Eh? It's Turning Red Lester B. Pearson Middle School The opening shot immediately lets us know that this film will be Canadian through and through. An establishing shot of a “Lester B. Pearson Middle School” is shown with a pair of Canadian flags gently waving in the breeze. While there is no school bearing the former Prime Minister’s name in downtown Toronto, there is a Lester B. Pearson Elementary School that also houses Grade 7 and 8 students in North York. Canadianisms. Everywhere. The second scene of the trailer features even more Canadiana. We get our first introduction to our toque-wearing main character, Mei, in a classroom adorned with a poster celebrating the 1980 Winter Games. There is also a hockey helmet tucked away on the top shelf in the right-hand corner. Another student whose interest is piqued by Mei’s mom peering into the classroom can also be seen wearing a maple leaf on their shirt. The big stuff For all of the hints that Shi crammed into the first minute of the trailer, it was the scene of red panda Mei running across the roofs that confirmed beyond a shadow of a doubt that this is a Toronto film. As Mei runs crying across some rooftops, the CN Tower and Rogers Centre are clearly visible in the distance.

Graffiti Alley? As Mei jumps between two buildings, we get a glimpse of some kids playing basketball on the classic patchwork pavement of Toronto’s alleys. A green dragon is painted on one of the walls, as well as the tag of the artist on the backboard. Given that the story seems to be set just west of downtown, could this be Toronto’s famed Graffiti Alley? Also, it’s worth noting that one of the kids is wearing a blue and white hockey jersey, quite possibly a shoutout to the Toronto Maple Leafs. One last clue As Mei continues to break for home after suffering her unwanted transformation, she jumps clear across a bustling street strung with red paper lanterns. At first glance, this could be any street in the world. But, upon closer inspection, one clue gives it away: the streetcar tracks. Inlaid into the pavements are those four iron rails that are a hallmark of downtown Toronto’s streets. Depending on orientation, this has to be either Spadina Avenue or Dundas Street West.

Director Domee Shi chose her hometown of Toronto as the backdrop for her new feature film, with Ottawa native Sandra Oh lending her voice and a group of very talented Canadian artists on the filmmaking team. The new teaser trailer for Pixar's "Turning Red" has barely been out for an hour and a half as of this writing, and it's already taking social media by storm. On the official Disney Pixar Instagram account, the trailer has already been viewed by over a quarter of a million people (and counting). It's getting similar traction on Twitter, with a likes-to-retweets ratio of 2:1. The movie is just under a year away, and people are already chomping at the bit to see it.

A final farewell When Mei makes it home, she calms down enough to temporarily regain her human form. Out of the pink cloud of dust emerges Mei clad in a shirt with a maple leaf on it. However, this glimpse doesn’t last long, as she quickly morphs back into the anxiety-plagued red panda.

Turning Red is set in Toronto. Mei Lee is a confident, dorky thirteen-year-old torn between staying her mother’s dutiful daughter and the chaos of adolescence. And as if changes to her interests, relationships, and body weren’t enough, whenever she gets too excited (which for a teenager is practically ALWAYS), she “poofs” into a giant red panda!

TIPS & TRICKS How Much Caffeine Different Products Contain Billions of people worldwide rely on caffeine daily to help them stay awake and agile thought the day.

What caffeine actually is

Caffeine is a natural stimulant, and it’s found in over 60 plant species. Most commonly, it’s enjoyed across the globe in coffee, tea, and chocolate. In its pure form, it is a white, odorless powder with a slightly bitter taste. Caffeine works by stimulating the brain and central nervous system, keeping you awake. When consumed from the gut, it enters the blood system very quickly. From there, it goes to the liver and breaks down into compounds that can affect the function of various organs. Additionally, all this stimulates the brain and contributes to the state of arousal, alertness, and focus.

