behind the scenes …but they also almost blew up their kitchen!

During the kitchen challenge, Alexander knocked over a metal shovel that hit a live electrical outlet. “It started sparking, then our house’s power went out,” he says. “The whole show experience was crazy for us, but this took the cake,” adds Martha.

Every night Martha and Alexander would write up a list of all the tasks they had to complete the next day. The space with the most to-dos? The bathroom! “We had about 25 things to accomplish,” says Alexander. That included installing a barn door and putting up cedar planks on one wall. “On that challenge, we didn’t leave the house until 3 a.m.,” says Martha.
