EDITOR'S NOTE
Face to Face L
et’s get together again soon.” In the past two months, the simplest phrases have taken on a special poignancy, as the coronavirus changes our usual way of life. For many moviegoers, that usual way of life was already subject to debate, though: were we going to movie theaters enough? Spending too much time on our phones? More generally, were we losing a sense of community, especially with people different from ourselves? The pandemic has made concrete many challenges as never before, inflicting a social experiment on all of us: what if phones (or Zoom or Google Hangouts…) were the only option we had for connecting with others? What if all the movie theaters did shut down, and we could only watch things at home? And what if staying together as a community, as a country, as a world—much less staying afloat economically—was a constant struggle against isolation and division? But my once-predictable, formulaic plans—like all of yours—slowly started to change as we moved into March. As the COVID-19 pandemic ramped up, some photo shoots were cancelled. Once the dust settled from those disappointments, it was time to refocus and take a different perspective… the good news, I guess you could say: We now had the opportunity to tell a more timely story. As I looked around during the pandemic (virtually), I saw that alongside the negative—school closures, job losses, challenges in the health care industry—there were countless examples of the positive. Donations, manpower, random acts of kindness. We were separated in our households, but still found ways to be there for each other.

What you’ll need
There are 4 different sources of cold you can use to get an ice facial: 1. A pair of cryo sticks (follow the manufacturer’s instructions for how to cool it) 2. A pair of ice rollers (follow the manufacturer’s instructions for how to cool it) 3. Ice 4. A pair of metallic spoons (straight out of the freezer) In addition to one of the sources of cold above, you’ll need: Makeup remover A face cleanser A serum or mask (check the note below for more information) A thin compress (such as cotton gauze) Face cream Note: The choice of serum or mask is very important in this case, not only because cold could improve the skin’s absorption, but because masks and serums often do the same thing. Since pushing retinol or anything acidic deeper into your skin could cause irritation, you should avoid treatments that contain fruit acids, retinoids, or anything from the AHA or the BHA family. Also, don’t use masks that are clay-based. Instead, go for sheet masks, cream masks, and anything that contains hyaluronic acid or peptides.
Step 1: Remove all of your makeup and wash your face.
To start, use your makeup remover to take off your makeup. Then wash your face with a cleanser and lukewarm water, and pat your skin dry. You can also do this last part while taking a warm shower to really open up your pores.
Step 2: Apply a mask or serum.
Warm up your serum or mask in your hands to activate it. Then press and release it deeply over the face to apply.
Step 3: Prepare your source of cold.
Let your mask or serum work. Meanwhile, you can prepare your source of cold. We chose a pair of spoons. Depending on whether you chose a serum or a mask, your prep will change: If you chose a sheet mask: Rinse the source of cold in water to prevent it from sticking. Move onto the next step where you will apply it right over the sheet mask. If you chose any other mask or serum: Dip your compress (for instance, the cotton gauze) in water and wring it out. Then wrap the source of cold on the compress. Move onto the next step to apply it to your face. Tip: Treating both sides of your face simultaneously is faster and ensures you don’t forget anything, so be sure to prepare 2 sources of cold.
Step 4: Apply the source of cold. When your serum or mask has fully set, take your one source of cold in each hand and apply it to your face. First, run the compress over the skin from the inside out in the center of your forehead. Then do the same thing, moving from the bottom of the face to the cheeks and jawline. After that, move to the center of the face. Make sure to spend enough time under the eyes. Finally, don’t forget to treat your neck and chest. This procedure shouldn’t hurt. If it does, stop immediately and talk to a professional. Also, it shouldn’t take more than 3 minutes in total. Doing it for any longer than that might irritate your skin or cause redness.
⚠️
Step 5: Apply your regular face cream.
If you used any type of mask, start by removing it, then rinse your face with lukewarm water. Otherwise, skip that step and warm your regular face cream between your palms and massage it into your skin, always using upward strokes.