Caffeine in different types of products

Caffeine is found in nature in the fruit, leaves, and beans of coffee, cacao, and guarana plants. It is also added to some drinks and supplements. Herbal tea — contains none Decaffeinated tea — contains 2 mg Decaffeinated coffee — contains about 4 mg of caffeine Hot chocolate — The exact amount of caffeine in hot chocolate depends on how the drink is made. The average cup of hot chocolate has only 5 mg of caffeine. A very chocolatey hot chocolate mix that some companies use contains up to 25 milligrams of caffeine. Chocolate (cacao) — 1 oz (28g) of dark chocolate contains about 24 mg of caffeine, whereas milk chocolate contains one-quarter of that amount. Green tea — contains about 28 mg Soda — A 12-oz (355 ml) can of regular or diet dark cola contains about 40 mg of caffeine. Black tea — 1 cup (237 ml) contains about 47 mg of caffeine. Instant coffee — 1 cup or 8 oz (237 ml) contains about 60 mg of caffeine. Espresso — 1 shot or 1.5 oz (44 ml) contains about 65 mg of caffeine. Brewed coffee — 1 cup or 8 oz (237 ml) contains about 95 mg of caffeine. Guarana — This seed originates from South America, and it is used as an extract in food, energy drinks, and energy supplements. Coffee beans have about 4 times less caffeine than guarana beans. Some drinks that contain guarana extract can have up to 125 mg of caffeine per serving. Energy drinks — 1 cup or 8 oz (237 ml) of an energy drink holds about 85 mg of caffeine. But the standard energy drink serving is 16 oz (473 ml), and that doubles the caffeine to 170 mg. Because energy shots are more concentrated than drinks, a small 2-oz (59ml) shot holds about 200 mg of caffeine. Supplements — Caffeine supplements contain about 200 mg per tablet as if you had drunk 2 cups (473 ml) of brewed coffee.

STYLE 1. If you like the natural color of your lips, find the perfect nude.

3. Use a crayon lip liner.

For the best definition, it is better to use a crayon lip liner than a liner with a pointy tip. Crayon lip liners have a rounded, soft tip. Sharp pencils will make tight, intense lines that won’t give you the optimal look. Round-tipped pencils will give your lips a velvety, creamy finish. These crayontype liners are convenient and quick to use, and they are multifunctional — you can use them as lipstick too.

If you’re a fan of natural-looking lips and want to achieve that nice, pouty look, there are 2 things you can do: Find a lip liner that is the exact color of your lips, the nude lip liner. First, determine your skin undertone. Pinkish and purple shades will fit nicely with people with cool undertones. Those with warm undertones can go for a golden or yellowish liner. People with neutral undertones have no predominant shade, and they can wear both cool and warm hues. A neutral lip liner will enhance your natural lips and provide shape and definition. Find “my lip, but better” shade, which is a tone just a bit darker than your natural lip color. This will make your lips appear more prominent and gain a velvety texture, as well as make their color look intense. Note: The nude lip liner will also save you money since you won’t need to buy a new lip liner to match every lipstick you have.

4. Check for the right ingredients.

Try to find lip liners that are as hydrating as lip balms. Ingredients in lip liners will make your lips smooth, and the hydrating formula will help your lip color stay put throughout the day. Moisturizing lip liner can build up color seamlessly. Search for soft and creamy ones — the color will glide on better for a smoother finish. You won’t have that “dry lip” look. Search for the following ingredients in a lip liner: Hyaluronic acid Vitamin E Shea butter Jojoba essential oil Aloe vera Safflower seed oil

2. When using colored lipstick or gloss, apply a liner in a shade darker or lighter.

Next, find a liner with a hue darker or lighter than the lipstick or gloss you want to use. This will take your appearance to the next level by creating a neat look. Avoid using a liner with a much darker tone than the lipstick you want to use. The contrast between the 2 can become very sharp and look shabby. Many women make this mistake and use a brown-toned liner and then fill the inner section with a pinkish color. The general rule is to keep the lipstick and the liner in the same color family and undertones. Another great trick you can use is with a lighter, highlight lip pencil that will make the line clean and define the lips. It is great for accenting the thin upper lips.

