Arden takes between two and thirty pics on her phone to get the right one. Once she selects a fave, she imports it into the VSCO Cam app. “It has really great indie filters.”
She changes the filter to HB1—“it has a muted, overexposed look”—and knocks down the effect by half. “My color palette is a lot of light blue, white, and gray—like a cloudy sky.”

After that, Arden switches to another group of settings, where you can tweak the brightness of the picture “to bump up the fade, so it has that old film–y look.”
If the image looks dull, she slightly ups the contrast level. Then she checks the pic against others in her VSCO Cam to make sure it goes with her overall theme. Finally: Insta upload!