Pour the mix into ice trays and put it into the freezer. 4. Take one ice cube and use it to cleanse the skin and remove the red spots. If needed, you can apply hydrating cream and foundation.
How to hide skin imperfections with beauty products
Use a concealer of a certain color for localized correction. So, if you have red spots, you need a green color, and black spots will not be visible if you put yellow on them. First, put a lighter-tone concealer on the skin, and then use a foundation that matches your skin tone. Use a sponge to apply the concealer and the foundation carefully and hide the imperfections. Also: If needed, consult a dermatologist to find the right products for you.

DRY PANTRY
The pantry moth is an insect that belongs to the pyraloid moths. Their eggs and larvae get into your house by way of grains, spices, flour, dried fruits, and other dry foods. Later, they turn into moths, and their appearance indicates that your foods have been contaminated and that your pantry and kitchen need a serious clean-up.
24
JUNE 2020
HOME What pantry moths are
There are different species of pantry moths, like the meal moth, the Indianmeal moth, and the cacao moth. Many of them resemble the common clothes moth. The life cycle of different species of moths belonging to this family is similar. For example, adult females of the Indianmeal moth group lay hundreds of eggs next to dry foods or directly on them. After 2 weeks, the larvae appear and begin to feed on your foods. As they move, they leave silk threads behind, which is how you can learn of their presence. A couple of weeks later, the larvae will grow enough to find a secluded place in a crevice, hole, or crack to weave a cocoon. A month later, the nymph turns into an adult insect, which reproduces again. Thus, several generations of pantry moths can appear in the pantry or kitchen cabinet over the course of a year. Therefore, it’s important not just to get rid of moths and the foods you found traces of their presence in, but also to ensure that moths don’t reappear from eggs, larvae, and nymphs, which aren’t so easy to spot.
How to get rid of pantry moths
Step 1. When cleaning the kitchen or pantry, pay special attention to cabinets and shelves where groceries are stored. You need to remove all items and foods, including those in sealed packaging, along with dishes, kitchen utensils, cooking equipment, appliances, and accessories. Step 2. If there are moths inside packages of food, throw the packages away together with all their contents. If you plan to use the container where the food was stored in the future, thoroughly rinse it under hot water with a dishwashing detergent. Pour the remaining dry foods into jars with tight-fitting lids, preferably made of glass or metal, and put them into the freezer for a week. Low temperatures are detrimental to these insects and they’ll destroy any eggs and moth larvae. Important: When pouring flour, semolina, and other similar foods, it’s better to use a fine sieve, which will help keep the larvae away. Step 3. Use a vacuum cleaner to thoroughly clean the surface of the shelves in the cabinet and pantry. Pay attention to the corners. To do this, special nozzles with narrow spouts are convenient, and they can be attached to the vacuum cleaner hose. If the vacuum cleaner uses a dust bag, discard it immediately after cleaning. The water filter must also be cleaned, according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Otherwise, the larvae and eggs of the moth can survive inside the vacuum cleaner and subsequently get free. Step 4. Move on to wet cleaning. Take a spray bottle, fill it with hot water, and add some dishwashing liquid. Shake the container gently to mix the liquids and evenly spray its contents over all surfaces of the cabinet, shelves, or pantry. Treat the walls, doors, and floor the same way. Next, wipe everything down with a cloth or sponge first, then dry with a paper towel. You can spray the surface with peppermint oil too, which is a natural repellent for these insects. Mix 1 cup of water and the same amount of white vinegar, add a few drops of peppermint oil, and pour everything into a spray bottle. Close it and shake well to mix the liquids. Spray the product through your pantry, shelves, or cabinet surfaces, as well as walls, floors, and ceilings. Then wipe everything with a sponge. If you want to store the repellent away, pour it into a glass container because the oil corrodes plastic. Step 5. Put sachets with bay leaves in places where dry foods are stored. This simple remedy will scare away insects because the pantry moth can’t stand the smell of bay leaves.
