Two designers devise two different bathrooms using the same stylish elements. Here, we reveal the key features that make these small

With its low-profile tank and slender silhouette, this modern Toto toilet makes the powder room feel more spacious.

1. Wall Treatment DARK

WALLS PAIRED WITH QUIET PIECES LEND DRAMA AND DIMENSION. DESIGNER MELANIE FINKLEMAN OPTED FOR AN EARTHY CHEVRONPATTERNED ACCENT WALL THAT PICKS UP ON THE WARM TONES OF THE OAK FLOORING, WHILE DESIGNER JO ALCORN SETTLED ON A HIGH-CONTRAST PALETTE THAT ACHIEVES PERSONALITY THROUGH GLAM GOLD ACCESSORIES.

2. Mirror THE ROUND MIRRORS ARE JUXTAPOSED WITH THE VARIOUS LINEAR ELEMENTS AT PLAY (SUCH AS THE FLOATING VANITIES), KEEPING THE ROOMS FROM LOOKING MONOTONOUS. “THE MIRROR HELPS SOFTEN THE SPACE AND OFFERS A NICE CONTRAST IN GEOMETRY,” SAYS MELANIE.

To elevate her bathroom’s serene aesthetic, Jo had a photograph she snapped of the lake near her home enlarged and framed.

3. Light Fixture FOR A

MORE PARED-BACK LOOK, THE DESIGNERS DECIDED TO SHINE THE LIGHT ON ONE STATEMENT SCONCE VERSUS TWO. JO WENT WITH AN INDUSTRIAL STYLE IN A GOLD HUE TO COMPLEMENT THE OTHER BRASS-FINISHED DETAILS IN THE ROOM, WHILE MELANIE SELECTED A FIXTURE WITH A MORE STREAMLINED AESTHETIC.

4. Floating Vanity BOTH

DESIGNERS WERE QUICK TO DISMISS THE IDEA OF PEDESTAL SINKS IN FAVOUR OF FLOATING VANITIES. NOT ONLY DO THE UNITS CREATE THE ILLUSION OF LARGER SPACES THANKS TO THE EXPOSED FLOORING, THEY ALSO OFFER AMPLE STORAGE. IN SHORT: THEY’RE PETITE AND PRACTICAL.

5. Faucet PLAYING OFF THE SHAPE OF THE MIRRORS, THE ULTRASLEEK FAUCETS ADD CURVATURE AND CHARACTER. THEY ALSO CONFORM TO EACH BATHROOM’S SELECTED ACCENT METAL TO CREATE A COHESIVE FEEL. “IN A SMALL SPACE, YOU REALLY WANT TO KEEP THINGS SIMPLE OR ELSE THE EYE BOUNCES AROUND TOO MUCH,” SAYS JO.
