lip gloss
Lipstick is a basic makeup product that can totally change your look in just a few seconds. However, for this to happen, it is very important to choose the right shade and apply it in the right way. Pucker your lips and apply it to the top and bottom center, then blend outward with your fingertips. This way, you can avoid smudging or smearing. If you have very thin lips, keep in mind that intense or dark shades can make them look even thinner. To avoid this, finish with a gloss. If you have chapped lips, you can prep them before painting by applying a damp cloth and then a layer of lip balm. Let it absorb before moving on to the next step. To help your color last all day, run a piece of ice over your lips before applying any color.
Bonus
You can also try and use your lipstick, or lip liner, as eye shadow. Depending on its shade, it might give you a unique and sparkly look.

GLAMOROUS JEWELS
Earrings are an important piece of jewelry for many women. However, picking out the right accessory can become a difficult task due to all the different options you may find on the market. Fortunately, there are certain things to consider to make the best decision and enhance your natural beauty.
16
APRIL 2022
STYLE Square face
Here, the forehead, jawline, and cheeks are similar in width, which makes the face symmetrical on all sides. If you have these features, soften up the natural angles of your face by opting for rounded earrings, hoops, and prominent studs. ❗Avoid earrings with square shapes, as they may sharpen the appearance of your face.
Heart-shaped face
A heart-shaped face is characterized by becoming narrower toward the chin, with a forehead that is wider than the cheekbones. If these features match your natural traits, choose earrings that have a drop or chandelier shape with elongated curves. Besides bringing attention to your eyes, jawline, and cheekbones, these will balance the angles of your face by filling its lower part.
Round face
In this case, the face is narrow at the jawline and forehead, and wider at the upper area of the cheeks, which gives the face a rounded appearance. If this description coincides with your features, elongate your face by going for long, hanging earrings. ❗Don’t wear studs or hoops, as they will make the round angles of your face more prominent.
Diamond-shaped face
A diamond-shaped face has the same width at the forehead and chin, with the eyes being the widest area of the face. If these are your traits, balance your natural angles by opting for studs, teardrops, or chandelier earrings that are wider at the lower part. These will help you draw more attention to your chin.
Oval face
Inverted triangle face
If this is your case, choose studs, hoops, or triangle-shaped earrings to complement your natural angles and draw attention to your upper cheek area. You can also go for huggies and pearl earrings.
Balance your facial features by going for large earrings that are more prominent at the bottom and dangling earrings that stay away from your face. Small hoops and modest teardrops can also be good options.
This is considered the easiest face shape to accessorize. Here, the line from the forehead matches the cheekbones, and the face may become slightly narrow at the chin. It has a rounded appearance, however, it’s longer than a round face.
18
APRIL 2022
Just like a heart-shaped face, an inverted triangle face is wider at the forehead than at the chin. However, this shape is more angular, with the jawline and cheekbones being more noticeable.
home SPRING CLEANING Not everyone is ready to clean their home every day, and is it really worth spending time on this? Many household chores can be done just once a week, but some little things require immediate attention: for example, dirty dishes and scattered items of clothing create a feeling of chaos, and make the space uncomfortable.
21
APRIL 2022
HOME Define your triggers of cleanliness
Each person has their own understanding of cleanliness: for some, it’s a polished kitchen sink, for others, it’s no stains on the bathroom mirror, and then there are those who like neatly folded clothes. Make a list of the things you pay attention to first. To make it easier, start with: what specifically makes you feel uncomfortable in this or that room? You need to know your triggers in order to use your time more efficiently.
Change the smell
All 5 senses participate in our perception of our environment, so don’t just rely on your sight, but also on your sense of smell when cleaning. First of all, open the windows and let fresh air into the rooms. If this is not enough, use fragrances — candles, diffusers, or home perfumes. Lemon, tea tree, and eucalyptus are considered to be the cleanest-smelling essential oils, but you can use whatever scent you like the most.
Collect scattered things
Things constantly migrate from one room to another, creating a sense of chaos. It can take too long to pick each one up and put it back in place. Take a basket or box instead, and walk around your home, picking up all the scattered items. If you don’t want to sort them immediately, just postpone the task by placing the container in any free corner. Or you can immediately walk around your home with it, putting the items onto shelves and into the drawers where they belong.
Check your floors
If you feel dust or dirt under your feet when walking around your home, you don’t have to grab a bucket and a mop. There are a couple of easier solutions: Turn on the vacuum cleaner and vacuum the areas with the highest traffic — along with the kitchen furniture, the sofa, and near the front door. Throw a wet cloth on the floor and quickly wipe the floor with your foot — this will help to collect most of the dust. Bonus for those who have a robot vacuum: just start it and enjoy the result.