26
JUNE 2020
How to prevent the pantry moth from appearing in your home
Please check all foods before buying them. If you find holes or webbing on or inside the packaging, it’s better to look for a replacement. Store dry foods that can attract pantry moths in tightly closed containers. Keep in mind that moth larvae can easily eat through cardboard and plastic bags, leaving holes, so it’s better to opt for glass and metal. Place sachets filled with bay leaves on pantry shelves to repel moths. Store dry pet food or bird food in a tightly closed container outside the pantry where your food is. Spice packets are best kept in the refrigerator or freezer.
health THE MINDS OF MEDITATION
Surya Namaskar is a widespread set of yoga exercises that’s name literally means “Salute to the Sun” in Sanskrit. It is very important to the culture of India and even the Delhi airport has a sculpture depicting 12 main asanas of this set of exercises. ❗This article is based on the author’s experience. An important note: Make sure to consult with your doctor before you start practicing yoga, and Surya Namaskar in particular, because there are contraindications to performing these exercises. If you feel dizziness or another malaise while performing the exercises, stop doing them right away.

JUNE 2020
HEALTH Glossary Yoga stands for physical, psychological, and spiritual practices that have their origins in the culture of Ancient India. In today’s society, yoga is more popular as a system of exercises that sometimes go together with breathing exercises and end with relaxation in Shavasana or meditation. Asana — initially this word was used for indicating a pose for sitting meditation, but today any pose that a person takes while practicing yoga is called an asana. Pranayama is a breathing control practice in yoga, aimed at managing life energy (prana). In many practices, breathing synchronizes with performing asanas. Sometimes those can be independent practices as well.
Surya Namaskar Surya Namaskar is a combo of 12 asanas that a yoga practice usually starts with. Asanas can vary depending on the direction of yoga. According to some yoga schools, Surya Namaskar awakens a person’s sunny side. Sometimes doing asanas goes along with singing certain mantras. Normally, the number of repetitions starts with 2-3 and then increases to 12 and to any number that is a multiple of 12. The maximum amount of circles is 108.
Hasta Uttanasana
Plank
Hasta Uttanasana — the word “hasta” means “hand” in Sanskrit, “uttana” means “intense stretch.” The body stretches and fills up with energy, the chest area opens up. Palms are in the namaste pose. As you take a deep inhale, lift your arms straight up. Spread your arms shoulder-width apart. Palms should be facing each other. Stretch your whole body up to your hands. In a more complex version of the exercise, you can make a bend in the thoracic spine and move your head backward. Be mindful that it’s not recommended for newbies to do the bend. If you still decide to do it, make sure to do it under the supervision of a coach or teacher.
Kumbhakasana, or plank pose, is not there in all variations of this combo of exercises, but it is there in the sculpture composition in the Delhi airport. This asana strengthens the arms, wrists, spine, belly muscles, and thighs. Rest your palms on the rug, straighten your arms. As you exhale move your left leg backward, then your right leg. Put both of your feet on your toes, hipwidth apart. Tighten your abs and glutes. Direct your heels backward, and the center of your chest — forward. Make sure that your waist doesn’t bend and that your body stays straight.
Uttanasana Uttanasana means “stretched pose” in Sanskrit. The goal of this asana is to stretch the spine and back muscles of the thighs. As you exhale, lean forward with your arms raised up. Don’t make any sudden movements. Try to touch the floor with your hands. If you are not an expert or if the level of your stretching is not advanced enough, slightly bend your knees or wrap your hands around your shins. Keep your back straight. Your leg muscles should be tense and stretched.
Pranamasana
Ashwa Sanchalanasana
Pranamasana is the pose of a praying person. It starts and finishes the Surya Namaskar cycle. You can take a deep inhale and exhale during pranamasana if you repeat the same cycle of “salutation to the sun” exercises you can go with an exhale only. Stand with your face turned toward the sun if possible. Place your hands in a “namaste” position (which means “bowing to you”): keep your palms together and your thumbs should be touching the middle of your chest. Put your feet together. Straighten your toes and press them into the floor. Pull the top of your head straight up. Expand your shoulders back and down. Mentally stretch the spine from the top of your head to your tailbone.