5. Pair the texture of the lip liner and the lipstick.

You’ll want to match the finish to finish, which means to pair the texture of the lip liner with the lipstick too. Match your matte lip liner with your matte lipstick or your metallic lip liner with your metallic lipstick so you will achieve colorful and flawless lips. Tip: A light touch of makeup and some modest accessories will make your whole look appear very neat. 🤵 Casual attire for men: Go for clean, not ragged clothes. You can wear T-shirts, jeans, chinos, and casual sneakers. Pair them with some colorful or patterned socks to express your personality. Tip: Avoid flip-flops, shorts, or baggy clothing, like sweatpants or hoodies.

This attire is also known as dressy casual or casual chic. It’s like an upgraded version of the casual style, which is suitable for job interviews, client meetings, and casual nighttime events. Here you can wear trendier and more chic pieces. 👗Smart casual attire for women: Don’t be scared to add something glamourous to your look. For example, add a bow blouse and heels to your jeans. Patterned or floral shirts, bright cardigans, tailored pants, and jumpsuits will also look good. Tip: Don’t be afraid to experiment with color, sophisticated patterns, and saturated shades, like cobalt, oxblood, or emerald. Accessories that stand out will finish up the look perfectly.

Typically, it’s suitable for weddings, holiday parties, and fine restaurants. 👗Semi-formal attire for women: Opt for dresses, separates, or a pantsuit in a dressy fabric like silk, cashmere, or satin. Add fancy shoes like heels, strappy sandals, or flats, and sparkly jewelry. 🤵 Semi-formal attire for men: Go for a conservative dark suit and a dress shirt. Black tie is a formal dress code that is usually worn to formal evening events, like weddings, proms, formal dinners, and the theater. It is more formal than business attire. 👗 Black tie attire for women: Opt for a formal floor-length evening gown, a dressy cocktail dress, or get the dressiest classic black dress. 🤵 Black tie attire for men: Choose a black tuxedo. Also, pick a formal white shirt paired with cuff links. Finish up your look with a black bow tie, black patent shoes, and black dress socks.

7. Creative black tie

This dress code allows you to incorporate some fun into your look. You can use different textures, prints, patterns, colors, or accessories to come up with an unusual yet elegant look. 👗Creative black tie for women: Opt for an evening dress with patterns and sparkly sequins. You can also wear shorter cocktail dresses paired with a blazer and some stand-out accessories. Even if you choose a basic black dress, you can add a stand-out piece like an eye-catching clutch. 🤵 Creative black tie for men: Opt for formal wear with some pops of texture and color. You can consider a festive dress code when you attend a holiday party, like for example, New Year’s Eve. Essentially, it’s cocktail party attire modified according to the season. 👗 Festive attire for women: You can opt for a cocktail dress, as well as long dressy skirts paired with a matching top. A “little black dress” is a good choice too. 🤵 Festive attire for men: You can go with pieces that feature holiday colors. Choose seasonal sport coats or blazers, slacks, and open-collar or dress shirts. You can also finish your look with a festive tie.

9. White tie

A white tie dress code means formal attire that is suitable for galas and state dinners. It is also known as a “full evening dress.” Therefore, it’s considered the most formal of all the dress codes and indicates that the guests attending the event are high-caliber, royal, or have a high social standing. 👗White tie attire for women: Grand ballgowns with opulent jewels are the most suitable for these situations. You can also consider formal floorlength evening dresses and, optionally, long gloves. 🤵 White tie attire for men: Consider wearing a white shirt, waistcoat, and bowtie paired with black patent leather shoes with black laces. You are allowed to add a slight touch of personality to your look by wearing a colorful or patterned bowtie or, optionally, white gloves. Tip: White tie is the most traditional type of attire, and wearing a pre-tied bowtie or a shirt without fancy buttons or cufflinks is considered inappropriate.

COME ON IN! There are 2 types of doors that you can find in a store: slab doors and pre-hung doors. A slab door is a door with a pre-cut hole for a doorknob. It’s cheaper, but it will take more work to install it. A pre-hung door is supplied with the frame and hinges. It is heavier and more expensive due to its construction, but the installation of this door will take much less time. However, these 2 alternatives are not the main thing you should be paying attention to.