HEATING DO'S AND DONT'S It seems quite easy to find out whether a particular dish is microwave-safe or not — all you have to do is look at the label. Alas, not all plates, bowls, and food containers have this. And that’s why we decided to prepare a small guide for you.
24
APRIL 2022
HOME Dishes that can be microwaved The following dishes are microwave-safe: Dishes made of glass, ceramics, porcelain, or clay — they shouldn’t be cracked, chipped, or have metal decorative elements. Paper plates without metal decorations and plastic coating — be careful with recycled plates since they may contain impurities. You should carefully monitor the process of microwaving food in them. Dishes and containers made of durable plastic — not all types of plastic are safe to use in the microwave, so it’s highly recommended to look at the label and make sure the dish is safe to microwave. Glass jars should be used with caution. Most of them are not heat resistant and may break. Before putting a jar in the microwave, remove the lid and make sure that the jar doesn’t overheat.
Dishes that can’t be microwaved The following dishes are not microwave-safe: Dishes with metal decorative elements — ones with gold, silver, or platinum bands will reflect microwave energy and may cause arcing. Aluminum trays may also cause arcing, so make sure to transfer food to a microwave-safe dish. Any metal utensils — in addition to being a fire hazard, metal will act as a barrier between the food and the microwave energy and won’t let the food get heated. Wooden utensils — when microwaved, wood dries out and can split or crack. Cardboard dishes — the material may contain adhesive, wax, and other substances that may be hazardous when microwaved. Some cardboard takeout boxes have metal handles or clasps that can cause arcing and present a fire hazard. Plastic foam containers — if exposed to high temperatures, the material may melt and contaminate the contents of the container. Disposable plastic containers, such as plastic containers used for yogurt, cottage cheese, and other foods are not microwave-safe. Old plastic containers can’t be microwaved, especially if they are cracked or discolored.
How to tell whether your dish can be microwaved If you don’t know whether your dish or container can be microwaved, do a simple test. 1. Fill a ceramic or sturdy glass bowl with cold water. 2. Put it in the microwave on or next to the dish you want to test. 3. Turn on the microwave for one minute on high. 4. Open the microwave and check the dishes. If the water becomes warm or hot but the dishes remain cold, they can be microwaved. However, if they were also heated during the test, it’s not recommended to use them in the microwave.
26
APRIL 2022
If you can microwave aluminum foil Small, smooth pieces of foil can be used to cover meat or poultry to keep them from overcooking. However, the foil must be at least 1 inch away from the walls of the microwave, otherwise arcing can occur. Additionally, food wrapped in aluminum foil may not cook or heat well in the microwave. After all, the foil will simply reflect microwaves instead of conducting heat. You can use wax or parchment paper as an alternative to aluminum foil. You can also cover the food with a paper towel or napkin if you want to protect it from splatters. You can also microwave oven-cooking bags, but only if the manufacturer’s instructions say so. Never use metal ties or clips to secure the bags and be sure to make slits to allow steam to escape.

SECRETS OF DEODORANT Applying deodorant or antiperspirant is likely the most important part of your routine, as they both may provide freshness all day long. However, there are certain differences between these products that can make one or the other the best option according to your needs. ❗Important: This article has been created for informative purposes only and does not replace professional advice. We advise you to consult your doctor if you experience excessive sweat or any other problem related to perspiration.
29
APRIL 2022
HEALTH Tips for using deodorant
The difference between deodorant and antiperspirant
Apply it when your skin is dry and clean, preferably after you shower. Reapply deodorant throughout the day if you want to make sure you feel fresh for longer. For the best results, clean your underarms with a cleansing cloth and dry them before reapplying the product. Wait until your deodorant is dry before getting dressed since this will prevent stains from forming on your clothes.
Deodorant eliminates and masks armpit odor, but it doesn’t control perspiration. It’s usually alcohol-based, and when you apply it to your skin, it makes it acidic and, as a consequence, is less appealing to bacteria that cause odor. Moreover, it typically contains fragrance and it’s considered a cosmetic product. On the other hand, antiperspirant controls sweat by temporarily blocking the pores through its aluminum-based ingredients, which results in a decreased amount of perspiration. At the same time, antiperspirant is classified as a drug by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) because this product is intended to affect body structures or the way the body functions.
Tips for using antiperspirant Go for a thin layer of antiperspirant when applying it to your skin rather than the opposite, as this may be enough to keep you dry. Apply antiperspirant at nighttime to get better results since this may give the product enough time to be absorbed into your skin. Apply antiperspirant to your underarms and any other part of your body you’re concerned about sweating. However, avoid areas with mucous membranes, such as the eyes, mouth, and genitals.
How to choose between one product or the other It all depends on the kind of protection you need. For instance, if you don’t sweat excessively or perspiration is not something you worry about, you can opt for a deodorant to keep your skin fresh all day. However, if sweat makes your armpits feel sticky and uncomfortable most of the time, or you’re planning on having a hectic day, it may be a better idea to choose an antiperspirant, as it will allow you to stay dry for longer. 💡 Today, it’s possible to find products that act as both antiperspirants and deodorants, which means that they’re capable of offering protection against moisture and bad smells at the same time. These may be available in spray, stick, and roll-on forms so that you don’t have to choose between one or the other to feel comfortable all day long.