Ashwa Sanchalanasana is the equestrian pose. The goal is to open the hip joints. At first, it is performed with the right leg, and then on the left leg when the exercise repeats. Sit down on your left leg as you take a full inhale. Move your right leg back as far as you can. You can lean the leg on your toes or on the inside of your foot. Lean on your palms. Newbies are allowed to lean on their fingers. Keep your left leg bent between your arms. Push your chest forward. Look up, stretching the front part of your body. Relax your muscles that are being stretched.
30
JUNE 2020
Ashtanga Namaskara Ashtanga Namaskara means “8-Limbed Pose.” As you suspend your breath, bend your arms at the elbows the way you do when performing push-ups. At the same time make sure your elbows are placed along the body, not to the sides. Bend your legs at your knees. Bend in your back. Lift your buttocks. Arch your neck, throwing your head forward. Lower your torso to the floor. Touch the floor with your chest, knees, and chin. Thus, you’ll be leaning on 8 different spots: the toes of both feet, both knees, the chest, the chin, and both palms. Stretch up with your coccyx.
Urdhva Mukha Shvanasana Urdhva Mukha Shvanasana is the “Upward Facing Dog Pose.” The goal of this asana is to stretch the front surface of the body as much as possible. As you inhale, push up on your arms from the Ashtanga Namaskara pose and move your body forward. Slightly lift your hips and keep them in this position. Slightly bend your head backward. Bend your back as much as you can. Push yourself up with the help of your arms, lean on your arm muscles, moving your body weight onto the arms as well.
HEALTH Adho Mukha Shvanasana Adho Mukha Shvanasana — “Downward Dog Pose.” This asana looks like a stretching dog — that’s how it got its name. As you exhale, get into the Downward Dog Pose from Urdhva Mukha Shvanasana. Don’t move your palms or feet. Straighten your arms. Straighten your legs. Lift up your hips. Direct the top of your head to the floor. Stretch your head to your feet. Keep your knees straight. Try to place the heels on the floor. Stretch with your coccyx up. Stretch your chest toward your legs.
Uttanasana
Ashwa Sanchalanasana Ashwa Sanchalanasana repeats. Keep in mind that this asana is first done with the right leg and then the leg alternates as you repeat the exercise. As you inhale, step with your right leg forward from Adho Mukha Shvanasana so that your foot is located between your palms. Your left leg should stay behind you. You can lean the leg on your toes or on its inward side. Lean on your palms. Newbies are allowed to lean on their fingers. Keep your right leg bent. Push your chest forward. Look up, stretching the front surface of your body. Relax the muscles that you stretch.
Uttanasana, or intense stretch, is another pose that repeats. As you exhale, place your left leg next to your right leg. Lift up your hips. Straighten your legs as much as you can. Fingers (or palms if possible) should stay on the ground. If you are not an expert or if the level of your stretching is not advanced enough, slightly bend your knees or wrap your hands around your shins. Keep your back straight. Your leg muscles should be tense and stretched.
Hasta Uttanasana
Pranamasana
Hasta Uttanasana repeats. As you inhale deeply, gently stand up, feeling how each of your vertebrae is straightening. Lift your arms straight up. Spread your arms shoulder-width apart. Palms should be facing each other. Stretch your whole body up to your hands. In a more complex version of the exercise, you can make a bend in the thoracic spine and move your head backward. Be mindful that it’s not recommended for newbies to do the bend. If you still decide to do it, make sure to do it under the supervision of a coach.
Pranamasana is the pose that starts the cycle and finishes it. Put your arms down. Place your hands in the “namaste” position (which means “bowing to you”): keep your palms together and your thumbs should be touching the middle of your chest. Put your feet together. Straighten your toes and press them into the floor. Pull the top of your head straight up. Expand your shoulders back and down. Mentally stretch the spine from the top of your head to your tailbone.