HOME Select the material

Natural wood. Different types of wood are used to manufacture doors. For example, pine is in high demand, but it’s not rigid enough, so scratches can appear on the door’s surface. Doors made of ash, linden, and oak will be more practical due to their dense structure, high rigidity, and resistance to moisture. However, they cost more. Chipboard is made by pressing sawdust and binders. As a result, durable and reliable door slabs are obtained. Then they are laminated and covered with a decorative film with patterns for a particular type of wood to give the product an attractive look. The disadvantage is that they don’t withstand strong shocks, high humidity, and temperature changes. MDF (medium-density fiberboard). This structure is similar to chipboard, but smaller sawdust is used to make it. This material is less resistant to moisture and deformation, so it’s only suitable for dry rooms. Glass. Interior doors made of this material are rarely chosen for residential premises, as they are transparent, which is not always convenient. They can also be patterned, colored, and matte. Structure of toes

Every toe consists of several small bones called phalanges that are connected to each other with joints. The 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th toes have 3 phalanges. Very rarely does the little toe only have 2 phalanges, and the biggest toe always has 2 phalanges. The toes are connected directly to the bones in the middle part of the foot. The muscles and tendons allow us to bend, and move our toes in different directions but it’s impossible to move them independently because of the location of the soft tissue.

Why we have 5 toes

The ancestors of all modern creatures with 4 legs had 5 fingers on all 4 limbs around 300-400 million years ago. Some creatures could have up to 13 fingers, but evolution only left them with 5. Scientists don’t have a definite answer as to why this number was “chosen.” Today, the human body is so used to having 5 toes on each foot that losing, for example, the biggest one can impact the way we walk tremendously. We would think that winning the 2019 Oscar for her short film "Bao" would give her all the confidence in the world for pitching movie ideas to her bosses, but the adorable, emotional red panda movie which is set to come out next spring almost didn't happen. In an exclusive interview with IndieWire, Shi admits she was nervous to pitch the story to Pixar at first. After she discussed the idea with her friend and "Inside Out" colleague Pete Docter, "he became a champion. He said it was cool and different and encouraged me."

It's an adorable, kid-friendly twist on The Hulk Whether you're talking about the old school version from the comics or the modern-day iteration from Marvel, it's safe to say that "The Hulk" is hard to portray in a family-friendly way. His superpower comes from an inability to control and process his emotions in a healthy way. He destroys property and hurts others –regardless of whether they're a bad guy or whether they're an innocent bystander. But "Turning Red" is taking a much cuter, more mellow approach to this transformation narrative. Many of the comments, replies, and quotes tweets — as well as news reports about the teaser trailer — have pointed out the similarities between Bruce Banner and Mei Lee. The Verge went so far as to reference "The Hulk" in their headline about the trailer, and the IndieWire interview mentioned earlier described "Turning Red" as "the cutest riff imaginable on 'The Incredible Hulk'." Based on the teaser, they certainly aren't wrong. If you're already excited to see this movie, you're going to have to exercise some patience. The movie is slated for a March 11, 2022 release date. Sandra Oh plays the mom (again) Sandra Oh has a prolific acting career, both in live action and animated productions. She's gone from shunning motherhood in her breakout role as Christina Yang on "Grey's Anatomy" to voicing Debbie Grayson in Invincible and expressing that character's heartbreaking tragedy using only the sound of her voice. Oh will once again take on a matronly role as the voice of Mei Lee's mother in "Turning Red." In the teaser, Oh's character is seen going full Karen on — and even kicking — a security guard at her daughter's school. It's unclear whether she's there to pick up her daughter from school or just there observing her from afar and lurking behind a tree. The scuffle which ensues is both chuckle-worthy and explains the plot of the movie: Extreme emotions trigger Mei Lee's transformation into a giant, adorable red panda. This crux of the narrative is another big part of why people can't stop talking about the teaser trailer and the upcoming film.

