…but they also almost blew up their kitchen!

During the kitchen challenge, Alexander knocked over a metal shovel that hit a live electrical outlet. “It started sparking, then our house’s power went out,” he says. “The whole show experience was crazy for us, but this took the cake,” adds Martha.

February in Gulf Shores? It gets cold.

Even though it was small, the bathroom gave the winners major stress.

Every night Martha and Alexander would write up a list of all the tasks they had to complete the next day. The space with the most to-dos? The bathroom! “We had about 25 things to accomplish,” says Alexander. That included installing a barn door and putting up cedar planks on one wall. “On that challenge, we didn’t leave the house until 3 a.m.,” says Martha.

The creepy dolls from the first episode made more than one cameo.

One team’s house came with a collection of old dolls  ––  so naturally Alexander stole them and hid them in the other contestants’ rooms. “You’d grab for toilet paper under the vanity, and a doll would be holding it,” says Alexander.

Alexander had a very revealing moment.

When Martha and Alexander were desperate for some plasterwork to dry, they cranked up their house’s heat to sauna-like levels. Alexander, who was painting at the time, “lost it,” he says. He stripped down to his boxers and boots so he could keep working.

Metal pegboard hooks along the bottom look more fun with chunky wood beads attached—just slip a bead onto the end of a hook and secure it with hot glue.

Pegboard shouldn’t be flush-mounted to the wall— you need wiggle room behind the board for hook clearance. Furring strips or spacers, sold at home improvement stores, do the trick.

Turn a spare wall into a drop spot for your pooch’s supplies. Find a silhouette of your favorite breed online, enlarge it, and print it on 11-inch-by-17-inch paper. Cut it out and tape it to Con-Tact paper. Cut it out again and adhere the Con-Tact paper silhouette to the pegboard. Paint the area all around the cutout. Use tweezers to remove the cutout while the paint is still wet. Let dry.