SPEND ON TRAVELLING Traveling is really fun and enriches your culture but it can be quite expensive sometimes.
Travel in the “off” season and be flexible with your flight.
A lot of destinations have an “off” season when there is less tourism. For that reason, during these times of the year, everything is cheaper, ranging from souvenirs, accommodations, and even plane tickets. Some airlines offer discount flights if you travel on certain days of the week. So, by being flexible with your dates you can actually save a lot of money.
Find a hotel that serves free breakfast.
If you’re planning on staying in a hotel, look for those who offer free complimentary breakfast, so you don’t have that extra daily cost. Also, you can always grab a piece of fruit or a cereal bar to eat later.
Try couch surfing.
Couch surfing is a great option if you can’t afford to pay for accommodations. By using this service you can sleep on someone’s couch without spending any money. You just need to be careful and do some research about where you’re staying.
Travel overnight.
You can actually save some money by traveling on overnight trains and buses, as some companies in some countries offer cheaper tickets for this kind of transportation.
Eat like a local and cook at home.
Take advantage of local street food instead of going to restaurants 3 times a day, as it is much cheaper. Also, shop for local ingredients at farmer’s markets and try to make your own meals at home whenever you can. It’s also very helpful to have a fridge in your room as well, so you can stock it with fruits, veggies, cheeses, and sandwiches.
Walk or take local transportation.
Avoid taxis as much as you can. Instead, try to walk whenever it’s possible and do some research about public transportation, which is much cheaper than taking a taxi.
Visit attractions on free days.
Whenever you want to visit attractions do some research beforehand and find out if they have free or discount days. Plan your trip accordingly.

Finished crafts, or their parts, can be additionally secured with PVA glue. You can paint dried light modeling clay in different colors. You can create almost weightless decorative elements using molds for modeling, and then attach them to any surface with glue. For example, you can decorate the walls of a room this way. If light modeling clay has dried up, don’t throw it away. Just moisten it with water or wrap a damp cloth around it and put it in the package for a night to restore its plasticity.
How to create different textures on light modeling clay To make a ribbed snail, press down a voluminous strip of light modeling clay with a regular straight comb, and then twist it into a spiral.
LIVING
You can give additional texture to your crafts if you use different surfaces. For example, the leaf from the photo above will look more realistic if you use the texture from the handle of a razor. Also try using a food grater, a faceted glass, or a sieve. To make your crafts more voluminous or puffy, tweeze them with tweezers. If you don’t have the right shade of light modeling clay at hand, try to mix pieces of different colors. So, you can get a purple color by mixing blue and red, and the mix of yellow and blue will turn into green.
You can create an uneven surface on light modeling clay if you touch it with a toothbrush lightly. This texture will make your cookie or cupcake craft look more realistic.

TIPS & TRICKS
How to Peel Tomatoes
In order to make tomato soup or sauce, we oftentimes need to remove the peel from our tomatoes. It will make the dish taste sweeter, and its consistency will be smoother.
METHOD #1: BLANCH AND COOL DOWN Take a knife and cut an X-shape in the bottom part of the tomato. Fill a bowl with cold water, add several ice cubes, and set aside. Put a pot with water on the stove and bring it to a boil. Carefully lower the tomato into the boiling water for 30 seconds or more until its skin becomes soft. Take the tomato out of the pot and place it into the bowl with icy water. Leave it there for 5 minutes. When the tomato cools down, take it out of the water and remove the skin.
METHOD #2: HEAT IT UP OVER FIRE. Pierce the tomato in the middle with a fork and hold it over a burning stove. Keep it 2-4 inches from the fire. Be careful not to burn yourself. Slowly rotate the tomato, turning the fork and exposing different sides of the tomato to the fire. When the skin becomes soft enough, carefully pry it off with your finger and remove the peel.