Opera Opera features vocal performances in a theater where the story is told through music. It’s sung by the actors who sing their lines. Opera is an important part of Western classical music. A small group of artists, statesmen, writers, and musicians in Florence, called the Florentine Camerata, wanted to recreate Greek storytelling through music. That’s how the genre was born more than 400 years ago during the Renaissance. This music is usually developed by composers, historically by Giuseppe Verdi, Richard Wagner, Mozart, and many others.

Jazz Jazz includes so much flexibility that it’s not included in other genres typically. It has a blend of rhythms and tempos, chord progressions, sophisticated harmonies, and skilled improvisations. It can be played solo and also comprises a lot of instrumental structures and setups. In jazz music, you may find a drummer and a bass instrument and sometimes a group of instruments, ranging from woodwind to stringed instruments, like guitars and violins too. Country This music genre has its roots in the Southern US and has flourished from a mix of various fold styles. It focuses on a sound called “twang” of a guitar or vocals. Baked Salmon A lemon Butter Olive oil Yellow potatoes Salmon White asparagus Salt Black pepper Parsley Garlic Before you start cooking, you’ll need to: Preheat the oven at 390ºF (200ºC). Grill your white asparagus spears until their texture hardens a bit before you put them into the oven. Rinse your yellow potatoes. Cut your lemon into 4 parts. Chop the parsley. Mince the garlic. Note: Please take into consideration how many people the recipe will serve, and prepare your ingredients’ quantities accordingly. 1. First, you’ll need to spread olive oil around your cooking pan. 2. Then take a pinch of salt and lay it around your sheet pan. 3. Afterward, rub your yellow potatoes on the salt before setting them there. 4. Bake them at 390ºF (200ºC) for 20 minutes. 5. After baking your potatoes, take your sheet pan out and push them to one side. 6. Arrange your salmon down the center with the asparagus spread around it. 7. Melt 1/3 cup of butter, add a dash of lemon, and mix everything together. 8. Sprinkle it around your salmon, and finish seasoning it with chopped parsley, minced garlic, black pepper, and salt (do this to your liking). 9. Put everything into the oven for another 15 minutes. 10. While you wait, melt another 1/3 cup of butter. 11. Place 3 stems of parsley and 2/3 cloves of smashed garlic on a cooking pan. 12. Add a dash of lemon on top of everything and let it cook on low heat for about 3 to 5 minutes. 13. Season your salmon with it once it’s ready. 14. Once everything’s baked and ready, take your sheet pan out and plate your food.

Materials 7 bottle caps A piece of parchment paper An iron

1. Place drinking straws on a piece of parchment paper as shown in the picture above. 2. Cover the straws with another piece of parchment paper and iron well them through this paper. Keep ironing until straws are properly glued together. 3. Remove the straws from the parchment paper, take your shoe insole, put it on the straws, and outline it. Then cut it out from the straws. Use the remaining part of the straws to make the top part for your flip flop. If the remaining part of the straws is too narrow, you’ll have to glue more drinking straws together. 4. Glue the top part to the sides of the insole. 5. Turn your flip flop and apply glue to the outsole. Let it dry completely. It’ll make your flip flop less slippery. 6. Make a flip flop for another leg and your new shoes are ready!

1. Place bottle caps on a piece of parchment paper, as shown in the picture above. 2. Cover the bottle caps with another piece of parchment paper and iron them well. Keep ironing until the bottle caps are properly glued together. 3. Remove the parchment paper. 4. Enjoy your new coaster!

Materials A plastic bottle with a bottle cap A sharp knife Used drinking straws (about 10-12, depending on the size of the bottle) A sharp object to make holes in plastic 1. Take a plastic bottle and remove the bottle cap. 2. Take a sharp knife and start cutting the bottle in half. 3. Keep cutting until you reach the bottom. 4. Pull the bottle halves to the sides. 5. Make holes along both sides of the bottle, closer to their outer end. Holes should be located across from each other. The holes should be wide enough that you can pull a straw through them. The distance between the holes should be enough for 2 straws with spools of thread to be placed between them. 6. Pull a piece of straw through a spool of thread. Then pull the ends of the straw through the holes in the plastic bottle. If the straw is too long, cut off the excess. 7. Keep inserting spools of thread with straws until you fill the bottle. 8. Turn the bottle over and make small holes in its wider parts. The holes should be located above the middle part of each spool of thread. Pull a thread from a corresponding spool through every hole. 9. Secure the parts of the bottle with a bottle cap and enjoy the result.