Challenging your mind in every possible way is one of the best ways to keep its agility up-to-date. A good exercise is to look for unpaired objects within the same image, as our sight often duplicates the elements and tricks our brain. What could be more fun than exercising our neurons while we entertain ourselves?

Materials A crown template Thick paper in any color you like Scissors Glue Pencil (optional)
Materials Thick paper (you can choose either white paper and decorate it yourself or go with a paper that already has a pattern) Scissors Glue An elastic string A pom-pom or ribbons, stickers, rhinestones, and any decorations that you like (optional)
1. Print out the template. If you don’t have a printer, you can trace the crown shape onto the paper. 2. Using scissors, cut out the pieces of the template. The template consists of the 3 main pieces — the main crown piece that will be placed in front and 2 straight bands that will meet at the back of the head. 3. Measure the size of your child’s head. Using glue, attach the straight bands to both sides of the main crown piece. Use scissors to adjust them so that the crown fits onto your child’s head. 4. If you want, you can also decorate the crown with rhinestones or glitter. 5. Connect the straight pieces at the back and glue them together.
Butterfly headband
1. Print out the template. If you don’t have a printer, you can trace the crown shape onto paper. 2. Decorate the template the way you like it — add drawings, polka dots, stickers, fun images, or rhinestones. 3. Using glue, assemble the cone hat. On top of the hat, add a pom-pom or a ribbon. 4. Near the base of the hat, pinch 2 holes and add an elastic string around the holes.

Jester hat
Wizard’s hat
Materials Thick paper of various colors Scissors Glue Pencil
Materials Thick purple paper (or blue) around 24″ x 36″ Yellow paper Scissors Glue Pencil Ruler Compass
1. Print out the template pieces on sheets of different colors. If you don’t have a printer, you can trace the crown shape onto the paper. Cut the pieces out — you should get 2 straight bands, 6 triangles, and 12 circles. 2. Glue the straight bands together to get one long piece that will go around your head. Measure your head size and trim the long band to fit. Then take the piece and use glue to stick the triangle pieces to it. 3. Glue the ends of the band together. 4. Glue the circle to the ends of one of the triangles. Glue another circle at the back of the first one, so that the triangle tip is in between them. 5. Decorate the band with the rest of the circles. 6. Take a pencil and place it against the base of the triangle. Hold the pencil with your thumb and place your index finger on the pencil from behind the paper. Start moving the pencil up the top of the triangle to create a curl.
1. To make a cone hat, draw a half-circle on a piece of paper using a compass. The radius should be around 11 inches (28 cm). Cut it out and bring the 2 ends of the half-circle together to create a cone. Glue the edges or staple them at the base. 2. Using scissors, start cutting a small fringe at the base of the cone. The fringe should be approximately 1 inch (2-2.5 cm) apart from each other. 3. Fold the fringe out. Turn the cone over and using a ruler, measure the diameter of the cone. 4. Using a compass, draw a circle that has the same diameter as the base of the cone. 5. Again, using a compass, draw a bigger circle around the smaller one to define a brim. 6. Cut the big circle out. Then, cut the smaller circle out to create the hat’s brim. 7. Apply glue around the hole of the brim. 8. Insert the cone from the bottom of the brim and glue the parts together. Cut out some half-moons and stars from a sheet of yellow paper and decorate the hat.