Heat the bottle cap from its outer side with a lighter until the plastic becomes soft. Don’t melt the plastic! 3. Take an orange stick and insert it in the bottle cap from its inner side, forming a pointed tip. 4. Cut off the end of the tip. 5. Fill the bottle with sauce and close it with the cap. 6. Enjoy your new sauce holder!

1. Place 4 straws as shown in the picture above. 2. Glue another 6 straws to them (see example). 3. Keep adding new layers of straws until your organizer is high enough. We used 6 layers of drinking straws in total to make our beauty organizer. 4. Let the glue dry completely and make sure the straws are secured properly. 5. Put your makeup products in the organizer and enjoy it!

1. Take 4 shampoo bottles and remove their upper parts as shown in the picture above. 2. Glue the top part of one of the bottles to the bottle cap. 3. Glue the rest of the bottles around this bottle cap, as shown in the picture above. 4. Enjoy your new utensil organizer!

Turn a laundry detergent bottle into a sponge holder Materials An empty bottle from any laundry detergent with a handle A marker A piece of rope A pair of sharp scissors or a knife A sharp object to make holes in the plastic 1. Take an empty bottle of laundry detergent and cut off its handle. 2. Make a hole on each side of the narrower end of the handle. 3. Take a sponge and pull a rope through it. 4. Pull the ends of the rope through the handle, starting from its wider side. 5. Insert the ends of the ropes into the holes and tie a knot to secure the rope. 6. Leave a bit of the rope free and tie another knot to form a hanging loop.

Cut the bottle in 3 parts, as shown in the picture above. 2. Glue the first and the third parts together to form a smaller bottle. 3. Make a hole for coins in the upper part of the new bottle. 4. Color the bottle and decorate it in accordance with your taste. 5. Start saving money!

Turn a plastic container into a lunch box Materials A large plastic container (for example, a milk container). Don’t use containers from inedible products like washing detergents. A utility knife A sharp object to make holes in the plastic A piece of ribbon A large button, a piece of thick thread, and a thick needle A marker 1. Take a container and cut off the upper part of its wider side, following the line shown in the picture above. 2. Turn the container and cut off the upper part of its narrower side, following the line shown in the picture above. 3. Turn the container again and cut off the upper part of its other wider side, following the line shown in the picture above. 4. At this point, you should have a box shaped like a lunchbox. Make a hole in the middle of the small wall that is located in front of the larger wall. 5. Pull a piece of ribbon that’s folded in half through this hole. Secure it with a tight knot on the inner side of the box. Sew a button on the covering lid so it’s placed above the ribbon when you close the lid. 6. Close your lunchbox to make sure everything is secured properly and enjoy your meal!

Bonus: Turn a used plastic jug into a travel bag Materials An empty bottle from any laundry detergent with a handle A marker A piece of rope A pair of sharp scissors or a knife A sharp object to make holes in the plastic 1. First, you’ll need to split your jug in 2. Try to cut it in a way that both sides stay symmetrical. 2. Then, make 6 holes on the opposite side of where the bottle’s neck is. Keep them a few inches apart from each other. Make 3 of them close to the top, and the other 3 close to the bottom. 3. With the help of screws, tighten 2 hinges to the plastic (one in each at the pierced spots). 4. Afterward, add 2 seals spaced apart from each other. One close to the top, and another close to the bottom. Make sure to do the same for the second piece of the jug, in the exact same spot. 5. Then, add rubber to your recently cut edges (both sides). 6. Attach the wheels and a handle to the back of the jug. 7. Use your bottleneck as a sort of key. It’ll keep your bag tightly sealed.
